Welcome to the final round of The Faerie Race—an epic adventure through a realm as compelling as it is deadly…
The final trial of the Faerie Race has arrived: a head-to-head battle through the streets of Elfame city. Jacq and Orin should be ecstatic to have made it this far—but tragedy overshadows them both—leaving the pair wondering if the cost to continue is too high.
Only the unexpected reappearance of her long-lost sister keeps Jacq in the game, but Cass’s presence comes with troubles of its own. The ancient Brotherhood is closer than ever to carrying out a twisted plot that would mean an end to modern human civilization. There’s one slim chance to foil the Brotherhood’s plans, and only Jacq and Orin have the means to do it.
Thrust into a lethal final showdown that’s more game than race, Jacq and Orin quickly realize that the odds are once again rigged against them. And worse, their enemies have thrust those they love into the cross-hairs. The clock is ticking. Jacq and Orin have one slim chance to foil the Brotherhood’s plans and win the race, or they’ll lose more than just the competition. They’ll lose everything and everyone they hold dear.
The Doomsday Trial is Book Three in The Faerie Race, a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride through a realm unlike you’ve ever seen. Scroll up and one-click to finish the adventure!
Claire Luana grew up reading everything she could get her hands on and writing every chance she could. Eventually, adulthood won out, and she turned her writing talents to more scholarly pursuits, going to work as a commercial litigation attorney at a mid-sized law firm. While continuing to practice law, Claire decided to return to her roots and try her hand once again at creative writing.
She has written and published five series, the Moonburner Cycle, the Confectioner Chronicles, the Mythical Alliance, the Knights of Caerleon, with Jesikah Sundin, and the Faerie Race, with J.A. Armitage. She lives in Cle Elum, Washington with her husband and two dogs. In her (little) remaining spare time, she loves to hike, travel, binge-watch CW shows, and of course, fall into a good book.
The Doomsday Trial is the the third and final trial in the Faerie Races! This series was action packed and thrilling! It was such a fun read, and I loved how it turned out!
Our favorite contestants Jacq and Orin have made it to the final trial in the Faerie Race. Jacq and Orin have come to the conclusion that the trials are more than just a game and a TV reality show. They have come to realize that the trials/games are just a front for something bigger and lives are at stake. No one was supposed to get hurt or die in the trials or so they were told or lead to believe but they now know they were lied to.
The Faerie King has something up his sleeve and is using the trials to hide behind. The secrets that the King is hiding could cost many their lives in the Faerie world as well as the human world. Once Jacq and Orin figure out that there is more at stake than they realized it is a race against the clock or other contestants to the end of the race so they can stop the King before it is too late.
The Doomsday Trial is filled with action from the start of the race from beginning to the end with plenty of twists and turns to hold your interest and keep you in enthralled with all its magic. The excitement alone is enough to keep the pages turning. The Doomsday Trial is so vividly written that it is like seeing a movie play out in your head. I was rooting for our favorite contestants through the whole race but I will have to admit there was a time when I sort of was wishing that they would not be in first place at the end.
Oh and speaking of the end that ending was so amazing one that I never quiet expected but it did make me so happy to see. I really liked how it all turned out in the end. What an amazing race it was.
Jacq and Orin seemed to grow so much throughout all three books and it was nice to watch their attachment for each grow and to see them become closer and closer and to see a little romance between developing.
I would highly recommend The Doomsday Trial as well as the other two books The Sorcery Trial and The Elemental Trial in the The Faerie Race series to all fans of fantasy. If you like The Hunger Games then I think you would like The Faerie Race series.
the doomsday trial ( the faerie race ) It was a fun read the first book takes a while to understand what you’re getting into but once you do it’s so good you feel like you're reading something that’s one deadly and impossible survivor episode with a lot of twists and turns like the Hunger Games. This is about a girl who’s trying to find answers and along the way gets into a lot of messed-up situations
I loved this book and the whole series once I got past the first book I knew I would love it. My favorite in this last book is Peachkin he made me laugh and cry Oh Peachkin you little fairy leprechaun why wasn’t you in the other books ☹️
Anyway, I would very likely recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy it’s also mixed with humans so that’s fun to see how it plays out. I had so much fun reading this last one
I didn't dislike the ending which I had some feeling that I would be let down. The adventure made it worth the investment and I def let myself ponder if writing stories is something I could do. Those were my greatest takeaways.
This entire series needs to be made into a TV show. This is basically the Amazing Race but Fae style. There is a mystery with the Brotherhood, Jacq's missing sister, a Prince that is presumed dead.
