Fur, Fangs, and Felines #1

Trouble Comes in Threes

Rate this book
A snowstorm in the South—on New Year’s Eve—is a perfect recipe for a catastrophe. After two soul-crushing bad breaks, Kirk’s waiting for disaster number three to strike when, naturally, two stray cats arrive on his doorstep during the storm and decide to make themselves at home. Tenderhearted Kirk lets them stay even though there’s something decidedly odd about his overly friendly felines.

Out of the punishing weather and full of tuna, Dolf and Tal are happy to be snug in Kirk’s house. But then their human goes outside for firewood and suffers a nasty fall that leaves him unconscious. Now the two cats have no choice but to reveal themselves.

Kirk wakes up to find the two kitties are actually Dolf and Tal. They’re cat shifters—and his destined mates. Being part of a feline threesome is enough for Kirk to grapple with, but soon he learns they come from a clowder that doesn’t believe humans and shifters should mix. Kirk knew those two cats would be trouble. Little does he know the real trouble lies ahead.

M.A. Church is a true Southern belle who spent many years in the elementary education sector. Now she spends her days lost in fantasy worlds, arguing with hardheaded aliens on far-off planets, herding her numerous shifters, or trying to tempt her country boys away from their fishing poles. It’s a full time job, but hey, someone’s gotta do it!

When not writing, she’s on the back porch tending to the demanding wildlife around the pond in the backyard. The ducks are very outspoken. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, and they have two grown children.

Sweet, sassy and saucy, all my favourite S’s were accounted for in this book. Hell, there was even a fair dash of sap and silliness, which perhaps were not as preferable, but thankfully, by the end, I was left mostly satisfied with the story at hand.

The premise features a relationship dynamic wholly new to my past reading experiences with shifter romances. Here, we follow already mated cat-shifters Dolfoon and Talise, as they get quite a shock when they come across a human, Kirk, that they both recognize immediately as yet another fated mate they must/need to claim as theirs.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this long-ago purchased, menage-themed story, but I was willing to give it a try. For the most part, I’m glad I finally sat down to read it. For me, there’s something about shifter romances, of all shapes and sizes, that help me feel the true impacts of escapism through reading. I can leave all sense of reality and logic at the door (in most cases) and simply enjoy the stories for what they are. And, in that respect, this story was no different.

Although, for reasons relating to the writing style and the pacing, as well as the sometimes-stilted dialogue, this turned out to be a bit of middle-ground fare for me. Which is completely fine—we can’t love them all, nor should we.

I will say, the second half of the story was much more in tune with my mood and preferences, focusing less on the new-mates ‘claiming and bonding’ stuff, that the first half of the story was overloaded with, and, instead, focused more on the larger pack (or clowder, as it were) dynamics and the wider shifter reaction to a human (Kirk) mating with a future alpha (Dolf), where prejudices were rife and quite literally resulted in some danger and excitement for this newly mated throuple.

As I said, I liked the second half better than the first half, which dragged on unnecessarily for me, but I did like how equally the three men felt the mate-pull and the importance of the different roles they each played within that dynamic—even human Kirk, to a degree he couldn’t quite explain or accept until he learned about the existence of shifters and mates and what it meant to bond with two shapeshifting men. In this respect, it was easy to embrace Kirk, Dolf and Tal as individual characters and as lovers, because the author did a really good job of making it feel like they were all on equal ground, not only emotionally, but also where their individual sexual needs and urges were concerned.

Although I liked this more than I loved it, I’m still intrigued enough by these cat-shifters and their clowder to perhaps returns for the sequels, which chronicle the lives and loves of each of Dolf’s beta friends.

Menages are always a tricky thing for me. Balance is very important when I read one and if one of the partners feel an imbalance in the situation I can’t help but focus on that as well. Everyone has to bring something to the relationship but they also need to get something out of it as well. I’m not a fan of any variation of menage where two partners revolve around one like satellites. Happily this story clicked for me and had balance and chemistry on a lot of levels.

