A widowed clan-chief, a knife-wielding nun, and a once in a lifetime love. A sweeping, epic tale of second chances and forbidden love in Medieval Scotland—from the author of the Amazon best-selling Brides of Skye series.

Gavin MacNichol once broke Annella Fraser’s heart.

After he ended their affair to wed her elder sister, Ella fled her home and took the veil. Eighteen years later, she’s shocked to find herself face-to-face with the man she’s never forgotten, or forgiven.

Recently widowed, Gavin has lived with regret all these years. He wed for duty, not for love. But when he escorts Sister Ella of Kilbride home to visit her ailing mother, he realizes that the passion he once felt for Ella still burns—hotter than ever.

Yet Ella is forbidden. She’s sworn her life to the Cluniac order, and is determined to resist the emotional response Gavin’s nearness provokes in her.

It’s only when Ella falls foul of the tyrant who controls the fate of her beloved abbey that Gavin and Ella’s lives become entwined once more.

But, this time, their fate is one that neither can run from.

Unforgotten is Book #1 in The Sisters of Kilbride series set in 14th Century Isle of Skye, Scotland. Readers who enjoy Diana Gabaldon, Cecelia Mecca, and Donna Fletcher will love this heart-felt Scottish Medieval Historical Romance.

I used to love second chance romances, but then the trope got so overdone and the reasons for the original breakdown in the relationships got so flipping ridiculous I gave up on them. Till now. For the first time in a long, long time I found a second chance romance that actually worked. The reason for the split was totally believable and just right the time this book is set in.

I love this author, the details are spot on and I find myself totally lost in the story.

Goodreads sabotaging me again. With my original review magically evaporating into thin air.

This was good. Not as much angst as I was expecting. Heavy on Christianity but considering the h became a nun after being dumped by the H basically. The H and h were always in love, but from a young age he was already betrothed to her older sister. He married Innis out of duty, but still carried a flame for the h Ella. Not too much info is given about Gavin and his wife. They were friendly with one another, but she was unable to give him an heir. I couldn't stay mad at the H Gavin because of the time period. And knowing that back in those days families had marriage contracts drawn up to unify Clans. Which this was. It was heartbreaking, but they were united 18 yrs later. I don't want to give too many spoilers away because I think it's worth reading. Lot's of thing's happen, and secrets are found out.

Gavin MacNichol and Annella Fraser were once in love, until he broke things off to honor a betrothal made when he was still a child, thereby fulfilling his father's deathbed wish. Heartbroken, Ella left without a goodbye and became a nun at Kilbride Abbey, while Gavin went on to marry her sister.

Now 18 years later, Gavin is a widower and full of regrets because he did his duty but lost his love. When he escorts Ella from the Abbey to his home so she can visit her dying mother, it is clear the passion they once had still simmers beneath the surface. But Ella has sworn vows as a nun and she's determined to ignore the tumult of emotions Gavin raises within her. But when Ella makes an enemy of the cruel laird upon whose land Kilbride Abbey rests, she and Gavin are thrown together once more and this time in a thoroughly irrevocable way.

This book was extremely emotionally complex. As I do with all second chance stories, I struggled with the sadness of all that lost time between them, but n this case that was handled extremely well and with much emotional development and maturity from the main characters and a minimum of angst. Ella annoyed me at times simply because she did such a quick 180 from extreme piety and wanting nothing to do with Gavin (though he deserved some of that, he was trying to make amends and fix the mistakes of his youthful naivete), to wanting to be with him fully. For his part, I found Gavin to be a bit too weak as a hero and I wish he'd stood up for Ella far sooner.

