The ghost who lied by Bobbie Holmes
Haunting Danielle #13
Another amazing book!
Well it finally happened ian found out the big secret. Okay well Lilly told him but he still found out and boy did he not handle it well. Ia. Is a firm believer that ghost don't exist except the love of his life and best friends are in the world of ghost.
While is dealing with the fall out if breaking up with Lilly. Lilly and Danielle and dealing with a ghost that won't tell the truth.

Ugh. I'm giving this three stars based on the fact that I liked this mystery A LOT better than the last one. That being said, why do Walt and Danielle have to be lovers? Also, kinda weird, because Walt is a ghost. If ghost romance, or if you have experienced that, thumbs up to you, but I find it weird in this book. Also, Angela can go to hell. I absolutely loathed her. I also wanted to slap and shake Ian--I was getting really annoyed with him (kudos Holmes). Outside of all of this...it was descent.

I was wondering who would be the ghost who lied and not sad it was the mean old lady. But she won't tell who killed her but she did learn to dream hop at the end from Walt to get a little payback! What a great series.

I feel a little bad giving this only two stars. Most of my problems stemmed from the fact that I utterly despised the ghost whose mystery we were supposed to solve. And I know she was supposed to be unlikable, but I felt she was irredeemable, which I know Holmes did not intend. Also, I honestly prefer Danielle and Walt as friends and partners in crime, not love interests. I don't really sense much romantic chemistry between them. I don't sense romantic chemistry between Danielle and anyone and that's fine with me. Danielle is an interesting woman regardless of a romance. I'd much prefer her to go on as a successful businesswoman and leave the romance to Lily (who actually DOES have chemistry with her romantic partner - despite him being a real a-hole in the last book).

I’m so disappointed in this book, but can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve been enjoying this series, and the last couple of books were really good. But this one? The moment the whole Ian and Lily situation unfolded, I kept reading with anticipation, hoping the author wouldn’t let me down with how she wrapped it up, but she absolutely did.

The whole thing was an absolute mess. Ian should have been grilled for his behavior and held accountable for so much longer. Instead, everything was wrapped up as if this was some cheesy, low-effort kids’ cartoon episode. I didn’t even want to finish the book after this disaster of a plotline.

Hard time rating this one. Definitely a better book than the last one but not as good as others in the series. I hated Ian’s sudden character change. The fact he became so stubborn and resolved in ending the relationship pissed me off. I didn’t want Lily to take him back. I’m not sure why this character needed to be ruined this way. Also, I am not a fan of Walt and Danielle becoming more romantic. Make it stop! Outside of that, the mystery was good here. I liked the family’s dynamic and that Danielle couldn’t actually solve this one with her powers.

No rating because I didn't get far enough to rate it fairly. I feel like after 12.2 books I have given this series enough of a chance, and I am just not enjoying it. It had potential, but I feel like it's fallen into too many tropes and kind of an icky romance that doesn't seem to be going away. I'll move on to other books.

4.5 Stars... Ian finally discovers the truth... with consequences! Well, we are well into this series, and one of our beloved secondary characters has never known the truth about the existence of Mr. Walt Marlow, until now! Unfortunately, it comes at a time when his relationship with Lily is about to change, hence, the consequences... Add into this the unfortunate "accidental death" of a not so beloved character and the subsequent mystery that follows, and once again Danielle and her gang have more than they can handle... Bobbi Holmes puts together a well crafted mystery that twists and turns until the very end, and underlines it with a jolted romance that is in need of a happy ending... A truly entertaining read that provides leads into the next book keeping readers craving more:)

This book made me angry.

Supposedly Ian loves and TRUSTS Lily so much that he is willing to marry her. So when he asks her about something that he saw with his own eyes, something that he has been hearing everyone talk about, and she gives him an honest answer, he calls her a liar, puts his hand in her face, and throws her out??

Oh, and let's not forget he accuses her of being abusive to Evan, a child.

