The Epilogues: Part I

Groom? Check.

Dress? Check.

Cake? Check.

More cake? Double Check.

Even more cake? Triple check.

(Seriously, who left Lethe alone with Grier's credit card?)

Anything that can go wrong has,but all the deposits have been paid, and the menus are set. Mostly. There's always room for more cake, right? All that's left is for Grier and Linus to exchange vows and set off on their honeymoon. Their happily ever after awaits, so close they can taste it.

No.

Wait.

That's probably just more cake. Frosting gets everywhere.

Anyway, there's also murder, arson, and general mayhem. This is what happens when two potentates marry. Just cross your fingers they survive exchanging vows, and that the knot they tie doesn't turn into a noose.

This is my work-break read, mostly because it is on the kindle-iphone version and is undemanding. And in the interests of series completion. If that sounds like damning with faint praise--or rather, damning by situation, well, then it is. I will give it credit: it definitely takes my mind of my job.

In this one, narrative goes back and forth between Grier and Linus. Mostly it feels like one long in-joke, especially about the werewolf eating cake, when it isn't Grier and Linus cooing at each other about how lucky they are to be together. Someone dosed the flowers with wolfsbane bronze, and now seems to be attempting to sabatoge the wedding. I'm not sure I really remember the baddie--I mean, Quarantine Brain was approximately 945 days ago (at least, in dog years), so I'm behind the curve.

Ultimately, I understand why this was unsatisfying for so many. It’s a delicate balance to go from romantic wedding shenanigans to stalker-sabotage mystery, and it ends up leaning heavily towards the nuptials (cake, food-tasting, pre-wedding parties). The resolution to the mystery comes out of left field, with absolutely no build or hints to the situation. . But now I’ve nailed both series completion and another reason to let go of KU.

Two and a half wedding bells, rounding down for the truly left-field resolution. Note: it is a long novella (or it seemed that way), so for those paying for it, you may feel it is worth it.

How to Kiss an Undead Bride was a satisfactory novella that finally gives fans the Wedding they have all been waiting for.

All the players and friends from The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy come out to play. Two years have past since the ending of the series and now we finally get the Wedding of the century, but someone from Grier’s past is interfering.

Linus and Grier finally tie the knot and we get a little subterfuge plot to keep things rolling along. We and the characters are all looking one way, when someone else comes from the other direction and stabs you in the back. We also see a lot and learn a little more about the gwyllgi pack in Savannah too.

This novella features Lines and Grier’s POV. We also get crossover mentions to the Black Dog, Gemini, and The Potentate of Atlanta series. The Atlanta series is ok, but the other mentions didn’t need to be said. They had no purpose.

As for Grier this isn’t the Grier I remember. In the series she was more independent and fought to gain the knowledge she needs. Here she no longer rides the motorcycle, she no longer is studying necromancy, and didn’t sound like she was taking her role as Potentate seriously. She relies on her genetic memory to help her get out of situations or Linus to handle things.

As for the friendship between Lethe and Grier it felt like Lethe is using Grier to do whatever she wants whenever she wants and Grier is using Lethe so she can have no boundaries. Not a healthy friendship in my opinion.

Now, this book is not designed to be read on it’s own or before the series. The series is a read in order.

How to Kiss an Undead Bride was all right.

Okay! So good things first: Grier and Linus' wedding scene was lovely and I teared up a little bit because they finally got to be married and together forever :'D But that lasted for a whole two minutes before things went to heck again.

My main problem with this was Lethe. For a novella that was supposed to focus on and wrap things up for Grier, a lot of the plot and conflicts and scenes were about Lethe and Eva: the cake tasting, the wedding menu, the threats, the wedding itself. You could also see the major twist at the end that was Eva-focused from a miiiiile away because Edwards laid it on so thick with the Volkov stuff that what was going on became obvious.

And as with the last book, Lethe was once again basically reduced to someone who just ate all the time. That was her entire personality. There was also the introduction of new characters and a break in the flow of the narrative just to add their backstories - I'm not sure if these people are from other Edwards' series and she threw them in or if they're going to be relevant for the spin-off or what.

Grier and Linus' relationship was also reduced to innuendo. I'd say about 95% of their interactions had some joke about them having sex. And, despite this book taking place two years after the last one ended, there was no real character development regarding Grier and Linus' insecurities about their relationship and love for one another. There was quite a bit of Linus angsting about that, together with the same old Boaz stuff. It was unnecessary and made me think they shouldn't be getting married after all.

