Rate this book
In The Words of the Wandering, the third book in the Croswald Series, Ivy’s power grows and so does the Dark Queen’s intent to destroy her. Then a trusted protector reveals themselves to be an evil beyond imagining. Ivy must remain true to her mission and herself, all while discovering new magic and innovating with old spells. Can Ivy recover what was lost on a high-speed dragon chase above Croswald? The stakes have never been higher.Curious and whimsical, shy and brave, Ivy leans into her relationships, and even encounters a bit of romance. Her unique magic allows her to develop skills that more experienced scrivenists struggle to master. For those who wished that Narnia, Harry Potter, and Alice in Wonderland could go on forever, Croswald opens a whole new world of magic. Thank you so much to D.E. Night and Stories Untold Press for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own

It's hard to talk about a third book in a series without giving away spoilers for the rest, but i will try to just talk about this book's unique aspects.

There is more world building from a historical standpoint, as Ivy is teledetecting through a book sketched by her family's scrivenists. I think it's cool how art comes to life more in this third novel. The circus was a treat and definitely one of my favorite scenes, but my favorite favorite were the parts about coming home.

There are more magical creatures too, dragons play a larger role and some truly terrifying monsters. The invisitaurs come back too in a big way.

The pace is so much slower though, we see a lot of Quality Quills Club team building and new friendships forming. No quogo this time.

A lot of time is spent kind of growing Ivy up and making her stronger. The pacing took it's time until the last 14% when the plot took off running and dropped an unbelievable cliffhanger. I neither love nor hate cliffhangers but feel like one or two more chapters would have been ideal?

My only other issue was the total lack of Fyn in this book, I am honestly shipping Glistle and Ivy at this point. ((((And seriously how did Fyn not know the thing...or does he? How did he show up right then unless he....??))))

I do like that this is a very clean read, there in one quick peckish kiss between characters and that's about it!

Definitely 100% recommend this series to any fans of magic worlds. Totally appropriate for middle grade readers as well, I would happily hand this over to kids everywhere

This is my absolute favorite of this series so far! I just love the growth and confidence that Ivy shows in this book!

While you can make a lot of comparisons to the Harry Potter series from the first Crowns of Croswald, this third book proves once again that this series can stand on its own! I was riveted right from the start, and so enjoyed being drawn back into this magical world! Author D.E. Knight writes so beautifully and seamlessly, that even though it's been a year since I read the second book, it was as if no time had passed.

I loved the circus scenes and the ever growing relationship between Ivy and Fyn. And the twists and turns that the story takes will keep you turning pages long into the night! I am on pins and needles now having to wait for the next book!! I might just have to reread the whole series while I wait! :)

I was given a copy of this book by the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Worlds of Wandering is the third book in the Crowns of Croswald series, I'd recommend starting with The Crowns of Croswald and The Girl With the Whispering Shadow before reading D.E. Night's latest book to really appreciate the characters and plot.

Ivy Lovely is the true Queen, rightful heir to the kingdom of Croswald, but unable to take her place on the throne until she can gather the three pieces of the Kindred Stone and restore her power. Thus far, Ivy has managed to locate two of the three pieces, but the final piece has been very elusive. With graduation now complete at the Halls of Ivy, Fyn is off to start his investigator training with the Mattler's and Ivy is headed with Rebecca to Castle Connell until the start of the new term. With Belzebuthe having been destroyed, there are few places left that are safe from the Dark Queen's watchful eye. Ivy's summer at the castle is filled with dragon rides, spending quality time with Rebecca and combing for answers within the pages of The Book of Wandering, a book that details the history of her family and the curse that was placed on them many years ago.

When I first saw the new cover, I was really excited about the possibility of Ivy and her friends going to the circus. Imaging how it would be incorporated into the story. Sadly the circus doesn't appear until much later in the story, yet I loved that it is the place Fyn takes Ivy to on their first date. Unfortunately, it doesn't end up being the happy occasion they had hoped for.

