Meghan and Harry: The Real Story

Rate this book
The fall from popular grace of Prince Harry, the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to the beautiful and dynamic Hollywood actress and Suits star, Meghan Markle, makes for fascinating reading in this new book from Lady Colin Campbell, best-selling biographer of Princess Diana, the Queen Mother and the Queen's marriage.

With unique breadth of insight Lady C goes behind the scenes, speaking to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unexpected royal story since Edward VIII's Abdication. She highlights the dilemmas involved and the issues that lurk beneath the surface, as to why the couple decided to step down as senior royals. She analyses the implications of the actions of a young and ambitious Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in love with each other and with the empowering lure of fame and fortune, and leads the reader through the maze of contradictions, revealing how Californian culture has influenced the couple's conduct.

MEGHAN AND HARRY: THE REAL STORY exposes how the royal couple tried and failed to change the royal system by adapting it to their own needs and ambitions, and, upon failing, how they decided to create a new system altogether.

Lady Colin Campbell, (née Georgia Arianna Ziadie, known as Georgie), is a British writer, biographer, autobiographer, novelist, and television and radio personality, known for her biography of Diana, Princess of Wales, The Real Diana, as well as for other books on the Royal Family and wealthy people.

Campbell was born in Jamaica, the child of Michael and Gloria Ziadie. Her maternal great-grandmother, family name De Pass, was Sephardic Jew.

In 1974, she married Lord Colin Ivar Campbell, the son of Ian Campbell, 11th Duke of Argyll; she divorced him in 1975.

She is the mother of two adopted Russian-born sons, Dima and Misha. She lives in Kennington, UK.

Final summing up. Scurrilous rubbish designed to make money and following in her line of books about the royals, all damning and bile-filled except for Prince Charming and Queen-to-be Camilla. The use of so many spoilers is because some of what I have written is repetitive and it is all about the damning-with-almost-invisibly-faint-praise the author writes. You can choose which examples you want to read and those the headline suffices.

Update 6. "...but one must remember that she admits that much of what she writes is her own subjective view. " a href="https://harrymarkle.wordpress.com/&qu... Markle So that covers all the stuff like Meghan is a porn star and all the rest of the distasteful and spiteful crap.

Update 5 Pot calling the kettle black!
____________________

I find the author substitutes her hatred of Meghan and Diana (who is almost as prominent in the book) for credibility, she builds on gossip, the tabloids and out and out invention but carefully written as 'maybe' and 'who knows'. Her sources are almost all unnamed - princes and princesses who confide in her their always negative feelings about Meghan, same with ex-friends, ex-co-workers, ex-employees, etc.

Since the only prince who even vaguely tolerates her according the sort of sources she uses - tabloids, is Charles, who are all these unnamed princes who wish to gossip about Meghan with her? I have a lot of doubts about any of her unnamed sources whether or not they even exist.

She hates the Queen (still a virgin) and the late Queen Mother (illegitimate) too.

The book is changing! The author hasn't given up being really nasty about Meghan and Diana but has stopped using her venom and gossip as though they were 'facts' or at least pretty solid suppositions for a hatched job. What she has done is move on to things that Meghan has done in the public eye and don't reflect on her well. And naturally wherever it is (in)appropriate will add negative criticism and outright hatred of Princess Diana (but making out that everyone felt like that about her. Was she jealous of her genuinely aristocratic status and popularity?) Anyway the book is becoming more serious and more enjoyable. The writing still makes it a trial to read, but the subject matter has improved.

Update 4 Meghan was never pregnant. Archie is the child of a surrogate. The author really seems to have a thing about parentage - the Queen Mother was illegitimate, the Queen had AI, now Meghan.

I'm having a hard time finishing this. If I hadn't promised, I wouldn't do it. I have an interesting book also about a multi-racial family I want to read, The Secret Life of Bacon Tait, a White Slave Trader Married to a Free Woman of Color.

2022 Reread Review:
I'm rereading the royal gossip books about Harry and Meghan in the order they were released so I can be ready with an informed opinion when Harry's upcoming memoir, 'Spare', is released.