We meet cat shifter mates Dolf and Tai who quite by accident run into a human who is their third. They follow him home and get to know him in their cat forms. I found that whole situation adorable. I don’t have a cat but those two as cats just won me right over. I also loved seeing their cats come through when they were in human form. After reading this I feel that I could easily translate all their meowing. I had a lot of fun reading it. I liked all the characters and there’s even one with my name!! Heller, who may or may be the bad guy. (No spoilers!)

Kirk, Dolf and Tai really worked for me. All very distinctive guys and the chemistry between the three of them was hot but it was also really sweet. I liked that each of them enjoyed different things from each other. I loved the shifter world created although the chef in me kept reading clowder as chowder, which, as you can imagine was quite distracting. I also found Dolf’s full name a bit odd and could understand why he seldom used it. I did find that the villain was a bit of red herring but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the fallout even if I wasn’t able to guess who might be attacking Kirk. This was fun, fun read for me. I hope it’s a series because I want Remi’s story as well as a few of the other cats that we met.

Hmm. Insta-love story with a lot of everyday cooking, eating and sleeping details. Not for me, and no way near how I adored M.A Church's 'Taken'. The beginning of Trouble Comes in Threes was the best part. The way the pairing first came together was cute and with well balanced threesome smexy scenes.

This was a seriously hot take on a shifter story. I loved that the authors used kit kats for the shifters and she captured their feline sides so well. It was fun to read the interactions between Kirk as a human and Dolf and Tal as cats.

I'm usually not a huge fan of shifter stories because of the insta love and high drama. I'm totally generalizing here, but I know you know what I mean. Trouble Comes in Threes was different though. The first half of the book was all about the connection between the characters and while there was the "mate" attraction going on, Dolf and Tal got to know Kirk and vice versa. They fucked A LOT which you expect from shifters, but their connections evolved pretty organically and through their conversations I learned about their society without getting an overwhelming information dump.

The conflict came along and it was relatively simple and focused. I mean that in a really good way. The story stayed centered on one issue and the characters. And the story was so much better for it.

Also, did I mention it was hot? Damn.

01/12/16 ETA: I just tried the audio on this one and if it's in your wish list, delete it. It's so, so, so not good. I didn't even make it halfway through the first chapter. So bummed!

This book is the first in what appears to be a series about cat shifters finding their mates.

In this first book, we meet Dolf(oon) and Tal(ise), a mated shifter pair, scenting Kirk, a human, in a home improvement store. They know immediately that he's their mate, for both of them, and while threesomes in their world are rare, they're not unheard of.

Except Kirk is a human, so permissions must be obtained from their Alpha (Dolf's father) and some other higher-uppers. Meanwhile, they sort of stalk Kirk and figure out where he lives, as well as run a background check, because human.

From the start, there is an undertone of racism on the shifter side, and some clowder (pack) members are outraged that Dolf and Tal intend to mate with this human. As if human is a four-letter word.

Dolf and Tal appear on Kirk's doorstep as cats during a winter storm and make themselves right at home. I really liked the initial interactions between them, including the part where Kirk gets hurt outside and the two cats have to come clean about what/who they are. Mating bonds get explained, and the mating takes place.

It was fascinating to see that each of the men brought something special to the relationship, and while menages can be tricky, it really worked out here, with Kirk giving both Tal and Dolf something they'd been missing before. Both Dolf and Tal also give something to Kirk that either is uniquely able to provide. Very well done on the author's part.

Of course, racism doesn't die just because the human is now not so human anymore, and there are some tense situations in which Kirk is confronted with prejudice from other clowder members.

I liked that the author included this very human topic, and made it part of her supernatural world, to allow the reader to draw parallels.

The story is also rather well-balanced between action between the sheets and the prospering relationship, and real action when Kirk is viciously attacked by a shifter and the men have to fight off a threat to their lives.

While the reason given for this threat seemed a bit far-fetched, it was at least somewhat explainable in the strained relationship between shifters and humans, and the disdain many shifter had for the humans they interact with. The viciousness of the attack could however only be explained with lunacy on the part of the attacker, and I simply took it for what it was.