I did find this book to be very slow paced and when the end came, I found it to be rather anticlimactic and I wanted more comeuppance for the villains, making this feel a bit too much like happily for now not happily ever after. Since this was the first in a new series there were a lot of characters to establish and introduce, so I'm hopeful that we'll see this comeuppance in future books of this series and I plan to continue it. Jayne is a superb writer of gritty and emotional books and I look forward to more from her.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jayne Castel Unforgotten (Book #1: The Sisters of Kilbride) by Jayne Castel. 5 STARS! This is the kind of historical romance I can’t get enough of! Every element in perfect measure is included in this fast paced historical right up to the very end without slowing down. Plots seamlessly steer the storyline from the usual cliché path into surprising twist and turns of events.
The story’s creative plots and themes range from; second chances, forbidden love, to “I have the most beastly mother-in-law!”
This is one of the best books I’ve read this year!
The story is beautifully written with a host of character’s masterfully developed and blended throughout the storyline creating a rollercoaster of emotions (tissues) and engaging suspense that I didn’t want to end.
I greatly admire and respect Gavin and Ella in the way that they survived having their love torn apart from each other and forge on though never forgetting. They grieved, showed vulnerability, and strength all with unbelievable class that made it even more emotional for their plight. I recommend this read to everyone.
Happy Reading ♥️

Every once in a while there comes a book that touches your heart like no other. This is one of them! After finishing reading the story, I stared at the title and thought...."It's the perfect title in every way, for this story". "Unforgotten" is Gavin and Ella's story and while they get a second chance, it's not until 18 years has passed since they'd seen each other.

They had been in love but Gavin, soon to be the Laird, had given his father his word that he would do his duty and marry the woman chosen for him....Ella's sister. With a broken heart, Ella runs away, straight to the Abbey to become a nun. Now 18 years has passed and suddenly Gavin is in her life again. My heart absolutely ached for them and I'm not too proud to say that I cried for them.
Amidst tensions between the clans and the threat to the Abbey, decisions have to be made and Ella is forced to choose between her faith and Gavin....a man that has always been "unforgotten"!!

This was so well written and so full of emotions. If this is how book 1 makes me feel, I can't even imagine what the rest of the series will be like:) I, for one, am very much looking forward to it!!

I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I rarely read second chance romances because I really
don't like them, or the authors tend to make one of the
main characters slutty or unlikable. However, I really
liked how this author managed to portray both main
characters. The hero made a mistake when he was very
young to protect his family and unfortunately he
realized that it was wrong too late. I did like the fact
that they both loved each other a lot and that they
were celibate (him for the most part).

I also liked the fact that the heroine's sister (hero's
dead wife) was not portrayed as an evil bitch. She's
often mentioned as being a gentle soul. I HATE
books where the hero is married, has had a relationship,
or has slept with the heroine's sister (or even relative);
however, I will say the author managed to
write this plot very well.

The reason I gave this book four stars and not five stars,
is because the ending of the book was super
abrupt and it felt a little unfinished. We were in
a middle of a scene and all of a sudden you get
the epilogue. I wish there would have been a little
bit more of the couple together.

I am always so excited to see a new book by this fabulous author, Jayne Castel. I know it will capture me quickly and be everything I anticipated and she never lets me down!!
Love broken apart due to duty...a marriage contract signed when he was thirteen to wed Innis Fraser of Talasgair. Gavin had prayed he could talk his parents out of it, but there was no hope. He loved Ella, not her sister but it was his father's last wish as he lay dying.
Ella joined Kilbride Abbey and became a nun. But eighteen years later, fate was to temp her and bring her back to her family. Fate in the form of Gavin MacNichol, now a clan chief, came to the abbey and requested she go back with him to her home, due to her mother dying and wanting to see her only living daughter. Her sister Innis had passed away and now Gavin was a widow.
As much as she did not want to go, it seemed she had no choice, but she is determined to not respond to Gavin or get emotionally involved with him again.
Well, how to resist a handsome man you once loved with your whole being? Take this wonderful journey as these two are thrown together and see what happens!! Fantastic!

Loved this story. Did not expect the plot and twist. A second chance romantic story with loveable characters and a good ending. Definitely will be reading the next in the series.

I read this one for Gavin. He grabbed my interest at the end of the Bride's of Skye series and I had to read his story.

Gavin was everything I expected. He was a lovely hero. And I adored him.

The heroine Ella was a little difficult to like at times. She was young and emotional when all the drama happened between her and Gavin so I didn't hold her reactions and decisions against her. I didn't agree with her essentially shunning her innocent sister Innis who never knew why her sister pulled away from her and never responded to her letters. Worse being that she never wrote back and ignored her last letter requesting her presence on her death bed.

