Content:

Language: Mild. There were one or two mild swear words.

Violence: Mild. A lot of magical peril, some non-bloody injuries.

Sexual: Mild. Clean romance, kissing, hugs but nothing steamy.

This is the second book in the werewolf series, featuring Rory the redhead (coincidence on the name? I think not) and Aileen, a huntress. It's a loose retelling of Little Red Riding Hood with gender reversal.

Once again, Rory and Aileen are inexplicably attracted to each other immediately upon seeing each other. The romance is instantaneous, with a not at all interesting tension device of teaming up to get the same object for which they want for different reasons. Betrayal is inevitable type plot that I found shaky at best. The set up for it wasn't believable, there were plenty of ways they could both get what they wanted without having the forced existential crisis of "oh no, but I love him/her, but I need to protect my family so I guess I'll have to choose" thing. I thought of three separate (very obvious) solutions to it while reading. It was boring.

And Rory's main character trait was red hair and family loyalty. I honestly didn't get that he had any sort of unique personality at all besides being generally likable and the everyman type. Aileen was the same. We were told that she's this great huntress, she sacrificed her dreams for her family, and yet I had little view into who she actually was personality-wise.

Guess that means they suit each other after all?

It was a lackluster read. Even more so than the first book.

Not as good

As the first

Relied too much on this other series' story to fill in background.
Missing words. Typos. Really bad grammar. Wrong words chosen and used.
"Picked up his forked and" forked what? Nothing. She meant his fork.
Very choppy writing. And reading. Led to me putting the book down at 34% & 63%, but by that point, I was more than halfway through. Then again 75% and 88%, but I was nearly. At the end. (Yes, that's how the author wrote.)

The "romance" is definitely forced. It would have been better if the book were longer to develop the relationship or if the author didn't harp on the distrust and betrayal between the two main characters.

Also - the "betrayal"? Seriously? These two strangers were "thrust together" and suddenly expected to trust each other? Why didn't the author harp on the "betrayal" of Rory's secret? In fact, why did Rory reveal himself the way he did?

There were far too many plot holes, several glossed over or completely ignored. There's a "surprise character" in one scene/chapter, and I'm sure he's going to make a come back in future books/a future book, but they completely ignored this random who knew far too much because it was safer for them to return home? So not only do they ignore him, they then proceed to completely forget him or the danger he represents.
1 star. But I'll leave it at 2 because I did read to the end.

And it's Aileen who betrays him for it.
The Golden Shield belonged to Aileen's family, once. Before it was stolen by a greedy nobleman. Now, Rory's unexpected appearance offered the perfect opportunity to reclaim the legacy that was rightfully hers.
When her deceit leads Rory into a trap, however, Aileen can't leave him behind.
But will rescuing him leave both their families at the mercy of a big bad enemy hellbent on harnessing the power of the Shield?

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

RED WOLF HUNTING is the second book in the Wolves Ever After series. You don't need to have read book one, although the characters are mentioned in passing.

Aileen is prepared to partner with Rory in search of the Golden Shield. Rory wants to destroy it as it could control him and the rest of his wolf-kin. Aileen wants to protect it and hide it from sight, as it is a family relic. Together, they need to retrieve it from those who stole it.

Aileen and Rory didn't quite grab me as much as Sterling and Myra did in Book One, but I still enjoyed their story. What I've found with Amberlyn Holland books is that the story revolves around the main characters getting to know each other - usually through trying times - and leading up to their relationship together, not the relationship itself.

It is Aileen's sister and Rory's partner next up so who knows where their story will take us?

An enjoyable addition to the series and recommended by me.

Ancient relics. A prophecy. Jaguar shifters and wolf shifters. Rory and his pack mate are on a quest to find a magical artifact and destroy it so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. He is looking for a seer he met years ago who might be able to point him in the right direction. When he finds her, she doesn’t have the magical ball anymore but he recognizes her. She tells him she can’t help him but she realizes he is after the same thing she and her two nieces are, their family legacy that was stolen from them. One niece is in the camp of the enemy looking for a way to get it back, but her other niece Aileen decides to act like she will help Rory, but instead turn him in the wrong direction so he can’t endanger her sister. But they have a common enemy and until they decide to be truthful and work together the enemy will win. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

“ If you're looking for a clean fairy tale fantasy romance featuring wolf-shifters, strong women, adventure, magic and happily-ever-after, don't miss the entire Wolves Ever After series of re-imagined fairy tales.“
So this is book two which I was more then happy to dive into after reading book one and this time we follow Aileen a wolf hunter and Rory a wolf shifter as they look together to find the Golden shield, both with different intentions! It’s action packed, exciting and thrilling as their journey is tense and their chemistry undeniable and the story unfolds. Magical, suspenseful and full of twists and turns, it’s a fantastic addition to a fantastic series and I can’t wait to read book three.

