I lived a pretty ordinary life—a kid raised in my family’s bar who went off to college to escape the small-town life. But when my grandfather died and I returned to take over the family business, I discovered a much more extraordinary world waiting for me.
Vampires, werewolves and fae are real.
And they want my baby.
My daughter is meant to fulfill some crazy prophecy related to the end of all magical creatures, but I’m having none of that. Now, since I can’t get rid of them, the three Sexies who walked into my bar that fateful, stormy night, work for me.
They can change diapers and serve drinks while I get a handle on not only being a new single mom, but also the center of a race war between creatures I previously believed were myths.
I didn’t expect any of this. Not the Sexies. Not the single motherhood. And certainly not the chemistry I feel with each of them.
But we don’t have time for raging postpartum hormones. Because they aren’t the only ones after my child, and keeping her safe is proving a more dangerous job than the What to Expect Books ever prepared me for.

Witches, fae, vampires, danger and an ancient prophecy - combined these should have made for one hell of an entertaining read, but this started rather slow and never really picked up momentum.
I liked Bernie's drive and fieriness in protecting her baby daughter, but the worldbuilding and plot didn't weave a intricate and rich image in my mind. I also wanted more wit and energy when it came to the dialogue.
I was expecting so much from this reverse harem read but sadly it wasn't the awesome little gem I was hoping for. I won't be getting/reading book 2 see what happens next.
Like three hot supernatural guys show up right before you give birth on a bar floor- tell you they are there to kidnap your baby because she's the savior of everything- but stay to mix magical drinks behind the bar and do Magic Mike routines for your bar patrons on the reg....and you just say...fuck it?
No one seems fazed by shit, Unicorns are real (and one happens to be your now openly gay ex bf), nymphs are real (and one happens to be your best friend whose husband just got mauled but no one cares) and werewolf hair is apparently great for suturing up your hoo-ha post birth.
I have a weird relationship with this author. I like her books but I never want to read the book 2, I'm just never interested in continuing the series. This is the second series I am having such problem.
I liked Bernie, I liked that the heroine was pregnant. I thought she was too cavalier about her baby sometimes though but yea, good book .
I enjoyed this. It has a very fun premise and characters, and I will be getting the rest of the series.
I did felt that the tone of the writing was a bit inconsistent. Sometimes moments wavered a bit too much between light-hearted and overdramatic. I only learned it was a co-write towards the end, so I assume that explains it. I am not familiar with either author by themselves, so I can’t judge who favored which tone, but I will say that while noticeable, it wasn’t distracting.
The bit I disliked the most has to be the extremely quick sexual tension between the heroine and her men. Given the fact this starts with a birth that required stitches, attended by men who openly wish to steal her child, you’d expect the heroine would take a bit longer than 24 hours to consider banging them. She doesn’t actually go through with it, thankfully, but it doesn’t make the whole “guess the magic fixed my body and libido superfast” any less tacky, when it could have easily waited for the time skip the book had anyway.
Meanwhile, the bit I enjoyed the most had to be the narration. Ada Sinclair absolutely killed it. I enjoyed the writing by itself, but being honest, I’m not sure I would have enjoyed the book half as much if it weren’t for her performance smoothing over details like the inconsistency in writing tone, as well as her additions to the characters. Her A.J. voice was superb, and adorable.
DNF @26%. Maybe I didn’t give this one enough time, but it just seemed so mechanical. “Insert hot guy here” kind of style. It didn’t hook me in at all unfortunately!
"So a were wolf, a vampire, and a fae walk into a bar..." Joe says, his lips pursed in exaggerated performance.
An ancient prophecy puts Bernie's unborn child in danger from beings from otherworlds. A werewolf, vampire and fae end up in her small town bar just as a major snowstorm hit. The three men that she refers to as the Sexies, deliver her baby girl. Each of them wants the child to save their race. And oh by the way, a group of witches wants to stop them all.
This was a very quirky book that took me a bit to get into. The premise is good and the characters were presented in a defined manner. It was all just a bit off for me. We learn that the town is filled with lots of things that go bump in the night. I wondered how this was kept private for so long.
