Paleontologist Grant Coleman gets an invitation he can’t decline. Join a rescue mission to find his college mentor, Professor Maxwell Carson, who has gone missing in the wilds of China. But his professor’s notes about his expedition must be wrong. They state that he was hunting for the fossils of dragons.

The others on this rescue team make Grant uneasy. One is Mike Rabon, an old college friend who studied with Grant under Carson. But while Grant pursued an academic career, Mike has been working the black market, selling fossils to unscrupulous collectors. Then there’s the mysterious expedition leader, Laoxin Chou, who has brought her own team of thugs and seems to be hiding a secret agenda. To make matters worse, when they land, Grant discovers that none of them are even legally in China.

The search for Professor Carson takes them from windswept deserts to silvan mountains and a village outside what the locals call the Forest of Fire. And along the way, clues all point to the same conclusion: dragons still roam these timberlands of China.

Subterfuge and double-crosses abound as the expedition tries to stay ahead of government forces and escape the creatures that inhabit the mountain. Are the ancient legends of fire-breathing dragons true? Will Grant be able to defy the odds and survive the Forest of Fire?

In the manner of Indiana Jones, Professor Grant Coleman really should no better than to venture outside of his comfortable, safe, university. It always ends in him nearly losing his life, being attacked by prehistoric creatures and, to cap it all, never being able to tell anyone what rally happened. Forest of Fire is the latest in this brilliant set of suspenseful adventures by talented and diverse author Russell James. Grant Coleman is a great protagonist with the perfect blend of healthy fear and instinct for self-preservation tempered with a sense of humour that probably serves to keep him sane in the light of his fantastic escapades. This time, he is charged with searching for his missing mentor who has disappeared somewhere in China while on a field mission at the age of 71. The old professor was onto an amazing discovery - and he isn't the only one interested in the creatures that inhabit this inhospitable terrain. Thoroughly enjoyed my latest trip into the jungle with Prof. Coleman and am eagerly awaiting the next.

This was ALMOST perfect, only for the fact that someone died at the end, bcs of stupid drama, but ok.

The whole book was otherwise VERY great. A creature feature in China? Nice. Also it looked like the author did a tiny bit of research for places and names for china, which realy fitted VERY well. The whole adventure was also very great and full of action and gore.

The part, that made it 4 stars (like part 2...) is Grant and his old lab colleague Mike, who had the perfect banter chemistry. You would say bromance, i would say pairing, but well. It was so funny - they both were so full of sarcasm, it was so fun to read.
ALSO great was, that the chinese soldier was female AND evil. God u don't get enough really evil woman, who are just evil bcs they are egoistic, and Laoxin was exactly that. She was great!

Dragon fire

Poor Grant Coleman keeps getting himself into these life threatening adventures. Not very good for him but good for us. I didn't like this book as good as the last one, but still a good read. I got to tell you this author has a great imagination. I think there is one more adventure for Dr Grant Coleman but will look at authors other books. Good read. If you like Dragons you will enjoy this book.

A fun and quick paced adventure book. He was asked on a mission in hopes to find a very dear friend alive. He ended up learning that once again there are more alive creatures that are well hidden and for a good cause.

What a goofball

Once again Grant Coleman is off on another adventure. This time he travels to China supposedly it is a rescue mission to find his college mentor. But when he gets to China he finds it is a hunt for dragons. You know those mythical creatures that fly and shoot flames out of their mouths. The books in the series are not scary, but they do have plenty of action in them. I like that the hero is not some superman type just your average guy, who has to fight for his life. I laugh every time he says well I'm not read yet. So if you want to have fun reading about fighting giant, mythical creatures then try the Grant Coleman adventures.

When I ran child I started reading stories about dragons and wondered if they were just dinosaurs with wings! Now I wonder if dinosaurs are dragons who lost their wings!

He s still inept and out of shape and still disgustingly lucky. I just wish he would be given intelligence and foresight

Reign of fire in China

Grant Coleman begins his latest adventure in search of his missing mentor in China. The quick and easy trip Coleman thinks he's on goes awry and once again he must fight to survive. I do enjoy these books not only for the fantastic creatures but for the facts they are based on. On to the next adventure!

This poor guy, Grant Coleman. You gotta love him. He's not perfect, but keeps getting involved with these intense adventures. This one has him battling dragons, which I must say sounds a tad dangerous. Exciting to watch him go through one of his adventures once again.

Dr Grant just stay home

I think this guy needs to learn to just stay home and play some virtual reality games lol. He’s always so lucky but not at the same time. I was entertained and didn’t really want to put it down while I was into it.

Once again, despite only 130 pages long, I really connected with the story and new characters. This one begins with a reasonably plausible scenery. Help find an old friend missing on a dig. Even after his recent run ins with "monsters" this request does not seem to be to out there. However, things begin to go off the rails and Grant is once again in the thick of it. Looking forward to the next book.

Mr. Coleman, lay off of the cheeseburgers

I enjoyed Forest of Fire very much and Grant Coleman is becoming one of my favorite action hero protagonists. He is an every man, he isn't a special forces or secret killer, he is an out of shape college professor that's gets into and out of things that are way over his head. I can't wait for the next one!

Forest of Fire is the fourth Grant Coleman book by Russell James and it's another winner. This time, anthropologist professor/hesitant adventurer is lured into hunting for a missing colleague only to come face-to-face with fire-breathing...well, um, read the book. Needless to say, James blows my mind by continually upping the game and throwing his hapless hero into one unbelievable (but totally plausible) hair-raising, heart-pounding cliffhanger after another. Always exciting, always an easy-breezy read, all Grant Coleman books are highly recommended and manage to out-do the excitement of the Indiana Jones film series. Seriously!
