Rate this book
A fallen lady...A beastly lord...And a night out in the woods.

Unmarried and with child, Lady Eugenie enters into a marriage of convenience to save herself and her unborn child from society's censure. However, her new husband turns out to be the rumored Beast of Ravengrove, a hideously scarred man who roams his ancestral home at night, sending fear into the hearts of those unfortunate enough to encounter him.

Battle-scarred and weary of life, Adrian Brooks, Earl of Remsemere, all but flees society and hides out at his country estate. Fearful of an old curse, which has already sent those he loved to an early grave, he spends his days in seclusion. However, one day, an old friend arrives at Ravengrove and begs him for a favor, a favor Adrian is honor-bound to grant.

Will the Beast of Ravengrove send his new bride fleeing into the woods? Or will Lady Eugenie discover that there is a man underneath his beastly demeanor? Is Adrian forever doomed to merely exist, or will he learn to truly live and love again?

Very awkward read

All I could think about through the book is that the heroine was pregnant by the idiot in the first book. I liked Adrian and I loved how they fell in love but I still hate the fact of the baby's parentage. And that was Grant. I just can't believe he sent his child away. And then she said the baby's father never kissed her but was Kind And considerate when they did the deed? What the heck? I still hate him from the first book so that bothered me in the back of my mind. Plus then they all become friends and I was just squicked out by the fact. It's just me though I know but it would be uncomfortable to see the woman my husband slept with while I was dead and who is pregnant with his baby. Just not right. But the love story between Adrian and Eugenie was good. But the secrets and intrigue in the book just didn't feel right. It was too unbelievable. I did like how the children became friends but the whole sharing of the baby was just weird. I am officially done with this series. And I need to forget about it. Even the wife that came back from the dead wasn't bothered about it so why should I be? Because I'm a freak. Just saying....

How to Tame a Beastly Lord by Bree Wolf is a rewritten version of Beauty and the Beast. Eugenie was happily married to Grant Barrett, Earl of Wentford, a man who had married her after his first wife died because he needed a father for his daughter. She didn't love him but she thought she could if he would love her back. She loved Milly, his daughter. Now she was with child, so she would soon have a child of her own. When her husband returned home, he brought devastating news: it seemed his first wife had been found after being lost at sea and presumed dead, three years past. That left her unmarried and pregnant and ruined. No one's fault, but devastating, nonetheless. Until Grant had a wonderful idea...He would ride to see his friend Adrian Remsemere, Earl of Ravencroft, and convince him to marry Eugenie. Adrian was a recluse, living in the burnt-out portion of the family mansion and rarely left it, certainly not to speak with anyone. He barely spoke to the servants. He was cursed. Death followed him. His family had all died in this fire and then there was the matter of his friend, Emery's death in France...his throat had been cut. He agreed to marry Eugenie but it was to be a marriage in name only, he would not interact with her, at all. Not a great solution, but better than nothing.

Eugenie is a thoughtful and kind woman. She befriends the servants and a small boy that lives in the house. She is lonely but not a whiner and she makes the best of a bad situation. Adrian is morose and bitter. He is not fit company for anyone but Isabelle a young woman living in the mansion, and all the servants continue to try. Slowly he becomes aware of Eugenie, and spies on her, sill never willing to speak. When he runs into her and there is no choice, he is curt and moves on quickly. It is a difficult situation. The characters are good, well-defined and the plot is ageless. Adrian is not the Beast of Ravencroft after all, just a broken man. Can Eugenie make a difference? I recommend this book. Reading about the rebirth of a broken person is always a good read.

I received a free ARC of How to Tame a Beastly Lord from Dragonblade. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.

Unremarkable and for the most part, quite boring.

This story dragged and dragged. There is very little interaction between the primary characters, Adrian and Eugenie for 70% of the book. Granted, we need back story and clues to motivations, etc., but after a while it got to be very boring. There is not a lot of character development. The plot is quite convoluted. The real action comes at the end of the book and by then it is really too late. For my part, I just wanted the story to be over. I doubt that I will read another book by this author. Just not my cup of tea.