There was one other thing that upset me quite a bit, so warning for mentions of child pornography and sexual abuse: one character is said to have been fired from a school Linus went to for having inappropriate pictures of kids on their computer. This character also had a history of groping people without their consent. Yet that was mentioned off-hand along with the implication that Linus suffered at their hands, which was why he was insecure, and then was never addressed again. Aside from being fired from their original job, this character went on to open their own business and to be considered some of the best in their area and a person Lethe and Linus made business with. I mean???????????? What the heck???????????????

So while I did appreciate, and am very happy with, Grier and Linus getting married, the sloppy plot and the direction these supposed epilogues took really didn't work for me. I'm really not sure if Edwards got tired of writing this or what, but the quality of the story just isn't the same as with the first five novels. At least I get to say goodbye forever now.

Sloppy

I wish I hadn’t read this book.

This book is so sloppy that I would wonder if the same author wrote it as who wrote the previous 6 books of TBGTN. This book picks up more than two years after the end of the previous book. From a technical standpoint, the timeline is problematic on too many levels to fully enumerate. Sufficed to say that the Potentate of Atlanta spin off book that shares multiple characters with TBGTN apparently happens on an entirely different timeline and the relationships between the crossover characters make no sense at all if one has read all of the books.

On a side note, Marit from the earlier books is now a little person or gwyllgi are more than 10’ tall and 5’ wide as the author describes Marit as being 1/2 as tall as her gwyllgi boyfriend and 1/3 as wide across.

This addendum also crosses over into the universe of other series by Ms. Edwards. Characters and scenarios from the Black Dog and Gemini series are thrown in - which I’m not sure how the timeline would work with those books either.

Grier is unrecognizable as she has given up riding her motorcycle and the cars that Linus bought in the previous books so there could be a joke about her naming her new SUV “Moby”. She no longer cares about studying necromancy with Linus and instead of taking her role as Potentate seriously, she relies entirely on her genetic memory to make things happen for her or has Linus handle everything for her. It all feels very lazy. The friendship between Grier and Lethe means that Grier has no boundaries and Lethe gets to do whatever she wants whenever she wants however she wants with whomever she wants. Lethe ruined Grier’s proposal to Linus. Lethe ruins Grier’s cake tasting appointment. Lethe ruined Grier’s catering tasting menu. Lethe ruined Grier’s bachelorette party. And, spoiler alert, Lethe ruins Grier’s wedding.

4.5 Stars... It was such fun to be back with Grier, Linus and the whole gang... The big day is approaching and anything that can go wrong, does... When a potential threat from the past begins to threaten those Grier holds dear, she knows she must act fast... Told with humor, romance, friendship, and family, this epilogue brings readers full circle with Linus and Grier and opens avenues still to explore... I love existing in this magical world that Hailey Edwards created even for just a short time... Looking forward to continuing to explore these characters and all the mayhem they create:)

It’s been a couple of years since the last book, and now that Grier’s Potentate training is complete, she and Linus are finally getting married. Yay! With only days until they tie the knot, Volkov resurfaces and threatens to make their special day a disaster.

Aw, this was such a cute little novella/epilogue for Grier and Linus. I adore them both. I do wish we had MORE of them in a full-sized continuation of the series instead of a little novella. I know, I know, sometimes authors want to move on from their characters. I’m going to read the next two epilogues, mostly because the last one is something about a baby and I need to see how Grier and Linus get to that point.

It was nice to visit with Grier and Linus again.....

The book had a nice dose of mystery while Linus and Grier prepare for their upcoming Nuptials, not all goes to plan though as someone behind the scenes is slowly sabotaging parts of their special day.

It was nice, i love the characters... Linus especially

I absolutely loved returning to this world for an extra dose of my beloved Linus and Grier. This couple won my heart in the earlier books of the series and I can’t tell you how satisfying it was to see them finally tied the knot.

Of course, it’s as simple as just saying I do. Someone is targeting Grier, taunting her with symbols of her time with Volkov, and it seems like they are a time bomb ticking down to the wedding day.

In the meantime, though, we get to enjoy her lovely relationship with Lenthe. We get to catch up on how she is doing as Potentate of Savannah and how Linus has transitioned away from his position in Atlanta. I’ll admit, I was a little bit worried that I might have missed something by not reading the spinoff books yet. But I had no problem. In fact, I now kind of feel ready to give those books a try when I wasn’t too excited about them before. This world is just too good to let go of.

All in all, I really enjoyed this novella. It gave me everything I wanted and gave me everything I wanted in the end.

Linus forever.

It was okay.

I know that sounds a bit bland, but it was an okay story. The characters are enjoyable, I liked the tying off of dome old plot line threads while showing us some potential ones (Volkov) that may pop up in future related series.

