Ena lives in a small village and works as a healer of a sort. It's a risky job, given that it is forbidden to do so. Seeing people die every day and not being able to do much, takes a toll on her, until one night, it's too much. She takes off, with just a note to say goodbye. Her plan is to walk to the town where her brother works and figure the rest out later.

But the road is not safe, as she soon figures out and it's up to Ena to survive whatever is thrown her way.

It's such a great first book. It gives you a great adventure and a taste of what will come next. I love Ena, she is strong and stubborn, and never gives up, no matter what happens.

It's a very promising start and I look forward to reading what happens next.

Wrath And Wing
By: Megan O'Russell

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wrath And Wing is a novella about a journey. The heroine, Ena, due to circumstances, journeys to her brother. This is the tale of her adventure. It was entertaining and engaging from beginning to end with a few twists and turns and bumps in the road. Honestly, the story felt overall like a prequel to another book or a series(there will be a second book). While I enjoyed reading the lovely descriptions and the premise of the story, I would have liked a bit more substantial characterization. Otherwise, Wrath And Wing was a fast interesting read that fantasy science fiction fans will enjoy.

Wrath & Wing is a great little intro to the Ena of Ilbrea series! It gives enough characterization, so you get to know the main character, Ena, and what makes her tick, then leaves you with a question at the end so you'll read on! Where is her brother, and how will she find him? It also lays the magic system and worldbuilding down effortlessly! It persuaded me to buy the whole series, so I think it did its job!

Megan’s books are so descriptive that I can picture in my minds eye what she is describing as I find myself there.

Ena decides to leave the town where she was born and journey to see her brother. She has plenty of excitement when two people offer to give her a ride as she walks along the road. This book details her journey to her brother but surprises await her there.

I believe young adults and adults will enjoy this book and it certainly leaves one wanting more as there is a preview of the next book that makes you want to continue the story.

I recommend this book and I believe you will find an author you will want to read more of.

A great introduction to a wonderful series. This is the early story of Ena, a healer in training...a healer in a world where the Guild and their sorcerors would kill her for what she does. This story introduces us to the world of Ilbrea and to Ena, the main character in the Ena of Ilbrea series. We learn that she's impulsive and strong-willed, even at her young age. This story was enough to make me dive into the series and I'm happy that I did. The different kinds of magic are well done and the societies are realistic. Plus...Finally!...a character who uses some restraint before running into danger regardless of the dangers. Ena uses her brains, and that makes this an ennjoyable read. I recommend this and the remainder of the series to lovers of YA Fantasy.

This was an okay prequel, not sure if its best to read before book one or after, I think either would work.

'Wrath and Wing' from Megan O'Russell is a prequel to 'Ember and Stone' which is the first book of her Ena of Ilbrea series. Ena is searching for her brother Emmett. Orphaned at a young age Ena likes with Lily an ink maker and secret healer while her brother has gone off to be an apprentice at a nearby village. In this dark and oppressive life Ena decides to take off on foot to see her brother.

spoilers

I didnt really enjoy this, I found Ena very brash and daring which is how I remember her being similar to at the end of 'Ember and Stone' but its not at all like I remember her being described at the beginning of that book and this is supposed to take place before 'Ember and Stone'. The things she does to escape the traffickers, some of the defiance against the law that doesn't speak true to me with how she was and kinda negates any growth on her part in that first book.

I also found the pacing kinda choppy, words were spent on somethings a bit too much whereas other stuff was just bam it's there and happening. Cal just wonderfully shows up when it's most opportune and with two horses, where'd he get those? how's he able to just leave the family business to go chasing her? Even just the traveling from village to village with the way the world/realm is structured in the first book doesn't fully make sense how all these things happen with no lasting consequences. It does help to explain how she knew her brother left his apprenticeship but at the same time I wasn't really worried about that or questioning it.

Overall this was just not my jam and I think if I had read it first I wouldn't have been as excited to get into book one but also I wouldn't have been as offput about a few things so its hard to say.

I received a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Blood, Violence, Kidnapping, and Kissing.

I thought this book worked well as an audiobook. The narrator has a beautiful voice and she "does the voices," which always adds to the experience. Her voice was clear and easy to understand.

This was an excellent way to kick off a series. O'Russell excelled at making me feel anxious for the main character when she was in distress, but also triumphant when she got away with something.

There's room for character growth and I'm hoping that's something I get to see during this series. I love seeing characters grow and shift and an author always has my respect for taking the time to do this well. O'Russell has certainly laid a good foundation to do just that.

