He’s betrothed…but not to the woman who holds his heart
She’s hiding from the past… Hoping to put the shame of her father’s disgrace behind her, Jessica Brentwood is determined to be the epitome of decorum and propriety her first London Season. All is well until she’s discovered naked in the arms of a notorious rake, Crispin, the wicked Duke of Bainbridge.
Though thoroughly compromised—through no fault of her own—Jessica refuses the enigmatic nobleman’s obligatory marriage proposal. She’d rather face certain scorn and ridicule than be forced into a marriage of convenience. Or rather, inconvenience.
He’s avoiding his future… Betrothed since childhood, Crispin has no interest in wedding the woman he’s expected to marry before Season’s end. The lovely country miss, Jessica Brentwood, holds the key to his heart, though he’s never hinted at his feelings for her.
When they are the victims of a cruel hoax, Crispin isn’t at all unhappy he’ll have to break his unwanted betrothal to marry Jessica. Except, his betrothed isn’t willing to release him from their agreement, and the vengeful villains who conspired to ruin Jessica and Crispin aren’t finished plotting mayhem.
How can he convince Jessica his rakehell’s reputation is mostly conjecture and that he’s adored her from afar? Dare Jessica believe the scoundrel who swears he’s not a rogue and vows he wants to protect her?

4.5 Stars Hoping to put the shame of her father’s disgrace behind her, Jessica Brentwood is determined to be the epitome of decorum and propriety her first London Season especially as her newly married sister & her husband are sponsoring her. Betrothed since childhood, Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Brentwood has no interest in Lilith Brighton the woman he’s expected to marry before Season’s end. The lovely country miss, Jessica Brentwood, holds the key to his heart, though he’s never hinted at his feelings for her. Then whilst at a ball both Jessica & Crispin are lured to a conservatory where she is drugged & he is knocked unconscious. On awaking he finds that they are in each others arms & naked Now thoroughly compromised Jessica at first refuses the enigmatic nobleman’s obligatory marriage proposal but Lilith’s father won't take a broken engagement lying down & throws obstacles in the couples path at every turn. This is the fifth book in this lovely series, it could easily be read on its own but there are appearances from other characters in the series & Jessica is sister to Thea from book 2. I loved Crispin who was open with Jessica about their situation & he must have been rejoicing to be able to marry the woman he loved whilst aghast at the way she’d been treated. Jessica was a very grown up & strong young woman who’d coped with her father's disgrace & was willing to face society. Their attraction to each other simmered but it was their verbal bantering & sparring that I loved. I adored the names her pets had & loved the picture conjured up of them following her in their crocheted jackets! Another lovely read which held me enthralled from start to finish. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

My review :
When found in a compromised position, what the two played victims of an orchestrated setup are to do ...
Mrs Collette Cameron delivers here a sweet and lovely tale of second chance. Jessica makes do after the scandal that let her family bereft of a good name. She is provided a London season only because her sister married a duke. Yet, she does not feel she belongs. She even hopes to have it over to return in the countryside once this masquerade comes to an end. She longs to be accept for who she is, and she doubts it between her name and the dowry which had been setup for her, she might attract the wrong eyes. Crispin without suffering the society’s scolding like Jessica is too victim of circumstances out of his own volition. Why he acted the opposite of her, hoping that by tarnishing his reputation he would be able to put an end to his betrothal. For sometime he has admired from afar Jessica but with his current engagement he is only permitted to dream of her. So when they found themselves tricked, even if it is not the best circumstance, he is happy to propose, he not expected his built reputation to come between them. Even if there is no mystery about who and why they were staged, they must still face some loopholes as their trickers’ scheme was not fully soundproof. It is a short fast read with two cute people attracted by one another and when Crispin has no doubt about what he wants, Jessica must work to give him her trust. Yet she is well aware how a reputation can be build up by only hearsay. I just found the resolution of their predicament a bit rushed, probably because I expected the true villain to get specifically his right reward. 4 stars
For those looking for “clean” reads, there is no detailed on-screen love scenes.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, I also preordered my own. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
Wooed by a Wicked Duke is the fifth book in the Seductive Scoundrels series by Collette Cameron. It can easily be read as a standalone story.
This was a lovely fast-paced novella that had me smiling one minute and fuming the next. I love a romance where there are good guys and bad guys, the latter that you just can't help being angry at.
