Greatness never comes from inside your comfort zone.
The Witch’s Cat is a touching children’s picture book about the power of friendship and how the smallest drop of confidence can inspire and motivate others in tremendous ways.
Little Pepper was no ordinary cat but the blackest cat you’d ever meet. Pepper finds it really hard to make friends. Is it because of how she looks, the black cat curse? Or is it because she’s a witch’s cat? Read along to find out more.
This is a wonderful story of hope and how self-confidence can change your perception of the way others treat you. Any story about a black cat will get my attention!
I love a good Halloween book, and I especially love cats! Now throw in inclusiveness and a great children's picture book and you've got a winning mix!
Pepper is a black cat living with a witch named Glinda! She's worried because she doesn't think other cats will like her because she is a black cat (those have lots of bad feelings with some people - they are scared of bad luck!). Yet she's soft, playful and fun! She asks Glinda for some help making friends, and of course her current friends is more than happy to help her get there!
What a lovely story of making friends, inclusiveness and fitting in. And a halloween theme to book! Very cute, very sweet, and a lovely, easy read. Also, wonderful illustrations!
This is another I chose for my Halloween bingo card and my god what a cute book. It's all about accepting yourself as you are and putting your best foot - or paw - forward. Being the cat lover that I am, this was extra adorable for me.
What a beautiful story The Witch's Cat is, I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could! The story follows a cat called Pepper who is upset because no one wants to be friends with him so he asks his aunt to put a spell on him to give him more confidence to meet new friends.
I love this story, it's lovely to see how Pepper goes from a sad and upset cat to one who's so excited to have made lots of friends and I like that it's not how he thought he made friends. This is a lovely twist to the story that gives a gorgeous message to readers that you are more than you think you are and it's always best to stay true to yourself.
The illustrations are so pretty with watercolour style pictures on each page and it's fun to see a witch theme through the book but in a real world situation. The way the emotions are shown through the pictures is fantastic and it really makes you feel for Pepper and his emotions through the story.
I'd highly recommend this book, such a great book to show why it's important to stay true to yourself and believe you are more powerful than you believe.
Salem. Pepper (black cat) lived with Aunt Glinda (witch). 1-day all the cats were out playing but Pepper. Pepper was sad because was different. Aunt Glinda listened to Pepper explain none of the other cats played with her. Pepper wanted Aunt Glinda to cast a spell on them. Aunt Glinda started brewing her concoction in the black cauldron. She had Pepper taste it.
Did something happen to Pepper the next day when he went out to play?

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (Self-Acceptance, Inclusion & Friendship), movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

This short story is about a witch's cat who lacks the confidence to make friends because it is not the same color as the others. After begging the witch to cast a spell so it becomes likeable, the cat has a great day playing with its new friends. When she gets home, the witch confesses that no spell was cast; the cat made friends because she approached the other cats with confidence in who she was. The story was told in an entertaining manner, not "preachy,," so children could draw their own conclusions about how to meet new friends with confidence, as well as accepting those who are different. It was just the right length and had cute illustrations as well.
the one i read ...from KU on Amazon did have a different title ...hope i got the right one??! i love the ending facts about black cats ...this was fun!! "Black cats can be boys or girls but more are males than females" interesting i thought. did u know that "Black Cat Appreciation Day is August 17"???! i've never had a cat ...so i love learning. I hope that Sonica Ellis doesn't mind me sharing this ...because i found it extremely smart and loved it so so much, worth sharing if i do so say myself "Be confident in yourself, love yourself and never change who you are to fit in. You're beautiful, magical just the way you are." must read.
The Witch’s Cat, Pepper, is shy and is afraid the other neighborhood cats don’t like her. After getting a little boost of courage from her friendly witch’s cauldron, Pepper learns that friendship is easy when you’re your true self. This book has sweet illustrations and a nice message for all kids. Definitely a great book to read all year long.
When Pepper, a black cat, asks his Aunt Glinda, a nice witch, to cast a spell so others will like him, he instantly warms up to his new cat friends. Pepper feels confident all of a sudden but he soon learns a lesson upon returning home. Uplifting and positively a joy to read. 🌠
My children loved this book. It is about acceptance, love and self-esteem. The cute cat “Pepper” is so easy to fall in love with. My kids really loved the witch in the story too! She is a kind witch that paves the way for sweet little Pepper. Highly recommend!
A cute story teaching children about confidence and believing in themselves. The little cat is very shy and thinks that nobody likes her because nobody plays with her. She thinks that a magic potion would help. However, what she needs is already in her. We thoroughly enjoyed this book. We love cats and so this book brought lots of magical moments to our reading session.
What a great little story, I loved seeing a witch who was good and kind as a character and who didn’t believe that magic solves everything; some problems solve themselves if you try! And Pepper, the black cat, was adorable and learned to make friends by being who she is without the help of a spell.
I love that the underlining story is to be true to yourself and others will like you. My son picked this out because we own black cats and it reminded him of them. We enjoy finding new stories to read nightly so with Halloween. Coming up this one seemed fit! Very good story and lesson for younger children!
This book is a great book to read to kids at the start of a school year, or when it is more around Halloween. The book is not only fun to read to get kids into the Halloween season, but it also shows kids that even if you appear different from others you can still always be yourself and make friends.
My 6yr old and I enjoyed this book very much. In his own words he stated he liked it because"the truth means more" I would recommend this book to every parent to read to their little one. The book carries a very good message of confidence.
The Witch’s Cat is a great story on being confident and believing in yourself. This is definitely a must read for children who do not believe in themselves! Love the colorful illustrations and the black cat facts at the end!
What a cute read this is. I loved the message, the art work, the characters and the fun aspect of this story. I must read for young readers. Perrrfection!
I read this book with my son and he loved it. The author gives a good message about being yourself. Pepper thought she need magic to make friends but what she needed was inside of her all along. The illustrations are pretty cute also.
Pepper, fun and playful black cat of the local witch, is sad because none of the other cats will play with her. Won’t Witch Glinda cast a spell so that Pepper can make new friends? A sweet story about learning to love and appreciate yourself.
I absolutely loved this book. It is s must read. We borrowed it from kindle unlimited but ended up buying it because we like it some much. Fun facts at the end of the book made it that much better. 5 stars I'd I could give more I would!!!
This book has a very positive message, to thyself always be true! No matter what color or race you are, as long as you are you! Being accepted is big in this time and this book gives a wonderful message on that! Highly recommend.
The Witch's Cat by Sonica Ellis – This was a Bookbub freebie, and it is the perfect read for the fall season! A very sweet cat learns that you don’t need magic to have the courage to make new friends! Happy Hallow Reading!
I hate to say that I just realized that several of the children's books that I've enjoyed lately are by the same author. Her little stories are cute, inspiring, and moving. I'd definitely recommend them!
firstly I love cats so is the 5 potential bias? ya dang right it is. but on a more book perception note, the message was clear and engaging and the little facts at the end were entertaining and gives you something to look up which makes you engage with the book and it's topic beyond just reading it