Whew lawd the racist dog whistles in this book😬

I find it hard to believe that Meghan asking directly for what she wanted was more difficult than Princess Margaret's antics or King Charles III notoriously detailed 'demands'?
Here's a couple articles detailing the notorious behaviors of Charles III & Princess Margaret:
https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/...

https://nypost.com/2022/09/13/king-ch...

It seems staff's issue is that Meghan feels herself in an equal position to others in the royal family and household while staff doesn't consider her to be in an equal position to the family and as a result expect her to humbly accept whatever she is given and be grateful for it because just allowing her to join this Illustrious family is apparently worthy of her lifetime appreciation for whatever scraps are thrown her way.

Apparently the act of requesting certain accommodations in specific ways is somehow demanding if you're a divorced WOC who married into the royal family  in a way that Charles's inability to put his own tooth paste on his toothbrush or pick up a towel to dry himself off after bathing is not. Like wtf. This is such a biased and ridiculous view of Meghan and Harry.

The idea that sending emails when she woke up at 5 because she'd worked rather early before joining the royal family and maybe it was a habit is somehow demanding? How? She didn't demand an answer to her early emails just sent them and apparently that was difficult. She has been a home cook for year's, written a multi year's long lifestyle blog which included recipes and cooking tips not to mention lived with a professional chef for a time. If she said she could taste an ingredient she asked to not be used in the cooking in the finished dish, she was in a reasonable position to assert so. I'm sure the cook felt hurt but was Meghan supposed to pretend she didn't recognize something she recognized? Like this is mostly petty nonsense. British folks are weird if that's a requirement to be 'polite'.
I use this example because it's early in the book and incredibly silly. In what weird ass culture is asking directly for what you want considering rude and demanding? Are staff supposed to be mind readers with Royals? I'm utterly confused how this behavior is unacceptable. It honestly sounds like the staff doesn't like Meghan. Which is sometimes how it goes but the staff need to just directly say that instead of pretending like Meghan asking directly for what she wants is somehow a social faux pas and rude to boot.
What utter nonsense🤷🏾‍♀️

The repeated accusations that Meghan is 'woke' is really just dog whistle racism.

Here's a few articles explaining why this is proof of the author's own racism:
https://steady.substack.com/p/blowing...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazi...

In conclusion, this author is racist and this book is complete trash.

Original 2020 Review:
The author passes off previously debunked myths as truths.
For example the perfume in the wedding chapel that Meghan requested was also requested by Kate and Eugenie.
In fact spraying down the musty church before a major event is somewhat standard and wasn't invented by Meghan.
The Dawn commercial shit is weirdly handled. Meghan was interviewed at the time of the letter writing by a local news station, the footage is on YouTube. She says they never responded but the commercial was changed. It's clearly not a story she made up or exaggerated, as footage of the interview still exists.
The author pretends that the royal family wanted Meghan precisely because she was 'mixed race', which is doubtful and was proved untrue by her racist treatment.
The author insists that racism doesn't exist in Britain, lol. The country of Brexit doesn't have racism?
The idea that a biracial or POC child in the USA never suffered racism is wildly preposterous. The author says Meghan can't 'prove' her racist experiences, so they didn't happen. This is a really common white supremacist narrative. It's not just the racist act that must be proven, it must also be proven that racist act was malicious. This is bolstered by the racist idea that Black people are not able to accurately and reliably judge their own treatment in society; therefore, acts, experiences, etc can only be deemed 'racist' if in fact white folks deem it so. This idea by itself is both dated and horribly racist.
This book is just chock full of the authors own internal racism and feelings of white supremacy. It's boring and ridiculous as well as tiresome as fuck.
The treatment of Meghan's clearly media hungry, aggressive and messy white relatives as if they are 100% honest is mind boggling. Thomas Markle has been caught in blatant lies. I don't doubt he loves his daughter but he's behaving horribly as are her other white relatives.
Also the author keeps eluding to the fact that Meghan's Black family is as put out and upset about her marriage as her white family only the press never interviewed them because they didn't want to be accused of racism.
Clearly the author is unaware that Black publications exist worldwide but quite strongly in the USA. I also assume Britain has Black press. Had there been something to report they'd have surely done so. As plenty of Black publications exist and report on Black as well as other folks and generally aren't accused of racism🙄
She maintains that Meghan was coddled and cherished but given the behavior of her father and sister I doubt that. Given how her entire white/Markle family has acted it's easy to understand why she stopped having them as a part of her everyday life.
The idea that Harry is acting out of jealousy of Wills was debunked when it came out that the staff leaking nasty tidbits to the press about the Sussexes worked for Kate & Wills. So the jealous person is clearly William here. He acted from his jealousy and it backfired and blew up in his face.
The author is strangely fixated on this idea that Meghan is/was a left wing activist.
Meghan's politics are liberal.
Left wing is considerably more radical than any public stance she's ever taken.
Contrary to conservative beliefs, feminism isn't radical or left wing. Actual folks who identify as conservative feminists exist. Dear fucking gawds.
The author also quotes other 'Black' sources who go unnamed other than that they are West Indian or Nigerian Black, etc. Meghan is from the US so it's not reasonable to expect Black women from other parts of the world to understand her when they don't share culture. This is as ridiculous as expecting white French folks to behave like white Norwegians since they're all white.
The idea that Archie was carried by a surrogate is bizarre and also who gives a fuck.
There's really nothing here that you haven't already read in a tabloid or seen some red faced white Brit expounding and pontificating on in a YouTube clip.
The author blatantly fails to include anything that doesn't fit her narrative whether it happened or not.
She's determined that the British press aren't racist and so she ignores the blatantly racist articles published about Meghan, skipping over them calling a LA, Compton, ghetto, etc. It was offensive and racist. That's why Harry rightfully released a statement addressing this coverage and Wills never released such s statement because his wife is white and so it doesn't apply. However the author entirely leaves out the blatant racism making it seem Harry overreacted. She should make her points using the actual facts.🤷🏽‍♀️
This was fun to read but the authors own racism and bias prevent any real conclusions from being reached.

