This book happened a little too fast and ended with a whimper of an epilogue, glossing over the recovery of both the hero and heroine. I guess I just expected more?

First let me say, I love this author. Jillian Hart writes some of the best western romances. This one is one of the best.
Claire Hamilton is married to Ham a mean, hateful and abusive drunk. The more he drinks the more he physically abuses Claire. She is also pregnant. Joshua is a neighbor rancher that comes across Ham and Claire and the wagon wreck and shoots Ham, in the shoulder to stop his abuse
. He ties Ham up and tries to help Claire who is covered in blood she has lost the baby. He leaves her with a tied up Ham and goes for the Doctor. When he gets back Ham is dead shot in the back. He thinks Claire has shot him. When she gets stronger she thinks Joshua has killed him.

Joshua doesn't want a wife. Claire doesn't want a husband. Claire's In-laws are trying to take everything away from her. Joshua wants to help her. She needs a way to make money. Between trying to find out who the killer is and trying not to fall in love the story of this widow will tug at your heart strings.

It is sad that I finished the last book in this series.

Back to reading about the McKaslin's now.

This book was really good as were the rest.

Greed reared its ugly head as it so often does within families.