What the hell?

Then he decides he can't stand to be near her because she is SUCH A LIAR that he wants to move away that weekend?

He is immature and low-key abusive. All I could think was, wow, Lily sure dodged a bullet there. Ian will leave and Lily will be heartbroken but she will move on and find someone new, someone who deserves her. See you later, Ian. That's what is going to happen, right? Right? (Picturing that Star Wars meme now)

To make things worse, Danielle, HER BEST FRIEND, tries to gaslight Lily by making her think it's her fault that Ian acted the way he did. Yes, let's blame Lily for Ian's abusive behavior. That's great. Blame the victim. Lily deserves to spend her life with a man who will scream at her and call her a liar when he is mad and cut off all lines of communication with her. Because that has all the makings of a long healthy marriage, especially once/if children come into the picture.

I thought Lily was the only reasonable person in this whole scenario until she flipping AGREED TO MARRY IAN! I nearly threw my phone at the wall. What he did was unforgivable and she should have told him so.

But forgiving abuse seemed to be a theme in this book. That horrible woman Agatha that died at Danielle's house spent her whole life lying to her family, belittling them, insulting them, and then leaving them with the bill for the $35k funeral she picked out but didn't pay for. Then her daughter tried to make all kinds of excuses for her behavior. Sometimes people are just terribly selfish and mean and that is that.

I think Walt is the only one I really like in this series anymore and he is dead. And Evan, but he's a kid so I'm not sure he counts. Danielle is basically useless. She has the spine of a jellyfish and inherits money every five minutes.

My chief complaint here however is that authors need to be more responsible when writing about characters who are in relationships with abusive partners. Ian's behavior threw up so many red flags and giving justification for that is dangerous. We need to do better to help women get out of those situations, not encourage them to stay.

Agatha Pruitt is not a nice lady! So NO ONE is sorry when she dies - not even her daughter or grandchildren. However, dying by falling down the stairs at Marlow House might bring problems to Danielle's doorstep. How did Agatha get to the top of those stairs in the first place, since she's been confined to a wheelchair for the last year! And once she got up there, was it just a tragic accident, or did someone "help" her down the stairs! When her ghost shows up, Danielle tries asking questions, but Agatha is keeping her information to herself.

3.25 stars (Audible). Agatha is insufferable. Joyce deserves better. Ian is an idiot. I hope the next in the series is better than this one.

Book 13 of the Haunting Danielle series

I love, love, love this series. However it is a MUST, unfortunately, you do have to read them in order so that you can follow things being stated that happened in previous books. The characters are believable but I find it strange that while the main character can see and talk with spirits, that the author would write a few more with these gifts. However please avail yourselves with this series, it is well written although this is a second book I found it ended with things left hanging

Disappointed with ending

I gave this a 4 star because of the ending. I think there should of been more to it. I love this series though. It's very well written and keeps you wanting to read more. All the other books to this series had more of an ending and I was a bit disappointed and had questions unlike the other books in this series.

I'm not sure how I feel about Walt and Danielle heading toward a relationship. The flirty and attraction was alright. It's not going to stop me from finishing the series though.

The ending to this one wasn't tied up in a nice bow, but I appreciate Holmes using a different formula in the last few. It's kept the series fresh and exciting. And to know there are 2 undiscovered killers out there.

I love this whole series but I really especially loved this book, although I think that the ghost simply didn't tell any truths rather than lying. The ghost was a very unlikable woman who in life badgered her daughter and grandchildren. In death they couldn't wait to get their hands on her money but, well, okay, that's where she lied but that was before she was a ghost. So how did an old lady in a wheelchair get up to the second floor of Danielle's B&B and cross the floor to the attic stairs? Danielle hopes the mean old ghost will tell her but she won't.

And what of the creepy blogger who reported that there would be a death during Danielle's open house- and it happened? Danielle's own love life seems to be on hold and I wish that would move forward. Much of the book was taken up with her friend Lily and her boyfriend, Ian's break-up.