Not to say that I didn't enjoy reading The Words of Wandering, I really did love the story. Night's books are always so magical. It's just that the pacing of the Worlds of Wandering was a tad slower. But I read Night's books for her beautiful style of writing, how she includes all of these rich details into her passages to really immerse you into the magical world of Croswald. I love reading the details about the classes that Rebecca and Ivy take within the Halls of Ivy and the way that she is able hit all of your senses, from the architecture of the buildings, to the sights and sounds of the castle and Belzebuthe, to the scrumptious sounding foods they eat. In each book of the series we learn new details about the magical system of Scrivenists, the people who utilize quills, ink and parchment to record the details of events. And I found myself fascinated by inklink's, teledetecting and Ivy's enlightening trips into a magical bottle or Glanagerie, that felt similar to a penseive. It's very reminiscent of reading the Harry Potter series for me, well at least gives me that same sort of feeling and especially enjoyed the slight nod to Dumbleldore's Army with the recruiting for the Quality Quills Club (QQC). Although the trials for the QQC sounded quite challenging, and especially dangerous. There's just so much to love here.

Ivy has come a long way across this series. She's gaining strength in her magic and getting closer toward her goal, having acquired a new piece of the kindred stone with each new book. Much of the current story was spent looking into her families past and learning more about her parents. Some events from earlier books were explained and there were a few especially heartbreaking moments that were challenging for Ivy. I was worried about her spiraling into a depression, but happy that her friends were able to help her move forward. Then there's Rebecca, Ivy's best friend, their friendship keeps expanding and she's just the kind of person that Ivy needs, supportive and caring, a shoulder to cry on if you need it. Overall this has been a lovely series to immerse myself in, though I was a little surprised by the cliffhanger ending, I'm even more eager to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.

Thank you so much to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!!

Rating: 4.5/5🌟

- HOLY MOLY PEOPLE!! This book is masterpiece and probably my second favourite book in the series so far!

- Comparing this book to the other 2 books, it has less world building and the plot starts out on a slower pace. The first 60% of the book wasn’t as eventful as I expected BUT, I was still really entertained by the story. It’s wasn’t boring or disengaging. Based on this, I would have given the book a 3.75-4 🌟 ... but the ending smashed it for me!

- THE ENDING IS PHENOMENAL!! It’s almost like the entire book’s worth of intensity is slammed into the last 20%/the ending. And NOT in the sense that the ending is rushed or abrupt. The ending is just so intense that my mind is blown. And also that cliffhanger ... wow! I need Book 4 desperately!!!

- While the world building isn’t as strong in this book, this book has great character development. Both in Ivy and some side characters which I will not mention because of spoilers. I really enjoyed the character development in the story and it made me love Ivy even more

- The romance also has great progression in this book (*SCREAMS AND SQUEALS*). it’s such a great addition to the story and I hope to see more of it! Big fan of the romance

- The creativity of the author continues to shine through in this story, specifically in the circus scene! Her beautiful writing paints the whole scene so vibrantly - it’s almost as though I’m in the circus.

- I really want to give this book a 5/5🌟, because the ending was so amazing, there was great character development and it was overall a really enjoyable and entertaining read. Unfortunately, because of the slower pace and the decrease in world development, I feel that 4.5/5🌟 would be a accurate rating but deep in my heart, this is a solid 5/5🌟

- This is seriously the best middle-grade series I’ve read and I recommend this to EVERYONE!! Please read it! You will not regret it one bit!!!

I recieved this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! All opinions are my own.

This is the third book in The Crowns of Croswald Series and it's so good! I read the first one when the author sent it to me and I thought it was a magical story, I bought the second one and I was offered the third one by the publisher to read and review so I said yes! These books are wonderful and I can't wait to read the next one.

I don't want to spoil things so I'll just mention some things that I loved about this book. Again, the friendships, they're amazing: Rebecca, Fyn, Gretta and all of Ivy's friends. The magic school! I love all the lessons that they teach in there, it's full of creative ideas and the writting is so good that I can imagine myself in the classrooms with the students! The circus was an amazing thing to read about, it was spectacular. The dragons!! That was so good, I love it when there are dragons in the story. The mystery of the story kept me reading (the things Ivy was looking for and the answers to so many questions). And that ending was amazing!

It's a wonderful book as I said, I highly recommend picking this series up cause it's such a magical journey!

