The Boulder Wolves #3

A Pack of Love and Hate

Rate this book
ONLY ONE CAN WIN.

Volunteering to duel alongside Liam Kolane against the ruthless Creek Alpha could get Ness killed, but the alternative, leaving her hot-headed Alpha to die alone in the dueling ring isn’t an option. Not even when he places ridiculous conditions on her, like not spending time alone with August, her intended mate.

Ness didn’t want a mate, but that was before August stepped back into her life, before he picked up the scattered pieces of her heart. Between their shared history and the magical tether that binds them, Ness finds herself falling dangerously hard for the sexy shifter.

But Liam’s heart is on the line. A heart that still beats for Ness.

Only one man can win her love, the same way only one Alpha can rise from the duel.

Let the fight begin...

Release Day 30/7/19

19/7/19

4 stars

This book picks up exactly where the last one ended. Ness becomes Liam's Second in a bid to save his life. Convinced that Cassandra, the Creek Alpha has cheated, she and Liam try to buy some time to prove it and prepare for the coming duel.

description

The triangle business, unfortunately for me, continued also. I'm probably saying it for the millionth time but I just don't like triangles. It's rare for me to read books with triangles and even rarer for me to finish them but O.W. did make it easier on me. Her writing really keeps me reading even when the subject matter isn't my thing. I wanted to see more of Ness integrating with the pack, bonding with them and training for the duel. Instead, I got all the triangle stuff with all it's prevarication, dithering and what ifs. At least I was spared the total redeeming of the one part of the triangle. I don't think I could forgive him and root for him after what happened in the previous books so I was grateful the author didn't go down that route.

description

The suspense element really got to me despite all the triangle drama. Olivia Wildenstein wrote a good antagonist. Every time she was in a scene she drew your attention and when she spoke she made you doubt that she was the villain. I loved that! A villain that makes you doubt your self. I wanted to get to the conclusion and see what would happen with her so bad I read the book in a day.

description

I also loved Ness's eventual relationship progression with the H I was rooting for. He was the one that was always in her corner, always supporting in any way he could. And I wish I had gotten even more of them together. Overall, a good shifter trilogy with some unique elements.

Loved it 5+ stars

I’ve absolutely loved this series. It held my heart right to the end. This is a continuous series which needs to be read in order. It’s available on KU.

Ness is an impulsive character. Yet again she has thrown herself in the line of danger to save her family (Pack). She knows an unfair fight is not something Liam can win. Trying to solve the mystery will prove difficult in more than one way. August is her mate but now she has to stay away from him. Liam is hoping for more than a second.

A love triangle. A fight that must be won and a mystery to solve. I will definitely be reading more of this author. This has been an awesome ride.

It’s well written. It keeps you wanting more right to the end.

Pfew! I am reconciled with this trilogy!

A Pack of Vows and Tears, second book of this trilogy, had left me angry as Olivia introduced one of my hated tropes: love triangle!

More than that, Ness who had been so strong in the first book felt like a shadow of herself.

I hated Liam’s manipulation and as I had a crush on August I was really angry at how he was mistreated and played with!

I am happy to tell you that ALL these pet peeves disappeared in the conclusion to this trilogy!

Ness is back being the strong girl and bonus, she has mellowed and is more open to other shifter women, realizing that she’s been on the defensive (and rightly so) and closed off from other pack members of the feminine variety.

She will support Liam and help him in his quest to defeat Cassandra Morgan but she also will stop his manipulations and will stand her ground! YAY!

August is just …perfect!

Handsome, strong, protective without smothering Ness, kind, attentive …everything you’d want in a mate!

The plots is good with us trying to figure out Cassandra’s secret (I did figure it out!) and betrayals are still the running money.

I read it in one go, reading till 1 AM as it is an easy, fast and very enjoyable read!

I would say that this trilogy is one that can be read fast and will hold your attention through the end! If you love shifter stories and pack business, give it a try.

Have you read this series? Do you love shifter books?
Thanks for reading!

This is hands down my favourite series of the year! What a fitting conclusion to the story. I'm going to miss all the wonderful characters. My ship sailed for once and I'm so glad for that.

The Boulder Wolves series is a hidden gem!

Thank you Olivia Wildenstein for writing this amazing trilogy.

