Be: A No-Bullsh*t Guide to Increasing Your Self Worth and Net Worth by Simply Being Yourself

Rate this book
Build your confidence, increase your value, and make a lasting impact―a brand authenticity expert shares her most powerful secrets.

Everyone in marketing is talking “authenticity.” Which means making a personal or professional brand should be simpler than ever, right? What could be easier than “being yourself?”

Simple? Sure. But easy? Not so much.

Why? Because authenticity is unfiltered, unapologetic, and honest. Authenticity owns its imperfections and takes responsibility for mistakes. It shows up on the good and bad days. In short, authenticity feels scary. No wonder we try to brand ourselves as someone else we think will be more appealing than our real selves.

Jessica Zweig founded the SimplyBe. agency to revolutionize an authenticity-first approach to branding. With A No-Bullsh*t Guide to Increasing Your Self Worth and Net Worth by Simply Being Yourself , she shares her most powerful secrets for building authenticity, service, and real connection into your winning brand. “I’m opening up the freakin’ vault to SimplyBe.’s best-in-class, trademarked methodologies, tools, and frameworks for clearing away everything that’s keeping the real you from shining through,” she says,

• Branding Reinvented―Forget the hacks and tricks, it’s time to learn what personal branding is really about.
• Embracing Your Sh*t―All that stuff you think you need to hide? That’s actually your most important resource!
• Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe―Learn to magnetize the people who most want to support you (and they’re out there).
• Your Personal Brand Hologram®―SimplyBe.’s universal framework can crystallize your utterly unique brand platform.
• The Supernova™―Create winning content with the secret sauce of consistency and clarity.
• The Pinnacle Content Framework™―Take the stress out of strategy and find the most direct, effective path toward your goals.
• Getting Social Media Right―Stop chasing trends and learn the 10 sustainable, evergreen principles for online connection.
• Living Your Brand―Take your authentic personal brand where it matters offline and into your relationships, your workplace, and the way you show up in the world.

“We are living at an inflection point,” says Jessica Zweig. “For any brand―business or personal―the game is no longer about eyeballs, but engagement. No longer about impressions, but impact. Content is no longer king, clarity is. Your best strategy? Service and generosity. Your best solution? Authenticity.” Here is a powerful guide for connecting with others, changing lives, and moving the world forward as only you can.

I did not connect with Jessica Zweig's story in Be. at all. The principles and information in this book was nothing new. I much rather read from authors who come from a place of self discovery, and not constantly reminding me throughout the book how incredible their business success has become and leaving little advice on how others can get there themselves in simple, practical steps.

I wouldn't recommend this book, but if one sees value in her message; rent it from the library.

This book was suggested by my office manager to help agents become thought-leaders, especially on social media. The first two sections of the book sort of deal with this, but I found the author's exercises to be confusing and I didn't see the overlap between pillars, holograms, super-novas, and Orion's roadmap. I just didn't get it. There were a few exercises I thought were worthwhile - asking several friends and clients to give you five one-word descriptions of how they see you and then trying to use any overlaps in the words to structure (or change) your personal branding. I found the last section of the book, the most helpful in finding your true self and using that in your personal branding.

As someone trying to find their voice as a solopreneur in progress, this gave me a great launch pad for thinking about how I can combine my values, skills, and then turn that into my brand message. Loved that exercises were built in to the content and that the focus was about sharing authentically and letting that be your superpower!

I was skeptical going into the book as I specially started it to see if the book really does what it says on the cover.

I was half right. While there were some inspiring moments and interesting exercises, and I truly admire Jessica’s grit, I couldn’t fully understand the value of this book.

It feels like one long blog post or e-book. It might have even started that way.

Like she said, you’re not for everyone. So I guess this isn’t for me!

There are only two reasons to rate this book 3 stars or fewer in my opinion: the first is that you already have an MBA or doctorate in business, so the plain and understandable language of the writer is substandard to your exceptional knowledge of the topic; the second is that you read the book without actually performing any of the suggested activities.
It took me an unusually long time to read this short but pithy little book—and I’m a slow reader by nature; I like absorbing every word, especially when I’m enjoying or getting something meaningful from them. And this is a book I got plenty of meaningful insight from. Mostly, because I did the work. The chapters of the beginning half of the book offer building blocks to help you figure out your personal brand (read: values, if you’re not actively in the process of starting a business or transforming your relationship to your workplace). The activities are really more like templates to help you figure out your own take on the topics, so sometimes, I would consider and sit with each one for days at a time until I was ready to put pen to paper and move on to the work in the next chapter.
I found the process incredibly helpful, as a want-to-be entrepreneur with no formal business background. Not only did it help me align my personal values with the professional missions I want a potential business to accomplish, it helped me learn to create a never-ending stream of content and publicity that will always be on-brand, and it helped me write my professional bio and business description. So I came a long way toward a workable business plan and marketing strategy by the end of the book.
As the subtitle hints, this book is about more than just branding. It’s part branding strategy and part self-help, motivational guide. The author’s idea is that our businesses or jobs can be more meaningful, productive, and successful the more we can incorporate our true selves into them. I think that’s a message that might resonate with many women in particular. If your ultimate professional goal is to make a life and not just a living, this is a title worth thumbing through.