Not your 'run of the mill' story. I liked reading this because it was a bit different. Intriguing storyline, with a twist. I found this quite enjoyable. 4☆

"He was alive. A battered soul, Adrian could not believe he had survived the battle. Four years had passed since he had joined the British forces, yet he had survived. Why was death so unwilling to take him?" He had nightmares from when all his family had died in England and now his friend Emery who was a surgeon was found dead. He was cursed.
Eugenie had lost all of her family as well and had married Grant, Lord Wentford, a widow who had a young daughter. She had fallen in love with Mille, but she knew her husband was still in love with his late wife. In a twist of fate, he found out his first wife was still alive! Of course, what would happen to Eugenie and her baby! Yes she had just found out.
Grant went to Adrian, his old friend, who had become a recluse and asked him to wed Eugenie and take care of her and the babe. When Adrian realized she was the sister of his friend Emery who he could not save in the war he agreed.
This was an emotion story that took a hold of my heart quickly and did not let go. The wounded hero, so broken he still does not know why he lives and the heroine, who longs to feel love and have a family. Both needed each other so much and fate brought them together. But could they find love? Simply wonderful...

A great continuation of the series! Again, as in the first book of the series, I felt that there was a little issue with repeating the same thoughts, worries, issues...etc...as if needing to fill some extra lines. But, in all reality, don’t we turn our anxieties over and over again in our own minds? I guess that it’s just a little more exasperating reading it from an outsiders perspective. That being said, loved the blossoming romance, the plot twists, and, even though I felt that the character introduction for the next book in the series was a little out of place and far fetched, I’m ready to read book #3!

I have to say, I think this is a contender for one of my favorite Beauty and the Beast inspired retellings. I loved Eugenie and Adrian. I loved how Isabelle played a part and how we saw Genie and Adrian's perspectives on events that happened in the first book.

My understanding is that these are companion novels, but I do think you need to read How to Wake a Sleeping Lady first. Grant and Nessa play a part in Eugenie and Adrian's story.

Like the First One

After reading the fist book in the series I was excited to read the next one. I was so disappointed! It started off great and then it turned in an emotional head trauma of epic proportions. The author repeated the same dialogue over and over and over again so much that I started skipping whole pages. All the H & h talked about was the past, he felt guilty he didn’t die with his family in the house fire, she was left unprotected when her father & brother died blah, blah, blah ad nauseam. Also, the Beast of Ravensmore was a title he never lived up to because he wasn’t intimidating to anyone. The author wrote about it but you only saw it happen once. The two female secondary characters were horrible because I abhor pushy people who issue empty threats. I assume they were in the story because they will get their own story later in the series. This book was a big letdown after a terrific first book.

💋💋

Adrian is in a very dark place, he lives inside his own nightmares, relives his family’s deaths in his dreams .
Even awake sometimes he hears or senses them .
Their screams and terror.
Nothing can free him .
It’s all his fault.
He’ll never be free.
He’s not worthy of his new wife Eugenie .
She deserves better.
So he stays away from her , separates her from his daemons, maybe she’ll be safe.

What is it he’s protecting her from ?
Can his beautiful wife save his lost mind , his soul?

A dark but very good and well written book, excellent characters and brilliant ending.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Slow, slow paced. Our MCs spend over half the book avoiding each other. Makes it very hard to believe in their romance. While their small moments together were sweet and believable, I didn't feel a great connection between them. Then suddenly they're in love and going to have a true marriage? I'm skeptical.

Also, the climax was weird and unnecessary. It literally came out of nowhere. At no point was I expecting a confrontation like that.

3 stars.

Overall a fun, whacky, fairytale inspired read. Lots of beauty and the beast callbacks.