The Chess game in this final installment was a wild ride. And my ultimate dream for this novel was for Orin to see his family again, after 18 years. By the end of the book I was a puddle.
I don't want to say too much a spoil the novel, but it is a very entertaining ride. Claire makes it so that reading her books are so effortless. You get scooped up into the world she creates and this with her co-author J A Armitage; is a cast of characters that you are rooting for, that you love to hate and others you hope that karma gets them.
A very pleasant and happy conclusion to this novel. I would definitely be interested in more stories in this fae world.
The Doomsday Trial, the third and final part of the Faerie Race saga, picks up mere hours after the cliffhanger ending of The Elemental Trial, and the danger is at an all time high. The story continues at a fast pace with intrigue, plot twists and the foreshadowing of the first two parts paying off really well. The characters reach the apex of development, especially Jacq and Orin. I was on edge to see what would happen to the characters until the end. As a disclaimer, I read a beta version of the entire saga in early 2019 before reading this final version.
Before the third part of the race begins, the background plot looming over the first two parts enters the foreground, making the race a bit less of a priority for our characters. But rules are rules, and the show must go on. The danger faces a different form than in the first two trials, forcing our characters to rely on different skills than before. The twists were well done here, with chapter 19 being a prime example of this. It’s also clear that this is twisted reality TV with every turn. This Amazing Race has taken the turn for the worst, even more than I first thought, but it’s to be expected. The story is fast paced once again, with easy to read and vivid prose that brought the magical city of Enflame to life. Once again, Jacq’s snark in her prose kept the dark situation from getting too dark, and in a way, her sourness towards everything with more swearing and a pessimistic view of the trials (especially considering how The Elemental Trial ended) brings the whole thing together. The small quips in the middle also helped the situation from getting too dark. I love the world building added in here, explaining and tying into bits from the first two parts and expanding on the setting.
Once again, characters on point. Due to the ending of The Elemental Trial, many supporting characters were on the bench, but do make appearances, but their appearances make quite the impact. We finally meet some characters that have been hinted about before to make up for that, and I love each of the newcomer’s personalities; they stand out and play an important role in the story. Protagonists Jacq and Orin grow and reach the peak of their character development, with both revealing aspects of their characters that made me think of them in a bit of a different light, and it’s obvious that they are growing closer through the crucible of these trials. I love how they grow and adapt in terms of the race. Which is why I love how they go through the trial and show they are clever. And the villains reveal themselves, and they provoked the fear and hatred that I want to feel with these types of characters.
The climax was thrilling and the ending was very satisfying, bringing this thrilling and fast paced story to an end. I highly recommend this for Urban Fantasy fans into danger, romance and a look at delay reality TV. Looking forward to more from both Luana and Armitage!
As always this author finishes strong as the trails end and the sisters are reunited. The budding romance between the mc's is strengthened and thankfully the authors keep it clean so it doesn't distract from the story. The feelings are still muddled and new and with a decision having to be made soon. That's not all by a long shot and while it's still part of the story it isn't the highlight. Plenty of action, magic, intrigue and betrayal from teammates and others keep these two hoping as the battle against more than their rivals. The action will keep your heart racing and you screaming in your head as they dash from one hell to the next and continue to survive. This time they may end up trusting the wrong person and it may cost lives, not just theirs. The fate of the human world is at their fingertips they can't afford to be wrong.
I was provided an advance copy via the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third and final installment of Faerie Race Trilogy. This is by far the most creative of the 3 trials. I really loved that Jacq and Orin had to figure out and play a very strategic game, while also trying to thwart the very real danger of the Brotherhood. I don’t want to give too much away as I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this final installment.
This picks up just after the second books ends with Cass still reeling from her friends death in the 2nd trial and the knowledge that her sister is very much alive. She and Orin meet up with Cass and learn that the Brotherhood is in fact up to no good and find out what they are really planning at the end of the race. Jacq and Orin decide to head back into the dangerous race in an attempt to stop the Brotherhood and save both the Faerie and Human realms. Our favorite race team must figure out the rules of the game and protect their pieces of the game board because as we learn the battle their pieces face is deadly. I really liked that all of the contestants from the previous trials returned as pieces and that some of the pieces were very personal to Jacq and Orin, that was a nice addition and very authentic element of reality TV shows.