Is it a coincidence the last book comes out in August? 😉

I felt like a fly caught in a web belonging to two equally big and possessive spiders. But it wasn't my life or my heart which I feared for, but theirs. I couldn't split myself in half, and even though I loved them both, I loved them differently.

5+ what-a-fucking-ending stars!!

My mind and heart are still processing this finale. I have grown to love and care about these characters so much and have become so invested in their stories thus far, that saying goodbye to them (for now, I hope!) was such a tumultuous yet uplifting journey.
"I want your admiration, Ness. I might never get anything else from you, but I hope I'll earn that much back."

This book starts off right where APOVAT left off: with Liam challenging Cassandra as Alpha and Ness volunteering to be his Second and vowing to help him find a way to defeat her. Ness is convinced that Cassandra somehow cheated in winning her last duel, so she is now determined to find out how the Alpha won and figure out a way for Liam to defeat her. Of course, Liam sees this as an opportunity to spend more time with Ness in an attempt to win back her affection, which August (Ness's chosen mate) is blatantly against. As Ness is striving to find a way to keep her Alpha and herself alive, she must work through her feelings for both August and Liam and determine if she believes in fate after all.
"I may not have been your first choice for a mate, but I hope I'll be your last."

And as I've come to expect from Olivia's novels, there were so many extra layers of drama, deceit, danger and ultimately death. Even after Ness made her decision on who she loves (although some would argue there was never a decision to be made), I STILL had a hard time accepting it. But as the novel goes on, August doesn't give you a choice as he is just so good, and the way he treats Ness is just so beautiful that he melted the last few doubts I had. The ending was my absolute favorite part of the novel. It was so well written and there were so many last minute surprises that Olivia had in store for us. I think readers will be pleasantly satisfied with how the series ends but also happily awaiting for more, should more ever be written. I'd recommend this series to readers who enjoy shifter novels with a unique plot and intriguing characters that will keep you up at night, guessing what's to come!

For starters, I'm so sorry I didn't read this sooner as I should have! I honestly couldn't wait to get back to Ness and all the other werewolves, but obviously life [and reading life] got in the way of that one. Until now!

I was happy to come back to Olivia's writing because I know she has a brilliant way of drawing me in and not letting go until I've read the last word. It was no different this time around since I finished it in.. well.. two days? I think? I ignored my other current reads during that time - and I usually switch formats a lot during the day.

In any case! Yes, the love triangle is still very much in place in this final part of a trilogy and.. unfortunately for some it really does focus on that quite a bit throughout the story. I didn't really get bothered by it, but I did get frustrated over a certain male and his alpha-bullshit. It got old pretty fast. But - spoiler-alert! -

Long story short - I'm still very much in love with August. I'm still not sure about the age-gap thing between those two, but.. well.. I am a sucker for mating bonds so I'm willing to let that one slide. Olivia's writing reads like a train. The trilogy got wrapped up nicely and.. I'd say if you're in the mood for some werewolves, this might be the trilogy to grab!

I don't know where to begin with this review! I have loved every moment of this series and am so sad that it has finally come to an end. My heart is still dealing with the aftermath of everything that happened and honestly, never has a book left me so anxious leading up to the last 30% of the book. I will do my best to articulate everything that I am feeling!

Ness is back and dealing with a lot. Love, wolf business, and just trying to figure out everything can be rough. She is very relatable and I could see myself making the exact same decisions as she did. Although her actions don't always have the best consequences. It's a good thing she is strong-willed because she needed every ounce of it!

My wonderful Liam, where do I begin with him? He can be a jerk and definitely has a huge ego. I mean that's nothing new and have seen both of those come into the play throughout each book when it comes to him. And yet, I still like him. There are some plot twists that involve him which I was blown away by. There's so much I want to say but I can't because I want this to be spoiler-free!

August is another big character for a reason that if you haven't read the second book would be a spoiler. He has always been there for Ness and does want what is best for her. I enjoyed seeing what this book had in store for them but I can't say I was overly happy about it. He is a great guy but sometimes my heart is just set on the bad boy, which doesn't happen too often.

The relationship in this book definitely intensifies and there is a couple steamy moments.

As for the plot, it's intense! New characters are introduced and there are quite a few deaths. There are also some new beginnings and an old character who finds redemption. It was hard to put this one down even when it got close to when I go to bed. I found myself constantly thinking about it until I could pick it up again.