Jessica, facing her first London season where she must be the epitome of all things good, and Crispin who is betrothed to a woman he really doesn't want to marry are the good guys. His betrothed and an accomplice are the wicked bad guys. Unwanting to marry Crispin his betrothed acts out a nasty scheme which finds our main couple compromised!
Jessica and Crispin are discovered naked lying on a chaise lounge together. Neither recalls how they got there, but they both knew they were in deep trouble when they were found in that situation. Crispin knows he must marry the woman if she has any chance of having her reputation saved. He isn't at all unhappy about it either seeing as he has had romantic feelings towards Jessica for as long as he can remember. He would actually love to marry her.
His betrothed's father has something to say about it still insisting that Crispin marry his daughter and will try all ways to make sure that he and Jessica can never marry. So not only does Crispin have to keep his possible new father in law at bay, but he also has to convince Jessica of how much he honestly loves her and wants to marry her. He has got his work cut out for him on both accounts
I really enjoyed how quick this story moved along and how it kept me enthralled unit the very end. It's ending was perfect.
Wooed by a Wicked Duke, the newest release in the Seductive Scoundrel Series by a diamond of the first water, Collette Cameron, keeps you entertained from page one. The continued story of the Brentwood sisters takes you through the trials and tribulations of life with the ton and the on dit that follows the sisters to London. The Duke of Bainbridge has to extricate himself from an unwanted marriage contract while maintaining distance from the one he wants to court. After events conspire and throw them together, can he woo her and prove his “Wicked Duke” reputation was all fabricated?
There is no other author who uses vocabulary like Ms Cameron. The use of unusual words adds a lovely addition to the wonderful stories she writes and this one is no different. Her characters are heartwarming and the story is a wonderful blend of sweetness and sadness. No matter which book you read you will love them all. This one is perfect for a quick Christmas read and it has no sex in it. I received this book as an ARC and was happy to do my review.
This was a nice easy escape read. Characters were very believable. Story line flowed well. Kept my interest completely from beginning to end. The hero duke was an honorable "rogue" while the heroine was no pushover. Characters from other "wicked" stories are included but this is entirely a standalone volume. As usual Collette Cameron pulls you in on page one and you end with an "Ahhh" and a smile on your face.
Jessica Brentwood was at a ball and lured into a conservatory under the pretense of seeing some newly born puppies by a woman who was falsely trying to be her friend. Jessica is a sucker for all animals and seeing puppies was right up her alley. What she wasn't counting on was waking up nude on a settee with the handsome Duke of Bainbridge lying on top of her just as naked as she was.
Crispin, the Duke of Bainbridge, had come into the conservatory that night and was knocked unconscious, stripped, and put in a seductive position with Jessica. When morning came, they were discovered. He'd barely had enough time to cover them with her voluminous gown and that didn't cover them completely before the people barged in.
A horrible scandal ensued. The Duke is betrothed to another even though he doesn't want to be. He didn't love Lilith Brighton and didn't want to spend a minute of time with her let alone the rest of his life. And now that Jessica is ruined, he has no choice but to marry her instead. But nothing is ever that easy.
This is a short, enjoyable book with a bit of mystery , a couple of fade-to-black scenes, some good feels to it, along with some heavy kisses. I like these elements in a romance novel. I liked that Jessica never doubted Crispin and I liked how Crispin was candid about every facet of the mystery with Jessica. I liked how he treated her all around, even though she was the daughter of a disgraced vicar who was banned to Australia. She was a commoner and he was a duke. He didn't care and he never treated her like she was beneath him. Yay for Crispin! But she never looked at him like he was better than she, either and he never expected her to.
I loved how these two made this come together. I loved them individually and I loved them together. They're strong characters that pull it together despite the adversities. This is one of those times when I wish the book was longer. It was a great read that took just a couple of hours. It was paced nicely and had a fantastic ending. I just wanted more details about certain things. However, that isn't to say it was lacking. It wasn't. I'm just weird like that.
This is an easy five star read. It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel with no problem.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge, has been betrothed since boyhood to a woman he cannot tolerate. He longs to break the betrothal, but will lose several if his properties if he does so, including the house where his mother and sisters live. His best option is to get his unwanted betrothed to cry off so he can keep his properties and pursue the lady his heart truly desires, Miss Jessica Brentwood.
