Everett Jewel is the hottest star the London stage has seen in a generation. He is brash, sensual, and sure of himself. Men and women throw themselves at his feet, and he laps up the attention. But all of Everett’s glittering star power hides his wounded heart. He has adoration, but he longs for a love that he doesn’t think he’s worthy of, due to his dark past.
Metropolitan Police officer Patrick Wrexham has never been wanted by anyone. From the time he was a child, fighting for scraps in the orphanage where he was raised, he has always been overlooked, in spite of his good heart and determination to protect the weak. He is the complete opposite of Everett in every way, and he knows it. Which is why he has been infatuated since the moment he first saw Everett perform.
When Everett and Patrick team up to hunt down the ringleaders of a child kidnapping ring, their skills make them the perfect professional match. But sparks fly between them right from the start, creating a tempestuous, sensual partnership. And when Everett’s ego lands him in deeper trouble than he ever could have dreamed of, it’s up to Patrick to become the hero he never believed he could be to save the man he loves.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: Steam level – very spicy! And yes, this is an m/m romance, so if that’s not your thing, feel free to pass on this one.

This is a very ADULT book with ADULT subject matter. It's very sad in many ways, showing how being gay can have terrible consequences on a man's psyche.I
When I pictured Everett, I pictured the late, great Liberace, the gay flamboyant concert pianist and entertainer, very popular in the 60a and 70s. He even dressed in 18th century type dandy clothing, with lots of lace at the wrist, and ruffles, spangles, and rhinestones. If you are too young to remember him, check him out on line!
Everett Jewel is the arrogant and always confident star of the London stage. He adores the spotlight, but his glittering facade hides a wealth of pain and feelings of unworthiness he harbors due to his nightmarish past.
Patrick Wrexham has never been loved or wanted by anyone. After growing up fighting for every scrap of food in an orphanage, he's used to being overlooked. This struggle led to his determination to protect the weak and now he's made a career out of that drive and his ability to blend in as a Metropolitan Police Officer. Patrick and Everett couldn't be more opposite, so of course Patrick has quietly been a fan ever since he first saw one of Everett's plays.
When his latest investigation into a child kidnapping ring leads Patrick to work with Everett, their respective skills make them a great team on a professional level, but the tension between them in other areas is palpable. When Everett takes his arrogant showmanship too far, it's up to Patrick to embrace feelings he never thought himself capable of and become the hero.
There was so much palpable tension here and it was delicious. That tension was perhaps drawn out a bit long, although on the other hand, I think the build-up was necessary for Patrick's character. I loved the furtherance of the kidnapping investigation and my only complaint is that things fell apart a bit near the end and all the main and supporting characters made decisions that seemed to come out of left field and felt very out of character. But things are also falling apart for our villains and I'm looking forward to the next story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a great addition to the Brotherhood Series. The hunt for the children that were kidnapped and sold into slavery or the sex trade continues but now the main ring leaders have been discovered, even if they are currently on the run, Scotland Yard is after them. The main focus of this story is the relationship between Everett and Patrick and their involvement in this investigation. The story is well written in that the two main characters have hidden past that are still haunting them today. Some headway is made for Patrick and Everett to confront and rise above these demons. This is a great series and I would highly recommend it as a great read.
The fabulous Thespian Everett Jewel & stoic Police Officer Patrick Wrexham come together to deal with a criminal ring, childhood trauma while falling in Love in this historical romance. I really enjoy this series, although it deals with intense subject matters, it’s still charming and sexy, too. However, I didn’t quite believe the fast connection between Everett & Patrick as I did the other couplings in the previous books. Still, I’m hooked and I await the next installment: where’s Lily Logan?
Readers of the previous two books in this series have been waiting for Britain's great stage actor Everett Jewel and Metro detective Patrick Wrexham to get more involved in the ongoing mystery of finding the perpetrators of a ring of child kidnappers and abusers.
Good news: They are the MCs in this one, and that's the first surprise because they seemingly cannot be more opposite in character and background than their stations in life would suggest.
Better news: They get to know each other in every respect, and the explosive nature of their developing romance is perfectly suited to a fast-moving, rough and tumble, often scary and almost tragic plot.
This book is on a "Wow! Level" more so that the first two in that there is more on-the-ground action and more down-to-earth lovemaking. It's a sensational continuation of a series which just gets more exceptional as it goes on, and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author via Booksprout. What follows is my honest review:
This is the first book by Merry Farmer that I’ve ever read. I love MM historical romances so she was definitely an author I wanted to check out. Her other books had lots of good reviews so I went into this with high expectations. I thought the premise sounded interesting: a cop and an actor team up to bring down a group of child molesters.