I think this was my favorite of the three books. It was fast paced, action packed, the plot was really unique and creative, and I liked that the romance was there but not in your face. Both Orin and Jacq are faced with very tough decisions and we see them develop throughout the entire series. I thought this series wrapped up in nicely, leaving the reader feeling satisfied. There were some good twists and turns and I really wasn’t sure which way this was going to go until the very end. This was such a fun series and I recommend it for lovers of fantasy.

What a brilliant conclusion to this wonderful series. There is so much action and adventure in this one. Tension is amped up and so many twists and turns. I'm not giving any spoilers but boy what a conclusion this is. I have enjoyed this series so much; wonderfully written characters that have been a joy to follow throughout. I have loved the whole plot and story line throughout as it has kept me gripped til the last word. Recommend highly.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
There was so much about this book that doesn't make sense. One, why a Fairy race. There has to be a million other, easier and less public ways to sneak bombs in. Two, if your plan is to take over the human world, why host a fairy race and make it so brutal that humans would have zero interest in living among faeries. Three, the last trial is a live chess game. I will admit the idea is super cool, but logistically makes no sense. You create an elaborate test where the finish line is to be the set of a human sacrifice. The creators would have details, would know the finish line, would have camera and crew there waiting. And then you make it so brutal you almost kill your human sacrifice and its not even broadcast. And you so clearly tip it in your sons favor knowing there is no prize or winner anyway. If his son wins then his partner is the sacrifice. Why wouldn't you rig it for your son to lose so he's no where near the finish line and has no clue what's going on? Four, you know the finish line is the sacrifice and yet you still race to the finish line? Why are you even still trying to win? This book felt more disjointed. A lot of things just didn't make sense. The last trial was a cool concept, especially with the main protagonist being good at chess, amd then its all ruined when in one sentence she says she just made a bunch of crap moves. They got the protection spell from the dad and could have played smarter and protected their people and yet didn't. There was no strategy, just bungling around. In the end everyone got their happily ever after but it just didn't draw me in the way I was hoping for.
The twists in this final instalment of the faerie race definitely sent me for a loop. I did not see that coming! The mystery element of this series is so well written and the authors totally keep their cards close while throwing out brilliant red herrings, so it was impossible to figure out what was going on behind the scenes of the faerie race with all the insanity of spells going wrong, security failing, and people getting caught up in the horrors. The villain is definitely one you can love to hate and the ending was pure perfection.
I thoroughly enjoyed this action-packed series that let me relax and stop thinking about anything except for Jacq, Orin and how they were going to get out of the mess. There were totally moments where I believed things were hopeless, so these authors definitely get it right, making those twists unexpected and unforeseen.
If you're looking for urban fantasy with an unusual premise and a unique combination of ideas, then this is a fabulous series to immerse yourself in.
I received this novel as an ARC from Ms. Luana. Thank you! The final Faerie Race has arrived and all bets are off! Everything hangs in the balance of Orin and Jacq discovering the location of the MED to foil the plans of the Brotherhood in uniting both worlds. Jacq and Orin have made it to the last trial, but everything is stacked against them as well as sabotage. Jacq is reunited with her sister, who has been working with the ICCF to stop the Brotherhood. There are several twists in the plot and unexpected surprises. Everything is on the line for Jacq and Orin to win the race and foil the Brotherhood's plans, otherwise the Faerie King will rule over all. Telling truth from lie will push them harder than ever. Sacrifices must be made for the greater good. Jacq and Orin will have their limits tested. Will they be able to save both their worlds before time runs out? A great conclusion to the trilogy!
ONE KICK-ASS ADVENTURE!!! Highway to hell! Perilous drama, chilling danger, electrifying suspense, throw in the added bonus of uncovered revelations and speculation along with tension and intrigue blaze all of those jagged pieces together smoothly. When hard decisions have to be made, put on your ass-kickin' boots and and get to stomping'. You are not going to believe how this climax plays out. Toss in the thrilling scenario's and you have one prize winning nailbiting delight. A throng of startling circumstances and a slew of surprising events blast those churning emotions forward in this intense storyline and gripping plot. The characters are genuine, tangible and realistic with such depth and qualities that blend and flow fluidly. The scenes are written with such realism and colorful descriptions it paints an incredible backdrop that blows this baby wide open. Remarkable job guys, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
Stupendous ending to wonderful series. It’s almost sad to see the ending of this series, but races end. It’s now down to two couples. Orin and Jacq, and Tristam and Sophie. But if the first two trials were dangerous, this one is worse. Life and death, especially for Earth. The last trial is a game of chess with live characters as the chess pieces, scattered throughout a town in faerieland. But the chess pieces are comprised of family, and former racers. And if either if the two teams make a move that takes another chess piece, the two pieces (live people) have to fight to the death to determine a winner. They can’t stop even though they try. Orin and Jacq have to stay alive, keep their relatives and friends on the chess board safe, and finish the race. Oh yeah! They also have to stop the King of faerieland and his supporters from breaking the barrier between humans and the fae. If he breaks the barrier, he will take over as the ruler of everyone, humans and faerie.
