One estate. Two heirs. No rules, only battle lines.
Sophia Anson does not have much in her life to call her own and never has. Nothing surprises or delights her more than to suddenly be named mistress of Rosennor Hall, and from a relation she had never heard of nor met at that. But her elation is short lived, for she is not the only heir to the estate, and the will is very specific. The two of them are to share Rosennor. Together.
Larkin Roth does not have time nor energy to deal with the twisted and ridiculous legacy left to him and the fair but fiery Miss Anson. He is determined to stand his ground and fight for every inch of the estate he can get, and he does not care what happens to her in the process. But a life in the same house as Sophia Anson could never be simple, and soon he finds himself thinking of her as more than just his enemy, and of Rosennor as more than just his inheritance.

I was born once upon a time, and I started making up stories right away. Eventually, I started writing them down, and never stopped! I have a day job, which gets in the way of my writing, but it pays the bills so I CAN write, so I guess that's okay! I am a bookworm, which I think is key to being a writer, and I am always looking for inspiration! I live in Indiana, am obsessed with hot chocolate, and I am on track to be the best aunt in the world.
.. The Rivals of Rosennor Hall is the third book in the Entangled Inheritance Book series, the author of this book was by Rebecca Connolly. I was able to read this little gem through the Amazon Kindle Unlimited program.
Finally, a delightfully clean and inspirational historical romance series!

This book presented a unique situation based upon a bequest stipulating two recipients sharing one estate in the oddest way possible. The legacy caused the two unrelated heirs a great deal of ridiculous havoc between themselves. The sparks fly between them as they set out to make each other a miserable as possible, yet they both had the patience of saints with Mrs. Roth and her ridicuous spells.

This is a clean stand-alone novel (few kisses) that has an abrupt H.E.A. without any details. I would have appreciated an epilogue that described the final event, changes made, and future outcomes. Ahhhh, a reader can hope, can she not?
There were a few grammatical errors, but not enough to distract from the topics at hand.

I loved this story! What a fun plot. I have read the other 2 and liked this whole idea. I never pass up a Connolly story so I jumped at this one. It takes skill to craft a novel worth reading where the 2 main characters start out as rivals or dislike each other. I either end up disliking one and thinking they are jerks or it's just not believable and feels weird. Rebecca is a fun author and I love the light feeling and some deep feelings she can convey. This has some fun tension and some great moments.
Holy cow, this book brought it all. Disliking the characters in the beginning but only to fall in love with them later. The ending was full with sizzling moments and plenty of butterflies to roam within my stomach. The happy ending could be called low-spice romance without becoming inappropriate. I very much approve of this story and might just read it again …soon.
I loved the unique twist in the plot of this book! Sophia and Larkin not only inherit Rosennor Hall together, but the will stipulates that the contents of the rooms and land that Larkin inherits belong to Sophia, and vice versa, among other crazy details. So much fodder for pranks... Larkin and Sophia initially despise each other because of the situation and the reactions they so easily pull from each other. I loved seeing them soften towards each other as they get to know the true character of their archnemesis ;) Larkin's mother has some sort of dimensia so she joins them on the estate as the "chaperone" and I loved the way Sophia had such a compassionate spirit for her. A fun and often surprising Regency story!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
Sophia Anson and Larkin Roth don't know each other and hadn't met before being summoned to a solicitor's office. They are told that they've both inherited property from a long-lost relative neither of them knew--a Sir Kentworth Jameson Edmund Howard-Dale, whose will had the oddest distribution of property I've ever heard of.
Larkin inherits the main house, Sophia the renovated rooms, wings, and additional buildings built on the estate over the years, but neither of them owned the furnishings in them. The same for the barn, animals and property Rosennor Hall was built on. The cattle on Larkin's land belonged to Sophia and the sheep and goats on Sophia's property belonged to Larkin. The will went on and on in this way. So with no love loss between Sophia and Larkin they both move into Rosennor Hall with Larkin's mother (ridiculous though she can be) as chaperone to keep things all proper and whispers in the household and neighborhood to a minimum. Let the games begin.
