I love that song a lot ; this story not so much.
Why ? Story line is all over the place , has lots of plot holes and couldn't connect with the heroes. I kept getting distracted ; so , I stop reading for few hours . When pick up the Kindle again, I need to backtrack to refresh what I read before but now couple hours later , have forgotten.
I enjoyed very much book 1 and have been measuring all the following books by it. Might be unfair of my part, to do so, yet I can't help make the comparison and they fall short.
Received an ARC of The Lost Prince and this is my honest review.
The Lost Prince is part of the Royal Powers universe, a multi-author collection in a shared world. I picked this one up after enjoying the first book I read in this series, Duking it Out, and because I am a super powers junkie. I also found the premise really interesting here, as I have never read any super hero books with ground burrowing powers. So I was intrigued by the set up, as well as interested to see Crave using his powers in the cave in. As it turns out, those elements are really what carried the book for me. The set up was original, Crave’s powers were unusual, and the cave in scenes had some excitement. However, I found that I had some real issues with much of this book overall.
This was a short read about a young man who thought he was a freak because he could tunnel through the earth. The writing was very simple and repetitive. This book wasn't for me. It had an interesting premise, but I don't think it was executed very well.
What I didn't like, was that I was constantly reminded that Crave was a freak, that his adopted family didn't want him, and that Devin was "old" (he is thirty) and gave all his money to his parents because they didn't want to work. The writing didn't flow very well, and dialogue was lacking. I'm not sure how these two fell in love and decided to move in together after only knowing each other a few days. Also, this book focused primarily on the plight of the miner's and the mine collapsing, and not on figuring out where Crave came from. I would have liked the story to have gone more towards Crave's lost family instead of a short chapter. I understand the mine was a huge part of the story, but it could have been longer and more could have been added. It's titled "The Lost Prince." It implies Crave is a lost prince, so why wasn't this developed further?
Potential spoilers below: There were some oddities in here, as well. How does Crave know how to fly a helicopter? What is the point of the shipping container? Why are bodies buried in the ground? A school hires prostitutes for the rich kids? These things seemed to have been thrown in to add more substance to the story, but I think it fell flat. I feel like some things were added to the for the sake of convenience, and really added nothing to the story.

I liked the first book in this shared world so much, but the other two I’ve read, including this one, have been rather disappointing. The powers of Crave in this one were incredibly interesting and novel, and the writing wasn’t bad, but that’s really all that worked for me. I felt that the pacing was off, the romance was too instantaneous with no chemistry, and the “mystery” was underdeveloped. I seem to be in the minority, but this was just not for me.
The Lost Prince by Sara York is part of the Roysl Powers shared World. This is an m/m romance of fantasy, royal families, and magical superhero powers. Crave and Devin are fun characters and their story is a mix of sweet connections and hot interactions, with a but of mystery and adventure. The shared world in this story intrigues me and although not necessary to enjoy the book, it made me want to look up the other books in this secret powers world.
Childhood Fairie Tales are often used to help children overcome their fears of the unknown. But finding out the truth may be even more difficult when almost no one knows what happened or how.
Record keeping helps, but with limited communication and many secrets not shared, decisions to keep relationships and misdeeds hidden from families, especially when royalty is involved. Discovering that you are the brother of the King almost makes your early life worthwhile as poverty and lack of love may be the best training to prepare you for your future.
This is such a fun lightheaded series. An enchanting blend of light suspense and angst topped off with a dash of wacky and a dollop of fantasy all served up to offer the reader the sweetest of romances
Crave always felt 'less than' a bit of an outcast. More so now that he was older. Never really accepted by society even his pseudo-family wanted him to stay over there - waaaayyyy over there - Unless they needed him for work or money or ...
Devin was a means to an end for his parents. A bit like a built-in ATM IMO - Just their to fill their coffers with the pin being guilt shaming. A vicious cycle that kept his life stagnant, but what more did he have to offer society? His powers were bland at best.
Both moved through his life on autopilot fulfilling the dreams of everyone else never quite reaching for their own bright star.
Until a spark ignited between them - Changing what could be Suddenly they were more and together? They were epic!
Crave was such a sweet soul. Despite all the negativity and rejection, he had experienced in his short life he still put others before him. And Devin - Devin just wanted the dream
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fourth book in the Royal Powers series. In this book, Crave is a young man who has the power to travel through dirt, but he hides his power because it is illegal for anyone to have powers except for the royal family. Crave was found in the woods as a baby and was raised by the Woods family, but the have not treated him well and he now lives in a shack at the edge of their property. The Woods use Crave for free labor and Crave wishes he could get away. Devin is a government worker who tracks illegal criminals that have powers. When the mine has a cave in, Devin is sent to see what caused it and if it was the result of someone using powers. Devin sees Crave and is instantly attracted to the young man, but Crave was taught to never tell anyone his name. Crave and Devin have a few more encounters and when they touch, they both feel a zap and their powers increase and they are somehow linked. When Crave is in trouble, Devin senses it and goes to his rescue. Devin feels the need to protect Crave and wants to be with him. I liked this book, it was a different story. Devin and Crave had an instant connection and i think they were meant to be together. Crave was so mistreated, but he knew he could trust Devin. This was the first book i read in this series, but i will be looking for more. Good one.