"Lady" Colin Campbell is a fraud and fantasist hoping once again to dupe gullible royal followers into believing she is the connected expert.

Campbell is neither Royal nor informed: the real and continuing story is how Campbell continues to make money trading on her 9-month marriage to a peer, using a title that is not relevant to her position in life since her divorce 46 years ago.

This book is a hot mess.

Here are some of the "Facts" author "Lady" Colin Campbell presents:

1. Meghan Markle only became Black after she met Harry.
2. Meghan only married Harry so she can become President of the United States
3. Meghan faked her pregnancy and Harry may or may not be the father
4. Meghan is a sociopath
5. Harry isnt smart because he didn't do well in school and because he enjoyed military life
6.Harry is pussy whipped
7. Meghan is a "WOKE" activist
8. Meghan's mother doesnt love her
9. Americans are unsophisticated and dumb
10. Average British people respect authority and know their place
11. Racism doesn't exist in Britain
12. Sexism doesn't exist in Britain
13. Princess Diana was ugly and stupid
14. Did I already say Americans are dumb?
15. British people LOVE AND RESPECT Donald Trump

I knew pretty early on that this was going to be a hate read. If I read one more time how Meghan didn't "look Black" I was gonna lose it.

Also is Tony Blair the most hated man in Britain like the author makes it sound?

Do British people OVERWHELMINGLY support Brexit?

And Piers Morgan is the greatest right?

If you can't tell the author "Lady" Colin Campbell has a political viewpoint, eventhough she repeatedly states that she stays out of politics. THE BITCH IS LYING!

I dont mind reading book from different political viewpoint then me, just be honest about it.

This book is why I am so happy Meghan and Harry fled that family and that country. God, this book was filled with toxicity. Colin Campbell is weirdly obsessed with Meghan and Harry's sex life. At least 6x she mentions that Meghan MUST be incredible in bed. It was so weird and gross.

Several times the author tries to insult Americans but actually ends up insulting British people.

I don't know any British people but I assume they dont consider the royal family to be intellectually equipped to handle things or more deserving of wealth then the average person. It's just an assumption but I think I'm on solid ground. I also assume that British people dont just trust that their politicians have their best interests in mind. Maybe that's true but I highly doubt it.