Main complaints: the hero’s tortured inner monologue was quite repetitive, plus it felt over the top that he pushed the heroine away A) because his family all tragically died, B) a fortune teller told him he was cursed, C) his close friend from the war died, and as we learn wayyy too late in the book, D) a vindictive enemy from the war is out to kill him and everyone he loves. The showdown for D is started and concluded in about 6 pages; while I skimmed those few pages because I wasn’t particularly interested, it’s still far too few for that much story.

It’s just a bit too much, even for a story this fairytale.

Plus, the sequence where the heroine’s friend’s sequel is set up — involving a masked intruder who has nothing to do with this book’s plot — was annoyingly shoehorned in.

Kisses only

Cute, sweet period romance.

Romance, sweet, period; series but stand alone read
This was a nice addition to this series. Nice retelling of beauty and the beast. It was nice to see Eugenie get her story and a HEA. There were a few things that kind of stood out to me to not rate this a 4, but still a fun escape read , particularly if you like reading a series and seeing characters from prior novels.

Another fabulous story in this enjoyable series. Both couples, and a sister. in law, and her child. get ready for the Christmas Season, while deadly danger lurked near. Lots of emotion, and devotion, and tense twists, and turns. 5 stars.

It was rich but also I felt like the book was empty and slow even tho a lot happened

How to Tame a Beastly Lord

This is a really good story with so much action and goings on to hold you to your seat. Reads this one slowly so not to miss anything. This will hold your attention right to the last page.

Cringy title but it’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast so I guess it fits. Not the best I’ve read of that tale but not the worst either

DNF I don't like the writing style or the falling in love with one man while pregnant with a different man's baby trope. I may try a different title by this author.

DNF

It's long, slow and boring. At least for my taste.

I've read half of the book and the main characters are feeling a deep connection with barely any interaction. And honestly, it isn't appealing the situation the main female character is in. And how the husband is dealing with it is not something I'm comfortable with. Actually the whole situation is kind of weird and difficult to deal with.

This was the first book I've read by Bree Wolf, and unfortunately it will be my last.

I didn't like the fact that the heroine was married to another man so quickly like a spare chair that needed to be moved to another house.

The romance between the two leads didn't build up very organically either. He was avoiding Eugenie for most of the book, had one meaningful encounter and then... bam! they were in love. I just didn't feel the love or emotions between them.

We were told over and over again the story of the fire tragedy a bunch of times through different characters, and through his own thoughts too. I get it! Tragedy struck, but that was the only thing that he thought about a million times a day. He didn't seem like a tortured or tragic hero, just a scared boy throughout most of the story. It was trying to read and tedious.

Random characters were introduced and took up large parts of the story for no reason, like Becca (who was annoying to be honest, and supposedly psychic, in that she could garner people's thoughts just by looking at them. It was ridiculous.) and the night time intruder, randomly looking for a ring.

Too much and not enough

This book was very disappointing for me. The main characters did not connect until halfway through the book you can maybe count three kisses throughout the whole book most of the book the main character spent alone thinking about the other and then they added weird elements to the book A man climbing into the window that had nothing to do with the story maybe it was the setup for the Nextbook. A man from France coming to try to kill the family it was a lot of different elements but none of them seem to fit together and had nothing to do with the main storyline I was looking forward to this sequel but I could barely get through the story it was boring and places it dragged on and other places it just didn't make sense

This book was very frustrating to read! The majority is spent with their internal thoughts of why they can’t be together, especially from the hero, it was so repetitive. And when they finally acknowledge their feelings (out loud and to each other) there is very little romance, just a few kisses. We don’t even know if and when they consummated their marriage!

DNF. Terrible writing. 80% of the book was the characters dwelling on their emotions. I found myself constantly skipping forward to get to the few speaking lines there there were. There was very little interaction between characters, but just a lot of emotional turmoil. It was a very depressing book.

Change the title..

"How to be a Door mat" . DNF at 45%. I tried but honestly, I just couldn't get thru it. The FMC was so wishy washy... And the MMC did nothing but feel sorry for himself and yell at everyone. The characters were not particularly interesting or likeable . I gave it 2 stars for the writing not the story.
