Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.
He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.
Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
A collection of crossovers and filler arcs, it's still a fun read regardless of the lack of important storylines. None of the shorts fall flat, but there are a few that shine when it comes to character dynamics. Overall, it's a cute book, but don't expect anything more than that.
Gangsta Guys and Gangsta Girls - What did I even just read? It definitely screams 2008 (when it was made). I'm still processing this xD
Welcome to Fairy Hills - It took me a minute to catch onto what was happening in this one, but this one was so cute and feelsy. I feel warm and fuzzy from it.
Rainbow Cherry Blossoms - NATSU YOU SWEET BEAN. I want a whole volume dedicated for this, too short by far, so freaking cute.
Fairy Tail x Rave Master - I'm not gonna lie, I haven't engaged with Rave Master at all. I know nothing. But this was mildly amusing, and I am kind of interested now, which is likely the point of the being written originally, so, good job! Mission success.
Fairy Woman - I... Again have no idea what I just read xD Could have been a cute spin off series though. I am actually impressed with the more comic style drawing though, I never realized how different Fairy Tail was to comic style until it was side by side.
Natsu and Asuka - Asuka is such a precious little bean 😭 I hope my kid would be like that in that situation. Natsu also having a big heart for kids in this show is so sweet, it's one of my favourite things about him.
Lucy and Migi - I... Again, the heck did I just read. I was curious about parasite before, but parasite Happy might haunt my dreams for all eternity, and I no longer have any interest in it. I'm going to attempt to forget this exists now.
Fairy Tail Stone Age - Okay this one was just weird. It's needlessly sexualized, and like, I guess it's a bit funny in a haha you said butt kind of way, but man that was so sexualized and pointless. I actually didn't like this one at all.
Overall, I preferred the first volume, but I was amused enough that I would have enjoyed more volumes.
The second and final volume of Fairy Tail manga shorts (Only Blue Minstrel 4 and Gaiden 3 are left for English publishing I believe for Fairy Tail which is still a little sad.) Like the first volume this one has some mature humor but also a lot of humor as well some crossovers so if you are offended by lewd things it is probably best to avoid Fairy Tail in general because some endowments almost rival One Piece standards. :)
Here is a quick guide to the stories you can expect when you get this book and if you have not read Fairy Tail Zero yet stick around because you get a free sample of that at the end of the book as well. :)
Gangsta Guys and Gangsta Girls Lucy is a recent transfer student to Fairy High School and although it might take her some time to adjust having come from a private school her life is never boring thanks to her classmates and Mr Happy the teacher. :)
Welcome to Fairy Hills A mysterious request appeared on the job board and Lucy decides to investigate leading her to the Fairy Tail girls dorm where she must solve a mystery even as Erza shows her around.
Rainbow Cherry Blossoms I remember seeing this as a filler episode (#73 if you want to check it out) and although it was nice you really get the feels when you see the colors and memories in motion with music. :)
Fairy Tail X Rave Master Natsu, Happy, and Lucy are on a job. Mistakes are made and two franchises created by Hiro Mashima come together in hilarious chaos.
Fairy Woman Erza gets a new outfit and feels inspired to fight evil. Some side effect happen. :)
Natsu and Asuka Asuka is being watched by the guild while her parents are on a job and Natsu ends up having to do what she says for a day. Prepare for the awws and ahahahas. :)
Lucy and Migi I read this story in the Neo Parasyte M book (I am not ashamed to say I skipped the other stories to read it first in that book) and it is basically a light version of Parasyte with Lucy gaining Migi for her right hand instead of Shinichi.
Fairy Tail Stone Age Okay...Like the first short story this one lacks magic and has the Fairy Tail characters set as cavemen and women but the sexes are at war with one another thanks to Natsu claiming Lucy.
With so many great tales it is hard to decide on a favorite but if I had to choose one it would have to be Natsu and Happy's reaction to Lucy not having a "club-sama" since this is the first time they have ever seen a woman before. Wendy blowing out Natsu's fire was funny too. :)
Second and final volume of Fairy Tail shorts. I was a bit disappointed with this collection, as most were either abbreviated versions of episodes from the anime, or crossovers with other manga series.