Overall any book that uses the word "WOKE" is a nope for me. I'm a Black woman living in Kentucky and the only time I've heard the word "WOKE" used is when some white person said it.

"WOKE" isnt a thing and neither is "CANCEL CULTURE".

If you love Piers Morgan than you'll love this book.

For everyone else just skip it.

Great read, I can highly recommend it. One saying says ‘wisdom is proved righteous by all its children’ and while reading this, you see that this book definitely is not a trashing of Meghan Markle but - as stated - the true version of what happened. And you can verify what has been said. (Meghan has a history of cutting people out of her life and leaving them behind - need I say more?) But what this book showed, is that the British Royal Family wanted her to succeed. Even the writer Lady Colin Campbell did, and it shows in the many times she spoke kindly of her. So also mostly every time came up with excuses for MM to explain why MM might have acted a certain way.
In the end it comes down to this: H + M are so convinced of their own truth and self-image, that they don’t seem to understand that they muck things up themselves. And not because they weren’t supported by the royal family or the people around them - even the media.

The writer has a thorough knowledge of British upper class and society and explains the hows and whys. She often explains why a particular occurrence wasn’t the wise thing to do, or why people were offended. She also offers background information on the way things are done in Britain and why.

“Meghan was used to a structure on the Suits set whereby she could interact with the producers, directors, and script writers. Prior to that show, she had had very little luck in influencing anyone to expand her role, but, by her own account, on it she had had so much success that she had got them to tone down the sex scenes and build her character up into something even more potent than the powerhouse they had originally envisaged Rachel Zane as being. Royalty has a different structure. The courtiers organise and advise. The royals perform, but do so within well-defined boundaries. Royalty is an ensemble act. Each player exists to enhance the Crown. The monarch is the chief player. The importance of each player thereafter is determined by their proximity to the throne. After the monarch comes the immediate heir. After him comes the next heir in line, and so on down the scales of precedence. If you are the sixth dancer in the chorus line and you are supposed to kick after number five and before number seven, you screw up the whole routine if you do so out of time. In royal families as in Broadway shows, each player needs to know his or her place. If you break ranks, you are damaging the show. You are especially destructive if you break ranks in such a way that you make it clear to the audience that you are a better player than all the other members of the ensemble. In doing so, you are not only boosting yourself at the expense of the whole show, but you are also showing up the other players adversely. Since the whole purpose of a royal family is to represent its nation as a whole, there is only ever one game in town for each royal family. An undisciplined and destructive ensemble player who breaks rank will therefore ultimately be nothing but a force for destructiveness where the royal family is concerned. And the idea of setting up your own dance routine, separate from the one everyone expects to see, was so beyond all comprehension that no one conjured it up as a possibility. With the exception of Meghan, who plainly had contemplated just such an eventuality, for why else would she have failed to disband her Hollywood team when she got married?”

It is a well balanced story by people close to the BRF. The sources are not disgruntled staff members. Lady C also often gives MM the benefit of the doubt and it is obvious she was rooting for her to succeed. It is not a malicious book at all but a well written book by someone who clearly knows how British society work, how the media works and even knows what it is to be in the public eye. There are some surprising elements, like behind-the-scenes of the British press, and the one reason MM was considered an asset for the RF.

If you doubt lady Colin’s story, don’t forget that she was the one that was 100% right when she wrote her book about Diana. This is not a random person who wanted to make money but one that was rooting for MM to succeed, who knows many of the inner circle in the Royal Family or the people around them, and in my opinion gave a fair statement on the doings of Harry and Meghan Markle.

Living in England meant too much media interest in their lives so they moved to a quiet place that nobody had heard of..Los Angeles.
They deplore pollution and mans destruction of the planet so they fly in private jets and drive gas guzzlers.
They don't want to be part of the Royal Family yet they take their money and use their titles.
To put it mildly they are a fascinating couple .
I found this book enjoyable and informative.

Gossipy, juicy

I found this an entertaining, absorbing read, with a couple of eye-brow raising revelations. Campbell approaches Meghan Markle as a 'sociopath' and 'narcissist'. The Queen, we are told regards Meghan Markle's demeanour as, ' only a cut above a floozy’s and her conduct has been no better than a strumpet’. All from 'a reliable source, of course.