The important clowder members are also nicely integrated into the plotline, and each was given a different personality, with Remi being much more open toward Kirk, and Heller being on the opposite side of that spectrum. It would be rather nice if Heller were given a human mate as well, just to see how'd he like it if the shoe's on the other foot. If mates are truly a gift, as Dolf and Tal assert, then I'd like to know what Heller's problem is.

Overall, this seemed to be a nice start to a new series, and I look forward to the next one.

Cute, sexy paranormal menage and not insta-love! New-to-me author and I surprisingly enjoyed this story and this menage is believable.

Established couple Dolph - next Alpha and Tal scent another mate at the local Lowes and proceed to get permission to court loner human Kirk. They show up in their cat form one snowy night and Kirk proceeds to feed them and then name them. The cat's out of the bag, so to speak, when Kirk slips on the ice bringing wood for the fire in and clocks himself with a log.

I liked that their Clowder had no issue with the next Alpha and his mate and then third mate being gay. I know you've read those paranormal stories where they have to fight to be together because the Alpha is supposed to be with a woman to breed.

AS the story progresses, we find many instances where their fated connection is to be, all they have to do cement their their connection - and I think it was established quite nicely, strengths matching weaknesses.

I'll be looking for more from this author.

1.5 Stars for Narration

Belens Audio Book Review

It makes me unbelievably sad to give this rating - because the story is fun, sexy, dynamic, and definitely worth 4 stars - but the narration was HORRIBLE. I feel terribly that the author's very good, very interesting, and very well envisioned work was showcased as badly as it was by Ronald Ray Strickland's narration.

oooooh

Yes, I said it. The narration is all capitals BAD. Strickland's timing, lack of character voice delineation, the editing, hell...everything was bad. It was like Strickland has never read a book aloud before, but got put in a sound booth and told to go crazy, and someone was hoping it might pay off. Well, guess what? It did not pay off. Strickland has odd times where he doesn't enunciate particularly well, but then will suddenly over-enunciate. His speech is halting and then flows almost unnaturally. Also, there were too many times where the audio was badly edited/spliced and suddenly the sound would explode.

doing everything all wrong

Now was it abysmal? No. I've heard worse and, luckily, the story itself saves it from being completely unlistenable. I kept listening because I really wanted to know what happens with Dolf, Tal and Kirk. But I would not recommend anyone get the audio for this.

I would definitely recommend the story - just not the audio.

Okay, I really wanted to like this one. I love shifter stories, I love fated mate stories, I love threesomes, and I thought the premise itself sounded adorable.

This story should have ticked all my boxes, but there were just too many things that bugged me:

- the change of tense was incredibly distracting. I don't mind changes in character perspective, but switching from first person tense to third person tense and back again was annoying as hell.

- I will buy into the premise of 'Trouble comes in threes' as a plot device, but not if the first two things are being dumped by someone a year ago, and some appliances breaking in the house between then and now, indicating bad luck is just around the corner. The saying is a staple because it implies numerous things going wrong quickly, not unexpected repair work eventually following the ending of a relationship ages ago.

- a concussion is not the same as a headache. If Kirk really did have a concussion, he would have blurred vision, be throwing up everywhere, and would be suffering from affected memory retention (meaning he would be asking the same questions over and over because he wouldn't remember he had asked them). He would not be able to wake up, enjoy a blowjob and then have an in-depth life-altering discussion about his now changed perception of the world, which suddenly contains an awareness of paranormal creatures. He would also have the opposite problem of being unable to sleep. In fact, any Hollywood movie can tell you that you have to keep people with concussions from FALLING asleep, because that's all they want to do. The fact the author described nausea and dizziness as symptoms later on only made this more aggravating.