I may continue the series just to see where it leads but I do not have a burning desire to rush out and read the next book.
I want to start out by saying I don't give five-star reviews very often. I am probably pickier than the average reader. I read upwards of three hundred books a year; I need something to really stand out to get that final star. The Last Witch delivered!
I love when authors manage to make an old trope (supernatural species at war for eons) feel new again! The slow-rolling build up is the perfect touch to build this world from scratch all while telling a solid story about a mother's love, a daughter's heartbreak, and a lover's potential.
The narration in this book is absolutely sublime. I never once questioned how the authors portrayed a person or scene, how anything or anyone reacted, nor did I ever wonder what the point was of any moment.
Our heroine, Bernie, is simultaneously hilariously irreverent, painfully broken, and unendingly strong. She has believable, deep relationships in her best friend, her grandmother, even her regular bar patrons.
The love interests, Darius the vampire, Zev the werewolf, and Rune the fae, have obvious back story that makes the reader wonder, but the mystery is never ANNOYING nor does it feel like a missing answer. We get fed enough tidbits to satisfy waiting for more.
The climax was only a bit predictable, but still with enough of a twist to keep it enjoyable. I repeatedly had to stare off into space for a few minutes to get control of whatever emotion I had (anger, sadness, anxiety, you name it).
I'm sorry but this book just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure if I was just in the wrong mood or if it was actually the book, but I found myself cringing (A LOT) and then just hoping that the end would come quickly.
I listened to this on audio and usually don't really have issues with narrators. This narration was done by Ada Sinclair and for some reason, her voice was very grating for me. (Especially during the labor and delivery section) Like I mentioned earlier, maybe it was me - who knows, it might have just been the wrong day or the wrong time.
What specifically drove me crazy? Well, the plot itself started digging itself into holes pretty quickly and never really could get out. Without going into spoilers- this is from the VERY beginning - a pregnant bartender goes into labor at work (which is, of course, a bar) and there just happen to be three strange men who had stayed in the bar after closing who end up helping her give birth. Then to top things off, she hears them arguing over who is going to take and keep her child (HER BRAND NEW BABY DAUGHTER!) and she realizes that they were each there separately to attempt to kidnap her daughter. So, what does she end up doing? Well, asking them to stay with her of course.
Makes perfect sense, right? Oh, and that is after she discovers they are supernatural creatures (which she had no idea existed). Yep, I'm going to invite a strange werewolf, a strange vampire and a strange Fae to stay with us after hearing all of that........
And that is before things got weird....It was honestly just to OTT for me.
This was one of the better RH reads, I binged the last few weeks. There still was a lot, I wanted to better, but it was a nice and easy read, that entertained me and didn’t make me too mad, so a win I guess.
There were two big points, that lessened my reading fun and almost made me click three instead of four stars. First being the behaviour of the heroine, which simply didn’t feel natural at all from the beginning were she is way too calm given the fact that three stranger try to steal her baby to the point, where she just doesn’t ask enough questions, like seriously “Use your brain?” Just a little bit? The second was the well know, all times present reverse harem problem: bad characterization of the men. I spent 75 % of the book wondering which one was which again. The best friend, was a nice addition, as always a love a good female friendship, but honestly her character was also done very inconsistent, it was really hard to get a grip on her.
The pacing was rather slow, not much happens throughout the whole book, but I guess it was the typical first fantasy book in a series. But not as much world and plot building happened, as I would have wanted.
The ending wasn’t too my liking, suddenly the words “love” “forever” and “mate” were thrown around and that was so a punt,, it didn’t feel natural at all - like were does all of this come from? Alle the Deep conversations, they did in secret and the reader wasn’t part of? Come on. Also the special snowflake ending. I was SO I intrigued that she didn’t have any powers and would have to go against way stronger forces only with her wits and her men, that hope crumbled to dust as she went from practically useless, the overpowered monster witch.