A great conclusion to an awesome series. Secrets are finally being brought into the light. Jacq and Orin’s plans have changed and now these trials have become more than saving family but the entire human realm. The mystery and suspense are coming to a head and we see more action, adventure, danger and romance. It’s down to the final four and the King with the Brotherhood are becoming bolder and now they’ve found the ultimate distraction. With family in eminent danger Jacq and Orin are making mistakes that just may get their loved ones killed. If they wish to stop the Brotherhood, they must accept help from unlikely enemies and friends. However, all is not as it seems, and information provided just may help the King bring about the end. The authors have done a fabulous job with keeping us hooked from beginning to end and I look forward to reading more from each of them.
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. This is the last book in the Faerie Race series, and what a series it's been. This book is amazing, just like the first two. We see Jacq and Orin race against Tristam and Sophia to see who will win the Faerie Race. But as we know from the other book's there is something sinister going on, and is Jacq really going to meet up with her long lost sister Cass after 2 years of searching for her 🙀🙀 The game that the players have to play is once again heavily tipped in Tristam's favour, with plenty of risks along the way for Jacq and Orin, as they always seem to find trouble 😆 This book is really well written and thoroughly enjoyable with lots of twists and turns along the way that will keep you on your toes and awake saying, just one more chapter 😂😂 I would definitely recommend this book/series as they are really entertaining 💖💖
A deadly race that’s rigged. A threat to civilization itself. Action, suspense, thrills. And romance (can’t forget romance). Oh yes indeed, when it comes to climactic endings, Claire Luana & J.A. Armitage are the masters. The Fantastic Faerie Race will come to a grand conclusion, and every thread in this series’ complex story arc will be thoroughly dealt with in The Doomsday Trial (The Faerie Race Book 3). No surprise that when you put two masterful authors together you get a masterful conclusion. Jacq and Orin get the ending they deserve -and do so we readers. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Saved the best for last! This entire series is a definite must read! What would happen if The Amazing Race crossed with Supernatural and was run by an evil king? The Fantastic Faerie Race. These books have it all. Action, adventure, evil conspiracy, a mysteriously disappeared sister, magic and an unlikely romance to top it all off. Doomsday Trial brought all the events of the previous books to a very satisfying and hopeful conclusion. I enjoyed each book but I think this one is my favorite not just for the hea, which I loved. The author gave us not only a well written story to enjoy but a wonderful conclusion to the overarching plot of the trilogy. I could rave for days but I’ll just say this go get your copy and don’t forget the first two books you won’t regret it!! I received an ARC from the author. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
A solid conclusion to the series, that kept me reading well into the night.
This was, I felt, a little bit weaker than the earlier instalments. I liked the ways the overarching plot, and the reality TV plot intertwined in this book, which helped to keep things fresh. One aspect of the trial towards the end seemed to oscillate between whether it wanted there to be stakes or not. The conclusion to the romantic subplot was satisfying, and the final confrontation with the antagonist was well done.
The shift in this one, particularly the final trial, was very reminiscent of the second half of Mockingjay, so if you enjoyed that, you would enjoy this.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, and you're not looking for anything groundbreaking, this book will keep you entertained for an afternoon.
Well, they did it. I’m officially speechless. The Doomsday Trial was everything I didn’t know I needed for this series to end on such a perfect note. After two books of intense plot twists, heart-stopping moments, and enough emotional turmoil to make even the most seasoned reader question their life choices, these two authors delivered a conclusion that had me grinning like a fool.
I can’t even begin to express how satisfied I am with the way things wrapped up. Every loose end was tied up just right, and the characters? They’ve grown so much, it almost felt like watching them graduate to the next level of greatness. The stakes were higher than ever, and the pacing? Spot on. They built the tension perfectly without dragging anything out, and just when I thought I knew where things were going… BAM! Plot twist.