- cats are not interchangeable with wolves. Despite the number of times the characters themselves pointed this out, I'm not sure the author in fact knows this. Cats do not have alphas, betas and omegas because cats do not live in packs. There is only one type of feline in existence that even have a semi-pack like structure, and that is lions. Lions do not have an alpha, and despite what popular culture tries to make you think about male lions, they are not Kings of the Jungle but actually pretty much essentially glorified bouncers. The females decide where the pride travels, when they go hunting, actually DO all the hunting, raise the cubs and look after the pride. The male is there solely to fight other males. That's it.
Domestic cats can live with other cats, but it goes against their nature - even if they seem to be getting along, it's more like they are two equally matched fighters who probably couldn't take the other out without severe damage to themselves, and there is no need anyway because there is ample food and shelter (and a handy human who waits on them hand and foot). It is only through thousands of years of domesticity that house cats have reached even this level of tolerance.

- you can't come in your jeans if you're wearing pajama pants. The editor should have picked this up, since the two sentences are only a paragraph apart.

- no dick biting. Ever. A bleeding cock is the opposite of sexy. Just, no. I stopped reading this novel after it happened for the second time. Nope, nope nope.

Despite the relative ease of acceptance once Kirk was presented with housecat shifters, mates, bonding and a menage I enjoyed this mostly sweet, fun story. The dynamics and chemistry between the three men were good and each filled a role in the relationship. The secondary characters in the clowder were well defined, and although the villain in the story did seem to come out of left field, I did enjoy the action of the last part of the story. Overall it was a fun, quick, sexy read.

3.5 - 4.0. I still don't know... LOL but i'm rounding it to four stars.

This is the fourth book that Bucletina and I read together, and it's funny because while the blurb caught our eye, what really made us pick this book was the kitties in the cover. LOL. I think neither of us were sure of what we really were getting into, and we also weren't sure of what we really were expecting of this book - except for cat shifters, lots of cuteness, and something rather sexy-.. Turns out that the book surprised us!.

The book opens with Dolf and Tal, (our two sexy cat shifters), running some errands at a store. Dolf and Tal have been mated for many years, and are deeply in love with each other. As they are in the store they pick a new scent, a mate scent. They realize that they are both mated to this other person, but there is a tiny problem, this person is literally a person, he his human, not a shifter. They decide to follow their mate, and find out who he is, and where to find him so they can "claim" him, once they get the permission to do it. They find out that his name is Kirk. Once they get the permission they need to go after their man, they shift into their cat forms and visit him at home... And of course, who can resist two little kitties???? No one. Well, not Kirk, anyway.

Long story short, Kirk has an accident outside his home and the two shifters have to reveal themselves in order to help him and take care of him. Kirk's reaction was realistic. The initial disbelief and distrust was expected. I also liked how Kirk took the risk of starting a relationship with this two men. And here, I come to a very important point, for me, anyway. I've read a few books featuring threesomes, and most of the times I'm left feeling... Incomplete, if that makes any sense. Normally, there is this feeling that while all three parts are attracted to each other, they are not really equally invested in each other, and at some point I end up feeling like one of them is not loved or valued as much as the other two. It just happens; the feeling of having a favorite, even if the claim is that they love each other equally. I am happy to tell you that I didn't get this feeling once... Not Once, in the whole book. It was weird, because I *knew* that the two shifters had been together for a very very long time, and I *thought* that would be a disadvantage to Kirk, but it wasn't. The flow there was really nice, and mostly natural. The only part where I felt that it seemed a bit forced was in the beginning of the "mating process", but then things got this really nice flow, and it was very cool to read it.

The characters complement each other wonderfully, and this was clear in many passages in the book. It was also mentioned here and there by the main characters, and the secondary characters -- Speaking of which: they were great. I really liked them and it was great to see that they were actually needed in and for the plot.

The book also brings things like racism, and distrust between races, and I think that it was worked very nicely. It seemed realistic in the context of the book, but also, reflected a reality that we are living.

Through the story we get to read all three POV, which was also nice, and helped to understand the characters better. It was surprising to see a shifters book, featuring cats, and find an attractive mix between sweet and tough. I say this because, normally, when I think of shifters I think of aggressive and tough men, you know?, and here I got *that* plus many cute and sweet moments.