There were plenty of myths I needed to dispel as I was reading a book about personal branding. I’m not fit, tan, buff, perfect hair and teeth to “make it” on social media or become an influencer. I have like 2 followers. I was so wrong about the message Jessica wrote in this book. It’s about finding your clarity, values and authenticity. Building your brand starts from within.

Obviously, this book is a goldmine for entrepreneurs in life coaching, self-development, and businesses related to these. It can also work for the traditional business where you want to sell a manufactured, tangible product. But, in reality, it’s made for people who have a message that want to educate or help people.

This book, combined with my previous recommendation on “Calmfidence,” would be the perfect graduation present. Both books arm you with tools to take on the world to create lasting change.

And this book, is also for people like me. Who don’t have a passion to grow a business or a goal to sell something of value to people. I don’t care about being recognized. However, reading this book provided me with clarity and focus on considering what values mean to me and how I want to show up for myself everyday. It’s a road map to finding your authenticity, in whichever way you define it. I think, ultimately, that’s why Sounds True published Be. because of its unique, self-help, spiritual vision and the way of building a personal brand.

It’s worth a read! 🤗

This book was "just" okay.

There was not anything that took me for groundbreaking new information. Honestly, you can't be anyone but yourself at anyone time. You can pretend sometimes, but mostly the natural state will take over. People will see who you are regardless.

This book points out to be just you, but funnily enough it tells you that you must dress nicely and look your best. That you might have to change you attitude, et cetera. Well, that simply doesn't play well with the title does it? I judge books by what they state in their synopsis and what the book finally sells within the cover. If they don't match, then it's a lie. And one thing I dislike is being duped with a statement and then selling pages of content with a different message.

For this reason the 3 stars are supported. The author is beautiful and has accomplished a lot. But if she was really herself would she be in the state that she's in? I don't think so. She works to hard on the exterior and her representation to be "herself." She's a product of something that she created, but she's not herself.

I connected with Jessica on Instagram last year and instantly felt such amazing energy and warmth not jut with her personality but her writing. This is such a refreshing book and can be used both professionally and personally. Branding goes beyond the office or as an entrepreneur. It goes into being an authentic human. I’ve been disconnected from my career and self this last year with the pandemic and being “on” as a mom and homeschooler. Now that my daughter will be getting back to some normalcy with camps this summer and then full time school in the fall, this book was perfect for me to reset and reevaluate my branding with not only my business but myself as a human. The writing was strong, easy to read and hard to put down. Lots of notes, highlights, dog ears and I actually did the exercises she has in the book!

What takes years to learn in business and branding Jessica puts in a simple method that cuts through all the bull and gets right to the point. Jessica’s methodology goes deep into what really matters. Her fearless and honest ability to share her own story and all the dirty details help you realize that everyone has struggles or Sh*t as she terms it. This book helps uncover what’s really important in life and business, it goes deeper than the average branding and marketing guides. The methodologies and worksheets, if put into use, are a true vehicle to success. Order a copy and some for your friends, if everyone can resonate at the level Jessica advocates, we will be making brands and the world a better place!

Be is a beautiful business book for entrepreneurs or anyone seeking branding help, or tidbits of inspiration to BE YOURSELF. If you want to be a YouTube star or Instafamous, this is not your book.

There's a misconception about net worth, and it says that in order to have a lot of it, you have to go to a really great college, or be born into it, or have a great resume in order to achieve certain corporate positions, or even be the type of person who just works really, really hard. I believe that's all bullshit.

It is about how to build your brand with integrity. The author provides practical tips on showing up authentically. The more you become willing to show authentically, the more magnetic you become as a person and a professional.

The book takes the pressure off of making you feel judged or feel imposter syndrome when you have a message to share. No one else has your unique upbringing, education, career track, relationships, triumphs, failures, lessons, learnings, and perspectives which provide you with value. There are people out there who need your message and don't even know it yet.

We live in a dang age where being a hustler is glorified and to be self-made is aspirational. We are bombarded with blatant imagery and subliminal messaging that celebrates the ideals of crushing it, slaying it, and killing it. Sounds painful.

To some degree these soundbites are motivational, but if you dig deeper into the true net effect of what the hustle culture is doing to your wellbeing, the stats are staggering and attributed to psychological stress, anxiety, and burnout.

This was insightful and an advocate for personal growth and emphasizing your value.