Meghan and Harry will end up as a tragedy...or the greatest success story of our time.

HOWEVER, there is a lot of filler: dull potted bios and comparisons with Diana and Wallis Simpson, plus a lot of things we already know. The last two chapters are repetitive and seem to have been written to get the word count up. Unnecessary.

Well written and fair

This book is well written, Lady Colin Campbell goes into great depth. The book however, could have gone on less of a tangent about Meghan’s early life and other people who don’t have much relevance.

Definitely worth the read, Lady Colin Campbell gives credit when it is due and criticises when arrogance from Harry and Meghan has been shown. From reading this book I have seen Lady Colin Campbell providing great insight into what went on behind closed doors without coming across as a gossip or come across as attacking them with venom.

One of the best biographies I have read and hope to see more works in the future.

I’m an American who lives in Los Angeles (about 5 miles from where M&H are/were staying) and has a generally favorable view of the British Royal Family. I was charmed by Lady C’s YouTube videos and paid extra for a UK copy to be shipped over ahead of the US release as a guilty pleasure.

It wasn’t worth it - partially because the book, while 400+ pages in length, has a lot of filler and repetition. There is NOTHING noteworthy that hasn’t been reported already, and while I agree that Lady C does seem to occasionally compliment Meghan and Harry for some positive attributes, she writes only approvingly of Donald Trump for some horrifically godforsaken reason. All the while, she constantly (every couple pages - no exaggeration) paints all Americans as blindly and naively fawning over anyone with royal or celebrity associations, no matter how inexplicable and contradictory their behavior.

I speak as someone who grew up amongst cornfields in Illinois and have lived in the middle of Chicago and Los Angeles ever since. Neither demographic cares much about spoiled, ungrateful people with titles they didn’t earn but want to exploit.

Lumping all 40 million Californians together as a homogeneous, single-minded group is baffling, as is mis-characterizing Los Angeles. Referring to this city as “Hollywood” is an instant warning sign that someone’s perspective is skewed at best. Furthermore, Angelenos make it a point NOT to inflate celebrity egos further. I will agree with Lady C's assertion, however, that M&H probably tip off paparazzi like Diana did – and like many celebrities (real or pretend) do. If you see "unauthorized" photos think twice, and claims made about LA (who's paying for protection, areas of town, etc) made by people who don't live here should be taken with a pile of salt.

The suburbs do not count. Nor does Orange County, San Diego, or... OK, I'm getting off track.

This is a country that ditched monarchical influence, never to reinstate it. Lady C would be wise to learn that much of the US sees M&H (and often the BRF as a whole) not as a worthy of awe but often rather a trainwreck (albeit a sometimes stylish one) we’re glad we don’t have to count as our own. And listen, I don’t regard Diana as a saint but putting her aside Hitler’s Goebbels as equally effective propagandists (again, not kidding)?! Jesus.

But hey, kudos to Lady C for making a buck off them. Perhaps she can buy a thesaurus - if you incorporated a drinking game and took a shot at each instance of “vociferously” you’d be dead by chapter nine. And if you've watched any of Lady C's videos she refers to Goebbels a lot too. Hmmm...

Bottom line: I think Meghan and Harry are both pieces of work that probably deserve each other, but if you're looking for a remotely robust narrative about their lives and relationship, this isn't it. And I have no idea if Meghan is actually intending on running for president but the idea made me spit out my coffee when I first heard it.

Hon. No. Just.... no.