This was fun and humorous and sweet and I really enjoyed it. At times it was a bit extra but that was all part of the charm.
I'm not a fan of the pregnancy trope at the end of romances but this was a whole new take. The entire plot revolved around a single mum amd her baby, and you know what, I freaking loved it. It was refreshing for an MC to be focused on someone else so intensely instead of themselves.
I loved the Irish bar and small town community vibe and the way they looked out for their own.
If you're looking for a fun, fast moving, plot driven PNR with a lot of heart, look no further. This one is a great find.
Ok. I seriously liked reading this book! It was unique, cute, heart warming, and quirky! I loved all the characters and their development throughout the book. It was a slow burning RH book. The males were sexy and had their own demons to overcome. FMC rocked! She was awesome, determined, a fierce mama bear, and smart.
I will admit the book seemed a little rushed but it was done in a way that it made sense and wasn’t choppy.
This is proof not to judge a book by its cover while I find the cover atrocious this was really good. A ton of action and a ton going on. Decent world building a little predictable while still throwing twists and turns at you I am really interested to see where this series will go. I will definitely be reading more very funny too!!
Love cant wait til next books out. It was very !!! Constantly though lots of action packed stuff and kinda -not confusing... but over the place so it was a bit intense but still awesome. Im hoping for a slightly more chill or more downtime happy stuff in the second book.
3.5 stars Slow burn paranormal reverse harem romance. 3 sexy paranormal guys walk into a bar. When the bar owner goes into labor. The child is the foreseen prophecy that each of them realms need to survive. The story is a bit much in places but you just have to have a "go with it "vibe. It's fun and entertaining and I can't wait to read the next book.
This book was everything you'd expect from a Karpov Kinrade book! There's great world-building, characters you connect with, strong FMC, deeper themes, and of course - plot twists! I loved this book from start to finish and if this is what KK creates with Evan Gaustad, they need to team up more often. This book captured my heart and made me feel all the feels. I found the book unique and refreshing - especially the idea of a newbie single mom starring in a reverse harem series. I can't wait to see what comes next!
This book is a slow-burn RH with lots of steamy tension. Possibly triggering: FMC's best friend is in an abusive marriage.
Good but I spent a lot of this book yelling at my tablet about stupid baby stealers, uncaring baby stealers, women who needed to stop moving after just having a baby, and who the fuck is watching the damn baby. Also werewolf midwife was serious heebie jeebies.
End was pretty predictable tbh, and I love how the men were pretty useless for the most part. This book suffers a bit from first-book-syndrome the sequel is going alright at 50% but started to lag, don’t know if I’ll ever finish it. So unless you really like the first book you probably won’t go on.
Side note: second biggest wtf moment, after three male supe midwives discuss stealing a baby while mom gives birth on a dirty bar floor, was defs the werewolf/vampire stripper routine.
Second side note: your issues don’t excuse baby napping without consideration for mother or child. And way too much theoretical baby death.
Thirdly: werewolf hair, really?? Ugh, yuck ughughugh just TMI
Not my bag. The tone is a bit too silly and lighthearted to take any of the story seriously. What kind of person chooses to be left alone with three strange men during a dangerous snowstorm while only a week away from giving birth?
Then, too, the heroine's utter lack of panic when she hears the men planning to 'take her baby' was just ludicrous. Most women would climb out the window to get away from men like that, not sit there asking questions and thinking about how hot they are.
Shame as I quite liked the originality of the premise.
From the very first line until the very end of this book, I was hooked. Bernie goes back home to run the family bar and have her baby. Turns out that not everything in her town is quite as it seems. This book has everything you need: mystery, intrigue and a humor lots of humor. I really enjoyed this and I can't wait to see what happens next
The ending pushed it to 3.5 for me. I really think the next will pick up way more with that ending.
Alright let’s star with what I liked.