Struggling to live down the scandal caused by her father, a vicar who stole church funds, Jessica is determined to behave impeccably during her first season, sponsored by her brother-in-law, the Duke of Sutcliffe. It's going swimmingly until a needlessly cruel prank sees Jessica and Crispin discovered naked in each other's arms at a ball. Though both are innocent victims, the scandal will destroy Jessica. Crispin is thrilled to offer her marriage immediately, but Jessica doesn't want a husband who's only marrying her out of a sense of duty. Crispin will have his work cut out for him in convincing Jessica his feelings are genuine, especially when his former betrothed's father proves unwilling to let Crispin, and his title, escape his clutches so easily.
I felt so bad for poor Crispin in this one. He was trying so hard to find his happiness and keep his honor and I'm glad things worked out for him. I found Jessica to be exceedingly silly and quite immature. She was a victim of the ton's unfounded gossip and yet she was fully prepared to believe everything she heard about Crispin's rakish reputation. I was relieved when she finally had an honest, open conversation with Crispin and worked things out. I think the villains were dealt with rather simply and I'd have liked to see more of a comeuppance for the former betrothed's awful father, but this was a clever way for everything to work out nonetheless. Overall, I found this to be a charming and enjoyable read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
London 1810 "Jessica had promised to try to conform. She wanted to embody the epitome of decorum. To display pretty manners and modesty. Truly, she did. Liar!" At a ball, Jessica had to get away from the crowd of people. She had not perfected the art of artifce in trying to mask her feelings on hearing some of the Ton's gossip. Daughter of a vicar, now her sister had married well and she was having her season in London. But it was hard to outrun the gossips and their tarradiddles about her father's fall from grace. Her next dance was with Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge. "His rakish smile could melt a glacier. And those eyes... Lord those magnificent eyes. Quicksilver gray, they shone with a seductive gleam that had stolen her breath more than once." But what was to happen to these those as they were manipulated by others was beyond comprehension!! I cannot say it enough but Collette Cameron captures and enchants me with each story she writes. Humor, intrigue, sigh worthy heroes (oh yes, I mean really sighhhh worthy!) and amazing heroines. Plus her use of words that just make me smile.. There is almost always a new one or more everytime! Seriously, no poppyswallop or baldercock here! Simply the best!!
Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge has secretly longed for Jessica Brentwood from the first moment he met her, but he has never made his desire known as he is trapped in an unwanted betrothal. He has tried everything to dissolve the betrothal, including cultivating (and embellishing) a rakish reputation, in hopes that his betrothed, Lilith Brighton will call off the engagement. But so far, nothing has worked and it seems like Crispin will have to give up his dream of a love match.
Jessica has also been attracted to Crispin, but he is a rake and someone she would never consider for marriage – she already lives under a cloud of scandal thanks to her father and the only reason she is accepted at all is because her sister is the Duchess of Sutcliffe. As much as she likes Crispin, she will never risk her heart or her fragile reputation with a man like him. But when they are tricked into a compromising situation, marriage may be the only way to quash a scandal.
But Jessica still resists, Crispin is still betrothed and needs to end his engagement and prove to Jessica that she can trust her heart to him.
This was a cute, sweet story, but it was short and personally, I felt like there was too much going on in too short a story – I liked Crispin and Jessica, but their issues took the spotlight and I didn’t think they had enough time together to form a deep and abiding love. I did think they had great chemistry and if the story had been a bit longer I am sure their characters would have convinced me that they were meant to be. I did like the novella and it is a great addition to the series with mild love scenes, cameos and a HEA. While it was not my favorite, I did enjoy the book and would be happy to recommend it.
Jessica Brentwood was introduced to readers in Collette Cameron’s Only a Duke Would Dare when her disgraced father left the country for Australia. Since then, she moved in with her sister Theadosia and brother-in-law, Victor, the Duke of Sutcliffe, who is sponsoring her season. She is determined to be the epitome of decorum and not be exposed to even a hint of scandal. She unwittingly gets lured into a trap and finds herself caught in a scandal that will destroy her.