Anyone want my copy? 🤣

This is a very fair balanced book about the Sussexes, with a number of surprises.
Like many people in UK, I was pleased to see Prince Harry so happy, and looked forward to his and Meghan's contribution to UK lives. Fast forward to the tour they did to South Africa: they dazzled; they connected; they looked gorgeous. And then this all changed when the 'pity video' was broadcast and newspapers were sued. What could have been a major triumph was overshadowed by 'Poor me' outcries when there were people they had visited who had suffered so much within 1/2 mile. But suffering is all relative isn't it. I am not the only person who was deeply disappointed and let down by this golden couple. LC's book reveals that for months before that tour, The Sussexes had been planning another life and to utilise their star quality.
Having read a number of reviews from other people, I had expected this book to be very critical of Meghan, yet Lady C is very fair: quite rightly noting her beauty, charisma and intelligence, whilst she is far more critical of Harry's role in them leaving the Royal Family.
The book clearly has sources close to the throne, and Lady Campbell gives a very balanced view on the events that have led to the pair leaving the Royal Family.
I suspect this is a more reliable record of events than the forthcoming book that Meghan has contributed to, and reading comments from the Times readers online, I am not the only person who believes it is best they are no longer in the Royal Family. I wish them both the best of luck in their lives in USA.
Finally, don't be swayed by the very negative reviews of this book; we all have heroes and understanding who they are by a balanced, unbiased writer adds to the debate about this time in our history.

Probably the most interesting book on the Royal family that I’ve ever read

An astonishing and well written take on Meghan (and sometimes Harry). The author is surprisingly balanced in her description of Meghan’s character, even generous at times, but there’s no escaping the conclusion that Meghan is a selfish, disloyal, and exceedingly ambitious individual.

Meghan and Harry, The Real Story, is supposed to be the true story of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan's decision to step back from royal life, written by Lady Colin Campbell. Instead it is a very one-sided, unbalanced biography which constantly snipes at both the Prince and his late mother Diana.

The opposite of "Finding Freedom," which is also unbalanced and tries to paint the couple as completely innocent victims, "The Real Story," staunchly defends the rest of the royal family, putting the blame for everything on Harry and Meghan. I think the real answer lies somewhere in between the two books.

The thing that irked me the most was the author's continual digs at the late Princess Diana, and how she tries to blame Diana for some of Harry's actions, even though she died 23 years ago. The author constantly also insults the intelligence of both Diana and Harry, essentially, though not specifically, calling them both idiots.

The one thing that rang true for me was the author's contention that Meghan was trying to commercialize and make money off of their names and the Meghan and Harry brand from the very beginning. The author contends that when Meghan found herself essentially blocked from profiting off of their royal status, that is when she decided to leave. I find that to be plausible, especially since the couple recently signed a $150 million deal with Netflix as producers. To me, this essentially means that the actual producers use the names of the royals to gain attention for their products. I do think there is some truth to that claim.

To put it succinctly: this is one short step away from being Daily Mail fan-fiction.

It's important to know that Lady Colin Campbell has never personally met Meghan Markle. Yet she was able to manufacture around 400 pages of material to suit her narrative of Meghan being a money-hungry Hollywood whore and of Harry as a weak-willed puppydog and as "Mommy's baby boy." This is all based on hearsay and her own personal experience of being a 'royal insider.'

P.S What does it take to be considered a 'royal insider'? If it's just being able to spout bullshit about whichever royal we're shitting on, I'd like to nominate myself. I am very good at writing fanfic.

P.P.S Halfway through this, I started referring to the author as Lady Cunty Campbell. It seemed fitting. Anyway, here's a fun clip of the author's to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNj4....
Congratulations! You receive an automatic subscription to the Daily Mail if you're able to stomach it.

A collection of sleazy tabloid like stories told by a quasi aristo (Lord Colin Campbell dumped Lady Colin Campbell in 1975). The book wastes more than half its pages on namedropping and lists of other aristos who spilled the beans to "Lady" Campbell. And if she's not namedropping she uses reams of pop psychology to analyse Meghan and/or Harry.

I stopped reading this drivel halfway through the book, for fear of constantly laughing out loud at the ridiculous utterings of this immense snob, The Lady Colin Campbell.

This is one of most honest books I have read in regards to the Royal family to gives us an insight into what really happened with Harry and his wife the truth of Diana and how she behaved not the fairy story the press seems to love to write about what went on behind closed doors at the palace. Well written and I give it top marks for the truth.

First, I've never really followed the royal family, but it's hard to look away from a train wreck. With that said, this book was truly well-written and a real page turner. The author was able to seamlessly flow topics from history, geography, and culture that centered around the royal family and this controversial duo. As an American, it was very interesting to learn more about the monarchy as an institution and its history. Americans don't have an inward concept of a monarchy as we are far removed from it and American schools are naturally more focused on American history than British history. Lady Colin Campbell also showed a great depth of vocabulary without coming off as pretentious or trying to ruffle her own feathers. I'm definitely interested in reading her other books now that I've read this one.