The plot is really good and is what gave it its stars. I loved AJ our sassy side kick and wanted way more of her. Bernie to me started off between being the weakest link, trying to be a bada$$, and then finally turning into said bada$$, which was very much enjoyable. I enjoyed her as a character and what she stood for. Setting the story was genius as always. To me it was an original plot since I haven’t read anything similar. So of course I’m like ‘F yeah’. It does have some funny and it is a fast read where you don’t feel like it’s dragging, feel the need to skim, or whatever. Huge plus there. I was able to guess the twists in the beginning but that didn’t hinder it in anyway because it didn’t go down exactly how I thought and it sure didn’t end how I thought. Talk about some kicker there!
Now before I start my cons I want to point out that I get this is only the 3rd series KK has started (each with a different co-author) but DQ with Liv Chatman set the bar really high in expectations for me with it being so well rounded in all categories. This is not hate on the authors or co-authors as I’ve never read anything by LC other than DQ. Like I said DQ, for me, came out swinging with it’s instant knock out and the bar got set high. It was just as amazing as all their other books and you couldn’t tell it was their first rodeo.
So let’s begin the cons... My biggest problem with it is again- like in MG- the insta love. Even though we’ve been introduced to the ‘sexies’ I’m having a hard time telling you which guy is which but by maybe appearance/ species pointed out. They all sound the same in dialogue and if not for the dialogue having a name at the end one would think they might be the same person. I get falling for someone for protecting you but another problem arises there. I don’t think I can name one time the ‘sexies’ were able to protect anything and that really bothered me. I get our MC is awesome but dang don’t make the men worthless- that ain’t sexy. I know rh is hard to get down in a first book because you’re trying to lay the foundation of the plot and each chapter is written and passed back an forth. That can change the direction and dynamic of where the characters and book is headed I get it but each harem member needs to be individualized and have a different pull to them not skipped over with a few snippets. I don’t feel the connection or what pulled her to them besides ‘they’ll protect the baby’ and that their looks alone are the driving point. Some of the things said by them really weren’t omg that’s yummy or amazing, it came off more as cheesy and cliche.
I hate even saying that to a kk book. What drove me was all on the plot, Bernie, and AJ. Hopefully the next will be bring all this to the table.
A Werewolf A Vampire and A Fae walks into a ba I have not read a book that touches all my emotions the way this did, in a very long time. I laughed, cried, and experienced deep love as a mother does for her child along with total confusion as Bernie tries to keep up with the never-ending changes that keep occurring in her life. I absolutely loved this it has so many tongue in cheek moments that kept me chuckling that when things got serious it took my emotions a little time to catch up, but when things got serious it was definitely a change in pace. After three gorgeous males turned her life around showing her that fairy tales come from truth, Bernie has to look at what she perceived as real really is not, and she and her new baby are the focal point of a prophecy which puts them in a very dangerous situation Having a new baby is meant to be joyful but Bernie seems to be an exception to the rule, her life is turned upside down as she tries to work out if the three gorgeous males who have chosen to care for her and her new baby, are doing it for the right reasons. Honestly talk about chaos arriving, the author did a magnificent job of letting us feel and understand everything Bernie was going through, but the one thing that becomes very clear from early in this story is how genuine and caring Bernie is, what you see is what you get and she treats everyone with great compassion and respect, always seeing the best in everyone which is probably why she missed so much of what had been going on right in front of her, this beautiful side of her is why these 3 guys are unable to go through with trying to ensure they benefit from the prophecy, but their attachment to Bernie and the baby has them changing the reason’s they were there and Bernie suddenly finds herself getting deep feelings for each of them, which she finds hard to deal with and understand. Definitely fast paced with what she deals with but not in a way where the story gets confusing, actually when a lot of stressful times occur AJ Bernie’s best friend always finds a way to make everyone laugh. If you enjoy paranormal, you’re going to love this. I highly recommend you grab a copy and get straight into reading this intriguing, fascinating storyline that will keep you wanting more.
Raised in a small town, Bernie always imagined life outside its walls. She had hopes and dreams. Things she wanted to do at every turn. All that changes when she becomes pregnant unexpectedly.