This was... interesting. Crave's powers kind of creeped me out but they were cool. Unfortunately, I didn't connect to Crave and Devin as much as I would have liked but they were sweet together. I also wish more was written about why and how exactly Crave and Devin's powers changed when they met. It feels like unfinished business.
TAGS -- fantasy -- super powers -- royalty -- quick easy read -- liked it but didn't love it -- sweet moments -- some drama -- likeable MCs... Crave & Devin -- read in one sitting
Read for a group challenge. Skipping the previous book for now. It was short, fast and a bit insta. I liked both characters and the connection they shared but things happened way too fast for me. One minute it’s suspicion, the next it’s like and then death flag love declarations. Crave and Devin’s powers were both interesting. It was a shame they both had sucky parents, but I did like the ending.

Oh my that really is a lesson about how long a person is willing to go for avarice. The two main characters aren't appreciated and weighted down by the people who should take care of them. Crave was abandoned at birth and raised by a family that turned against him and who uses him when they see fit. Devin's parents only care about their comfort that Devin is entitled to provide. When this two meet events change drastically and when Crave's life is in danger Devin finds him and saves him. From there the things they discover and are made to do gives a new light to everything and brings the truth to surface. Crave meets his family and finds the circumstances of his birth and that he is loved by his real family. It was an amazing and emotional story with a well deserved happy ending and that teaches us to see the real face of people and to trust in love.
Crave has the power to move through the earth. A power that is illegal to have and can get him arrested. Devin’s job is to find people breaking the law. His royal power is pretty worthless which makes him feel the same. When they meet and touch, their powers intensify, shocking them and setting them on a path together.
I liked Crave’s super power. It was totally different. I also liked that Devin wasn’t a perfect specimen of man. The book was enjoyable but there just wasn’t much to it. Their story just got started and the book ended. Even though it was short it was a nice addition to the series.
I have read a couple of the other books in this shared world and I have liked them all. This one is bout Crave and Devin. Devin has a superpower but it isn't that strong, just enough to get him a job with the Municipal. Crave hides in plain sight, keeping his power a secret. After all, who wants to know a freak who can travel through the ground. Crave hasn't had the best experience with life but that doesn't stop him from trying to help Devin solve the mystery of what is causing a local mine to have cave ins. A good book and one I would recommend reading.
I wanted to love this because this series has been fab so far (I've read 3 out of 4) but something about this one just didn't grab me. Crave was a sweetheart. Abandoned as a baby and then as an adult because of his power. I'm not sure it is stated how old he actually is. His power is pretty cool but strange and obviously he's the lost Prince of the title but that storyline doesn't really go anywhere. Devin is nice too but the chemistry just wasn't there for me. I think it just needed a few more pages to add in some heat between the MC's and round out the ending properly. Enjoyable though
I’m enjoying the Royal Powers series and the different takes on superhero powers. I thought both Devin and Crave’s powers were very cool, and unique. I liked the way they were able to work together to solve the mystery and save people.
Despite their different backgrounds I thought they had a lot in common too, and I liked the way they connected not only physically but emotionally too. They’re both trapped by their families, Devin because he’s used by them, and Crave because his adoptive family have rejected him and made him think he can’t do anything with his life because he’s defective. I liked how they were able to give each other the strength they needed to break free. I also liked that they’re both flawed and have fears, and especially how Devin’s is something intrinsic to Crave’s powers.
One of the things I’m enjoying about this shared universe is how characters from other books turn up or are mentioned. And also how we see a bit more, or a different side, of the world with each subsequent book.
Crave’s adoptive father is a total piece of work, and I was very happy with the conclusion of that part of the storyline. I liked how the plot wasn’t just about their powers and relationship but that there was a mystery to solve and bad guys to stop too.
This story is a fun addition to the series, with an interesting plot and characters. It’s my first read by this author, but I’ll be looking out for more.
I love Sara York's books and The Lost Prince did NOT disappoint! It was a such a wonderful, light-hearted read that dug its way to my heart :) Crave Woods was abandoned in the forests as a young baby and has a secret superpower that he has to keep hidden from his adopted family. His strange superpower causes him to sink into the dirt and travel below ground. He lives isolated deep in the forest in a small cabin away from his adopted parent's home. They want nothing to do with him and their secret trips to bury dead bodies is a something he wants to no part of.