After reading through the first few chapters of this book though, I had the feeling that is just wasn’t for me. I didn’t finish the book because if I had picked it up in a library, I wouldn’t have finished it in that case either.
It could be that I didn’t read the first two books in this series, but I felt like I was missing a lot of information. I understand that “The Brotherhood” is a group of gay men in Victorian England that look out for each other against persecution. An interesting concept, though the men in this group act rather casually to each other.
In the first chapter, we meet the main characters: Patrick the cop, and Everett the actor. Patrick has a major crush on Everett and gets a boner in the presence of two other detectives in the room, of whom Patrick is merely an acquaintance. I get that they’re interacting in a “gay-ok” space, but I thought it strange for a grown man to get a hard-on in that situation. They talk about bringing down child-molesters and then a few sentences later talk about cock sucking in the first chapter. I thought that was weird. Then they leave the office arm in arm, which wouldn’t have been era-appropriate behavior. Not very believable.
The scenes of seduction were also handled clumsily. They both want each other from the very beginning, so that doesn’t leave a lot of room for seduction. They don’t have to make up their minds whether or not they like the other. When they first get up to Everett’s room in chapter three Everett is very explicit “let’s f--- and suck”, and Patrick, for moral reasons I guess, has reservations. Now, I love a good spicy scene, and direct language can certainly be used in the right situation. I just don’t think it was handled very well.
In conclusion: A lot of other readers really like this series but it wasn’t for me. I skimmed through most of the book so I might be giving it short change. But the author failed to hook my interest early on so I feel like my responses are valid. If you’re bored during the first episode of a tv series, do you continue? Probably not, even if others tell you “but it gets good in season 2”.
Short rant... childhood trauma may be overcome, but it is never forgotten. Sadly, even in this day and age, our children are still the forgotten... the throwaways... the sacrificed. What do I mean by this? There are many things that have improved the lives of our children during our lifetime, but when we live in a world that you can get more jail time for abusing your dog than you can get for killing a child... that is a situation that needs to be addressed! Here in West Virginia, we have the highest number of grandparents raising their grandchildren in the country... all because of an opioid epidemic that devastated our state and destroyed tens of thousands of families whose children were left behind by their parents who didn't survive their addiction... all for the mighty dollar that was made by the wealthy that had invested in the big pharmacy companies! When we live in a nation that we are being told that our children must make the sacrifice and go back to school without the necessary safety precautions in place... who will explain to those children that catch the virus and live with the damage that will be done to their lungs for the rest of their lives that our "economy" just had to take precedence over their health? Even though it "looks" like our children are being taken care of... in reality, they are still the ones left behind... unable to care for themselves and dependent upon others to care for them... so I ask, what has actually changed over the last one hundred or so years? Rant over... sorry for such a long rant this time, but as a mother and a grandmother, sometimes my heart just breaks when I watch the news and my brain wonders why these things are allowed to happen. :(
Now, for the story... it was all the things I look for in a book! Characters with depth and emotions that bring tears to your eyes or joy to your heart! The words just flowed and as always in a series, it was nice to see or at least hear about the characters from past books! *grin*

This is the third book in this brilliant riveting series, it could be read on its own but I’d recommend reading the whole series to fully appreciate & to be able to completely involved in the thread of the child kidnapping ring. I came to this book with preconceived ideas about Everett & boy were they blown out of the water, the more I read the more I liked him & my heart bled for all he’d suffered & my admiration grew for him. I loved Patrick from the start but once again my heart bled for his childhood & thank goodness he kept his food pouch. A very well written book that luckily I began early in the day as I didn't have to read into the night as no way could I put it down. I was taken on a plethora of emotions from tears to laughter. This series goes from strength to strength & is definitely a keeper My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is the 3rd book in the Brotherhood Series, and the 3rd I have read. It is not often I get involved with a series, but this one intrigued me from the 1st offering. Merry Farmer continues to mix romance with danger and intrigue along with interesting characters in this series of m/m romance and relationships. Each story is different connected by common elements and characters that continue to pop up throughout the series. “Just a Little Danger” is a culmination of sorts of the child kidnapping case that has been plaguing London and the surrounding areas. Scotland Yard police officer Patrick Wrexham and entertainer Elliot Jewel are thrown together to hunt down the criminal elements. Exact opposites in personality, these two try to navigate the romance waters amid Jewel’s fans and his heartbreaking upbringing and Patrick’s shyness and worry about being caught breaking the law if he and Jewel were to become intimate. We do find out who the man with the lion is and how he is connected with the nefarious ring. It can be read as a stand-alone romance but I think it is better to begin the series from the start to get a full understanding who The Brotherhood are and what they stand for, the membership, and the mystery of the child kidnapping ring that arcs throughout the stories and touches many of their lives, ultimately bringing the couples together as lifelong, loving partners. This is an m/m romance and is extremely spicy with m/m sexual encounters. This particular story does contain child and sexual abuse. On to Book #4 in the series!