I heard Jessica as a guest on a podcast I respected and decided to order the book without much research. Once it was on my shelf I started listening to her own podcast and it rubbed me the wrong way. The two episodes I tried to listen to, which by title had topics I would be interested in, had such long monologues of her talking about herself to the point where it crossed the self-centered line (in my opinion). We’re talking what felt like 10-20 minutes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that estimate is actually accurate.

Still, I decided to read the book, and again found little to take away. I do think the frameworks are solid, but not unique, and the rest of the content and stories were mediocre. If you want to read it, get it from the library. I’m all for supporting women entrepreneurs, but this one, ironically, felt really fake (for lack of a better word).

I haven't read a personal development book in a long time. I started my workouts back up and like to read two chapters of a PD book before I workout. I enjoyed this book a lot. Most PD books are all centered around the same themes and they tend to be repetitive and then I get bored or I start to skip chapters because ... who want to read the same thing in every PD book you read. Although, this book had a few of those chapters I felt there was an extra step in that chapter that made you think outside the chapter I loved all the interactive parts to the book. Jessica did a great job of breaking things down, showing you examples, and how to relate yourself or your business to what she is talking about in the chapters. I loved her color scheme an the BE message.

Oh my bookshelf! What did I just read. Firstly huge thanks to the publisher for my ARC ,I am grateful. I enjoyed this book and I found myself bookmarking nonstop because what a WOW. This book is exceptionally written and quite enjoyable ( yep based enjoyed with wine ) and always have your notebook on standby. I thought a brand was only famous people but one can simply be a brand and it's so important you are true to who you are and what you believe in. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to distinguish their business and refine the tone of their brand.

A no-nonsense tactical guide on developing a personal brand. Jessica is a personal branding expert and helps you to understand why you need one and why it matters. I love that she dives into how developing a personal brand is an expression of service instead of ego. As someone who develops perosnal brands for clients, this book has some of the most solid advice on how to do it yourself.

Each one of her tools is presented in a way that makes it easier to understand and achieve the desired result.

A well known leader in my company’s industry sent me this book after we went on a walk and he asked, “what do you want to do?” And I responded, “I don’t really know... I never thought I’d be where I’m at”. For whatever reason, he believed I needed to hear what Jessica Zweig had to say. And did I ever. As someone who struggles with anxiety, not being “enough”, introverted tendencies, and unsure of what I want or where I want to go, this guide was a starting point to investing time into these very topics. Not just for my career, but life moving forward. Thank you, Jessica.

This book contains brilliant branding methodologies that will no doubt make your personal brand shine.

But more than that, it is the story of a woman who stepped into her own power, owned her uniqueness, and leaned into her authenticity. Unapologetically. Jessica Zweig is that woman. And in these pages she will show you how to tap into your self worth and how that directly impacts your net worth.

"Be." is the personal empowerment manifesto that the world needs right now.

This book and this author changed my life. Before meeting Jessica, and reading this book, I never understood what it truly meant to be just be me... and that it was okay to do so! Anyone and everyone who wants to dig deep and understand their true potential NEEDS to read this book. It should be a requirement for anyone looking to better themselves in any aspect of their life. Jessica and her book are true gifts and the world is a better because of them.

Lately I’ve been struggling a lot with imposter syndrome and how I’m going to move forward as a brand (and a human being) in the next year but Be. clarified everythinggggg for me. Whether you’re a business owner or not, you have a lasting impact (or a brand, if you will) and you may not even know it!

With how wonky and weird the world is getting, it’s easy to forget who you are and what you believe about yourself + Be. helped me become a little more clear and get to know myself again.

Awarded one star because the author’s ability to use so many words yet say so little is impressive. If you are the type of person who finds the likes of Tony Robbins or Gary Vee inspirational or you are one of those “hey girls” who likes to spam your old high school friend’s facebook feeds with the latest MLM you were suckered into, then this may be the book for you. Even so, scrolling “motivational quotes” on Pinterest for 5 hours would give you just as much substance.

I commend the idea of writing a book, but there was nothing new or creative about finding or being your authentic self throughly these pages. It felt inauthentic and I actually gave up about 30 pages in. Luckily, I didn’t pay for this book as it was passed to me by a friend who didn’t find it helpful either. Frankly, I didn’t understand the hype.

Build your brand doing what you love

This was a good read. I thought it was well structured and laid out a way of thinking about how to take action to build a personal brand that is true to who you are. While the information can be found elsewhere, it was refined down to a manageable size in this book.

I listened to the audiobook and found Jessica's story to be compelling, vulnerable and vivacious. When it comes to getting PR and building a brand, she clearly knows what she's talking about, and goes about it in a way that is gritty vs. cookie cutter, and has some abstract frameworks for laying out similar information. I enjoyed it!

(2.5?) The frameworks were a good a reminder and helped me think about some things I'm working on, but most of the message actually felt pretty inauthentic.

I shouldn't have read this so close to reading Ali Kreigsman's new book because I loved that one so much and couldn't help but compare them.
