The Douglas sisters are renowned for their beauty, and their brother is married to the queen. However, he had his mistress instilled in one of the queen’s castles. The queen was not happy to say the least. He was branded a traitor in the last book, and he and his brothers took off to France. He left his sisters to fend for themselves. In this book, he’s back in favor with everyone (except the queen), and his family can come out of hiding.

Lady Margaret was married off as a young girl to a jerk. I mean he’s really nasty, just a straight up douche. She’s known to be the most beautiful of the Douglas sisters, and it’s a good match, on paper. But he’s just a piece of work. She gets pregnant and miscarries three times, but each miscarriage is more and more traumatic, the last nearly killing her. Since the miscarriage coincides with her family falling out of favor, her husband throws her out and pays for their marriage to be annulled. He literally kicks her out of the castle minutes after a miscarriage. She almost bleeds to death on the ground. A friendly servant helps her out and she goes to live with one of her sisters. She heals after a couple of years, and one night her brothers return and she realizes she will never be more than a pawn to any of the men in her life. She dreams of escape. And one night, her brothers push her too far.

Finn is a man on a mission. He leaves to fight and make his fortune, maybe earn some land. He’s an excellent warrior, he’s a happy go lucky guy, but he hates that he doesn’t have his own land. Coming home without any land isn’t how he foresaw this ending, but he’s offered another chance, all he has to do is kidnap Lady Margaret. This doesn’t sit well with Finn, but he doesn’t have much choice. Off he goes to kidnap the sister of an earl, sister-in-law to the queen. But she isn’t what he expected of barren, childless, husband-kicked-her-out Margaret. Not only is she beautiful and feisty, she’s very willing to be kidnapped.

I wish we could have seen Margaret trust Finn with her story sooner. I love how Finn was intuitive enough to figure out what her ex husband was like without her telling him, but I do wish they’d had a full conversation. I love LOVED how Finn rode off on dangerous errands without taking her, and it made sense and it was logical. She would be no use if they were attacked, and she knew it and he knew it.

One thing I love about this author is that you can tell she does her research, but the story doesn’t get bogged down by historical details. It flows well. Using real people from historical events can tie an author’s hands, but I feel Ms. Mallory did an excellent job both utilizing her characters, and sticking to actual events.

I enjoyed seeing such a broken heroine grow into herself, and learn to trust. And I loved Finn learning that his worth isn’t tied to a title, or to money, or to lands. And y’know, sometimes it’s nice to read about a hero who isn’t the most powerful duke/earl/vampire/werewolf in the land. I liked reading about a hero who didn’t have money and power at his disposal so he could fix whatever problems popped up.

The pacing of this book was steady until towards the end. I felt like a whole lot of really important things all happened at once, and they all were resolved very quickly. It was this set pace for 3/4 of the novel, and then all these big action things happened, and then it was over. And I don’t mean that the ending was rushed, it wasn’t, and it was satisfying, but the pacing was off.

I’ve always liked Margaret Mallory’s Highlanders, and this Douglas Legacy series is exactly what I’ve come to expect from her. It’s well-written and engaging, and you catch yourself not wanting to put it down. With kidnappings, treason, betrayal, and love, this book has it all.

Kidnapped by a Rogue by Margaret Mallory was an absolute delight. I loved it from start to finish. This book is third in the series but it can be read as a stand alone.

I don't want to give any of the story away so I will just say it was a roller coaster ride of adventure with a kidnapping, treason, court life, second chance at love, and family, just to name a few. Now, to get the first two books!! I received an ARC and am voluntarily reviewing the book.

So, this book is probably historically accurate for the time period - mid 1500s Scotland - but there is a LOT of backstabbing and murder and political power plays. And, per the author’s note, quite a bit was based on fact and actual history. It was just a bit too much for me. I liked the romance itself between Finn and Margaret, except when Finn constantly doubted he was good enough enough for a highborn lady like Margaret and when Margaret didn’t tell Finn why she was so afraid to get married again. But, my goodness! The murder and mayhem was through the entire book! I would probably even classify it as Historical Romantic Suspense because it seemed like someone was always trying to kill Finn or Margaret or both of them.

