Sundance #2.5

Earp & Chandra

Rate this book
Family can be found in the most unexpected places.

Gila monster shifter Jedidiah Earp is over seventy, prefers to bite first and ask questions later, and he knows the desert scrub outside Sundance, California like the back of his claws.

Alpha hyena shifter Chandra Smith is in her late twenties, protective to a fault, and she knows how to hunt down enemies and make them disappear.

When the cantankerous lizard and the deadly ex-assassin team up to hunt down poachers in their territory, they find more than a couple of paranormal traffickers. They discover a kinship with each other that turns into friendship as they learn that family sometimes shows up where you least expect it.

EARP & CHANDRA is a standalone novella, but will likely be best enjoyed by readers of the romantic urban fantasy Sundance series. Chronologically, this book falls after SUMMONED (Book Two) and before SABOTAGED (Book Three).

Not since Anita and Edward(Anita Blake series) have I like a M/F non romantic partnership so much. This was just fun to read.

A little info-dumpy at the beginning, but I liked seeing things from the perspective of these side characters. The story follows the Blacke pack as they try to protect a couple trying to escape from a bad alpha. Pretty on-par with the first book as far as writing, pacing, tone, and characterization.

A quick read, but if you liked Spiked, you'll probably enjoy this too.

I adored this little novella. Makes me want to re-read Sundance before the last book in the series Shifted since we got to know Carter and Imogene in this one. I loved the banter with Chandra and Luis and Nelly - but of course Earp too. Heartwarming and fun part of the series.

This was a nice fill in short that adds depth to two of the supporting cast members in the Sundance shifter group: 2nd in command hyena shifter Chandra and Gila monster shifter Earp. These guys are prickly on the surface but are becoming favorites of mine - I liked their friendship and their back stories.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

I enjoyed seeing this world from Chandra and Earp's POVs.

I did read this, as part of the Sundance series, but don't feel that you need to do so, to be able to fully get into the book.

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

“Earp and Chandra” is a sweet little novella giving fans of the Sundance series insight into how two misfits find a close and endearing friendship and that’s says a lot when you consider just how guarded Chandra and Earp are.

This time Earp and Chandra are on patrol and the hunt for poachers after Neely. They are not disappointed with the two ridiculously inept criminals they find. No sooner that they dispose of their prey, they stumble upon a Wolf shifter and his pregnant mate. They are on the run from their tyrannical Alpha and she is about ready to deliver.

The Blacke pack is not about to allow these two wolves to be hunted down and taken; so, they do
what they always do, ban together and fight. When Earp is taken hostage by the Alpha, Dottie is nonplussed.

This 95 page read was a lot fun. There were so many humorous and tender moments as well as plenty of action. It makes me yearn for the next book in the series to be released. Oh well, good things come to those who wait.

‘Earp & Chandra’ is book a novella in C.P. Rider’s The Sundance series, best read between book two ‘Summoned’ and book three ‘Sabotaged’. Told by Chandra and Earp’s povs.

A quick little read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, getting inside the bada**, scary, loyal, slightly unhinged second Alpha hyena was fantastic.

I have had a slight girl crush on her from the very beginning and this book has made it a full blown crush. Chandra is damaged from a past relationship that she hasn’t gotten over, but with the help of Earp the introvert Gila Monster, Alpha Leader Lucas and Telepath-Spiker Neely she is able to slowly repair her heartache.

Earps pov’s was just as enjoyable and great to read, he is another misunderstood character that deserves his own story told.

A great in between read from Neely’s POV. I loved every moment of these two characters.

This is a short story (97 pages) that features Chandra, the second in command of the Blacke group, and Earl, a beta Gila Monster shifter.
Starting out with the two of them on patrol and taking care of a couple of inept poachers, they come across a wolf shifter couple escaping from their old pack. The female is extremely close to giving birth.
Taking the couple back to Lucas’s house, Neely decides they must stay and have the child there.
Unfortunately, the alpha they are escaping from comes calling.
This book has a lot of Earl’s background, as well learning about his new girlfriend, one of the witches. It also gives a bit more about Chandra’s background.
This book has some action, surprises, and humour.
A great story to fill in some blanks.

Short and sweet.

A nice look at the relationship of Lucas and Neely through Chandra and Earp (two of my favourite side characters). Liked how it flowed, and only quibble l have is that it didn’t set up the tension in Lucas and Neely’s relationship that we encounter in the third book. That said, I’m not sure how much time elapses between this book and the next one. Still, I loved reading this.

Great novella

Earp has been one of my favourite characters since the beginning so more of him is always a good thing. He and Dottie are just so cute. I've never bonded with Chandra. I don't dislike her I just don't get warm fuzzies with her. At the heart of the book are the fabulous Neely and Lucas. So to book 3 I go. Keep them coming as I love them.

Super cute side story

This story is about 2 side characters in the Sundance series. It's best to read the other books first, or you won't fully appreciate this deeper glance at Chandra and Earp. Well edited, this is a very enjoyable story. Hopefully the author does something else like this again in the future so we continue to spend time with these characters

This one sitting short offers a bit of background on fan favorites gila monster Jedidiah Earp and enforcer hyena Chandra Smith partnering on an assignment to stop poachers from entering town to attack Neely. What they find instead is a couple about to have a pup on the run from an overbearing alpha.

Great insight into two vibrant and vital characters in the Sundance world. This is a fab series, and I can’t wait to read more about other members in the Blacke group. Maybe King and Amir next? Hint hint...

Lots of fun!

This is a great story about the sub-characters of the Sundance series. New babies, alpha fights, new understandings with old friends: what more can one want in a story! Highly recommended.

Good story

I enjoyed the novella about Chandra and Earp. Earp is one of my favorite side characters so it was nice to get some additional details. Four stars not five because I wanted more.

Lovely addition to the Sundance world

I absolutely love this series, I can't believe it took me so long to read this novella. Gaining a little look in on some of my favourite characters (and one who is definitely not!)

Eh. It was cute but the short page count and the unfamiliar viewpoints mean that it tipped from cute to schmaltzy real quick. We get it, family is what (and who) you make it, etc., but it felt pretty hammered in by the end.