The words of the wandering | D E Night
I was originally enlightened to this series via @netgalley and @storiesuntold, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed instalment 3 of this magical escape. It is just pure easy reading that allows you to switch off from reality for a bit. It did feel a bit like middle ground as had no real start or ending but it kinda makes sense being that it is book 3 of 4. The pursuit of the missing fragments of the kindred stone continue as does the drama surrounding the dark queen and her menacing ways. The secret book of Ivy’s past in the words of the wandering, that only she can ‘dive into’ quite literally, was a beautiful touch for her to explore the life she missed out on. I truly loved that added element to this book and it made it have its own stand out special feature. It was as if Ivy had her own little slice of magic she didn’t have to share. As the previous books did and this continues to do, it doesn’t disappoint in keeping it fresh and exciting with new added magic as you turn the pages. I was taken by surprise at the hidden circus!! The imagination is just next level! It really felt Ivy had grown up further in this book and I look forward to following that journey into book 4. She has this new edge of confidence as she continues to grasp her magic abilities. I do get the sense not all are who they say they are and as if the book is setting the reader up for a bombshell in book 4. That Ivy will discover someone close to her will turn on her. (This is purely my interpretation based on my reading) I’m hoping if I’m right it isn’t her bestie Rebecca or her crush in Fyn! Derwins forgotten memory isn’t the issue in this book, it is his murder at the circus that is troubling poor Ivy. The author does this part of the story really well in displaying her stages of grief. I absolutely loved the bold but blunt ending! It makes you wanna dive straight into book 4 to find out more! Fantasy isn’t usually my jam but I have to say I’m thoroughly enjoying the adventures of Ivy.

Every sense I was given a chance to review the series early in February I was hooked onto this fantastic magical journey. I don’t know how to say how thankful I was for the series coming into my life, because it has to be one of my top favorite series of all time. Now into the actual review, this next installment for the series is amazing, I loved the new world building that was added and the fun mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. The cliffhanger at the end was so big I so badly want book 4 to magically appear right now (sadly that’s not the way it works). Also did I mention the great character growth, it’s been so nice to watch Ivy grow throughout all these books. Here’s hoping for the 4th one to come out ASAP.

Thank you NetGalley, stories untold and our wonderful author D. E. Night for entrusting me with the ebook of the words of the wandering in exchange of an honest review.
I am so in love with the whole of the croswald magic. I am in love with it. What I like about this series is that the next book starts exactly at the same point where the last book ended. So the pace of the story keeps up with previous one.
I loved these lines from dedication:
'No matter where we wander in life,
being with you will always feel like home.
isn't it so beautiful, meaningful and in sync with the book?
The epilogue was so good. I like it and I already knew who the prisoner was and ugh the dark queen.
The book Ivy found in the forgotten room was so cool. I found it wonderful the way it worked. Glad that she decided that one 'thing' should be kept by her. Ivy needs to trust her guts. She needs to listen to to it. She was feeling something was off since the beginning and well, could we blame her?
Ivy spending her summer with Rebecca made me so happy. I am glad she had some fun keeping her huge responsibility on mind. She had some experince with root rolling and dragons which was awesome. Then spending few days with Greeleys was a bonus point.
BELZEBUTH! The state of that precious city brought tears all over again. I want that old town again. SCRIVENISTS tried hard to bring it back to the way it was, they succeeded, the town still had the glory but... if you have read book 2 then you know what I MEAN.
There are a lot of things I want to mention but that will become a spoiler for those who have't read this masterpiece like that party, memory potion, lotts of luck, archmap etc.
Back at halls, I loved Damaris this time, not that she changed much but still. Professor NIGHT'S class was so cool and fun. Professor Bovardo was fun too. Ivy was mastering her skills and she was so good at spells. Creating maps, potions and whatnot.
Recruiting QQC members was a great idea as the club needed after senior members graduated. Glistle, though, as usual succeeded in annoying me (sorry) along with Wisdom (I am being biased maybe). Well, to be honest many characters annoyed me but it was fun getting annoyed with them. Glistle even made me more annoyed with his stubbornness during the third trial. Doodley's courage was really cool. I did not expect him to show such aptitude. Gretta and Rebecca as usual captured my heart. Canna seemed likeable too although she was jealous type. I still missed Winsome badly.
I kept wondering about invisitaurs and was suspicious of the selector. Her conduct was not quite ideal. A professor was missing and she did what? Just investigations? Well, does that make any sense. The selector (since book 1) and that Wuchester always seemed off to me.
Now coming to the Maszner circus. I was excited along with Fyn and Ivy. It was like a breath of fresh air but the end... well that erased the chance that I'll be ever looking forward to it again. The secret hidden at slurry fields? Why didn't I ever think about it? It seemed logical after finding out. ohh and old friend over there. why? why did my heart break all over again? why do you have to do this?
The dark queen seemed to ruin any fun that Ivy and her gang could have. She should know that she is not wanted anywhere. Just leave croswald alone! the revelation caught me off guard. The cliffhanger though. Now I want book 4 as soon as possible. Can't wait to get it.
It was so good and I was hooked till the end. I wish the book didn't end so soon, wish it had more pages... I can not wait to get the paperbacks. I highly recommend to everyone. A 5 STAR read for me.