I laughed out loud at the antics of Larkin and Sophia as they tried to best each other trying to get the other to want to give up their portion of the inheritance and move out. Having the servants move the furniture around in rooms they didn't own so they couldn't enter to do it themselves. Despite how Sophia felt towards Larkin, she was kind and considerate when dealing with his mother. Speaking of Larkin's mother, she was a hoot--purposely acting completely mad to drive away the many caretaker's Larkin hired to help with her.
One of my favorite parts was Larkin's goat. The author's description of this poor animal is hilarious and the goat has a fondness for Larkin, which is not returned on his part. I think Rebecca Connolly does a wonderful job turning the strong dislike these two characters have for each other into love. I didn't think it felt forced, but a natural progression from spending so much time together. This was such a fun book to read.
I received a complimentary copy but loved it so much I bought my own copy.
Enemies-to-lovers is such a challenging trope to pull off successfully
And though this is hardly the worst attempt I've ever read, it doesn't really succeed either, unfortunately.
It's unfortunate, because the author is an engaging writer, but she has too heavy a hand for this trope.
***SPOILERS***
Larkin & Sophia were so rude, , mean & arrogant to each other - I couldn't like either of them very much. As a proper gentleman, Mr Arthur would not have just sat there letting Larkin & Sophia snipe at each other like that, either.
The story was trying too hard to be funny & witty - it's overdone. It would have been *much* better for them to go at each other with understated snark. And that's so British, after all.
No way would a gentlewoman be screaming & shrieking thru the house. She was too much a shrew. No way would she speak so insultingly to Taft, a gentleman she hadn't ever been introduced to yet.
The servants not think to talk to them about the Cutting of the Roses? Not even remotely likely EVEN if they really did assume that Larkin & Sophia already knew about it. They would need to find out if the new owners were willing to continue the tradition & to how much of an extent, especially since they hadn't been there long & were in the process of fixing things up. The servants were also fully aware that the feuding pair was rearranging things on each other & the house would need to be fixed up to be on public display
Sophia would not run away from home over something Larkin's mom says with her track record of making things up that Sophia knows too well. I couldn't buy it regardless of her insecurity. At the very least Sophia would have made some attempt to verify it with Larkin, directly or indirectly.
***END SPOILERS***
I have read other books by this author that I liked, but sadly, I can't recommend this one.
*Clean romance level: passionate kisses *Religion: briefest of passing general references to belief in God, or not, & attending church *Language: a handful of d*mns & h*lls
Sophia Anson and Larkin Roth both receive a summons that they have inherited from one Sir Kentworth. Neither of them knew him, or that they were even related to him. I, myself, wish I could meet Sir Kentworth after having seen the very eccentric will he wrote. He ends up leaving his original estate to Mr. Larkin Roth, and additions and added property were left to Miss Sophia Anson. What really cracks me up is that the furnishings in Miss Anson's inheritance are left to Mr. Roth, and vice versa. What follows is a hilarious battle of wills with each party hoping to convince the other to give up their share of this unorthodox inheritance.
I'm not usually a fan of stories where the love interests are mean to one another. Rebecca Connolly pulled it off though! Sophia and Larkin were both on to each other's antics and enjoying the game. I loved when they would lay down their swords for a few minutes to work together toward a common goal. They also had a slow but delicious build-up of chemistry. I couldn't put this book down, or stop smiling as I read.
I assume that an inheritance like this would never happen, but I loved reading every minute of it! It makes me want add a few quirks to my will.