I really didn't like that choice by Ella... But she regretted it. Just as she regretted shutting herself away from her own family as well. She realized she used the abbey as a place to hide all these years and she finally had to face the regrets and all the time she lost with those she loved.

I did like her but she was obviously a flawed human being but the important part is that she grew up. She matured and saw her previous choices and actions to be that of a naive young girl reacting on her emotions at the time.

I think this was an interesting story albeit still lacking in places I simply wished there was simply more of. The "bad guys" aka Gavin's mother and Chief MacKinnon were decent villains but honestly, and I say this more directed at Gavin's mother, but they read across a little cartoonish. They were predictable and pushed the evilness to the max. It felt very showy and over the top to me.

I really wish we had delved deeper into Gavin and Ella's past. Not with flashbacks but with them really discussing it and hashing it out. Because sadly they really didn't. Much of the first half has Ella doing everything she could to avoid close proximity to Gavin and avoid conversation while Gavin attempted said conversation and attempts to bring up their history and even tried to apologize. Ella wouldn't have it. There were so many regrets between them and I really wish the author had took the time to explore their emotions and actually talk out their pain and regrets so they could heal from it and move on. Because Ella's stubbornness about not speaking of their past to me felt very selfish in the first half. She could easily see Gavin had regrets and felt guilty over hurting her and choosing to do his duty instead of choosing their love for one another. The man was torn up about it and just wanted closure but she wouldn't hear of it. That really bugged me.

Especially because when we finally get to where Gavin and Ella marry...it wasn't even romantic. It just wasn't. Ella still hellbent on getting home to Kilbride was still avoiding Gavin and treating him like a stranger. Then everything blows up with MacKinnon and Ella had to bodily defend herself from the villain. Then her and Gavin leave in the middle of the night, arrive at the abbey and explain what has happened to Mother Shona and she casts Ella out and asks Gavin if he'll protect her by making her his wife.

See? Ella was wholeheartedly ready to be back home worshipping Christ and pretending she hadn't kissed Gavin or still loved him. This was 60% in the story. Nothing had changed for her. She would have happily walked back into Kilbride and never left. She had felt no turmoil or indecisiveness over going home after spending time with Gavin. She was confident in her place in Kilbride and being a nun. And so to watch them FINALLY get to become husband and wife but under duress because Ella's in danger? What a disappointment. Like, if Ella had been struggling with the idea of leaving Gavin or more had happened between them while she had been at his home I would have been happier. But there was none of that. Without the threat of danger Ella would have easily abandoned Gavin again for the life of being a nun. I'm sure of it.

So that put a huge damper on the big moment of them finally getting their second chance. I mean, I did love that Gavin got his woman and was finally happy but at what cost? It didn't feel true and sincere.

Honestly some bits bored me and also made it hard to connect with the heroine and who she had become in the years since she'd been separated from Gavin and that was the religious aspect. Mostly because I'm not particularly religious myself so the irony that I'm reading a series about nuns finding love is well... pretty funny.

Anyway, I did enjoy it. This author obviously is problematic for me in many ways as my reviews show. But her stories are fascinating enough to keep me intrigued for now because I love historical romances.

Second Chance from Long Ago

I am not quite sure what to make of this book. I enjoyed this author's other series set in medieval Scotland, so I was curious about what this one might be like when I saw it at one of my book review sites. It starts with a scene that happens approximately 18 years before the bulk of the book, on a pivotal day in our hero and heroine’s lives. They are both relatively young, him 20 and her 18. They have known each other for much of their lives but have only become lovers this summer. What complicates this is that he has had a long-standing betrothal to her sister, one forged by their fathers when they were children. I suppose that's my first sticking point with this book. I just don't like to see betrayal like this in a romance, where the hero and heroine are the ones betraying somebody or something. They both knew their romance would be forbidden, so why did they pursue it? This really wasn't fully addressed. I also didn't understand why the hero, if he'd made this choice between sisters, didn't stand up more firmly to his parents about it. We're talking about sisters here. Surely, in terms of alliances or allegiances, it wouldn't matter to their parents which daughter he married.