I find myself curious about what has happened to some of the characters and what exactly, Ena will do about it. She's certainly not going to just let things go.

I'm excited to start the next book. I recommend this read to fantasy lovers for age high school and up.

This book is rated PG-13 for content listed in the trigger warning.
(This book does not contain any sexual content.)

I realized after I started the Ena of Ilbrea series that this was a prequel. I expected to read about how Ena came to be with Lilly and how her parents died. Why her world is the way it is. But Ena finds herself in a desperate situation and figures out a way to help others as she makes her way out of it. While looking for her brother, she comes across a group of kids being held by the sorcerer. One just happens to be around her age and I can’t help but wonder if this is the original meet cute for a future character we see in Ember & Stone.

It’s not a bad start but I don’t think I’ve gained anymore knowledge having read it that couldn’t have been accomplished with a flashback montage.

This is "Book 0" of the Ena of Ilbrea series; a tiny prequel. I thought I'd give it a try before committing to an entire series.

We're introduced to Ena, a village healer, and the mysterious Guilds that rule the region. She risks a death sentence every time she heals someone, as only the Guild sorcerers are allowed to practice magic.

Ena leave her tiny village to join her blacksmith brother in another city. En route she is capture, and after a daring escape, she gets to her destination. But where is her brother?

I think this short story did the trick, because I've ordered the (official) first book of the series.

Wrath & Wing is a sort of flashback to a few events that were alluded to in the Ena of Ilbrea series. As a companion novella, I thought it was alright. I’d suggest reading it after finishing the four book series, like I did. If you read it before Ember & Stone it would make little sense and the characters would fall flat. I think I’ll re-read this series again one day! It was special.
There’s another series ‘Guilds of Ilbrea’, taking place next in the timeline. But I’m not emotionally ready to move on yet.

I’m super excited about this audiobook and after listening to this first installment in the Ena of Ilbrea series I can honestly say that I’m thrilled by where the story will go! I loved going on the journey, and the descriptions in the book were so well crafted. The pacing of the story was excellent as it never felt rushed, but also shared enough detail. I could imagine each scene and how each character would react. I adored Ena and her courageous spirit. A definite must listen! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A great prequel. Although it's been a while since I read Ember and Stone, so I don't know if the events in this book are even mentioned, I just finished reading the second book (Mountain and Ash) and there are some parallels to Wrath and Wing there that shed light on Ena's choices in Mountain and Ash. It's clear from this prequel that Ena has always been a force to be reckoned with, despite people's regular underestimation of her.

Great prequel story, to discover the wonderful and action packed world of Ena. What Ena must do in order to survive and for what’s to come. I loved the foreshadowing at the end. I very much enjoyed listening to the audiobook. The narrator is fabulous and I could feel the emotions come through the speakers. I love getting lost in this world and I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading YA fantasy reads.

Prequel to Ena of Ilbrea series

Survive, no matter the cost.

I love the Ena of Ilbrea series, and this prequel truly sets the stage for the other books. Wonderful character development and detailed world building.

"There was nothing in existence but pain and death..."
"...I looked to the mountains for protection."
"There is a hatred burning deep in my soul. A loathing bred from years of watching the people around me suffer at the hands of the Guilds."

What an introduction to a series! I know this was an optional read for Ena of Ilbrea but it has absolutely set the world for magic and non magic users. I look forward to finding out who Ena’s love will be and how they become the undoing for her. I wonder if we will find out where her brother went and why he just disappeared from everything. Does Cal know a lot more than he’s letting on in this novella? I’m about to find out!

Wrath and Wing is a prequel to the Ena of Ilbrea series, in the book we see more of Ena’s smarts and determination. In this story you see in true Ena fashion, her having to choose again to do what is right and just running away. She is such a strong character, someone you want fighting on your side. Although this prequel is on the shorter side, it rally adds more depth to the characters.

Excellent, an entertaining story with well written believable characters, the author has created an interesting and realistic world but with added magic. Loved the character of Ena, determined and inventive, able to think on her feet. The audiobook is really well narrated and easy to listen to and I look forward to following these characters through the series.

Livro introdutório acerca da saga de Ena, curto e de leitura rápida. Como eu amo livros de fantasia, acho que a narrativa tem muito potencial, vejamos se essa expectativa se cumpre quando eu conseguir ler a sequência.

I read the first page and then stopped reading for a long time and then picked it up an hour ago and finished it quickly, it’s a short read. I didn’t like how it seemed rushed, it’s a good book but I wish there was more context given as who was who or why the things that were happening happened.