Overall, I did really enjoy this final book in the series. I will miss these characters dearly but am glad I had an opportunity to read all these books early on and become so attached to the characters and the plot.

SOBBING. This book. OMG this book! THIS SERIES!!!!! W.O.W. Okay, since I'm also a writer, I'm going to attempt to string some words together that will hopefully, MAYBE do this INCREDIBLE series, and incredible author, some justice. First, the depth of these characters make them so real, I swear that if I reached out, I could touch them. And believe me, I wanted to hug a great number of them on numerous occasions. Aaaaand really wanted to stab a few on numerous occasions. Second, the pacing of all three books is so fast-paced, that if you have to to put it down, your entire body begins to vibrate with nervous energy because you NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. I'm a mum, so yeah, I can fully attest to that. Third...I like to think I'm clever (I'm really not) so when I try to guess what's going to happen next, I always love it when I'm wrong and it throws me for a loop. With Wildenstein, I feel as if I'm attached to a cord and I'm being swung around in never-ending loops. It's exhilarating and freaking fantastic!!!!!
Lastly, I am personally in love with August. Totally. One-hundred percent. I'm a total sucker for the life-mate trope (which is why I write it) and this series does NOT disappoint. The love triangle was also beautifully and delicately done. BRAVO, Wildenstein!!!!!
I laughed out loud, I clutched my chest in fear, and sobbed when at last the final page turned. But one thing is absolutely certain. Olivia Wildenstein has made herself a lifelong fan.

Why does it have to be over?!? 😭
I absolutely love this series and this was definitely the best book of the 3. It broke my heart and made me laugh and had me in a roller coaster of emotions. When I turned the final page I felt like that sort of devasted grief and joy because I know this will probably be the last we heard of this story (but pleaseeeeeee write a series of companion novels!!!!) and while it's wonderful to know the final outcome of this intense story it's also heartbreaking to know that we'll probably never hear from Ness directly again and we'll never see August or Liam or Sarah from her perspective either. Now I feel the title "Love and Hate" is even more apt than just a name for a book, but it's also how it makes you feel. I wish so much that this series isn't over. I definitely recommend it to everyone and I'll absolutely be rereading it. I need to own books 2-3 in physical form now!

One thing that I really love about Olivia's writing in this series is that she manages to move along a fast-paced plot and still find the time to develop the characters. There were times where events were occurring so quickly yet the reader still got those interactions we wanted with certain characters. Her story flows so smoothly compared to a lot of other books I have read.

Personally this book was my favourite out of the 3. I really felt for Ness, feeling her frustrations, the added responsibilities she had. The reader can relate and you are definitely standing behind her holding up and sign and shouting encouragement to Ness. She really grew as a character in this book.

This book really touched on the pack dynamic of being a family and family in general. We got many scenes of the Boulder boys, Sarah, plus Ness and all their witty banters. But also those hard and intense conversations that must be had and realizations. We see a glimpse of how the pack was willing to help their members, like in Ness in her times of need and how they made her feel included. We see her with her self made immediate family (The Watts, Jeb, Evelyn). We also get a glimpse into other pack families and dynamics with the Creeks and the other packs.

I am very picky when romance is included in novels, and this book had the perfect amount! There was just enough sweet and sexy moments. The right amount of heart break and heart throb.

The story ended very tied together and I was so satisfied for the ending. Although I wish there was an epilogue to the epilogue, cause I imagine the reaction the pack would have to what occurred in that chapter probably would be hilarious.

I honestly recommend everyone to check out this series or read the final book. This is my all time favourite werewolf/shifter book I have ever read. It is such a good balance of everything you want to find in a book/series.

Hugeee shout out to Olivia for sending me a ARC! I cannot thank you enough. You are such a lovely person and a wonderful author. I am so excited to what you come out with next !

I read this story so fast it's hard to think of everything that took place, but I really enjoyed the finale to this shifter story!

Synopsis
A Pack of Love and Hate picks up exactly where the sequel left off. Ness is dealing with the after effects of agreeing to be Liam's second in the upcoming duel which includes training closely with Liam and avoiding her mate, August. Soon Ness will have to decide once again where her loyalties and her heart truly lies.

Pacing & Points of View
The overall pacing was fast and the same as the two previous books. Ness was the sole point of view throughout the story. I'm truly hoping if there's a spinoff we'll see male/female perspectives!