Ultimately, he decides to marry the sister, and the heroine decides to take the veil because she believed she could love no other man. I have no patience for heroines like that; it is so naïve! The two meet again some 18 years later when he comes to the abbey to bring her home at her dying mother's wish. There is much past to be healed on several fronts, though the heroine doesn't realize it at the time. Some things in the past, however, cannot be healed. For instance, the hero's mother is quite a piece of work and only seeks to wreak havoc on her children's lives hoping to gain more control over her clan. The other issue that I had with this book was the nun aspect. It just didn't seem right to have the hero lusting after a nun (and a knife-throwing one at that!). I thought the book’s resolution was a bit too neat and tidy regarding the romance and this religious aspect.

I did think, however, that the author did a great job setting up the next book and perhaps a further one, without making it seem too obvious that she was setting one up. It flowed naturally from the elements of the story. Despite this book’s flaws, I am looking forward to the next book of the series as I am curious to see how Sister Leanna avoids her fate at the hands of a wicked man.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Annella(Ella) Fraser fell in love with Gavin MacNichol. He had been betrothed since he was thirteen.
His parents were making him honor it. But Ella had a hard time letting go. She fled to Kilbride, the nunnery, and stayed there for eighteen years until she sees Gavin Again.
Gavin MacNichol is now Clan Chief and has to fetch Ella(Sister Ella), her mom is dying and wants to see her.
It ends in a sort of cliffhanger which appears to be short. But otherwise, it is a satisfying tale. There are some very interesting happenings. Betrayal, defending oneself, and fear can cage people if they let it. I thought the Characters wonderful and warm, except for the mother. She wants to run it all but is not a good example. The writing is even paced and the story itself is smooth and easy to read. I enjoyed it and highly recommend to all over the age of eighteen.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

“A widowed clan-chief, a knife-wielding nun, and a once in a lifetime love. A sweeping, epic tale of second chances and forbidden love in Medieval Scotland.”

Despite liking this story, I found it lacking. This series features a multi-book story-arc, meaning not every storyline will be resolved by the end of each book. I know, expect, and understand this. My issue is that I felt like nothing was resolved in this book except for Gavin and Ella’s relationship—which would have been enough for me if I was satisfied with said relationship’s resolution, which I wasn’t. Yes, they faced a lot of conflict, but they never took initiative when it came to confronting and dealing with it, instead they just kept running and evading.

💘Love Will Never💔 Come Their Way Again

Historical Highlander Romance💕
1348 AD. The Black Death💀 Is Raging in Europe
And Across England.

Sister Ella🙏 has been at the Kilbride Abbey⛪ on the Isle of Skye, for almost 20 years, ever since the 💘love of her life, Gavin MacNichol🐺🔪, was forced into marrying her older sister Innis, by his dying father.

The Abbey⛪ is self sufficient, but the surrounding people and lands, under the MacKinnon rule, are suffering and poor. The sisters🙏 are trained in self defense tactics daily for their own protection.

Gavin🐺🔪 has been Laird and clan chief for almost 20 years, but his wife, Ella's sister Innis, died two years before. Ella🙏 never came to the funeral even though she was notified. Now her mother is dying, and Gavin🐺🔪 has been sent to bring Ella🙏 from the Abbey.

At 36, Ella🙏 is still afraid of her feelings for Gavin🐺🔪. She has been hiding in the Abbey⛪ all this time but She still loves💘 him. The head nun practically forces her to go with Gavin🐺🔪 for the two day journey, and there is no chaperone.

Once back at Gavin's castle 🏰, Ella🙏 tries to come to grips with her dying mother, whom she could never get along with. Somehow they reconcile, but Ella🙏 has a heavy burden of guilt.

There is pressure on Gavin 🐺🔪to wed again because he and Innis had no children. At 38, Gavin🐺🔪 still has some time left and he is still in great physical condition. When he spends time with Ella🙏, he realizes he still loves💕her.
What can he do? She is a nun🙏! Can Gavin🐺🔪 talk her into giving up the veil🙏?

ARC Provided by Booksprout 🌱
I also got this ebook with KU.

