Rate this book
Easy, delicious ketogenic recipes all with ten ingredients or less, from the founder of the mega-popular keto website Wholesome Yum.

There's a reason that the ketogenic diet has become so wildly It truly works! And weight loss is just the beginning. Studies have shown that the keto diet stabilizes mood, raises energy levels, controls blood sugar, lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol, and more.

Unfortunately, many people are intimidated by keto--they don't have a lot of time to cook, they have a whole family to feed, or they worry that they'll miss their favorite meals. That is why Maya Krampf created her now hugely popular website, Wholesome Yum, to share easy keto recipes all with ten ingredients or less. And now, in her first cookbook, Maya is determined to show people that a keto lifestyle does not have to be complicated, time-consuming, unsustainable, or boring.

The Wholesome Yum Easy Keto Cookbook
features 100 super-simple, I-can't-believe-that's-keto recipes including flourless chocolate chip peanut butter waffles, sheet pan sausage breakfast sandwiches, crispy keto chicken fingers, spaghetti squash ramen soup, keto garlic bread sticks, cinnamon roll pizza, and much more. You don't have to give up your favorite foods--virtually anything you like to eat can be made keto, and delectably so. The book also features a primer on the keto diet, essential pantry-stocking tips, and a section dedicated to creating Maya's signature "fathead" keto dough that is used to prepare delicious keto breads, pastries, tortillas, and more.

This is a great keto cookbook with a lot going for it and a few drawbacks.

The pros:

~ There is a photo for every recipe, and the photos are full color and appealing.
~ Macros are included for the recipes so you have full nutritional information.
~ The recipes sound tasty and many of them are fairly simple.
~ There are a lot of comfort food type of dishes.

The cons:

~ Many recipes call for the author's specialty products like her fake sugars. She says you shouldn't substitute.
~ Some recipes call for making other recipes that are not included in this book but are in her other books. You should be able to find these recipes elsewhere online but it's a pain.
~ Many recipes call for products I personally don't cook with because they're heavily processed, particularly unhealthy or otherwise don't work for me like crushed pork rinds, inulin and whey protein powder. No substitutions are given for people who don't do dairy or pork, though she says you can substitute sugar for inulin (she uses it to feed yeast).
~ These are definitely recipes to make because you're having cravings, not food that will necessarily heal you or support good health.
~ A lot of the recipes seem like a lot of work. Even when they looked good to me, I often found myself reading the steps and deciding I wasn't craving that food that much.

If there had been more easy recipes and fewer recipes that needed her specialty foods, pork rinds and whey protein powder, I might have considered purchasing a copy for myself. It's not a cookbook that would be much use to me and my family but others are likely to love it.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

I bought this book for a dairy-free keto family member. She loves this and has had excellent success with all the recipes she's made so far, even the bagels that I was certain wouldn't turn out but looked gorgeous and fluffy on her instagram.

We've also been able to prepare several of the recipes vegan when we were together so I could eat them too.

For example, she made the scones using a flax egg instead of a chicken's egg which made it still keto and now also vegan. While they weren't the same as a scone made with white flour and some kind of butter, they were great for something that was relatively healthy/GF/grain-free/keto.

We also made the shakshuka together, with her eggs in a separate pan (my tofu on the side) and then us both putting my tofu/her eggs on top of our respective portion. She also made the "potato salad" vegan and I was sad I couldn't try it because I'm allergic to cauliflower. (What a clever idea!)

If you are a vegan with grain, gluten or yeast allergies I would recommend this book. Ditto for vegans who eat lower carb. Hopefully your brain will autocorrects "chicken" to tofu or chickpeas, "beef" to portobello, "heavy cream" to coconut milk, etc. as mine does.

The reason I bought this book for her was that most recipes don't have many ingredients and they come together pretty fast. Many were also dairy-free which seems rare for Atkins/Keto and she has a severe allergy.

HOWEVER, most of the recipes tend to use less common/more expensive ingredients you'll have to go to a Whole Foods for (e.g. almond flour, coconut flour, avocado oil, erythritol <-- I'd never heard of that) but if you're already on a special diet these items probably aren't going to be anything new to you.

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi.wordpress.com/

Other than three major detractors, this is a nice cookbook. It has photographs for every recipe, is clean and easy to read/follow, and has a nice presentation. The recipes are all variations of common foods: it's more like a way to deal with cravings for full carb foods than necessarily what you would eat every day as part of a low card lifestyle change. The author is upfront about that and recommends her other cookbook for eating changes and for more every day keto meals.