Crispin, the Duke of Bainbridge, only has eyes for Jessica and will do just about anything possible to woo her. Only one problem – he has been betrothed since childhood to a woman he cannot stand. He has been trying to break the betrothal without losing his many properties, but the woman and her father are being sticklers (even though she cannot stand him, either).
Crispin and Jessica find themselves embroiled in scandal; though both are completely innocent, it is enough to ruin them. Crispin offers for Jessica, who is reluctant to accept a marriage proposal based on need and duty, rather than on love. Can Crispin convince Jessica that marriage to her has been his dream for a while, and the proposal was not a complete whim?
My heart went out to Crispin and Jessica – innocent victims of two heartless and reckless individuals. Here are two loving, headstrong characters who are honest with each other and do not let their differences in station get in the way.
This is the 5th book in Collette Cameron’s Seductive Scoundrels series and many characters from previous books play wonderful secondary roles. This is a story involving mystery, death, revenge, humor, chickens (yes, chickens!), faith, and love. Although the book is part of the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent reading the book. I received the book as an ARC and happily gave my honest review.
Jessica Brentwood is hoping to put her father’s shame behind her. She has decided that she will be the perfect, prim and proper Lady for her first season. It all seemed to be going so well, until she is discovered naked in the arms of a notorious rake. The wicked Duke of Bainbridge. Even though she has been caught and compromised she refuses the Nobleman’s offer to marry.
Jessica would rather face scoorn and be the butt of jokes then be forced into a marriage of convenience.
Crispin, the duke of Bainbridge has been betrothed since childhood, but has no interest in marrying even though he’s expected to marry before the seasons end. Jessica holds the keys to his heart, but he’s never so much as hinted to it. So when they are both victims of a cruel hoax Crispin decides he’s not really upset, but his betrothed is not willing to release him from their agreement.
How can Crispin prove to Jessica that he loves her and that his reputation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be? Will he be able to prove his love to her?
Collette Cameron is fabulous. I can not believe what she was able to fit into this story. Poor Jessica just wants to live down the scandal that her father caused when he stole church funds and go on with her life while Crispin has a rakeshell reputation that he’s not fond of. I loved the storyline and it never got stale. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Cameron writes for us next.
Such a fun historical romance. Jessica and Crispin are on the receiving end of a cruel hoax which has the guests at a ball find them together in the garden and naked. Crispin is happy to propose to Jessica and get out of his previous betrothal but of course, things go awry. Hilarious situations, drama and delightful characters. I enjoyed this book very much.
Another "couldn't put it down" by Ms Cameron. Jessica's and Crispin's story is #5 in the Seductive Scoundrels series, but can be read as a standalone. (but why?, this is a great series) Forced into a marriage seems the only way to save Jessica's reputation after a cruel situation. But how can that happen as Crispin is already betrothed? I love the way Ms Cameron explores the emotions of her characters and has some new twist to each of her stories (including this one). Highly recommend.
This was a most entertaining read, the story moved along at a good pace and it had very engaging characters. I always find Colette’s style of writing very easy to read and I love some of the turn of phrase that she uses. Jessica had thought about marriage but she wanted a love match similar to her sisters. Crispin, Duke of Bainbridge has always wanted Jessica but was bethrothed when he was a child to a bride he doesn’t want. There are a number of happenings that cause a series of events. This can be read in an afternoon but it is a very satisfying read.
Romance as it should be written by a fabulous author ❤️. If you only ever buy romantic books occasionally, this is the book to buy.
One of the best books I have read this year and I have read a lot, had a favourite but this has blown my mind away. Loved loved loved this story ❤️
Superbly written by Ms. Cameron, this book has everything you would want in a romantic story, will she, will he, suspense, intrigue with sexual attention and lots of beautiful animals.
Crispin Rolston the Duke of Bainbridge is betrothed to a young lady when only a young boy, which he is trying very hard to get out of, enter Miss Jessica Brentwood the daughter of a disgraced vicar.
Can you fall for the one from a distance, Ms. Cameron answers that question for us readers. So much of the story is entwined with these two very strong characters.
I will have to admit, reading one part and I truly was not expecting what was going to be said, and I just about chocked on my water that I was drinking, absolutely hilarious read.
Nothing is missing from this book, every thing you wish for and hope to happen is on the next page or chapter.
Ms. Cameron’s witty sense of humour does not let her down at all, very funny in parts.