Determined to make the most of what she's been saddled with, she promises herself that she'll give her child a good life. One she so deserves. Until the moment three sexy men appear on her doorstep. It's then her life takes another unexpected turn. For good or worse, she's not quite sure. If she's to succeed in making sense of what lies on the reaches of her consciousness, she'll need to put her trust in those she barely knows. Only then will she attain that which lies just beyond her reach.
A lovely start to The Last Witch series, we meet the headstrong and resilient Bernie. She's a woman who's had to contend with so much in so short a time, yet she refuses to sit on the sidelines while life passes her by. I love the fact that the she doesn't let the guys do as they please with her and her daughter. They may have an agenda, but there's no way she's going to let them achieve an end to their own means. After all, she has the last say in what they do or don't do.
This trio of writers have done a great job in setting up what's to come in book 2. The end has left me wanting more, let me tell you. At first, these characters don't seem like they'll mesh that much. By the end of the book, however, it's a different story. The diversity each character embodies lends further to the lore the authors are trying to establish for this series. Mind you, each character has different plans they want to set into motion. Plans that are circumvented at every turn. Looking forward to what's coming next for Bernie, her family, and the men who've garnered her loyalty, love, and attention.
I am usually not a big fan of the RH genre at all, but I enjoyed this one immensely. I loved the humor, the mystery, and the camaraderie that Bernie, A.J., Darius, Rune, and Lev share. I Really had a good laugh when these 3 men first came in to her bar and thought she was going to hand over her baby to one of them. I would have gone all tiger/ninja mom on anyone who tried to take my baby, as I am sure Bernie would have. I loved the way one mystery after another about the town of Rowley and it's occupants were revealed. It was like opening a big box and finding a smaller one inside that one and so on to reveal yet another piece of the puzzle. I loved the happy/sad ending. Though it was very open ended, it wasn't a cliffhanger. I hate those unless the whole series is done. This ending was perfect, though. I have a feeling they are in for several more battles given the fae, vampire, and shifter worlds are all after baby Rain and Bernie. I love A.J., Bernie's best friend. She is a wonderful piece of work that I can totally relate to. I feel like she is a soul sister. I hope she gets an HEA too. Maybe even her own story. (hint, hint). This book has it all, comedy, sarcasm, drama, mystery, secrets, anger, and love. I definitely recommend this book. It is a great read, and I can't wait for book 2 to come out. 💖💖💖
I'm an avid fan of Karpov Kinrade... and this is, I'm sure, a great start to becoming an Evan Gaustad fan. This book was so good that I didn't want it to end. While it, yes, has everything a KK book is known for (great characters and world building as well as the famous WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ending that can only come from a well crafted story), get ready for something DELIGHTFULLY different! Oh! And don't start this one before bed unless you don't care about sleeping because you won't put it down. Initially, I was a little thrown off by the "punny" title; it made me think that maybe it was a dare story. You know Frankenstein by Mary Shelley? That was a dare story. Anyway, like Frankenstein... it's worth every penny and will become a favorite if you're like me and have a re-read shelf. This story is unique and quite entertaining. When a book can make you laugh out loud while seducing you into reading it in one sitting, that's the kind of book you know is special. And like all KK books, things are never what they seem; I can't wait for the next one!!
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring down a lot. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
I’ve been on an reverse harem binge, don’t know why but I’ve suddenly gotten a craving for them. And I’ve just read Dungeon Queen which was the shit (I’m anxiously and hair pulling-ly waiting for the next one) and decided to give this series a chance and baaaabyyyyyy lemme tell you, I do not regret it.
The idea of having a single mama of a new born witch, whose destined is to either save or destroy the magical communities is ORGINIAL. EPIC. GEH-NIUS!!!!!!
The authors captured and developed Bernie’s character beautifully and her mama bear tendencies were on point. Take away the paranormal aspect of the story, I still feel that the authors did a great job understanding that bond between a mother and her child. With a majority of other books that contain mothers as main characters I’ve always felt that there was a disconnect between the two.
Can’t wait to read more about Rain and what her powers will be ?!