Spanish/English Review.

I think this has got to be my favorite book so far in The Crowns of Croswald series! It feels all so real, how everything is being connected bit by bit and we start discovering a lot more about Ivy, and even feels slightly more mature because of everything that has been going on in the past books!! I know it is a book for kids, but with this one I feel there has been a lot more definition on the characters, we see Ivy grow up, and even a new gang is being formed given that some graduated from school. Plus, this book's adventure and romance is amazing!!

With that being said, I felt that the start of this book was a bit slow, it was a lot about personal discovery and moving along the new team, and until that last bit of 10-15% was when we got to the real plot and ending, and well, I'm just going to say that if you're not a fan of cliffhangers, stay away from this book until we get the next one haha.

Again, I do have to give a standing ovation on how the author mixes in the book's title in the story, in this case, a more direct reference sin the beginning, it was lovely. I loved the whole circus theme, especially how it evolved some character's relationships (wink wink). I love the author's imagination and how she describes this story to her readers, I love it.

Not sure how I'll manage to wait for the book 4 until 2022! I hope time flies by.

In "The Words of the Wandering," Ivy Lovely returns to The Halls for her third year after an exhilarating summer spent at her best friend Rebecca's castle. Ivy and Rebecca enjoyed dragon rides by night and learned from Frederick, Rebecca's family scrivenist, by day. Their summer also included a visit to Fyn’s family in Belzebuthe, offering Ivy more precious time with Fyn following his graduation from The Halls.

Back at school, Ivy and her friends encounter a series of alarming events: a deadly monster appears in the lake near The Halls, several scrivenists go missing, the invisitaurs are sent away leaving The Halls unprotected, and the Selector is behaving oddly.

Ivy must confront these challenges head-on to protect her friends and the school, all while dealing with the investigation into her family’s scrivenist and her quest to find the third piece of the Kindred Stone.

Reading "The Words of the Wandering," the third installment in the fantasy middle-grade series "The Crowns of Croswald," reminded me why I often hesitate to start ongoing series. It had been three years since I read the last book, and I had postponed reading this one in favor of Young Adult, Romance, and Fantasy genres. As a result, I struggled to recall details from the first two books, which was a less-than-ideal experience for a reader like me.

Nevertheless, I appreciate D. E. Night's writing style. Night skillfully provides brief backstories or reminders of characters and events from the earlier books, making it easier to dive into the third book.

As usual, "The Crowns of Croswald" presents a magical world full of wonderful adventures and captivating characters. While I missed seeing more of Fyn, I was excited to see more interactions between Glistle and Ivy. Despite this, I remain a steadfast Fyn-Ivy fan, and I enjoyed the small detail of Fyn’s jealousy.

Night masterfully weaves a story filled with a rollercoaster of emotions in Book 3. I found myself feeling sad for the characters, nervous for their safety, happy for their small victories, and grieving with them for their losses. Night’s storytelling in middle-grade books is superb, and I eagerly look forward to reading the final installment of the series, "The War of the Woods." Although I may not remember all the intricate details of the previous books, I know I enjoyed reading each one, as confirmed by revisiting my reviews.

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Words of the Wandering" and, like the first two books, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys middle-grade books, wholesome clean reads, fantasy, dragons, and magical towns in need of saving from a Dark Queen.

I am excited to read the fourth book and cannot wait to see how Ivy and her friends will defeat the Dark Queen and restore the rightful heir to the throne to lead and protect Croswald.