Very strong secondary charters, free flowing and when finished, looking around please let there be more.
Crispin has had eyes for Jessica for quite some time! He is very good friends with Victor and Jessica's sister Theadosia, the Duke and Duchess of Sutcliffe (Only a Duke Would Dare), and has wanted to court her since meeting her. He can't since he has been betrothed to a very unsavory family. He has been trying to get out of it since he became of age. It is airtight! At a Christmas time party he sees both his betroth and Jessica. He tries to enjoy himself when Brookemore asks for help, his brother is besotted and he needs help to leave. Crispin agrees and is taken to a room, once there he sees Jessica in need and then is knocked out cold. A cruel trick forces him to propose to Jessica, which he is happy to do. He learns his betroth and Brookemore has planned this....When push comes to shove Crispin and Jessica decide to marry in Scotland but the others are concerned for their safety. His betrophe's father will stop at NOTHING to claim Crispin as his son-in-law. When the group's planning is set (with security) BAM something horrible happens...Twists and turns with a bit of shock!! But a classic Cameron HEA!!!
These novellas are perfect for when I don't want to think too hard and want to enjoy a nice afternoon of short, sweet, and safe reading.
This story was kind of sweet, with an H who had a rake reputation but wasn't really a rake. For a young and handsome duke, he only had a few lovers and I have to applaud the author for writing an H who I could actually bring myself to like. I appreciated that his reputation had real consequences with the h, who didn't believe that he would be a faithful husband and informed him of such.
The drama with the villains was interesting but unfortunately underdeveloped, with a conclusion that was too quick and easy. This is one of the few novellas of Collette Cameron that I would've liked seen developed into a full length work.
This was a safe story, with no real OP drama. No details of H with OW. Thank you, Ms. Cameron.
"Dicked in the nob" used in this story ✔️

I just adored Crispin and Jessica's story. He was betrothed since childhood, and she is trying to put aside the shame of her father's disgrace. They are both the victims of a horrible joke that compromises them. He offers marriage, but she declines. She does not want to be in a marriage of convenience.
Ms Cameron did a great job of bringing the characters together. I was rooting for this couple from the start. There were so many twist and turns in this story. I could not put the book down.
Crispin and Jessica find themselves in a compromising situation, by treachery. The only way out is for them to marry. What is the fallen daughter of a fallen vicar to do? Hold your head high, face the scrutiny, and make the Rogue fall in love with you of course. Love the way Collette Cameron weaves a story !
Wooed by a Wicked Duke: A Recency Romance (Seductive Scoundrels Book 5)
The love story of Jessica and Crispin. Jessica and Crispin was put in a very compromising by his fiancee and her lover. When her love left her, her father wanted Crispin to marry her and have Jessica label a fall woman. Will he fulfill the marry contract or will he marry Jessica? Great story.
This was a beautiful story. Twists and turns are decent. But no love scenes at all. PG 13. A romantic tale with no sex isn’t fun for an adult. Nice story but won’t be buying frogs author moving forward. I need more.
This is another example of the great stories, that make this a brilliant series. All of the characters are wonderfully crafted, and have a really enthralling set of circumstances to their on their various journeys to reach their goals.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read with many twists but our hero, Crispin, was focused on what he wanted and nothing would stand in his way.
I loved this quick reading book. I finished it in one day, along with everything else I had to do. It had me laughing as I read to Jessica's and Crispin's HEA.
This book has issues and needs an editor. There was a painful amount of expository internal monologue. Overall, cute plot, short, but an arduous read all the same.
Wooed by a Wicked Duke is book 5 in the Seductive Scoundrels series by Collette Cameron. Each book can be read as a stand alone; however, they are so much richer read in order. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jessica Brentwood is a great character- feisty but vulnerable too. I could relate to her desire for friendship only to be hurt through it all. The hero wasn’t my favorite in Cameron’s line up of swoon worthy males - that place goes to Ansley from The Earl of Scarborough - but still Crispin is quite a handsome, witty devil. You can’t go wrong with a Cameron romance. Looking forward to more.
The beginning (till about halfway) was so awfully familiar... but I’m sure I haven’t read Wooed by a Wicked Duke before. Maybe I’ve read a sneak preview somewhere, or maybe it was published under a different title? I don’t know, but like I said, it was awfully familiar.