Still adore Woolly, and Keetatron was a cutie. Lethe and Hood are great, but I’m still not enamoured of Eva for some reason (?). Anyway, Clarice, Boaz and Eva are my iffy characters that I don’t particularly care for, but since they don’t get a lot of page time I can deal with it.

Loved the twist, the dialogue and imagery was rather snazzy, yet I’m glad we’ve come to the end of this particular characters series and I’m loving the Hadley spin-off series.

I didn’t realize just how much I missed Grier and Linus until I read this new book. What a great couple, and they are just so romantic! This book was a nice glimpse of everyone’s lives leading up to the wedding. Add in someone trying to get at Grier (big surprise), trying to finish those wedding preparations, and keeping Lethe and her pack in line, and you have a wild ride of surprises, interesting interactions, and a lot of fun. I just loved this book, and I’m really looking forward to more no matter who is the protagonist: Grier, Hadley, or some random person. LOL! Highly recommend!

We have all the players and friends made more enjoyable with the inside info if you have read the series. This is the story of Grier and Linus' wedding.

I would have appreciated more of Linus' thoughts and feelings. I am tired of the quirky antics with food and fighting and such with Lethe. I'm also tired of Boaz.

It was fun to get to know Eva a very little. But most of all, to get a front row seat to the wedding.

I loved this book. The wedding of the century is being planned, but there are a few hiccups such as rampaging vampires and arson. Is an old enemy back on the scene? Will Lethe and the pack keep everyone safe? A nice continuation of a great series.

A fitting ending to this part of the series! I have to admit, I'm jealous of the "pack" Grier has made for herself. And when the heck are we getting a book about Lethe?!

Finally we get to the wedding, which it seems like we have been waiting a long time for. I liked that we had some great sweet moments with Grier and Linus amid all the chaos and you knew there would be chaos because these people can not, not have it. And while I loved the moments with Grier and Linus I liked the other moments in the book when everyone was defining family. These 2 have built and unconventional family with the Gwyllgi, ghosts, vampires, heck even the Wolly, the house. The bride/matron of honor moments were great, filled with lots of snark and food, which we’ve come to expect from Grier and Lethe. Even the groom/best man had some great moments. But the absolute best was towards the end when all the drama came to a head, Lethe had a great speech, Grier dropped a comment a bit out of character but so right. It helped make for a satisfying ending to the series.

Surprised that this took place 2 years after the last book, but it was a good read. Interesting to see where everyone is and what they're doing 2 years later. Still some interesting times ahead, it seems!

A nice dip back into this world. I love Linus and anytime spent with him is worthwhile
They had almost all the important players in this book but it was too short to really catch up with any of them

Rarely do I read a paranormal mystery where I can’t figure out what the bad guys are up to, however, “How to Kiss an Undead Bride” had me stumped unto the very end.

As Linus and Grier prepare for their impending nuptials their happy day is being threatened by a series of attacks. First a powdery substance has been sprinkled on flowers almost fatally harming Lethe. Then several vampires attack Grier causing her to suspect her old enemy Volkov. Wait a minute, he is supposed to be locked up or is he? Hmmm.

Next, the tailor who made Linus’ tux is found dead and the florist shop is burned to the ground. Yet, Grier has more to consider than just the wedding. She must now worry about the safety of her guests as well as the safety of the quickly growing Eva. It is clear that she is a target as budding, Alpha.

I love the world that Hailey Edwards creates. I mean what woman wouldn’t love the fact that your husband has to take on her last name. Yay, for women’s rights. This book has so much to recommend it including the antics of Lethe, the crazy bachelor and bachelorette party as well as the kick butt wedding. One thing for sure, no one but no one messes with Grier or Lethe without the other one opening up a can of Whupass! This series is definitely one to put in your to read list.

I loved the series but I was a bit bored listening to this one. I think for me it just centered too much around all the wedding preparations and the mystery got lost. There was only so much of an inside joke about how much cake could be eaten. The food jokes just got old after awhile. I love Grier and Linus together but with VERY LITTLE outside or inside conflict it was really just details and Grier and Linus talking about how lucky they were to have each other. A little of that is fantastic a lot of it is boring. The solution to the mystery of who was sabotaging the wedding came out of left field with no real clues along the way.

ok, so, it was cute

Future Me, this was a nice epilogue. One thing you like about this cutthroat Society is that it's matriarchal (why wouldn't you like that) but it's still Grier doing the planning. The mystery element was swift and interesting while still being romantic. You'll definitely read it again.