I have read and loved Merry Farmer’s Regency romances from the first time I found her writing. I have also been enjoying m/m romance books for a few years now. When I found out that she was going to combine the two genres I was so excited. I am even more excited to read this series and not just the individual romances, but also the overall story about children being stolen and sold. It not only joins the books together but gives the characters motivation and adventures that bring so much to the stories. The books bring up a lot of what I enjoy so much about the stories of men and women loving those of the same sex in historical times. As Merry says in her afterword as much as some people like to think that people being lbgt+ is a new phenomena that is patently untrue. Now all of that may make these books sound like a sermon nothing could be further from the truth. Merry may have a lot to say about society but she always writes a ripping great yarn. This book being one of those. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one.

Ooooooooof. What a great addition to The Brotherhood series but ouch, it is not for the faint of heart. We get Officer Wrexham and Everett Jewel's stories this time and both of them are quite dark. Farmer doesn't belabor them, but child sexual abuse and food insecurity do a lot of damage.
That said, I really appreciated both the ongoing trafficking ring plot (with quite a few more locations now to really give heft to it; this is such a great picture of how wealth/power vie with the law--and often win) but I loved this pairing. These two men are so incredibly broken and have to be honest about that with each other and it's sweet and lovely and infuriating and sad and beautiful. I was so hecking proud of both of them by the end of this and absolutely cheering for their strength and growth.
This does some great things with showing some of 19th century theatre and law enforcement as well. A much harder read than the first two because of the content, but absolutely a worthy and engaging and powerful book.
An unlikely pair, Everett Jewel and Officer Patrick Wrexham. Everett has been the over the top actor from book one. But do we really know Everett? I think that oftentimes loud people are hiding sadness and insecurities. Patrick is the by the book cop. What do we know of Patrick’s background? Everett and Patrick are beautiful people who have had a hard life but learn to lean on each other. While reading this story, I felt the vulnerability of these characters. In fact, I felt as if I was looking into their world and should have been shying away. There are a lot of painful moments. There are equally a lot of lovely scenes where you can sense their caring and love. I still love Stephen (with his glasses) from the last book but Everett (who I just passed by as a character) is now also ingrained in my mind.
No one could really comprehend the evil someone had to possess to orchestrate the atrocities that was happening to the most vulnerable in their society. Patrick wasn't sure how he found himself working along side someone like Everrett but here he was as they frantically searching for the man Everett swore up and down was one of the ones they needed to find. They may have been total polar opposites Everett whole heartily embraced a more flamboyant personality while Patrick was a quieter soul whom held himself back. They both knew the up hill battle they faced against men considered far beyond their reach so they had to find more proof they would shine a bright light on their nefarious deeds that no one could doubt.

Everett Jewel - London stage star, loved by many, hides his pain. A man who suffered such atrocities, there was still the longing to be loved by that special someone. With the secrets of his past, can he let someone in and let down his guard? One thing about pain and secrets, you are never alone in their grasp.
Patrick Wrehxam is a Metropolitan police officer and never seen as the desire of someones eye. Raised in an orphanage, he had plenty of love to give and no one to share it with.
One unusual circumstance brings two men, who otherwise may not cross the other's path, together. Opposites attract, sparks fly and the underlying desire began to rear its head. Just the sweet romance they both need.

Everett Jewell has a traumatic past after being sold to an evil man and being abused by another owner. He now has a chance to stop these horrible people from the child trafficking ring they’ve conjured up.
Patrick is a detective with Scotland Yard who’s working with David and Lionel’s offices to catch the same ring. When he and Everett go after the man with the lion tattoo, they become close.
For Everett, it’s the way Patrick cares for him, not as an admirer of his work, but as a human being. For Patrick, it’s Everett knowing he was a starving child who was helpless in an orphanage.