Crave bumps into Devin Dumtsteed (a Ministry official) one day and they can't stop thinking about the other. Devin is a tracker and keeps his eyes on criminals and illegal power users. What is causing the cave-ins on the other side of the mountain and is Crave responsible? Dirt and rocks aren't the only things being unearthed and Crave discovers the truth about his birth parents and what his adopted parents are really doing. Along the way, he and Devin fall in love. This was a wonderful read and a perfect mid-way point in the Royal Powers series :) I can't wait to read more in this series!
I liked this story overall. Crave has been living a hidden life for years with people who he thought cared about him but they don’t. Devin has been living his life for his parents and wants to be on his own. The two meet and have an instant connection. They don’t know why, but touching amplifies each of their powers.
This was a short book so the action/story moves fast. I just wish we had a little more time to really see what happens after it ends. The guys mention multiple times that they don’t want anyone to know about their powers because bad things could happen. Everyone finds out, and I think things will be fine, but it was a little light on the true conclusion of working out. What happens with Devin’s job? What about his parents? What happened to Crave’s “family”? I wish I just had a little more closure.
The detail and story that lead up to the end, though, was pretty cool. I loved how Crave helped everyone.

This is the next book in the Royal Powers multiauthor series, I really enjoyed this one.
Crave meets Devlin in the woods after using his power, Devlin who works a job he dislikes, for the municipal as a tracker, he tracks criminals and those who use their powers illegally, of which Crave is one, not that he is hurting anyone... is he? Something unexpected happens when these too mate that sounds am in quite the adventure. This book has a little bit of angst, it is well written, the characters are fun and sweet together, which means the sexual tension is palpable between them, but happens mostly off page, my only issue with the book is that it seemed cut off, in my opinion I felt that a couple of the subplots could have been more fully explored and expanded upon, which would have rounded out the story so that the end didn’t feel so abrupt. Overall though this is a really enjoyable book in the series.
While this is the 4th of the Royal Powers series, it can quite easily be read as a standalone. Continuing the storyline of characters with unusual super powers, in this book we meet Crave, who can slide through dirt, and Devin, who can track people with his mind. Devin is sent out to find the person responsible for causing earthquakes in the mountains when he meets Crave, a homeless waif who doesn’t know his lineage or what his future holds. Together they discover that love not only enhances their powers but truly does conquer evil. While not a bad read, I think this has the potential to be much more. The story felt rushed like we were missing large chunks of information. Almost like there were large chunks of time that were skipped to make the book a certain length. Nothing that would stop me from recommending the book for someone who wanted a light, easy read but I believe this could have been so much more.
When you think of superpowers, sinking into the ground is probably not one you'd ever think of or want to have. You might change your mind about that after reading this book. This is another great mix of superpower and fairy tale. Crave is a bit like Cinderella and Harry Potter in that he has powers, charm and abilities but is ill treated by his family and used as free labor. When Devin arrives to investigate the cause of the mine cave-in these two men find that together they are so much more both emotionally and in terms of powers than they ever were alone. The world building continues to be intriguing in this series and the characters are very believable within that world. The romance is well done and fits nicely into moving the plot along as well. I look forward to more in this series.
Crave and Devin have an electric start to their relationship. While I enjoyed the writing style and the plot there were things left at the end without an explanation.I feel the book wrapped up a little too quickly for my taste, it was all action and then skip forward with little said about how they got there. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two and how trusting they become of the other to protect them. I enjoyed the slight mystery that was involved as well. I cried for how Crave was treated by his family and I would have loved more information on how he came to be with the Woods, one of those things I mentioned earlier. Overall though I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
I know this is part of a series, however it’s the only one I’ve read so far. It is great as a stand alone. Crave thinks he’s a freak (spoiler alert..... he’s not). Devin is parent pecked. Together they are special. It’s sort of an alternative world, with all the modern technology but a different hierarchy. There’s action, adventure, the supernatural, love and bad guys. A recommended enjoyable read!
This was an interesting story line about shape shifter Crave and Devin, a government employee who tracks down rogue power users. A fast paced insta love story about a man that travels through the dirt and the man who helps him believe in himself and that he deserves better than the family he was raised by. I was good for a novella but I would like to have seen more information on quite a few things. 3.5 Stars.
Totally in line with the other books in the series but with the Sara York flare I love. The author isn’t timid when it comes to danger. And the excitement level is high. Add in the super powers and romance and it’s a very fun read. I would have liked it to be a little more drawn out and gotten more details but I still loved it.
I love this series with each book featuring the story of a superpowered royal finding love. In this story Devin and Crave found each other complementing themselves in many ways, superpowers included. I enjoyed the sweet interactions between Devin and Crave and the intrigue and danger in the plot. A very entertaining fairytale. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Another interesting read in this multi author world. I like Crave and Devin. This is a sweet short story that I really enjoyed reading this one. A fun and interesting addition to this world.