That said, there are two things that caused me to lower my rating. One: several ingredients are from the author's website and there are no substitutes. If you want the recipes to end up like the author wrote them, you'll need to go shopping. The author puts this as "supporting my book" but that makes it sound optional when it isn't: you want to make many of these recipes, you have to go to her website and spend money - or take your chances wasting your time.

The second issue is that she gives recipes that require another recipe which is conveniently only fully on her other cookbook. So., e.g., to make the Deep Dish Pizza, you need her fatdough recipe. But that recipe is fully covered in her other book and only a condensed version appears here. Hope it turns out ok for you without the full recipe - or you can buy her other book.

Each recipe has a large photograph that is well done. They all have notations if vegetarian, serving size, serves amount, storage, nutrition info (calories, fat, carbs, fiber, net carbs, protein). There are some nice tips and variations for quite a few that I found particularly helpful.

In all, without the above issues, this would be a perfect 5 for me. I am just disappointed and really tired of the marketing doublespeak, hidden agendas, upsell. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

This Keto cookbook for carb lovers is written by someone who has lived the lifestyle for 10 years and done all the experimenting for us! Now that my kids are grown and not insisting on traditional chicken strips, pizza, and other teen friendly cravings, I’m inspired to spend a little more time cooking cleaner and healthier for my husband and I and this cookbook is a great place to start.

In the beginning pages the author lists and explains many substitutions and alternatives to carbs and how they are affected in the cooking process. The chapter list is impressive including Breads, Potatoes, Pizza, Pasta Dishes, Casseroles, Desserts and more! She even includes access to her App where the reader can track macros, find recipes, meal plan, etc. So helpful!

The author states, “Almost all baked goods can be made key friendly”…sign me up! Every recipe includes beautiful and realistic photos on how the dish appears prepared as well as helpful notations about how the food tastes and the texture. It is obvious that this author did extensive testing on each recipe to make sure it turns out as close to the original, carb loaded dish we are craving.

There are so many compelling recipes in this book including meatball subs, French fries, risotto, potato salad, paella, taquitos, lasagna, chocolate chip cookies, apple crisp and so much more!

If you’re thinking of incorporating more keto recipes in your lifestyle or have already done so, this cookbook is well thought out to bring many of our favorites to the table in a healthier way!

Thank you Netgalley, MPL Publishing and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

As a Keto lifestyle cookbook, I think this one appears to be pretty fantastic. I, however, picked it up just to find some low carb recipe options as I'm trying to cut out refined carbs from my diet. I wish I had realized ahead of time some of the Keto "rules" - like using only sugar substitutes and cutting out certain fruits and vegetables. I thought the cookbook as a whole was beautiful and well written and organized with so many amazing photographs. It's given me a lot of inspiration for making lower carb meals. But there were also many that I decided to just skip over because I'm not interested in filling my pantry with sugar substitutes or making all simple condiments from scratch before using them in other recipes.

Good variety with tantalizing photos. I've cooked 6 recipes so far, and I'd rate 3 as excellent (pecan fat bombs, maple bacon muffins, broccoli cheese soup), and the others average. Minus one star because some recipes are 'low carb' but not necessarily low enough in net carbs to fit my keto macros. Disappointed the binding broke at the very back of my book between 254-255, but otherwise a high quality book.

This book is exactly what I've been looking for! The recipes were so easy to follow which is essential for a girl like me who is lazy when it comes to cooking. I also appreciate that the recipes weren't too wordy, just the essential information to make the recipe!

I went on a keto diet three years ago and lost 40lbs. I went off it and gained back all the weight and more. Every week there is a woman's magazine touting the keto diet. It gets confusing, but Maya Krampf looks at keto as a lifestyle choice, not a diet. I just got this book tonight and spent hours reading through it. It really looks doable. Many of the recipes looked very appealing. There is one I can't wait to try, homemade sugar-free maple syrup. Recipes for waffles, pancakes, brownies, bread, bagels, all the things you didn't think you could eat on keto. I obviously haven't made anything but the recipes look easy to understand.

Fabulous book for low carbers!! Some of the recipes are still out of bounds for me but there was still a lot of useful information and recipes. I've followed Wholesome Yum online so this book was a treat. The chaffle low-down was very helpful and that french toast has created a yummy breakfast buzz in our household (okay, let's face it, we've had it for lunch and dinner too!)