Usually, when you finish reading a series, there is that feeling that something is missing or something could have been better... That does not happen with The Faerie Race. The books are very well written, the plot is excellent, a mix of The Hunger Games with The DaVinci Code and Mission Impossible, the characters well developed, there is action, adventure, intrigue, treason, drama and romance, all set in a fantastic fairy world. The only thing I could now ask for is to have my own Orin!
If I could, I would give each book and the whole trilogy 10 stars. It is one of the best series of paranormal fiction that I have read in a long time. I highly recommend it, and I thank the authors for the opportunity to read these wonderful books.
This third book in the trilogy had me hanging on for dear life. Jacq and Orin are faced with their biggest and most dangerous challenge yet. Wanting to finish the challenge and win buts heads with needing to find the Med that could destroy the world as they know it. Add to that the contest is rigged and the brotherhood is trying to stop them as well. We also see some change in the king's son, Tristam and this is the first time you can feel the danger for Jacq and Orin that they may not get out of in time. Battles, Chess and their parents seem to change the whole dynamic when they figure out exactly what they are fighting. A fantastic ending to a very edge of your seat trilogy! I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Just had to get into this one to see what is next having read the first two. This author is good at depositing us into another world with characters that can capture us as the author has done again in this one. The drama is at its highest with Jacq and Orin giving us the first in this. Others will also have their time in this with even some surprises. Still not fair this one will be the most challenging with us chomping at the bit at times. This was also beyond what I imagined which is very good thing. Twists and turns make for a fast pace at times. Different kind of world so held my interest longer. By the time you reach the top of this one you can hardly stand it with when finished a well deserved rest needed almost.
This is the third and last book of the serie. If you haven't read the first two, stop reading this and do it now! You won't regret. The last challenge is just awesome! Perfect for the big finale in every way. I really don't want to spoil it for you. Let's just say, if you liked Harry Potter games, this is even better, starting with the scale. I would not mind to see the story go on. If only there would be another threat to Earth/Fairy I bet our couple would be in the front lines for the fight. I would love to see Jacq grow her use of magic and her relationship to find the real world and fame outside the cameras. It's never easy to let go of great characters even with perfect endings. So one can only wish...
I completely adored this book!! I was so disappointed when I got to the end as I didnt want this to be the last time I experienced this world!
I adored the storyline to this book! It's so so Imaginative and creative. It's also so exciting that you don't know what will happen next and that keeps you hooked to turning page after page, the dtoryline just geta better and better.
The characters are even better in this book than the previous two and i loved finding out more and more about each character as well as seeing them all grow throughout this series.
I absolutely adored this series and this book. The talent of the author is outstanding and I can't recommend this book highly enough!
4 & 1/2 stars rounded up. I definitely enjoyed this book, it held my attention & actually kept me up too late on a weeknight to finish it. It did flow well for the most part. I progressively liked Jacq & Orin more with each book in the series. There are definitely some missed opportunities in the plot and some "what the heck" moments, & I was surprised by a lot of things that happened, but guessed at a few others. I would have liked a few more details, that left me with unanswered questions. I felt that it was a good conclusion to the series, though I would have loved an epilogue for the Jacq & Orin, even for her sister & her guy.
The last trial. That ends up being another type of trial all together. Everything as we know it is on the line.
Orin and Jacq heat up the pages with all kinds of tension - not only of fear, rage or power but also the sexy kind.
Although the beginning of this book was not as predictable as the other two and the story does still follow a pathern, I enjoyed the rants and emotional explosions (specially on Jacq's part: who doesnt love a woman who can throw a punch?)as well as certain logics behind the trials. Even so, I have to say, the ending is too fairytale-y for my taste but why not? When you opened the first book you already knew what to expect at its end.
Great conclusion to this wonderful series. I wouldn't say this was my favorite book of the series but it still is a great book. I wasn't ready for this series to end but none-the-less I refused to put the book down and it didn't disappoint. Orin and Jacq are battling it out with Tristam and Sophia in a Harry Potter meets Mockingjay style giant chess match for the final trial. They are trying to outsmart and outrun all that is thrown at them while trying to take down the Brotherhood and Faerie King with a few swoon worthy kisses mixed in there. Be sure to read this final book in the series!
The third round of the Faerie Race is a live chess game through Elfame City, with their friends and family as the pieces. Despite all the protections reportedly put in place, Jacq's experience doesn't let her trust that anyone is going to be safe. While trying to stay one step ahead of their competition, Jacq and Orin have a second task, to ensure that they Brotherhood don't succeed in putting their own plans in place. I really enjoyed these books. I read them so fast as I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next, but now I'm kind of sad that they're finished.