Characters
Ness is still my fave shifter girl! She's her usual sassy self, but I felt she matured a little more in this story. With everything Ness has been through in the last year, she's working through it and making a few less dumb decisions. The only thing I had a problem with was her not being upfront with August about the agreement with Liam. Speaking of Liam, he was his overbearing, rash, true alpha male self that we've come to know. The alpha male got to me a little too much in this one and I honestly started wishing Liam would just disappear. I know Liam's the leader, but his bulldozer ways annoyed me to the point of speed reading past him. Another point to mention would be the love triangle, which was felt more in this story than the previous ones. I'm not a fan of the triangle and that means any love triangle. This one at least had a reason with a recent breakup and then a mate appearing so I didn't mind it as much. August was the clear character winner in this book. He definitely showed his maturity and proved he was the most level headed one in the bunch. This just made me love his character more! The scenes between August and Ness were easily my favorite. I loved being along for the ride watching their relationship change and grow. The villains were really well done in every book including this one. I never knew what to expect from any of them, rooted for their demise the entire story and loved seeing what was going to happen next. I also loved reading about some of the side Boulder and Pine wolves, especially our favorite Pine female and truly hope she'll make her way into a spin-off someday.

Overall
Overall, I really liked this series. The first was amazing as it introduced me to the world of shifters and werewolves. The sequel made me fall head over heels with August and Ness and grow even more attached to the shifters around them. The third one ended the series on a good note and I loved seeing more of Ness, August and all the wolves. I definitely look forward to reading it all over again in the future. I'm sad to see it end, but I hope that this series gets a spin-off with another female shifter in the future. Hint hint! Pretty please!

I feel ridiculously lucky to be granted an advanced copy. Thank you so much to the author and Twig Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to read this amazing digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to read the authors next work!

I am truly sad that this is the last book in the trilogy. This book was wonderful. The author crafted a compelling mystery, as well as the interactions between characters. There were points at the beginning where I wanted to shake the MC, but I reminded myself how I was about boys when I was 17, and it was on point . The best thing was how Olivia Wildenstein illustrated Ness' growth. She also has this beautiful way with descriptions that allows you to imagine each setting she puts forth. I'm hoping for a spin off (looking at you, Sarah and Lucas).

This is the final book in this Trilogy and it did not disappoint. Each book I have ended up reading in a day. I just cannot put them down once I get started. Wildenstein’s writing keeps me hooked. I feel emotionally connected to the characters and completely enraptured in the world that she has created. I love all of the twists and turns in the story. There couldn’t be a more perfect ending. This review seems a little harder to write and I would hate to spoil anything so I’ll leave it at this.

UPDATE TO ADD FULL REVIEW

**4.5 stars**

This book was a great wrap of a fantasy trilogy (I am still not sure if it’s YA or NA, or something in between). Without giving too much away, the open questions from the second story get solved with some action, pack politics, a twist here and there and a good dose of romance. I was dying to know what was going to happen (for both the ongoing tensions and the romance) and I was definitely not disappointed. Additionally, I really enjoyed a few character developments from the first book to this one. These characters definitely grew on me.
In sum, this story just got better and better along the way, closing with this third book that I really liked. If this is the sort of elements you enjoy, would definitely recommend.

Yeah so I'm crying... You’re not ready for this book. I'M not ready for this book and I just read it. Ten years from now and I’m still not going to be ready for this book...

Nothing, and I do mean nothing, turnout the way I wanted it too (well, okay maybe a few things, but I'm emotional right now so dramatics are called for, LOL). I missed the mark on quite a few issues; YET... this is the one of most beautiful and heartwarming stories I've ever read. It is just utterly perfect and endearing. I am beyond satisfied and could not have ever pictured a better conclusion to this wonderful series.

I will be re-reading this series over and over again for the rest of my life. It has truly become a piece of my heart and I can’t express enough how much I have resonated with these characters. I do hope in the future the author can write more stories with the secondary characters or even a short story to let readers know that the characters are still well. I feel like they have become a part of my family, so I want update. Kind of like joint custody, I need to be in these characters lives, LOL.