The Scottish Highlands 1524

Margaret Douglas is married to a monster! It was a political marriage her brothers had arranged. It was for their selfish needs and how it would line their pockets. This was to advance their political careers, to rule and dominate the Scottish crown. They know their sisters are beautiful and irresistible to men. The brothers plan to use that for their personal selfish gain! As they use their beauty to attract wealthy, powerful, aristocratic men to help further their political careers. They honestly don’t care how it affects their sisters lives as they always are manipulating them.

Margaret’s husband is extremely abusive even though it’s mental abuse. Plus she is no longer any use to him politically since her brothers are traitors. He behaves like it’s Margaret’s fault , as her brothers have been exiled as traitors. So he throws her out right after she miscarried and in the middle of dangerous storm. She is still bleeding! He tells her she is useless and a bad partner! He has marriage annulled and she is done with marriage and men. The only thing Margaret ever wanted was a child. It didn’t matter what the sex was unlike her brutal husband who only wanted an heir a son. Margaret had been living peacefully at her sisters. Until her brother have found another escape and way to return to Scotland with the support of King Henry the VIII. Now the want to use Margaret again as a pawn in their political shenanigans to forge another powerful political alliance.

Margaret is very helpful to her sisters clan and people in the village. They respect and love her because of her kindness and generosity. One day one of the village lads comes to Margaret. He is in a state of panic and horror! He is dragging his three year old sister, Ella, explaining how his mother was brutally murdered by his alcoholic father. The lad is frightened and petrified and needs to escape from this mans clutches. Yet this 12 year old protective brother wants to save his wee sister, Ella by giving her a good mother and home. It’s as if all of Margaret’s dreams are coming true, yet she knows her brothers would never approve! As they would take the child away. She had to escape with Ella. As no noble royal husband would accept another man's child. Yet all Margaret wants is to have a small home of her own and a child she can be a mother to.

Now another political plot is brewing. Finn Sinclair Gordon has never felt loved or good enough or wanted his entire life. His own family sent him away at age 8. He has no title, lands or home. He lives by his sword now his is promised all his desires. Yet other clan members and warrior respect ans honor Finn. He only has to do one thing to require this, he must kidnap Margaret Douglas as some want to weaken her brothers power and position. Margaret whom Finn calls Maggie is nothing like what he expected. He kidnaps Margaret and her new daughter Ella with ease. Little did he know, she was his answer to be able to escape her brothers plans, to use her for another political marriage. Finn who has not fallen for a woman since he was a teenager starts falling for Margaret. Yet he has a lot of trust and self esteem issues just as Maggie does. Neither feels they are good enough for the other, yet the attraction soon turns to love, but can it last? Margaret feels Finn will want an heir and be tired of her in a matter of time. She also stereotypes men as he stereotypes wealthy heiresses. Finn feels he will never be good enough to give Maggie the life she is accustomed and deserves. That is living in castle with jewels, beautiful gowns, and servants. Will these star crossed lovers stay together or go their separate ways? Will Margarets brothers ever locate her and find her? Will the brothers again use her as a pawn to further their political careers? Will Finn be awarded his lands and a home of his own, after retrieving Margaret to the royal who ordered her abduction? A definite book historical romance readers don't want to miss!

I have read every single Margaret Mallory book and I can never get enough! One of my favorite authors on the planet! As Ms. Mallory weaves my favorite combination of true Scottish history with a beautiful fictional romance. As she researched the history brilliantly. Kidnapped by a Rogue was an absolute masterpiece. It is a quick paced, page turner with a riveting adventure, and non-stop action. This wonderful novels has all the elements readers love from true Scottish history, true Scottish historical characters, treachery, deception, violence, murder, villains, clan wars, betrayal, lies, forgiveness, trust, faith, passion and love.

The settings are absolutely breathtaking, brilliant characters, and the dialogue is absolute perfection. Plots within plots that had me holding my breath with anticipation not knowing what could possibly occur next. Swoon and drool worthy hero, as readers can't help but love Finn. He is everything a hot highlander should be. The heroine starts off as weak, but soon her strength and courage delightfully surprised me! Many secondary characters I absolutely loved like Alex, cousin Lizzy and young Ella. Plus a one eyed dog!

