I was incredibly enthusiastic when I first read the description, but when I learned that the book only truly lasts for three days, I kind of assumed that they were travelling back in time again, which, for some reason, made me a little less excited.

This is getting really interesting! A lot of blood spilled in this one, and the town covered in shadow is freaking amazing! This is horrifying as much as exciting! Apparently, when Shinpei traveled back in time after dying in Mio's shadow's hands, he got a mysterious eye that lets him control time. Finally, in this volume, Ushio joins the loop!

The first chapter makes you ask yourself how many pseudo-incest romance vibes you can ignore, but the rest of the volume is a promising and intense thriller?

Druga część serii rozpoczyna się dokładnie w tym samym momencie co finał pierwszego tomu. Widzimy więc Shinpeia, który powrócił w rodzinne strony na pogrzeb bliskiej sobie osoby, który teraz ma przed oczami całą i zdrową Ushio (jak gdyby nic się nie stało). Dziewczyna nie kryje radości z tego spotkania. Dużo mniejszy entuzjazm przejawia chłopak, w którego głowie galopują tysiące myśli. Niedawno brał udział w jej uroczystościach pogrzebowych, a teraz widzi jej rozpromieniony uśmiech. Podświadomie zdaje on sobie sprawę, że ma to coś wspólnego z wydarzeniami dziejącymi się w tym miejscu i pętlą czasu, w której jest uwięziony.
Spotkanie to staje się preludium do dalszej bardziej skomplikowanej, zwariowanej i widowiskowej fabuły. Oboje udają się na trwający festiwal. Dziewczyna wydaje się kompletnie nie przejmować faktem swojej oficjalnej śmierci, z rozbawieniem odwiedzając kolejne kramy. Shinpei z kolei stara się, aby nikt znajomy jej nie zobaczył, co mogłoby przecież wywołać dość poważny szok. Chwile beztroskiej radości szybko się jednak kończą, kiedy na scenę wkraczają „cienie”. Dla młodych bohaterów będzie oznaczać to trudne momenty, dla czytelnika zaś mocną dawkę wyrazistej akcji.
Scenariusz recenzowanego tomiku skupia się głównie wokół trzech postaci: Ushio, Shunpeia i tajemniczej kobiety, którą chłopak poznał na promie. Każdy z nich w odpowiednim momencie historii zostaje wysunięty na czoło opowieści, tak aby mocniej skupić uwagę odbiorcy i dać mu odpowiedzi na niektóre nurtujące go pytania. Wokół tego trio autor buduje dalszą część intrygującej historii, w której udaje mu się dobrze połączyć elementy akcji, dramatu i thrillera (z nutką horroru).
Bardzo ważną rolę odgrywają tutaj emocje bohaterów. Udręka malująca się na twarzach postaci jest mocno sugestywna i ma ona wpływ na klimat opowieści. Mroczne, tajemnicze i niebezpieczne cienie stają się dla młodych ludzi przeciwnikiem, którego nie można łatwo pokonać. Ich zdolność przybierania dowolnego kształtu sprawia, że tak naprawdę nikomu nie można do końca ufać (nawet bardzo bliskim osobom). The endgame seems now defined: The shadows intend to kill everybody on the night of the festival and it’s up to Shin to try and stop them.
Again.
Tanaka perfectly manages tension, interspersed with radically brutal action scenes. He does a very good job of instilling a definitely creepy atmosphere as well as delivering hurting deaths.
Some incongruities are sill to be answered- the big boobs woman who certainly can use a shotgun or Ushio’s lack of memory for instance but it’s secondary to the feeling of urgency he’s set to Shin’s objectives.
The art suffers from the same problem than Karasuma’s No guns life: Tanaka obviously can draw but neglects proper inking for weekly output obligations I reckon. Too bad, it would upgrade the visuals from " very good" to "great".

Con este tomo empiezo a entender por dónde van los tiros y lo que pinta la chica morena con gafas en toda esta historia. Me está recordando un poco a Higurashi no Na Kokoro ni por su crudeza y por la ambientación de una civilización aislada con sus propias creencias, que, en parte, son las precursoras de la historia.
La aparición de Ushio me ha dejado descolocada, y la relación de personajes con Sō y su hermana dentro del triángulo amoroso que tiene pinta que son Ushio, Mio y Shinpei me ha gustado mucho.
Lo único que en esta historia no sé si me cuadra es el poder de '"el día de la marmota", recurso que siempre se me ha hecho pesadillo. Aun así, la verdad es que por ahora está bien usado.

The second volume and things get really confusing/over the top/Higurashi style. It was good though, but holy crap things got harrowing. At times I thought it couldn't get worse, but then it did, with a shocking couple of chapters that have me want to read (and watch as I am also watching the anime) further and see if Shinpei is able to defeat the shadows/break the loop/save Mio and Ushio and the town. I am so curious about Ushio, did he meet the real one ? Or a shadow? Given the ending, I do think it was the real one, but who knows for certain. The shadows are very well in pretending to be the real deal.

Aufmachung
Der Zeichenstil ist leicht skizzenhaft angehaucht. Dennoch findet man auch viele Details. Die Charaktere sind äußerlich gut zu unterscheiden und recht vielseitig.
Inhaltlich gibt es ein paar Sprünge, die jedoch der Story geschuldet und nachvollziehbar sind. Ansonsten empfinde ich den Erzählstil als mitreißend.
Charaktere
Shinpei ist war zwei Jahre von seiner Heimatinsel verschwunden die er nun wegen eines tragischen Ereignisses wieder betreten muss. Plötzlich steckt er in einer mysteriösen Sache, die er nicht versteht.
Fazit
Es ist richtig schwer hier etwas Sinn stiftendes zu sagen, denn ich bin hin und her gerissen. Einerseits ist die Story richtig spannend und zieht mich sehr mit, auf der anderen Seite ist es nach wie vor so verwirrend, dass ich noch wahnsinnig werde. Am Ende habe ich mehr offene Fragen, als die, die mir beantwortet wurden.
Mittlerweile bekommt man auch ein etwas besseres Gefühl für die Charaktere und es gibt interessante Wendungen. Aber wohin das führen soll, weiß ich noch so absolut gar nicht.
Wer eine düstere, verrückte Mystery Reihe sucht, ist hier definitiv an der richtigen Stelle.

In book two he takes what he knows and works with someone else who knows how to kill the shadow copies. Things are starting to look up as they successfully kill the shadow copies and we get to see a little bit of the other characters' side that we didn't see in the first book.

The shadow monsters in this series are actually terrifying. Their powers are so interesting. I've seen other media do the whole copy memories thing but never the "update" part of it. I can't wait to see how Shinpei is gonna work his way around that.

Ieri ho concluso la giornata con la lettura del secondo volume di Summer time rendering di Yasuki Tanaka, serie che con il suo primo volume era riuscita a conquistarsi e a sorprendermi. Non vedevo l'ora di leggere il seguito, di scoprire cosa sarebbe successo a Shinpei, a Mio e a tutti gli abitanti di Hitogashima, isola immaginaria nea prefettura di Wakayama. ⠀

Nov 20. 2021: This is the first series I've seen that not just teased, but actually showed what appears to be it's final arc 11 volumes early. The pace of this series is incredibly unique, and reads more like a video game than a manga, and the series even acknowledges it this volume. Incredibly well written stuff.
Jul 20. 2021: This volume did the perfect job of setting stakes, and making you understand how dangerous the Shadows are even to someone who's in a groundhog day loop. They may not be able to kill Shinpei, but they don't need to kill him to win, and that's what makes them a threat.