Content: clean (a handful of minor curse words, a few kisses, no violence)
Oh dear, only a few chapters in and already I can't handle the direction this is going. Both our hero and heroine immediately dislike one another for no apparent reason (their unfavorable opinions of one another were formed even before they learned of their unique inheritance, mere minutes after meeting), and ever since, they're repeatedly going at one another's throats in immature, rude, and often ridiculous ways. Based on the other reviews, it only escalates. I can't stand to read any more scenes of this, let alone the rest of the book. Is this banter supposed to be humorous and romantic? How can true love develop from such horrible behavior? I'm sorry, but I prefer my enemies-to-lovers romances to be less hostile and not so over-the-top. Not for me.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I usually love this author. I read 75% of this book and had zero desire to read more. The hero and heroine were horrifically rude and vulgar to each other. They were more insulting and disrespectful than I could look past, really. I felt no attachment when their tiny moments of goodness were preceded and followed by acts of rudeness and name calling. So much seems out of place and time for this novel.
I loved this book! This was possibly the best one I have read by Connolly yet. Right from the start I was completely engaged - I hadn’t even gotten to the third chapter & I decided I loved it. Mr & Mrs Arthur are adorable!! Larkin & Sophie (H&h) are both so full of spunk & wit that their battle/interactions had me laughing continually... and of course dear Mr. Tuttle-Kirk! Each time I come across him I love him more. I am definitely putting this in my “to be read again” pile! Clean, funny & wholesome at it’s best! I can wholeheartedly recommend!!!
Just over 3 stars. And to be fair, if this had been my first read by this author, it probably would have been rated a tad higher. The characters and banter were fun, but just too similar to the last story. I do know where to go though if I just need a fun romance.
If you love a battle of wills, your gonna adore this book... pun intended
I have read the other stories of the entangled inheritance series and I have to say, this installment was the most exciting. It has all the charm of a regency romance with enough hormones and word slinging that you will feel as though you stumbled upon a middle-school cafeteria food fight in full force. Do not be alarmed, you will still adore the characters and their antics, you just may have to re-read the paragraphs that describe their property ownership rights. It was tricky, or trickery to say the least. At times, I wondered how they would ever end up coming to a compromise, BUT you end up falling in love with the characters almost as they fall in love with each other. Spoiler, probably. But it’s a romance novel, what did you expect?
While the plot sounded fun (two strangers thrown together due to an absurd inheritance), I found the main characters, Larkin and Sophia, very unlikable. They were at each other’s throats within minutes of meeting, without any real provocation. Aside from a few occasions of kindness and cooperation, they continue to bicker, yell and cuss at one another for the entire book. At 96%, after he realizes he ‘loves’ her and hasn’t seen her for two weeks, Larkin’s first words to Sophia are, “Where the h*** have you been?”.
Enough said.

I always enjoy Rebecca Connolly. But this is exceptional. Funny, poignant, witty, interesting, wonderful, well drawn wonderful characters, wrapped up in beautiful, well edited writing. I could only wish it were twice as long. I can foresee many rereadings. Highly recommended.
My favorite so far in this series! All the great things I love in a romance. From arguments and humor to finally the realization they are in love. So good! I love Rebecca Connolly's books.
While the idea is interesting, I. Could. Not. Abide. The. Bickering!!! 20% in and the protagonists are still fighting like 6 year olds. I tried but just couldn’t look past the immature and unnecessary slinging of insults. So annoying.
This was such a fun read. I laughed so many times. I love the banter between Sophia and Larkin. There was so much craziness going on, but it was a lot of fun and the perfect escape I needed.
The premise of this entangled inheritance is pretty hilarious and sets up some humorous situations through out the book. But to truly enjoy this book you pretty much need to set aside everything you think you know about Regency England because the characters aren't going to behave at all like we think they should. They are rude, snide, mean spirited, and initially not very likable. There is not even the pretense of behaving as proper young people. And at the beginning of the book I didn't think I was going to like them or enjoy the book at all. I'm pleased to report that by the end of the book I did have a smile on my face.