This is well written, interesting book about the life of nuns🙏, which was a large segment of the population in those days. Many of them were forced into being nuns🙏 by family circumstances or being sullied by a man. They had no choice, as there were few ways except the church ⛪ for a single woman to make an honest way in the world 🌎.

Set in the mid 14th century on the Isle of Skye, this is the story of Gavin MacNichol and Annella (“Ella”) Fraser. They were once lovers, despite that he was betrothed to her sister. When his family tells him he must marry his betrothed, he does his duty and abandons Ella. She flees to a nearby Cluniac nunnery where she takes vows. Eighteen years later, her sister has died and Gavin, now chief of his clan, suddenly appears at the convent to take Ella back to see her dying mother.

When he escorts Sister Ella home (alone with no escort, mind you), he realizes that the feelings he once had for her still persist. And, before long, she realizes it, too. The characters are well-drawn and there's some good action with outlaws.

This is a well-written story and I was enjoying it until it cut off abruptly, leaving a villain not dealt with and many other loose ends. (For example, Leanna MacDonald, the heroine in book 2, is a character in this story but we only get her problem, not the solution; Sister Coira the heroine of book 3 is also a character in this story, as is Drew MacKinnon, the heroine in book 4.) So it’s not a stand-alone. It’s a series that needs to be read as a whole.

There were a few negatives for me that might not bother some readers. There are several graphic sex scenes (which I skipped and they weren’t necessary for the story). There were a few historical anomalies that popped out at me: colors, such as pink and turquoise, not recognized as colors until later centuries, plaids of red and green, which came into being much later (they had muted plaids but not tartans as we think of them, and married women taking their husbands’ surnames (only their children did). Still it’s a good read and for any willing to commit to the four books, it’s a complete tale.

Unforgotten
The Sisters of Kilbride #1
Jayne Castel
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gavin MacNichol has broken Anella Frasers heart by ending their affair and agreeing to wed her older sister Innis. Ella then fled her home and took the veil. Now eighteen years later she is shocked to find herself face to face with the man she has never forgotten nor forgiven.

Gavin has been a windower for two years, but has lived with regret for many more. He wed for duty, but not for love. When he escorts Sister Ella of Killbride Abbey home to Sorreybrec to visit her ailing mother, he comes to the realization that the passion he once felt for Ella still burns bright.

Yet Ella is forbidden. She's sworn her life to the Clunaic order, and is determined to resist the response her body feels when she is near Gavin. She tells herself she is a nun and should not feel this way.

It's only when Ella falls foul of the tyrant who controls the fate of her Abbey that Gavin and Ella's lives will become entwined once more and Ella will have no choice, but to comply.

Will Ella happily do what is needed to be done or will she not want to do what must be done? And can Ella and Gavin be happy together once more.

Jayne Castel brings us this incredibly brilliant start to a new series that will leave you craving more. This book was awsome. From the minute I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It kept me up long into the night reading. These two characters had so much love for eachother that their story brought tears to my eyes. At first they were tears of sadness only to be replaced with tears of joy. This is a beautiful journey of love and betrayal that I would reccomend you don't miss. I can't wait to read the second book in the series.

What. A. Surprise. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much because the set-up of a medieval Scotland second-chance romance with a hero that had married the heroine's sister first did not sound like it could really be palatable. And while it's true that I can see a few elements that might deter some romance readers, I couldn't seem to put this book down. It helps that the chapters are bite-sized and you can fit a chapter or two quickly here and there.

Eighteen years is such a long time, especially during this time period, but I was perfectly fine dispelling whatever disbelief I may have had in certain elements to be able to appreciate this second-chance love story. Even though regret is not generally a welcome feeling in romance, the way the author conveyed the pain each experienced on their own and between them worked for me as a reader. I liked that Ella was able to find contentment in life at the nunnery (even if it did seem of a bit of a departure from her youth, her personality shown through during different parts and interactions with other characters). There were some elements that didn't sit well, like the description of Gavin's marriage to Innis (that was a bummer, especially since eighteen years IS a long time), but I could look past it.

I'll definitely be reading more from this author.