Fair

I think lady Colin Campbell has done an excellent job here. In my opinion she has been very fair to harry and meghan giving the pros and cons of the situations that happened in the uk and overseas. She has not shirked from calling them out when she feels they needed it. It's a good read

Review of the sample. (I downloaded the sample out of curiosity)

Having read just a few pages of this I am only too thankful that I didn't actually part with any money.

Forget the subject matter - this review is based PURELY on the actual writing which was blowsy, dull, tedious, painful and quite simply dreadful.

I suppose if you are rabidly interested in the doings of the two people involved, then you might find some of it entertaining, but for me it was like reading one of those trashy women's magazines full of unfounded gossip and what people were wearing. I could not even get to the end of the sample.

Did anyone actually edit this?

I would recommend this book as a well researched publication. Lady Colin Campbell provides a real insight into the two main characters, namely Harry and Meghan

Just started but excellent so far!

Couldn't wait for this to be released. Never mind This Morning referring to it as gossip, history is fundamentally gossip!

This book felt rushed and unedited. It was quite repetitive and mentioned the same anecdotes several times. It felt like a master class in how to say the same thing in 12 different ways.

Not much new was presented here, and this book will do nothing to change anyone’s opinion of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Nothing new offered in this book! Full of daily mail and online troll conspiracy theories! I guess everyone have to write a book!

This had some random yet informative gems hiding in the chapters. The author attempted to allow the reader to become comfortable with an easy, facetiouslyfeeling discussed about almost EVERY.SINGLE.TOPIC we are STILL dealing with today, which just goes to show that the English royal family, working or others, is stagnant and afraid of angering Meghan, the off balance, attention seeking liar who I truly do blame for Harry’s predicament. He practically has PTSD with zero treatment of any kind over his mother’s death. Meghan is manipulative yet oh so smart almost streetwise.that’s all I’m going to say about this lackadaisical, exploitative, unfaithful, and disgusting situation and yes I say situation because I see no way how a marriage that is hyperfocused on making money, twisting the truth, and desiring to bring the royal house down with a bang can care about love and respect.

I have read all Lady C’s books and was looking forward to this one but I have to say it was a complete YAWN from the beginning, with very few exceptions. I found myself skipping pages, something I never do, but it was pages upon pages of Lady C’ lecturing on royal and palace protocol. As I am never likely to need any of this and have no need to know it in minutee, it was the most boring book , in my opinion , I have read. No wonder Meghan wanted to get out of the system . It’s completely bogged down with none sense and suffocating dos and fonts. Of course there has to be boundaries and a system in place but lady C’s endless and repetitive description was truly unbearable. Wish I’d ordered a sample before buying.

I think you have to approach this book for what it is- gossipy trash, that is told from one person’s perspective. Is there a grain of truth- probably. There is quite a bit of preachiness about the superiority of the British press over the American press and how much America just loves Meghan, which isn’t true. There’s also a lot of explanation and defense of British aristocracy and their traditions, which shows just how out of touch and snobbish the author is, which is not surprising. If you want a mindless, gossipy book, this is it. If you want facts and truth, you will be hard pressed to discern them.

I must admit that the most enjoyable part of the book was reading the negative reviews. When I pick up a book about a famous person or a couple, I simply want to learn more about them. The authors opinions and views are not at all interesting. Usually the person writing these kinds of books aren't very close to the people themselves. But maybe it's to hard of an expectation to have. Didn't at all enjoy Lady Colin Campbell views or writing at all. I would highly recommend reading the reviews instead of reading this as I felt that I didn't get any new info or understanding of the couple. Just the authors views and opinions

It’s hard to believe I was reading the same book as some reviews I have read. I thought it was fairly well balanced and unbiased. Though you could clearly tell there was history with Dianna. It painted a good picture of both parties, their strengths and gave a clear understanding of how and why there were issues. I was impressed by both characters who they are and how well they have done in life in many areas. While pride is good and essential for success being humble is also important. No one is perfect we are all learning.