There were nice ideas in this book, like the human not really being human anymore after he's mated a shifter, even though he'll never shift. The idea of the mates being chosen by a goddess was also cool. The fact that a mate is extremely important and should be respected by everyone, not just the mate.

While overall I enjoyed this, I think that in the end, I liked the second half best. There was more action, and I think it was more balanced. The first part was very sweet and hot, but it moved rather slow, so I found myself much more invested into the second part of the book. The action was great, and the identity of the attacker really took me by surprise... I really never even considered that option.

The only think that left me feeling a bit uncomfortable is *how* the mating process started. Kirk was definitely in a not very conscious state, and while he wanted what happened between them, he didn't *know* what was happening. In the end it worked out for the best because it turned out that he was willing to get on with the whole thing, but I still wish he'd been notified first LOL.

Nice read!! Bucletina and I were very happy to have picked this one! :)

"We shifters are speciecist. Well, at least most of us. Some less than others, true. We don´t trust anyone who isn´t paranormal, and some paranormals we like better than others. We´re just as afraid of anything different from us as the humans. Being secretive is one thing. Being racist is another. This is what Jews fought against, what African-American and GLBT people have been fighting for years. We´ve let this go too far"

"How, as a species, did we get so off track?"

Didn't like it. The characters had little personality and depth. You had the typical Dominant of the three, the total bottom and the one in between. Nothing new. Next domesticated cat shifters. That's new but Church had them acting like dogs and big cats. Like how the fuck do you get fatally injured by a house cat. If you're gonna write about cats write about cats, if you're gonna write about dogs, then write about dogs. Don't mix the two. And seriously all this drama over a predictable person? Just ugh. This story is puking up cliches left and right. The characters fall for each other in the first two chapters and Kirk just accepts he's scared but willing at the same time? Bullshit. Terrible story, plot, and characters. Woefully unoriginal to boot. Don't waste time or money on this.

Took a while to get into it. Not sure if it was me or the book but I couldn't focus in the beginning and the info dump got glossed over. Back to the times where shifters didn't magically transform with clothes. It sounded painful. There was a lot of human hate. The Carson thing felt open ended. I liked Remi. Quite a bit of sex and attack attempts. I'm surprised the culprit wasn't discovered sooner. It was alright. I might give the next one a go.

A copy of this book was provided by Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a total sucker for shifter stories. Especially the fated mates kind. So this book appealed to me right away. I liked that while Kirk was a bit freaked out to learn the stray cats he found are actually shifters and his mates, he also feels inexplicably drawn to them. So his acceptance of the paranormal world he’s just been thrown into is pretty quick.

Some of my favorite scenes are the ones where Kirk watches Tal and Dolf play as cats. I haven’t read too many books where you see the simple joy of the animal side at play in a shifter. Maybe because most of what I’ve read is wolves - predators, and not house animals, but they were such happy scenes. I smiled the most while reading them. Ms. Church really captured the essence of cats at play, yet at the same time allowed their human side to peek through in their interactions with Kirk.

Some authors get caught up in building their paranormal or fantasy world. Others don’t explain anything and expect readers to just get it. Ms. Church gives us just enough to carry the story forward and let us understand the characters’ actions and motives. In this world of cat shifters, humans are not welcome. They are not trusted. It is a pretty strong prejudice against the species. So when Dolf and Tal realize they have another mate and he is human, they don’t get the reception they expected when they tell the clowder they want to claim their human mate.

Kirk carries a recessive gene that gains him some of his mates’ paranormal abilities. But although once claimed he is no longer a pure human, he still isn’t a shifter and many of his new Clowder do not completely accept him as one of them. Even if he is mated to the next Alpha. So herein lies the trouble. Someone is after Kirk, because he’s human, or because he’s mated to the next Alpha. That’s what they must figure out before it’s too late.

This book had just enough action and mystery to keep me curious. I wasn’t expecting the outcome and I liked that it wasn’t so obvious. And as I mentioned, I loved the scenes where Tal and Dolf were cats.