I'm not usually a fan of second chance romances - but this one is a big exception. I think what I liked so much was that the couple were not estranged because the H was a bastard/horrible or some *big misunderstanding* but because he made a huge mistake but for all the right reasons (honouring a promise, filial duty etc), and he was very humble and honest in the way he recognized his grave error years later.

I also loved how important religion was to the characters in this story (and I myself am not remotely religious). I've read so many medieval romances that are almost entirely secular, and I just feel as though the authors of those books just plain refuse to admit that god and religion existed in those times (save for the cringeworthy yet ubiquitous uttering of 'God's teeth!' by various characters in almost every medieval romance I've ever read) when in truth it was, like, one of if not the most important thing to people living in that period. Bravo to the Castel for allowing her medieval characters to actually *be* Christians.

I also loved every single side character, even the awful ones. They felt fleshed out and real, with motivations and histories of their own rather than being stock characters doing stock things. I especially loved the Abbess and cannot wait to hear more about her in later books.

Wonderful!!! When I think Jayne Castel can't write a better novel, she does! This one is outstanding! It deserves 10 stars!!! It's the story of Gavin and Ella, two lovers torn apart by his family obligations. She joins a convent, becomes a nun and they don't see each other for 18 years. Circumstances bring them together again and they still desperately love each other. Unfortunately, it is not a smooth road back together. It's a rare story that brings me to tears but this one did. Jayne's well developed characters run the gamut of touching emotional family reunions, betrayal, regret, forgiveness and immense joy, along with a few evil, bitter scoundrels. Along the way some characters from her "Brides of Skye" series show up...sisters Rhona and Caitrin along with their husbands Taran and Alasdair, which was very nice. The Fairy Pool from past series was mentioned too. Fans of Jayne's will recognize them all. I cannot recommend this novel enough. I didn't want it to end! I hope we will see Gavin and Ella again. It's a fabulous start to a new series and I can't wait for the next book.

An opportunity to forgive their past and claim their future.

Gavin broke her heart. Annella ran away. Only then did divine providence provided the opportunity for forgiveness, redemption and the restoration of an unforgotten love.

I really enjoyed Unforgotten by Jayne Castel. It engaged all of my senses and kept me thoroughly engrossed. This original story is the first book in her latest series, The Sisters of Kilbride. At the beginning I was skeptical about the premise of this book and of the series. I should have known that Ms. Castell would masterfully weave together her 14th century plot with larger-than-life characters and produce a vivid portrayal of unforgotten love in a harsh and unforgiving environment. I won't give away the ending, but the ending is both happy and bittersweet. As with any first book in a series, a few threads are left dangling to be pulled in subsequent books.

Content alert: Although the swearing is kept to a minimum, there are a couple of fairly descriptive sexually intimate scenes.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

I really enjoyed Unforgotten, Book One - Sisters of Kilbride by Jayne Castel. It starts with a heartbreaking announcement from Gavin, a future Clan Chief to his young love, Annella (Ella). From that point the story is not typical, which I really loved. Eighteen years pass and events bring the two together. During those years apart the characters have changed and grown. Ella is now a nun and thinks of others before herself.

All the characters in this book were not cookie cutter. They were distinct. For example, Mother Shona the Abbess of Kilbride is an interesting character. She teaches her nuns life saving skills that were unusual for the times and very practical. I hope she has a book in the future.

*Spoiler* There were a few special scenes I cannot forget. A knife throwing nun? Wow! I didn't expect that.

I'm not sure how the author can top this book but, I am looking forward to finding out in the rest of the series.

I thank the author and Booksprout for the opportunity of reading a copy of an ARC of this book for free for an honest review.

This is a very entertaining story of two young lovers separated because of duty.

Gavin is promised to the sister of His love Ella, but rather than telling his parents and risk their disfavor he will let duty take the only woman he loves away and may be the biggest mistake of his life. But he is given a second chance after not seeing Ella for 18 years when her mother falls ill and is asking for her. He decides he will go get her himself from Kilbride where she has taken the vail.