I can't wait to buy the next book in the series.

The only part of this story I liked is that Ian was finally brought into the circle of trust to know about the ghosts; it was way overdue. Otherwise, it was terrible. The victim is a horrible person as is her entire family. Danielle continues to be a stupid, idiotic lead for the series. Who welcomes a law suit against them and doesn't fight it as it was not her fault?? And it's creepy and pathetic that she persists in following her feelings for a ghost. Other characters are even commenting on how weird & wrong it is now. It's a HORRIBLE storyline that makes the series less enjoyable. And lastly, why does she feel a need to stick her nose into Walt's remote family members? It's none of her business and nothing Walt asked of her - he even warned her off of doing it. Danielle just gets more annoying and stupid with each book in the series.

Okay, I'm liking this book a little more than the others. Maybe because the author went a different direction with the "guest" ghost this time. Can't wait for the next one to see is anything comes of it. The ending dream hop wasn't the usual Walt and Daniel thing. And nobody deserved to become a ghost more than that very unpleasant old biddy. I'm still wondering about the banker's wife from the previous novel.

I was a lot annoyed with Ian for being such a stubborn butt-head with Lily, but all's well that ends well, I guess.

I’m starting to lose interest in this series but I’ve gotten this far! I can be pulled back in easily!
That family, goodness they didn’t deserve Agatha in their lives. She is the reason they are all greedy and it’s so sad to watch. Lowkey glad she’s dead so everyone can start over in a better way. Bummed out they won’t get the actual killer but honestly, I’m surprised it took them this long to do something about her. I really like Walt but the romance seems very unnecessary. Like hooooow y’all gonna do all that?!

One of the things that I've discovered. If you don't read these books in order, you will not know the back stories or who the characters are. Unlike authors like Janet Evanovich, Krista Davis and Jenn McKinlay, who always briefly describe who the character is and a little of their back story when they first appear in a one of the later series, in this series, you really don't know who the author is talking about.

I think this is the one where we finally find out how funny it is that the police officer's name is Joe Morelli.

The Ghost Who Lied hunting Danielle book 13

This was another winner. I love this series and this Author as she writes wonderful ghost mysteries. I highly recommend all her books and different series. I love these characters and love their love story. The new characters in this book were really mean and no love only out for themselves. They were raised so wrong. This world has become like them. So sad. Diana Romano

I am enjoying the series overall, but this one was disappointing to me. The story was weak at best. Seems like a bridge story for the next in the series. I listen to these on audible at night and when I just want to disconnect from the world (glad this series goes on and on) I hope the next one has a better story line and that the characters continue to develop.
Note for audible listeners: It bothers me when the narrator uses the wrong character voice for different people. Happens a lot.

This was fantastic!! I absolutely love this series. I was a little miffed at Ian in the beginning but glad it worked out the way it did. Also I love that Beverly keeps popping up!! I wonder where that story line is going to end up!!! Love that all the same characters are still here!! Now that wait is on again until September when the new book comes out......ugh!! Happy Reading :)

The author did a good job making Ian's character stubbornly idiotic, but she should have let Walt punch the palooka in the nose. This was another interesting ghostly mystery that had a happy outcome for our main characters, but perhaps not for everyone. No spoiler alert here, but mean spirited people in life may be mean spirits in death.

Still loving this mystery series

Ian finds out about the ghosts and Walt but he doesn't take it well at all. He makes some drastic decisions. Cranky old Pine lady is murdered and it's a heck of a roller coaster ride. This book ends with a few subjects kind of left hanging with resolution.

Great mystery book series. Although Danielle encounters many strange things and deaths at her bed and breakfast, The Marlow House. She then solves the why's and wherefore of these events. She is smart, compassionate, caring and a strong sense of self. I like this. She seems to be an adult "Nancy Drew" character that I enjoyed as a teen.