The one thing I didn’t care for was the amount of sex in this story. I felt there was just a tad too much. There really is a lot of sex here. And while it is explained that shifter libido is high, I’m not sure I needed to see it as much. I enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong. But I enjoyed the actual shifter parts of the story just as much and would have like to see more of that and less time in the bedroom.

Again, I’m a sucker for fated mates shifters so this book was a huge success for me.

Ready for an exciting shifter book to start your year of reading off right? Trouble Comes in Threes is a cat-shifter story, an MMM ménage, and a thrilling mystery to solve as well.

Kirk is reaching middle age, feeling bad about his looks and his inability to find a steady relationship. Into his life comes, not a man, but two stray cats, seeking shelter from a snowstorm. Or so Kirk thinks. Dolf, the black kitty, and Tal, the white one, are planning to watch Kirk for a while before revealing the paranormal world, and their role in it, to him. They recognized Kirk as their mate while on a shopping trip, much to their own surprise and certainly an unexpected life twist for Kirk. When Kirk is injured bringing in firewood they have no choice but to change their plans in order to get him to safety.

It takes a bit of time to get Kirk to realize he isn't having an hallucination as he lays dying from his minor injury, but Tal's lustful impatience when Kirk, thinking he's dreaming, tells Tal to love him up, starts a process that will only result in a DNA conversion for Kirk that leads him to becoming not quite human, but not a cat-shifter either. In for a penny, in for a pound, there is nothing to do but go forward, and so the ménage begins. And this is only the beginning. There is a lot of hot sex that could set the place on fire, let me tell you.

Unfortunately, although Dolf and Tal love their human partner, not everyone in the kitty clowder (what wolves would call a pack) where Dolf is the alpha-to-be feels the same way. Someone makes his dislike of humans known and either that shifter or someone else is out to do serious harm to Kirk and perhaps others. Can they discover the identity of the attacker in time to thwart his plans? And is Kirk the real target? You'll have to read this exciting book to find out.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

This book was a bit of fun that I really enjoyed and had me smiling. I love shifters but have to admit the word usually makes me think of big aggressive wolves and not little pussycats with a propensity to purr and meow.

Dolf and Tal are cat shifters and have been happily mated for years with Dolf being next in line to be Alpha in his Clowder. Imagine their surprise when out shopping they catch hold of a mating scent and their confusion when they discover the scent is coming from a human. It seems the goddess has a surprise in store for them.

Kirk’s life seems to be following a pattern at the moment. He is lurching from one disaster to another, what he doesn’t expect when it starts snowing heavily is for two cats to take shelter in his home and change his perception of the world as he thought he knew it. Paranormals exist and he has two cat shifters in his home claiming to be his mates and wanting forever with him.

The second part of the book moves along more quickly than the first and once Kirk has wrapped his mind around the two unusual men/cats in his home he is all too eager to give up his boring and dull existence, in a house he has never thought of as home, and move in with Dolf and Tal and become part of their lives.

Not everyone is happy about the two cats mating a human and there is added mystery as Kirk’s life appears to be in danger. Dolf with his alpha tendencies is keen to protect his mates but first they must work out who is threatening them and why.

These three men complimented each other and each gave the other two men what they needed. Ménage can be tricky sometimes but this was a great balance and the men worked well with each other. There were some great secondary characters in the story and I hope we get to see more of them in the future.

So I will start of this review with this book was so good!!!!

I have never read about Cat shifters before and I loved it! Now I am not talking about big cat shifters either like lions, or Jaguars. In this book you get Domestic size cat shifters which I loved!
So Dolf and Tal who are mated go shopping for power tools for Dolf's father the Alpha of their chowder when they catch the scent of their mate Kirk who is in the same aisle as them.. Lets just say from that point on it was on and cracking! The way Dolf and Tal brought Kirk into their fold and their pack with so much love and care. I honestly loved the three of them together I thought the way they made sure everything was equal between them in the ménage and how they all centered each other. The way the author wrote this was honestly amazing because you felt like you were there with these characters. Let's just say once I picked up this book I could not put it down.
You also meet so many new characters in this book from the wow I can't wait to read more about him to the ugh why would he be so horrible and do something like that to them. So you get your sweet plus steam which wow I have to say the way they were with other in bed was so damn hot! But you also get your scary moments too and the edge of your seat biting your nails moments also.