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. The series continues as Rory, one of the wolf shifters, embarks on a journey to find a missing family heirloom and return it to his family before it falls into evil hands. It is while he looks for clues, that he is led to a spiritualist, one that he visited long ago. Little does he know, that visit will turn into a race to find what he is seeking, and may have him finding himself lost in the woman who will accompany him. Beware of traps, danger around every corner, and the pull of success biting his heels. The ending will leave you warm-hearted and wanting to know what happens next. Be prepared for a long night of reading as this story pulls you in and keeps your attention til the last page

Red Wolf Hunting is very action packed, romance and paranormal fantasy. Aileen meets Rory and learns that he is looking for something. She decided to help him since she is looking for the same thing. Will they find what they are working for? Will they be able to work together to get it or will they betray each other? Will Aileen and Rory be able to fight there attraction?

It will seem that the story will continue with Caitlyn and Doane. Maybe we will see more of Aileen and Rory.

Rory is a wolf shifter on a mission to find a magical artifact to destroy it. He enlists the help of Aileen, a seer with her own motives to find the relic. Will they be able find it ahead of those that would use its power to destroy them? This is an exciting tale with suspense and adventure! I definitely recommend this book!

The story, at times, becomes pedantic. The third encounter with Isadora came at me with a sense of dread. Aileen and Rory provide a serious amount of tension. The ending was marginally satisfying and definitely a foreshadowing of the next book.

Action-packed. Entertaining. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

A paranormal fantasy full of action, suspense and romance. Wonderfully written story with great characters and storyline.  Aileen is a hunter and wants to find a magical artifact that belongs to her family. She offers to help Rory, a wolf shifter to find the same artifact she seeks. A journey that will keep you turning pages. It was very entertaining.

This was a great book. It just pulls you in and you want to keep reading until the end. Then I wanted to start the next book, but I have to wait until the author finishes it. Don't forget to read the first one in the series, or this won't make as much sense. It's also best to read the Dragons Ever After series before this series.

Both Aileen and Rory are on the hunt for a magic artifact. Aileen agrees to hunt for it alongside Rory but they both have different intentions of what is to be done with it once it’s found.
This book does end in a bit of a cliffhanger and leave you wanting to read the next book in the series.

Good read

Roy and Aileen were both after the same relic but for vastly different reasons. Trusting one another seemed impossible yet alone neither could succeed. Can't wait until the next book to find out what happens next.

I loved this book EVEN MORE than the first one!

Which is crazy, because I really didn’t think anything would top a Snow Queen retelling, especially not a Little Red Riding Hood retelling. (No hate to the fairytale—it’s just not one of my faves.)

Rory and Aileen’s chemistry was BEAUTIFUL!! Significantly less insta-love-y than The Snow Wolf was, but still fast-paced and swoony!
There were times where I feel Rory fell into the “hot-tempered redhead” cliche a little too easily, but other than that, I absolutely adored it! And I think I’m starting to get a better construct of the world. (There were still some things that I’m SURE are related to the Dragon Ever After series that I didn’t have the full context for, but other than that, I found the background information much easier to follow…perhaps because I’d already read The Snow Wolf.)

This book wasn’t without its flaws—mainly, info-dumping and typos—but the story itself was beautiful and enjoyable! I personally found the ending to be somewhat unexpected. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in a neutral way. I didn’t realise there would be a loose end or two in order to make way for book three, but it was still satisfactory enough that this doesn’t knock it down a peg.

Overall, if you love enemies-to-lovers, deceit and trickery, huntsman type FMCs and sweet but hot-tempered MMC’s, then you’ll probably enjoy this story! Assuming you’re willing to show grace to the more technical flaws.