Crowns of Croswald 3-The words of the Wandering

I was given an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Rating:4/5 stars
Synopsis:
With the Dark Queen on the rise and still not all pieces of the Stone found, Ivys year at the Halls won’t be as pleasant as the years before. And adding to that, there are growing doubts of whom she can trust.

My thoughts:
First of all, the first two books were so magical, engaging and exciting, it`s difficult to keep up with my expectations by now.
This book suffers a bit from “Second Book Syndrome”, if you know what I mean. It`s clearly a bridge to, a setting up for the fourth and final book. The beginning was lovely and fun, some of the middle chapters dragged on though, and I felt like nothing happened. Some parts seemed like stupid actions to me, perhaps to keep the plot going. Other times I wondered why the characters didn’t just sit down and collect all their knowledge, but okay, they’re teenagers after all.
BUT: The last half of the book gains steadily in speed, letting you worry and fear for the characters that’ve grown so dear to you. The end was mean and left me crying. I now need the next book!

I liked how Ivy stays herself and still gets to grow over the time of this series. She’s a bit more confident now, especially when it comes to her magic. I was just sad that there wasn’t a lot of Fyn in this book, because he’s one of my favourites!
Some characters grow or change too, revealing other, perhaps darker, sides of themselves. I loved it.

My favourite parts about this book were probably the dragons. I mean, DRAGONS! Can’t have enough of them!
The book also left me with some questions. Like, is there no hospital wing in the Halls? Don’t the students ever get severely hurt? I sometimes felt like the students were a bit overpowered, but that feeling vanished, when the Dark Queen or some of her helpers appeared. But I do ask myself now whether there are just scrivenists and royals in this world, or if there are normal citizens too?
And teledetecting was explored too, which is really cool!

The best thing about his book, in my opinion, is the style. The writing just drags you in, makes you care and worry and love all the characters. The descriptions are lovely and magical and you can definitely imagine whatever scene is described.

With a little bonus for the beautiful cover, this book gains four stars. It`s not as perfect as the first two books, but still an enjoyable read.

The third book in The Crowns of Croswald series was published last May 2020 and I would like to commend the beautiful cover. I am honestly so in love with Croswald right now and I can't wait for the last book to come out! I'll surely be waiting for its release.

The book was quite easy to read as it was fun and adventurous. Like the previous books, it was magically written from start to finish. I was so hooked up that I was able to finish it in a day. Everything was beautifully and brilliantly written, and with a purpose. Yes, each chapter has a purpose to the story and I do appreciate the hints scattered in the story. We learned more about the history of the Wandering family, the Stones, and the Dark Queen.

Seven generations ago, the Lovely family was cursed by a dwarf. The curse turned out to be a blessing that saved the Queenly line from the Dark Queen. Ivy's powers grow stronger by day and the search for the last piece of the Kindred Stone continues.

Ivy acquires a journal, written by the all the Wandering Scrivenists, passed down from generation to generation. She finds solace in meeting and getting to know bits about her family, and at the same time, she searches for clues that might lead her to the final piece of the Kindred Stone. Ivy has come a long way from the Scaldrony maid to soon-to-be Queen of Croswald.

Third year in the Halls of Ivy will be different, especially with a Fyn-less school. There was less Fyn Greeley throughout the series but when he was present, my oh my, I can't help but squeal. I love the touch of romance in a magical book like this one.

Things are changing. Belzebuthe is no longer hidden or safe, Derwin's kept on being summoned back to Town, QQC is expanding their members and the creatures are restless. There is a betrayal. I just want to say that I KNEW IT. I was suspicious of this person since the first book and my guts were right! The how's and why's are currently unidentified as it will probably be answered in the last book.

All in all, I had quite an enjoyable ride reading the first three books. So many unanswered questions in my head right now. What I'd give to know all the answers. Thank you so much for this copy!

This is going to be a spoilery one!

Following Ivy from the 1st book to now, her character has grown so much and she’s got a lot of wonderful people around her! She’s not alone on this journey anymore! To name a few, Glistle and Gretta, Rebecca, Hayword, Woodley, and all the QQC club members, those kids are a gem! Also, finally, the thing between her and Damaris was sorted out! To add, she finally got to know about her family, even though it’s just through teledetecting, it was heart-filling!