This is a spectacular book I can't recommend it enough! You can read as a stand alone or in series order. Readers choice but I recommend you read all three! This is such a fabulous and unforgettable series! I know I wouldn’t want to miss any! Plus her sisters are mentioned in every book. One of my favorite reads of the year! Absolutley loved Kidnapped by a Rogue, Volume #3 from start to finish!

Historical romance is my favourite genre to read…a historical romance set in the Highlands of Scotland is pure heaven. I love nothing more than immersing myself in Scotland’s rich history, and enjoying the company of a Hot Scot and his lady love along the journey. This is where an author like Margaret Mallory ticks all the boxes for me.

Finn Sinclair Gordon, whilst a fictional character, is living in the midst of actual events involving the Sutherlands, Sinclairs and the Gordons. Finn is the second son of a second son with no land of his own. Finn is easy to fall in love with. He’s a fierce warrior with an easy sense of humour and is loyal to the bone. He wants a plot of land and a place to call his own. Life hasn’t been easy for Finn living amongst such clan turmoil…and there’s a hint at the beginning of the book that all is not as it appears.

To prove his loyalty and with the promise of land of his own, Finn must accept the unsavoury task of retrieving the Douglas chieftain’s sister (Lady Margaret) as a hostage.

Lady Margaret’s revolting husband has thrown her out of his home and had their marriage annulled after she has failed to provide him with the necessary heir. Couple that with the return of her ambitious brother to Scotland with his plans to marry her off to forge a fresh alliance, Margaret’s determination to never marry again and her desperation to escape sees her make an agreement with Finn to leave Edinburgh as his hostage.

Maggie is equally as easy to love as Finn. She has a kind way about her, even after the terrible marriage and heartache she has had to endure. As you can imagine, she does not trust easily.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found it hard to put down. The story is in no way predictable and I found myself unsure of where the story would take me next. I really enjoyed the light humour that trickles throughout the book…

“Try to look like you’re my wife,” he said in a low voice.
“How would your wife look?” she asked.
“Satisfied.”

It is easy to see that Margaret has researched Scotland and its clan history very well. I love that there is a Historical Note at the end of the novel explaining where fact and fiction come together.

I’ve been hoping with the recent success of Starz Outlander, and numerous other historical based TV shows that once again, historical romance novels will be hitting the bookshelves frequently.

For now, I’m going to dig around my bookshelves, dust off some previous novels of Margaret’s and re-visit some favourite reads to await Margaret’s next release, Lizzy’s story.

I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Kidnapped by a Rogue.

I recently had the good fortune of receiving an eGalley of Kidnapped by a Rogue from the author. Margaret Mallory posted on her Facebook page that she was looking for a handful of reviewers and I immediately volunteered! I love her writing and she has never, and I mean never, disappointed me! Her newest novel, out today, is no exception.

Immersing the reader into a story rich in Scottish history and adding a hunky Highlander with a spunky independent lady is only the beginning... you'll find within the pages of Kidnapped by a Rogue, romance, sex, jealousy, deceit, intrigue, secrets, hope, humor and adventure. I loved this book! When I started reading it, I literally could not put it down! It is the 3rd book in a series, but the story stands on its own, so no need to have to read the previous 2 (but after reading this one, you're going to want more!)

Briefly (and without giving too much away) Finn is our hunk, who is a second son, meaning he will not inherit his father's lands. He's an amazing warrior who not only can wield a weapon, but can also wield a pretty good smile and has all the ladies aflutter. (Yes, he's very charming!) In his heart, he just wants a plot of land he can call his own, and it is this desire that causes him to accept a request to kidnap, Lady Margaret...

Well, Margaret is actually in need of kidnapping. Her husband has thrown her out and annulled the marriage (you'll have to read the book to discover why!) and now her older brothers want to marry her off to forge an alliance with anyone that they think will make their clan stronger, but she wants no part of that. So when Margaret finally "meets" Finn, sparks fly for a lot of reasons and Margaret willingly goes... and that's when the real fun begins...