The word ridiculous is used over and over in this book and I think it describes so much about the entire book. I think everything is a little over the top and a bit ridiculous and if you can set aside expectations of Regency England then you can sit back and enjoy the ride. In some ways I think the story might have been better set in a more modern time but having it in the Regency Era just adds to the ridiculousness of the entire thing. I can see Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn playing these roles set in the 40's or something- madcap comedy.
So, don't take the book too seriously. Enjoy it for what it is.
Sex: a kiss and a little mild innuendo Language: some, pretty mild Violence: no, unless you count their verbal sparring.
The Rivals of Rosennor Hall is riveting and romantically intriguing to say the least. Once again, Ms. Connolly gifts us with a wonderful tale of rivals who are thrown together by fate–– Sophia and Larkin. Sophia is smart and stubborn, Larkin is quick-witted and calculating–– so of course they make a perfect match. Ms. Connolly crafts this story in such a way that the banter between these two characters is amusing and gives insight to the slowly simmering romance that is just under the surface. And oh my–– the pranks that take place made me laugh out loud more than once. I personally enjoyed this book immensely because of the lack of insta-love and the sheer creativity of it! This story is fresh, romantic, intriguing, and fun. Good job, Ms. Connolly:)
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I found no errors within this story. I recommend this story very much to readers who've enjoyed Ms. Connolly's previous books, and to those who simply enjoy regency romance in general. 4.5/5 stars:)
In this lighthearted, unusual and quirky story, a distant relative bequeaths his considerable estate to an unrelated man and woman with the oddest conditions attached. Each receives various rooms, although the other inherits the furniture in said rooms. Both quickly become spiteful children determining to best the other.
This is a cute story with few serious moments. The hero's mother, Mrs. Roth has a tenuous and intermittent grasp on reality and is delightful.
I love Rebecca Connolly and have read all of her Regency offerings. In this novel however, there is an extreme overuse of the word "ridiculous". There are plenty of synonyms for this word, such as absurd, preposterous, droll, etc. All in all, this is an enjoyable and clean read.
Very entertaining!! I loved so many things about this book! I absolutely appreciate the author's sense of humor! The plot is original and comical. The characters are just perfect and so likable. The attraction between the two is so fun as it develops, with several sigh inducing moments... The writing is done very well, with so many witty and funny situations. I also enjoyed the characters of Larkin's mother, and his friend Taft - the Earl. This book made me laugh (a lot) and cry (a bit). Rebecca Connolly is a gifted writer and this book was a wonderful change from the ordinary. I received an ARC of this book. My opinions expressed here are my own. I highly recommend this book and I will be reading it again!
Larkin and Sophia! 😍 This was so enjoyable! It’s one my favorite tropes— enemies to lovers and it was well done! I love the wit and clever writing style Rebecca Connolly always brings into her books.
I’m giving this book 5 stars bc I will be putting it on my reread list as I’m sure there will come a day when I crave to dive back into Rosennor and the two rivals who both wish to battle for their inheritance.
This was such a fun book! It captured my attention from the beginning until the very end. I loved the banter between Sophia and Larkin. It was fun seeing Mr. Tuttle-kirk change the lives of more people. I've enjoyed this series and all the authors have done a wonderful job. With all their witty dabs at each other, I wasn't sure how they'd get their HEA.
Funny, love the banter between the characters. Can be read as a stand alone. Only one character is in the previous books in this series and that is the solicitor Mr Tuttle-Kirk. Mr Tuttle-Kirk , not a major character, contacts you when you inherit an estate. What follows is a story that makes you laugh and pull for your favorite character. A battle of wills, or in this case furniture.
Two people, one divided property. It could have been war of the roses with a happy ending. Loved all the characters and absolutely loved the dialogue! Creativity at its best and I have enjoyed many of me connolly s novels, but this is my favorite by far!!!!
I enjoyed reading this 3rd installment of the entangled inheritance series. I enjoyed the characters and the silly antics of them disputing who used what. I’m glad the ending turned out as it did and hope there is a book 4!