I should say, Fyn and Ivy’s relationship have been finally recognized? Established? And it was not rushed, just the perfect timing. But that Circus date could have gone well! I was so bummed out that at the same time Derwin’s staged death must happen! Come on it’s supposed to be a fun date! Dear author, please give these two love birds a second chance at having a magical and fun-filled date! I think they deserve it!

I am glad that we get to finally see a point of view from the Dark Queen, that p.o.v. was sad to see, not for the Dark Queen but for Fyn’s father. She’s become more hostile than ever on her quest on owning the stones! I did see it coming though, her being Isabella and about the Selector. Glad Ivy made the smart decision on not putting both the stones in the same place!

Then we come to the scene where Ivy finally figured out where the third stone was and Rimbrick was alive, for just a short period though, what happened was heartbreaking. Fyn and Wisdom were there? What perfect timing? Why were they actually there?

That cliffhanger! I don’t know how Ivy will get out of that situation alive?

"Sometimes fear brings out the best, saves a life, changes the future."
All I know is Ivy will gonna come out victorious on this journey by gaining strength in that fear using it in a good way - a total opposite to her ancestor - the Dark Queen Isabella.

What chain of events led her to that? What did actually happen to Isabella?

I absolutely loved the first two instalments in this series and I'm so sad I didn't enjoy this one as much. This book just didn't add much to the world building, felt much slower paced and I really missed having Fyn around.

The thing I love most about these books is the window they give me into a fully-realised magical world that I just want to step inside and explore. Book 1 gave me a medieval fantasy setting, travelling by cabby, the Halls of Ivy, the experience of magical lessons and the structure of society in this world. Plus, the question of who Ivy and Derwin really were. In Book 2, I got to experience life in The Town, new lessons about magical creatures, more in depth explanations about using quills, using inklink and the excitement of joining a secret club. I loved mystery in this book as well.

However, in book 3 the only new type of lesson was a history one about famous scrivenists (interesting to the plot, not as exciting as glanageries or invisitaurs). There were only a few new settings and none of them felt as interesting or magical as previous ones. Plus, I couldn't work out what the main plot was. In the other books there's been lots of mysteries to solve and reasons Ivy had to sneak around. In this book, she breaks the rules just because she feels like it, she often doesn't need to. The plot felt like several totally separate story lines that played out and were wrapped up one after another with our having the high stakes of previous books. Close to the end, the action did pick up and it felt like the plot was moving forwards. However, with only a few pages left the end felt rushed and mostly a set up for the next book.

I intend to read book 4 as I want to see how the story wraps up. I also had such great time with the first two books that I know book 4 still has the potential to be great.

Title: The Words Of The Wandering

Author: D.E. Night

Synopsis: This whimsical fairytale pushes the boundaries of what middle-grade fantasy can be and readers won’t stop turning pages in this coming-of-age story.

In the third book of the series, The Words of the Wandering, Ivy’s power grows, and so does the Dark Queen’s intent to destroy her. Traveling far and wide, and even into the past, Ivy strains to discover the powers that brought the Queen into power and what her own role might be. A whirlwind chase to a magical circus, an enemy turning over a new leaf, a protector that can’t be trusted. Can Ivy work with friends––new and old––to recover what was lost? The stakes have never been higher.

Curious and whimsical, both shy and brave, Ivy is a hero that connects with readers of all ages. For those who wished that Narnia, Harry Potter, and Alice in Wonderland could go on forever, Croswald opens a whole new world of magic. Recommended as a read-aloud for families and a first middle-grade fantasy read, The Crowns of Croswald is a four-part series that will carry readers to a whimsical world that they won’t want to leave.

Review: There were so many twists and turns in this book! I loved the development of an Ivy and Fyn! I do wish we would have gotten a little more of him! But I understand why he wasn’t in it as much as the first two! I loved some of the new discoveries! I loved the circus scenes and the descriptions! I need to point out that when I finished this I was in absolute shock and I am so happy that I waited to finish this series until the last book came out because that ending!!! I needed it asap which I did! Also I was so happy we got to see Rimbrick again! Although it wasn’t long enough I have loved the few scenes we got with him in this series! I wish there was more! I can’t get enough of this whole world that has been created! I wish it was real! If you will excuse me I will be reading The War Of The Woods!