If you enjoy romance, and if find Highlanders sexy as hell, READ THIS! Margaret Mallory's writing is wonderful, her stories are rich in details and are just fun to read. You will fall for Finn and be rooting for Lady Margaret and him to conquer all the obstacles to be together. You'll also be turning those pages as fast as you can!

In the future, I need to remember that Margaret Mallory books are always going to stress me out, because this one was particularly nerve-wracking (took way too long to catch the poisoner!). I ended up reading the last, IDK, third of the book (while sitting outside by the fire) even though I had been enjoying the audiobook a bunch!

First, since this is the final book in the series, I need to state this for the record: FUCK the Douglas brothers. Each addition to the series only provides more evidence as to why they’re absolute trash. And this one was the worst (even worse than the French abandonment).

Imagine your brothers telling you that you, a woman of, I think, 27, need to have sex with a 15 year-old just because he’s the King. I would’ve fled at the first opportunity too! And they deserved thinking that she was dead for the rest of their lives. They did not deserve to have her in their lives.

I enjoy mercenaries who are upfront about their mercenary natures, so I enjoyed Finn as a MMC. (Also enjoyed how he and Margaret leveled with each other before leaving). Margaret’s protectiveness of Ella was also lovely to watch (and seeing her brother come back in the epilogue made it all that much better).

It was fun to watch the slow burn develop, especially given Margaret’s abusive first marriage. What I DIDN’T enjoy was Finn’s inferiority complex about his family (but don’t get me wrong, they suck). I wanted to smack him when he first introduced Margaret as little better than a whore.

I knew I was invested when the initial poison victims really messed me up. I hate seeing good characters die, but I LOVE when villains hurt themselves, and the mother poisoner accidentally poisoning her shithead son was delicious. Not to mention the Jon Snow-type reveal at the end (and the very smart decision not to go for his birthright because it would cause chaos).

Minus a star for Finn not standing up for himself and the whole “you only want be because I’ve suddenly become a nobleman” 11th-hour romantic spat.

Kidnapped by a Rogue is an exciting historical romance set in 1500's Scotland. Like all of Margaret Mallory's novels, it is expertly written with well developed characters. As an added bonus, you get several characters from the history books mixed in with the fictional characters featured in this story.

The third book in the The Douglas Legacy by Margaret Mallory, Kidnapped by a Rogue centers around Lady Margaret Douglas after she's experienced several miscarriages, a failed marriage, and a near death experience. She now fears another arranged marriage to an old man by her infamous and traitorous brothers and she plots a way to escape her brothers' machinations. On the night of her planned escape, Margaret runs into Highlander Finn Sinclair Gordon, not knowing he was tasked with kidnapping her to prove his loyalty between his parents' rival clans. Before Finn knows what happened to him, she's negotiated the terms of her capture and escort to the Highlands.

After spending several nights in each other's company, Finn starts to fall for Margaret, despite being a rogue who usually likes women for little more than bed-sport. Finn is amazed by Margaret's steadfastness, quick thinking, and kind heart. I love reading stories with such a wonderfully complex female character, and the men who love them - just as they are!

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by Derek Perkins. He did an outstanding job. He clearly differentiated between male and female voices and changed the tempo in the performance when warranted. His smooth undertones and character nuances made for an extremely enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this audiobook!

In this part the author is not original at all. The plot is the same as in the second book, again a fabulously handsome hero before whose beauty and charm no woman can resist, everyone is at his feet and at the same time he is exhausted from lust at first sight. As for me, why this nonsense? Such a handsome man can satisfy his lust in an instant with the snap of a finger. Well, it didn’t grab me, it’s the second Rory, and since I just finished reading the second part, the plot seemed repeatable to me, it’s like a mix of the main character from the second part and the notorious and unhappy heroine from the first, again the stupidest (as in second book) the plot and the reason why the noble girl voluntarily went with a stranger (and even children are taught not to trust strangers...). In general, everything is stupid, I didn’t continue reading, because there is still the same lust, the same mega lover who brings an unhappy woman back to life and, as always, this author has entire paragraphs from the encyclopedia about historical events, families and intrigues. What infuriates me most is that the author writes this retelling of the facts of history into the dialogues of the characters.