The wounded souls recognize and heal each other, and together, they find enough evidence to take down the ring. But, the three masterminds behind it escape, so now it will be up to David and Lionel to track them down in the next instalment. I look forward to it.
A lovely story where good triumphs over evil and love concourse all. A wealth of information and a sight into history and how things have changed. With characters you can relate to on one level or another and a sense of belonging that we all can relate to in one way or another. I love the way Merry can transport you back in time but with a feeling of somehow understanding what is still relevant today. A story that captures the imagination from the get go and is so captivating that you stay awake until you have read the full story and can't seem to put it down to even just make a cup of tea.
Patrick, the copper, is charming on his innocence. Everett, the actor, is charming in his embrace of who he is. I got the impression the author wanted to portray Patrick as shy. In my mind he was inexperienced due to minimal interaction with people as outgoing as Everett. I liked the couple and the way they got to know each other. The child kidnapping ring story takes a different turn. Hope you read the first two books they help link it all together. I'm looking forward to book 4. Lionel and David have been teasing me through 3 books.
Everett is the star on the London stage and the toast of the town all the while hiding his pain of being used and abused over the years. Patrick is also hiding his own pain of growing up hungry in the orphanage but he has chosen a different path as he is a policeman. While working to track down some children traffickers they meet and work together. This is a adult story with adult theme but a really sweet romance story between two lost souls who find their match in each other.
This one has better pacing but it’s still over the top dramatic. And it also has at least one glaring error. At the exciting part someone escapes in a speeding carriage. Later the heroes stop a carriage before it takes off and neutralize the occupant….same dude who sped off earlier. Mistakes like that are unforgivable.
This is only the 3rd of 10 books and they’ve already solved the mystery. Do we really need 7 books for cleanup?
So yes this was a little over the top. Nobles keeping cages for humans and exotic animals. Being thrown into a pit with a ravenous lion and not only surviving but also saving your love... sigh. I am so into the child kidnapping story line! I can't wait for the next book .Patrick's sexual awakening was wonderful. Jewel's backstory heart rending. Now I want more Lionel please.
I will be ecstatic when the evil villains of the child trafficking ring get their comeuppance!! What’s really heartbreaking is that the same evil is alive and active today. What a great love story between Patrick and Everett this was! Having two broken people find healing and love is always inspiring. Looking forward to the fireworks of Lionel and David and Cristofiori (sp.?) and Kilby!
Book three in The Brotherhood series a well written story I was not putting down until I had finished it. This is Everett Jewel is the hottest star the London stage and Metropolitan Police officer Patrick Wrexham's story a very good M/M story with suspense, drama, danger, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked how different Patrick and Everett were but how great they were together. I loved that this book has the continuation of the search for the child kidnapping ring. Patrick and Everett's story was another great addition to this series and I enjoyed it.

So far Patrick and Everett are my favorite couple.. I felt such heartache for Patrick and what he went through as a child as well as Everett and then coming together was just perfect... I'm still totally engrossed in the plot about the kidnap children and and anxious to move on to the next book.. Off to book 4
Oh. My. Goodness. Look. I didn't like Everett in the previous books and I'd never have paired him with Patrick Wexham. But. Hot. Damn. They were so perfect together. What a truly enjoyable read. I'm not sure where the plot is going to go from here. I'm desperately curious about Lionel and David but I suppose I'll have to be patient and see what happens.
The protagonists have both had terrible childhoods. Like, the one reminded me of bits about Pharaohlight prostitutes in Sarah Monette's Doctrine of Labyrinths series. The other had hoarding habits born of deprivation. But they work through their traumas, and to some extent help each other deal with their respective traumas.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm still enjoying this series. The stories are intriguing enough to keep me reading, even if they are a little far fetched at times. Patrick and Everett were an unlikely couple and I really don't get what Lionel's problem is, but I guess that will finally be explained in the next book
The story of Patrick and Everett was very exciting! Both men grew up in very different but difficult circumstances, which caused them to each have their own trauma to deal with. And in addition to the hunt for the men involved in a child kidnapping ring, there was also a really dangerous situation with a lion.
I really enjoyed this audiobook narrated by Charles Robert Fox.
Everett and Patrick story An awesome book entertaining, captivating and interesting read with kidnapping, betrayal and deceit. Part of a series The Brotherhood. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. steam and MM.
Patrick is a police officer trying to break a child sex ring. Everett is an actor with information about the sex ring. He also wants to help. They both are attracted to each other but have secrets that they're afraid to revel. This series just gets better and better. I can't wait for the next book.
