"THE BRITISH ARE COMING!" . . . but so are THE FRENCH!
A spy in the Sons of Liberty threatens to crush the patriot cause on the eve of war, but who will fire the first shot at Lexington and launch the American Revolution? The Marquis de Lafayette commits his sword to fight as France seeks to secretly support the American cause with spies on both sides of the Atlantic. Following Bunker Hill, George Washington faces the impossible task of driving the British from Boston with an undisciplined army and no gunpowder or cannons. As Congress debates Independence, Thomas Jefferson pens a Declaration—but it will never see the light of day if the vote isn’t unanimous. The Epic Order of the Seven animal team must assist the Founding Fathers with espionage and numerous miracles to win this war for American Independence while a new, evil enemy seeks to slaughter the patriots and their commander in the field. But which will be the more dangerous—the enemy without or the enemy within?
Covering the events from March 1775 to July 1776, this second book in Cote’s Epic Revolutionary Saga tells of the incredible yet lesser-known struggles of the war before Independence.

This book is so amazing! The author's vivid detail in describing the events, characters, and history itself makes The Declaration, the Sword and the Spy so interesting. A reader will certainly enjoy how Mrs. Cote introduces the characters and how the plot unravels throughout the course of the book. The depth of the words on every page is so inspiring!
Jenny once again does a magnificent job tying history into God's story. Because I've studied this area of history quite a bit I was impressed by the detail, but sometimes it made the story feel slow. However for young people who don't know the story as well, they will be enthralled. And the new character, Jock, was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one!
I was blessed enough to be an advanced reader for this book (you might even be able to find my review comment 😉), and let me tell you, it was amazing! Jenny weaves fiction into history masterfully, making the American Revolution come alive! I'm not even American (🇦🇺), yet I love these books. 100% would reccomend to anybody, regardless of age (or country). What are you waiting for? Go read it!
This book took me a bit to get into - the story, the style and the cadence, but once I found my rhythm I really enjoyed it! I realized how little I knew about the American revolution. A great book that I would consider reading again.
Summary: The Declaration, The Sword, and The Spy is a retelling of the events of most of the American Revolution. It covers stuff like Paul Revere's Midnight Ride, the Battle of Bunker Hill, Henry Knox, General William Howe, Fort Ticonderoga, General Gage, the Marquis de Lafayette, George Washington, the Battle of Dorchester Heights, and most importantly, the signing of The Declaration of Independence. New, fresh spy tactics come to light and more agents brought into play, some good, and some bad. What will the outcome of this fight for liberty be? (You'll have to find out :D)
Worldviews: Jenny L. Cote is a Christian author, and I found nothing theologically wrong or chronologically incorrect. No other prominent worldviews featured here.
Foul Language: There was some mentions of "cursing" but no specific words were mentioned.
Violence: There definitely was some. Like minor skirmishes, battles, I mean, it's about the American Revolution so there were quite a few fight scenes, but it's not super gory.
Romance: There were some scenes with minor flirting; nothing inappropriate.
Alcohol: There were some scenes that involved drinking wine/alcohol, but it didn't get super crazily out of hand.
Rating and recommended age level: I’m going to rate this 4 stars! My only "problem" with it was that I think while Cote did an awesome job bringing history to life, I think there were some parts where there could've been more action, as some of the scenes were kinda lagging in that. There was definitely more of that here than in the past book. As for my recommended age level, I’m going to say 10-11+, as the length of this book and all the details make it better for 10+ audiences. This is very age appropriate, and I learned SO much history from this, I highly recommend it.