In general, loving and exploring history is of course good, but not creating original books, but retelling it by weaving in an illogical story of relationships based on the constant lust of the main character - this is the lowest rating an author can receive.

Autor: Margaret Mallory
Titel: Erobert von einem Highlander
Preis: E-Book 7,99Euro Print 10Euro
Verlag: MIRA Taschenbuch

Sympathischer Charakter: Finn, Margaret, Brian, Lizzie usw
Unsympathischer Charakter: So einige
Empfehlung: Ja
Gefiel es: Ja

Finn and Maggie

Book #2 & 3 I gave only 3 stars as again as with book two, the stories are buried under so many clans. I wrote down 11 different clan names from book three i.e. Moray, Sutherland, Murray, McKinzies, Sinclairs, Drummond, Douglas (this has merit as did Gordan), Kennedy, MacKay, Huntly, and Glamis. I just finished this book and I can only tell you three of the names and what they meant to the story. I realize there were a lot of clan fueds, but maybe not for one book. As for Finn and Margaret (Maggie), it was a good story if I hadn't had to go back through the book to figure out who someone was who was mentioned maybe twice. If this Miss Mallory's writing style, perhaps an index of all the clans names she uses and a brief explanation of who/what they are the book. This is ONLY my opinion of being too "busy". I do appreciate her use of the romantic scenes between the couple's as some authors go way overboard and so often it gets boring. Not so with these three books. I HIGHLY recommend reading this series as she has a fresh take on the story line and keeps it interesting and different and it flows right along to where you want to turn that page, or stay up reading to see what happens. I really enjoy the style; just index the clans. Happy Reading!

Y lo he disfrutado muchísimo.

Eeeeep ! Yes. Another Doughlas sister.

This is a great series and this is an even better book. I loved it. I know I said this about the previous two too but I really do love them.

Finn is a true warrior and Margaret is just so precious. I am glad I got to read them. The story is about the developing love. It is not exactly a slow burn romance but a passionate one, which is all the more better. Our lady here falls in love just as easily as anyone would expect to fall in love with Finn , me included. It was quiet easy. But of course one most overcome ones on walls before one surrenders. She is strong and am glad the author, in name Margaret too, made her this way.

I loved the added elements of mystery and adventure. The sub plot of Archie is also a fascinating story to read.

The best part is that the author did her research and you can be sure, thus, that the execution doesn't have any faults or it doesn't go amiss or haywire.

Recomm- Everybody. If you have come this far, might as well read it. You won't be disappointed that is for sure.

See you on the other side.

I absolutely loved Margaret and Finns story. Finn is told to kidnap Margaret Douglas. Margaret knows she must escape her brothers plan and when she is told by a Highlander that she must come with him she readily agrees. But she tells him her daughter Ella is to come also. Ella is a 3 yr old that Margaret is rescuing from a father who had just killed the child’s mother. Finn agrees, and away
they go to the Highlands.
As they get to know each other danger is lurking. When he goes to his uncles he finds his family there and Margaret tells them they have hand-fasted. Margaret doesn’t want intimacies and become pregnant she can’t handle another miscarriage. As they become closer there is a murderer in the castle. How can they make a life together and survive a murderer and his family.
A few twists and turns and secrets revealed. A wonderful book with a beautiful ending.

Kidnapped by a Rogue by Margaret Mallory is Book 3 in "The Douglas Legacy" Series but it can be read as a standalone.

This book is a wonderful read since the very first page until the last one. Ms Mallory manages to combine accuracy in historical facts with a wonderful love story, great characters, a dynamic plot and all the ingredients that make this book a very entertaining read.

Maggie and Finn are lovable characters. The chemistry between them is strong and wonderfully written. The book goes from court life to the role of women in Medieval times. Maggie's thoughts and misadventures picture with great precision what women had to endure at that time.