This was more an investigation of the Keto movement which I am not buying into for a variety of reasons.

That said, I did like the Kielbasa Veggie Sheet Pan Dinner and Easy Buffalo Chicken Dip.

I read a lot of cookbooks and this one is well done. I have tried a few recipes successfully. I will say that even though I eat low carb I don’t like to use replacement sweeteners and there are a lot of them in here. Still it’s a worthwhile book if you are interested in this type of cooking.

nyone on the Keto diet (almost everybody at some time) will want to pick up The Wholesome Yum Easy Keto Carboholics' Cookbook: 100 Low Carb Comfort Food Recipes. 10 Ingredients Or Less , by Maya Krampf, creator of the Keto website, Wholesome Yum. The cookbook is full of information that will help anyone stick to the Keto diet, and helpful hints and substitutions for well-loved carbs such as potatoes. The best part, of course, is the recipes – 100 excellent recipes, actually.

Not only are most of the recipes gluten-free, but the author offers a dairy-free option for the recipes; helpful for those on special diets in addition to the Keto diet. The recipes call for ingredients that must be obtained in special grocery or health stores, or on the gluten-free aisle of regular grocery stores. There are dozens of ingredients called for that aren’t mainstream and aren’t found in most kitchens.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner and are easy-to-follow. Beginning and advanced cooks will find it easy to make any of the recipes. There are beautiful photographs of most of the recipes, which make this a nice cookbook to read from as well as cook from.

The recipes include low carb breads, as well as soups, sandwiches, side dishes, main dishes (including lots of different pizzas and pasta dishes), snacks, breakfasts, casseroles and desserts.

Anyone who follows the keto diet will definitely want to pick up this excellent cookbook.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This is from the time when only blanked almonds flour and powdered erythritol reigned supreme in the keto world. So, if you want all your recipes to be those 2 bases, you'll love this book. Personally, I find almond flour to make bread as fluffy as a brick.

Author Maya Kampf is one of my favourite keto cookbook authors and authorities on the ketogenic lifestyle. In this book she explains ingredients and their characteristics, gives excellent practical advice and tips such as fathead dough versions and how best to use cauliflower rice, how to score and cut a butternut squash and gives substitutions for starches such as the potato. She also describes the best dredging process and how to make 90 second bread. Mouthwatering photographs are hunger inducing!

Not only are there popular and well-known recipes her way such as Zucchini Skins, Mozzarella Sticks, Boneless Buffalo Wings, Chicken Crust Pizza (it really works!) and Sugar Free Ketchup but less-common recipes I am besotted with including Scalloped Radishes, Deep Fried Onion Rings (one of my favourites after testing several recipes from the book), Soft Pretzels and 3 Ingredient Egg Noodles (keto pasta is one of my newest crazes).

Amongst those I am eager to try include Rutabaga Chips, Rosemary Focaccia, Crispy Baked Cauliflower Tots, 3 Ingredient Egg Noodles, Fish and Chips, Sesame Chicken, White Cheddar Crackers (they remind me of flaky pastry), Brown Sugar Bacon Knots and Mini Caramel Cheesecakes (which I plan to make this weekeend). This is one of those books you will want to try all the recipes from, not just the usual handful.

The keto lifestyle need not be difficult or overwhelming...access to books such as this is life changing for the beginner keto cook but with a wealth of information for seasoned cooks as well. The variety is wonderful and I had several lightbulb moments while devouring the book.

My sincere thank you to MPK Publishing LLC and NetGalley for the privilege of reading and eating from this thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring book!

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This cookbook is just what I need! I am currently on a low carb lifestyle change. I have been craving ALL if my favorite carb filled comfort foods. So this cookbook is perfect for me!

The beginning of the cookbooks goes over a lot of great information on substitutes. Plus a lot of information and definitions on specific ingredients. This is really helpful information for anyone who is new on their healthy food journey.

What I loved:
- All of the detailed information on what is great for a keto diet! There was a lot of things I didn’t even know I could have
- All of the different substitutes options foe a lot of my favorite foods
- The recipes have very clear and easy to follow instructions
- The photos are very vivid and really look appetizing
- LOTS of great recipes and variety!

I cannot wait to make all of these recipes. I already picked out a few for next week’s meal plans. 5 stars!