A special thanks to D. E. Night, Stories Untold Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced electronic copy of The Words of the Wandering (release date: May 30, 2020).

The third installment of The Crowns of Croswald is full of adventure, friendship, dragons, magic, & the continued search for answers & understanding for the protagonist, Ivy Lovely. While deepening and forming new friendships, Ivy is determined to dive further into her family's unique past & do whatever is necessary to find the third & final piece of the Kindred Stone. While taking new classes & recruiting new members for the Quality Quills Club (QQC), creatures are appearing (& disappearing) for unexplained reasons & strange things are happening in & around the Hall of Ivy, which can only be the work of the Dark Queen. While swept off to the circus on her first real date with Fyn, the magical fun quickly turns into another devastating mystery needing to be solved.

D. E. Night continues to build on the world of Croswald and its unique magic & fascinating characters in The Words of the Wandering. This book was a fun, easy read which was hard to put down, as I was eager to see what was in store for Ivy & her friends from chapter to chapter. If you are looking for a middle grade fantasy that contains the right amount of adventure, friendship, and mystery to keep you entertained, I highly suggest this series! Be sure to read the first two installments, The Crowns of Croswald & The Girl with the Whispering Shadow, before diving into The Words of the Wandering. I can't wait to see what happens next in the fourth book!

Yet another exciting and magical journey that I truly enjoyed!

The Words of the Wandering picks up quickly from it's prequel, The Girl with the Whispering Shadow. However, Ivy has no clue as to where to look for the third and final piece of the Kindred Stone. Instead, she decides to dive into the diary of generations of royal scrivenist assigned to her family in hopes to uncover the past and hopeful fish out some clues about the lost stone. Throughout the journey, more unexpected revelations and secrets were revealed, new friendships form and romance blossoms.

In any good stories, the unveiling of the past is an essential element to me. It makes me more connected to the character which in turn will cause me to like the character even more. With so much of the past being written in this installment, I can sense a deeper connection to this series.

I was also excited to see new alliances form. Here, Ivy and her enemy in school makes peace with each other after attempting a project together in a glanagerie. Additionally, new club members were added after an exciting three round trial.

Besides that, I was also pleased that Fyn took Ivy out on their first date although it did not end up that well. I just love this cute couple!

Although this book ended with a cliffhanger, which can be torturous indeed, I actually think it ended well and at a climax. Clearly, this means I might go begging for the next installment to be release now! Unfortunately, I don't think that is going to happen since this book will only be released in May 2020. Ha! Good luck to me and all readers out there. Haha..

Highly recommend fantasy lovers to give this series a try, especially if you enjoyed Harry Potter.

Holy cow. The first two books of this series were good, but I felt this third book in the series topped them both. While the first book built up a wondrous world, and the second book developed it further, as well as some of the characters, the Words of the Wondering developed the plot further for the series.

First, it was lovely to see the relationship growing between Fyn and Ivy. The series so far has built up their connection, and it was only natural for their friendship to grow. D.E. Night did a great job there, but I’d like to see more in the next book (fingers-crossed).

There were some very intense moments throughout the book, namely the scene at the lake with the swimming trial the newest members of the QQC undertook. I won’t spoil it, but I was gripped to the pages while reading that chapter.

I really liked the introduction of the circus and the magical delights it had. I was unconvinced of one of the characters’ demise at the event, and was proven right by the end of the book, which was nice. There were a few tense moments for a while there, though.

But that ending. I am still feeling the remnants of shock at how the book ended, and I’m so eager for the fourth and final book to be released to find out what happened. Will Ivy and her friends survive the Dark Queen? Only the next book will tell.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I love Ivy Lovely’s world, and I liked how her confidence grows over the books. I feel she’ll grow even further into who she’s meant to be by the end of the series.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

(3.5/5 stars rounded up to 5)

This is the first book of the series that I've had the pleasure of reading as a physical paperback. I always loved the art, and giving a physicality to them added even more to the words on the pages.

Again, Night does an expert job of reminding the reader of the events of the previous books without being condescending or letting them take up too much space.