All together I really loved this book!

I would definitely recommend this book!

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

✔ Letto! Bellissimo libro molto bene costruito.
Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ e💋

This story was not really what I expected based on the blurb: , and it felt very bogged down with minutia. The reader doesn't often need to know every single thing a character is eating or wearing, and we also don't need a laundry list of daily activities that do nothing to further the plot.

Not a bad book, and it has some really hot sex scenes (though too many of them, in my opinion), but it just wasn't right for me, despite my deep and abiding love for m/m/m menage.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

I came away from reading this book with decidedly mixed feelings. There were parts of it that I really enjoyed, and some others that left me scratching my head. What we have here are three really well-rounded and fleshed out characters, an interesting and mostly believable threesome, and some great secondary characters as well. The plot flowed along nicely, and the pacing was really good. The world building was really well done. The author gave us a fantastic inside look at the shifter world in the book, and I felt I understood it. But there were some aspects that really threw me and pulled me out of the story.

Read Kris’ review in its entirety here.

3.5 stars. Liked the second half more that the first. I felt the three of them got together pretty easily despite the different species, mating, threesome, etc.

I'd be interested in reading more about some of the secondary characters.

I did not enjoy this one at all. The premise seemed good but it just wasn't done well. I could not get into the writing style, the dialogue wasn't natural and the characters were blah....

Can't finish this. Don't like the writing and don't like the instalust/everybody has to bone everybody otherwise pain and death stuff.

Pity, because the plot sounds rather fine.

Rilettura 2021:
Interessante e super carino. Una rilettura che faccio sempre con gioia. Unitevi al lato oscuro e gattoso insieme a me!!

(Aggiornamento 2 maggio 2018)

Trouble Comes in Threes is the first book in the series titled Fur, Fangs, and Felines. It’s about Talise ‘Tal’ Martin, Dolfoon ‘Dolf’ Hoyer, and Kirk Wells. Tal and Dolf are cat shifters and Kirk is human. The story is told from all three characters povs, but in a different way. Dolf and Tal’s povs are in third person while Kirk’s is in first. I’ll explain later in the review how this worked out for me.

I really enjoyed this book. After I got over my initial giggles of cat shifters (mainly because I am not a huge cat person), I really liked the characters.

Tal, Dolf and Kirk have a great relationship. I liked how Church wrote the relationship between Tal and Dolf and had them living and loving in a relationship that wasn't necessarily missing something, but when Kirk joined, showed them that they could have a meaningful relationship with Kirk too - that he completed their triad.

I also liked the protagonist - that Kirk wasn't necessarily welcomed, but that his mates defended him with their every breath. That type of devotion was so sweet.

I still laughed when Church described their fighting - picturing in my head, cats fighting, I can't help but chuckle.

Overall, I really liked the story and hope that Church writes another one about Remi. I also would love to hear more about the main characters' main lives and how things are going.

This normally wouldn't be a reading choice for me but I thought I'd go out of my comfort zone and read a shifter book. I have only read one or two, but boy am I glad I did, this one was beyond good!
This was the most amazing, fun book to read. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. Once I started it I could not put it down. The story flowed so well it just kept me interested right till the end.

I loved Kirk, he was a guy down on his luck, then two cats showed up. It was so funny when he was talking to them in cat form. The dialogue was the best. His reaction to their shifting was priceless. As their relationship progressed I felt bad for how people treated him. The story took some turns I didn't expect, but it made the story that much better and interesting.
Tal and Dolf were very strong characters, I don't think the story would have been as enjoyable if they were portrayed any differently. They each brought something different to the relationship.

The only thing I found annoying was the repeated use of the words sexy, goddess, and cutie. Otherwise a very enjoyable book!