Highly entertaining with a flawless plot! Great Read!

This love story between Finn Sinclair Gordon and Lady Margaret Douglas is my favourite of this series so far! From the moment this books starts you are off on a magical and humorous adventure, where danger lurks in every chapter. The passion between these two characters is evident from the start, gorgeously heroic, tall and brave Finn battles to keep his family together against all odds and keep his young cousin alive and the delicate, but feisty, beautiful, damaged Lady Margaret make a wonderful pair. The research that Margaret has done to make this book come alive is enthralling, she really captures the darkness of this age, the brutality of this harrowing time in history. I loved the surrounding characters too, I couldn't put this book down, it is true adventure and not to be missed!

Enjoyed it

The third book in the series is probably my least favorite of the 3 but still very good. Finn is asked to kidnap Lady Margaret to be exchanged for the young future king who is being held by Margaret’s brother Archie. When the plans fall through and Margaret is no longer needed for the exchange, she convinces Finn to take her farther north. Margaret has lived a rough life and has difficulty trusting men because of her history with her brothers and her ex-husband. Finns family is a hot mess and soon there is so much drama, including murder, deception, seduction, etc. the story is engaging and kept my interest.

Again, Mallory's historical research makes this book work. I enjoy how she combines Highland and Lowland history in "Kidnapped by a Rogue." That said, the character arcs of this Douglas series are not near as strong as the character arcs in "Return of the Highlanders." While Finn's characterization stays more consistent than Rory's in "Claimed by a Highlander," Finn's internal conflict seems awfully similar to the other heroes in Mallory's books. That said, Mallory's author's note foretold more books in the series, and I intend to read them. I'd just recommend the "Return of the Highlanders" as the better series.

There’s a reason why historical Scottish romance is my favorite genre. The intrigue, the clan’s feud, the love affair that always seem impossible, the uncontrollable passion and anticipation, the landscape and the beautiful environment the character’s move around on, the culture of that time period and the people; It’s all so enchanting and Margaret Mallory writes it so well. She transports you to that era, she puts you inside the story.
I loved Finn and Margaret. And my guess is Lizzie’s story will be next.
I sure hope so.

Finn & Margaret
Well if anyone needed to get away from their brothers it was Margaret Douglas and if anyone needed to get away from their family it was Finn. Good Lord what horrible people these two had to live around. I love how they of all people found one another. These two were definitely ready for something good to happen to them.
I was so happy to hear what happened to Margaret's first husband and I can honestly he got exactly what was coming to him! What comes around goes around!

Well, I started this book in the afternoon and I continued reading it till now because I was intrigued by the plot, so I guess it deserves the five stars.
It's not a super deep, award winning novel, but if a book has a nice story, very likable characters, good writing and fulfills all expectations I had when picking up the book,
I enjoy giving five stars.
I recommend that book to anyone who wants a quick historical romance with a little bit more action and a happy ever after :)

It was a bit cheesy for me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Members of the Scottish aristocracy in the 1520’s did NOT say “quit it, goddamn or son of a bitch”

Apart from this, the book is well written and The author clearly does a lot of research maybe I just need something more brutal?

Awesome read! Absolutely loved the depth of the characters and the detail and plot of both the Douglas lass Maggie and her Highland kidnapper Finn. The historical linkages with of course the authors liberties made the story even better and more real for me. Reads well as part of the series or a stand alone... highly recommend.

I liked this sister better than the others. The relationship between the H and h seems to develop more naturally and credible than in other stories. I had been very disappointed with MM knight of desire but she’s come back. I’m actually looking forward for the next in the series. I still prefer the return of the highlanders, though.

Being a Douglas descendant, I have enjoyed reading books 1, 2, and 3 of the series featuring Douglas women. I really appreciate the afterwards, which discuss the true historical figures and then how Margaret Mallory has adapted them to fit her fictional stories. I am looking forward to reading future installments.

And Margaret's story is the best of all!

I really enjoyed this series. The actual history woven into the fiction is fabulous and helps the story immensely. The plots and characters are wonderful. I will read more by this author.