This one was slow with some exciting spikes here and there, but by this far into the series I am very invested in the worldbuilding and characters (like I wasn't already at the very start!). And it makes sense considering the (no spoilers) last book's exciting events! Towards the last quarter or so of this book, I started noticing that the writing was starting to lack a little. VERY minor (like 3 tiny issues), and that really just goes to show how great the writing is otherwise.

There is character development, but some of it feels rushed and simplified, though perhaps because this is a middle grade series.

There is a fat character, who - haha, likes to eat - hilarious! (Sarcasm). But thankfully it isn't too frequent.

It's hard to give this a review, much less a rating. It is most certainly the *third* book in a series - a bridge between the second and fourth book. It sets the future up well, keeps current things interesting enough, and continues to build on the past. I cannot wait to read the last book - I have a feeling that the last fifth or so of this book was just a taste of what the last final one will be like!

If I would choose only one book in this trilogy, I don't know which one I will pick. I love how the consistency of D.E. Night's beautiful writing stays in the second and third books. Absolutely wonderfully written and filled with interesting characters. The Words of the Wandering is a real page-turner! I even love Humboldt more here, like a very affectionate puppy. I remember how much hanging I've felt in the first book because I'm expecting so much about Ivy's pet, but now I understand all the cliffhangers.
I'm so attached to Rebecca and Fyn it felt like they became my friends too. There's an incredibly somber mood that descends on me after reading this book. The last page really put me on the edge of my seat. The author really starts taking the story down a darker road in this book. She's so talented at character development and it really shines on this third one.
Seriously, why this trilogy seems like a fast read to me? It's one of those un-put-downable books I can't help but to turn and turn the pages. I just wanna know what happens next. The illustrations are impeccable and flawless as usual that made me fall in love more in the story.
D.E. Night just makes her stories that exciting. It's very educational as well as entertaining. I am ready to pop off on anyone who says they don't like this book. Highly recommended!

This was my favorite of the series so far!
I loved the dragons, I loved a more in depth look at inklink, learning more about Ivy's family history and the new characters we got to meet/the old characters that were only mentioned in passing in earlier books that we got to know better.
While it kind of seemed like a "filler" book and the middle was a little bit slow, the beginning and end were super fun. Some of the plot twists were super foreshadowed, but I think that was the point. I thought at first it was a little bit too much foreshadowing, but after finishing, it didn't seem like that.
I love how confident Ivy is getting with her magic and also how confident her friends are becoming as well. Rebecca's transformations always add such a magical element to the story. The QQC becoming a group to support and protect Ivy was so heartwarming and the fact that they chose trials to choose who was the bravest and most loyal was a great idea. Although I felt it was a little too fast at first and then cut too short, I did want to see Demaris turn around and become someone Ivy is friends with.
The ending was so fast paced and exciting and ended on such a cliffhanger, I can't wait for the fourth book!

This series is so much fun. I loved The Crowns of Croswald and The Girl with the Whispering Shadow so much and I think the characters just keep developing so well as the series continues. Ivy is a great protagonist and I enjoy her coming into her own and the bonds she's made with the other characters. I'm so upset this book left off on a cliffhanger and I can't wait for The War of the Woodsto be released!!! I didn't expect to be so attached and love this series so much, but these are books I can't put down. I think the magic system is really fun and there's a nice bit of whimsy that creates the perfect balance for a middle grade or general audience. I really enjoy this series!

“We do not forget who we are.”

The Words of the Wandering, book 3 in The Crowns of Croswald series, picks right up where we were left on book 2 - Ivy was instructed by the Selector to hide the two pieces of the Kindred Stone in the Forgotten Room. While she was there, she finds a family book written by all of her family’s scrivenists meant to be read only by family members. After spending her summer vacations with Rebecca’s family and visiting Belzebuthe (and Fyn), Ivy returns to school.
This is the 3rd year in the Halls of Ivy, with new professors and subjects. The QQC holds trials for new members, since 3 of their previous members graduated, while mysterious events are taking place.

This book has a darker mood than the two previous in the series. The stakes are higher and we get a more introspective Ivy, reflecting on her ancestors, her hopes and her fears. There are lot of questions raised, that keeps our main character wondering whom can she actually trust.
The pace is slower, but the magic is fascinating as always, with a great world building.
The book ends with major revelations and I definitely need to know what is going to happen next.