Ella has lived a peaceful life at Kilbride and not wanting to remember her heartbreak from the past is content. But when her past come to Kilbrides doors all her hurts come rushing back, and is forced to go back to the home she wishes to forget. It will take a lot of prayers to resist her former
love. But when she makes an enemy of a Laird that resents Kilbride she and Gavin are again forced into life changing events in order to protect Kilbride and Ella herself. Gavin will do what ever it takes to protect the woman he has never forgotten.

This was a great read with great characters.

Thirty six year old Ella is a bride of Christ and she is happy in her little convent. She fled there when she was a spurned young girl, when Gavin marries his sister instead of her. Not that Gavin wanted to, but he was directed by the adults in his life because he was young too. Many years later he regrets the decision.

The Abbess of the convent is very progressive, which she has to be to let Ella travel alone with Gavin when he brings word eighteen years later that Ella's mother is dying. Which of course kicks up old feelings... Unforgotten.

I liked the story, although somewhat fantastical with how church law was bent, but the author herself admits she took liberties. I loved Gavin in this book, as much as I liked him in Caitrin's story. A man as good as him in those times, may be fantastical too. He's been the best hero so far--- previously read the Brides of Skye.

I'll be going on to the second because this book ended up with items unfinished. Ella and Gavin are together but there are factions out there ready to rip them apart. And poor Leanna-- a young lady in the convent trying to escape a cruel clan chief, I need to find out what happens to her.

Unforgotten is a story about loss, forgiveness, and finding your once in a lifetime love after they were taken from you by treachery. Our hero and heroine are older than most books, mid to late 30's, and have lived for almost half their lives without each other. I won't write spoilers, but will tell you that this story has passion, rage, love, pain, and yes, a happily ever after.

I enjoy a book that pulls my emotions and has me crying during the painful times, laughing during the joyous times, fighting the urge to throw my Kindle in anger when the antagonist gets their way, and sighing when finally love is found. This story made me feel all those emotions and more. I was hooked from the start and only put the book down once and that was for less than five minutes.

I absolutely LOVED Unforgotten and highly recommend it. I an also very anxiously awaiting the second book which cannot be released far enough.

A brilliant start to a new series.the book keep you engaged from page one all the way through! It has a story line that transcends time and all can relate too.
Gavin and Ella are in love but Gavin must make a choice... marry for family duty or walk away. He marry Ella’s older sister for duty and Ella who is 18 leaves and goes into a Clunaic order due to her angry and not wanting anyone else. Here she hides for 18 yrs.
Her sister dies and she would not leave for her furneral now her mother is dying and wants to see her so Gavin goes himself to get her. Now 18 years later she faces Not only Gavin but all the misplaced feelings from that time.
Can Ella make peace with her mom and not going to her sisters furneral as well as her feelings that she still has for Gavin?

A must read book. Looking forward to the next in the series! Read as an ARC book.

I just finished the ARC of Jayne Castels novel of Unforgotten. Wow I really loved the 1st novel in this series. I will not leave any spoilers but I enjoyed the trope of lost love reunited. Gavin was forced to marry Ella’s sister because they were betrothed as children. Big mistake. Gavin goes through with the marriage and Ella joins a convent because he is the only man she will ever love. Ella’s sister died 2 years ago and Gavin comes to take Ella home because her dying mother is calling for her. Lots of anxiety on both of their parts, but Ella goes home to see her mother. There are many emotions that flare up because of Ella, especially from Gavins Viperish Mother. She has a lot to say and none of it good. Many ups and down, adventures back to the Abbey and then back home because what happens to her along the way changing everything. Love conquers all?

Gavin MacNichol, the love of Ella’s young life, broke her heart when he married her sister. She ran to Kilbride and became a nun. When her sister was ill, she refused to go back to see her before she died. Now, her mother is on her deathbed and asking for her and Gavin has come to take her home.
Gavin did not want to marry Innis, but he was betrothed, and it was his father’s last wish that he marries her, so he turned from Ella knowing he was breaking her heart.
Fate has brought them back together but, many things and people are determined to keep them apart.
Wow! What a fantastic start to this new series. Gavin and Ella’s story was compelling from start to finish, Can’t wait for the next book.