On a personal note: The talent of a true author is in making readers believe in a story. In the couple, their love and circumstance, EVEN knowing it goes against the choices you would have made as that character. This book is that for me, the perfect example. I loved the outcome; it was PERFECT for the characters. Did I want a different ending… for the characters NO, for me as the character YES; but loving the story as much as I do despite that… that is what makes this author so wonderful, so magical, she doesn’t give me what I want, she give the characters what they need! ** Sigh** And that is why she has my highest respects. Olivia Wildenstein, THANK YOU. You rock lady!! All the stars in in the sky plus Cassiopeia *wink, wink*.

The writing is still just as tightly done as the first two. I just hate when the storyline revolves around the heroine lying and deceiving the hero, especially when it is tearing out the hero’s heart. AND in this instance, it continues throughout the entire book. Yuck. A sad disappointment to a series that began with such promise.
Still, the story does keep one flying through those pages, and the final twist at the end, while a sad surprise for Ness, was poignantly realistic. I applaud the author for not going with the happily expected but intertwining the overall happy ending with just a bit of real-life.

Incredible, satisfying ending to one of my new favorite paranormal fantasy series.

I think what set this series apart from others that I've read, is there's no insta-love, despite the mate bond. There's a slow-burn romance that's complex (love triangle and all), and it was utterly captivating to behold. And let me just say, August Watt emanates Big Dick Energy. He's the dream book boyfriend: mature, hard worker, gentle, protective (in the best ways). I'm already excited to go back to the beginning of the series and reread their interactions.

Also, that epilogue was exactly what I didn't know I needed as a reader. I'm excited to read the spin-offs from this series and get a start on Olivia's other books!

It's been awhile since I last read a series that I truly couldn't put down! Wildenstein wrote such a heart felt novel, it had me thinking about it all day long, replaying the words over and over throughout the day, and speeding through the pages so quickly I had to physically put the book down and step away from it and remind myself slooww downnn don't have it end yet! The boulder wolves captured my heart, my frustration, and my full support!

Being a paranormal shifter fan has it's quirks, I'm always searching for a read that takes you into the pack lives, into their minds, and allows you to experience a different kind of world. This series fit all my needs as a shifter fan! A series that keeps you guessing and on edge till the very end.

Ness, was one hell of a main character, strong, independent, and willing to fight for what she wanted in life. She never allowed the insecurities of what she had been through to knock her down or cause her to be unheard and forgotten about. I found her to be very relatable.

Liam, was definitely your jealous alpha male. He did anything and everything for his pack, he was often times frustrating, but still showed a big heart when it came to the ones he loved.

August, such a sweetheart! I adored his love, his caring nature, and his strong will to protect what's his.

Wildenstein truly captured a wonderful story, this series brought tears, and a permanent mark on my heart as well as a shelf all it's own on my bookshelf!

If you love paranormal reads, strong headed characters, and a series that keeps you guessing till the very end this is the series for you!

A Pack of Love and Hate is the third instalment in the Boulder Wolves series which concludes Ness’ storyline as future books will focus on other couples.

This was such a beautiful and, in a sense, bittersweet story. The characters really moved my heart and I loved the importance that it was given to friendship, family, love and loyalty. Ness was a great heroine, strong and caring, though I didn’t agree with some of her decisions, especially around how many times she omitted information. I fell in love with August in the previous book and I fell even further in this book, he is just so sweet and protective.
“I may not have been your first choice for a mate, but I hope I’ll be your last.”

Liam's character got better but to me there is no comparison to August. The secondary characters were great as in the previous books, giving that sense of family, but I felt we saw less of them in this book. The plot also felt a bit slower so A Pack of Vows and Tears remains my favourite in this series.

This was my first series by this author and I will definitely check more of her books as I loved her writing style and her characters. I can’t wait for the next books in this series (I adore Sarah!) and I hope the waiting is not too long. I would also love to see more from Ness and how she is doing, I needed a longer epilogue!

Oh I adored this book so much. Is was basically perfect and although I have read it before, I couldn't remember a lot so that was exciting for me!
I have Liam's book to read now which I haven't read before but I really hope we get a Sarah/Lucas book and maybe one of Matt and Cole too. Basically I am NOT ready for this series to be over! But really looking forward to Liams book.
Finally, I ADORE August. He has my whole heart !

Some books just resonate with you. I'm sure its the good writing. I'm sure its the great world building. I'm sure its the intricate plot. I'm sure its the flawed characters. I'm sure its a love triangle that I'm not sure I've recovered from. Its all of those things and something I just can't put my finger on.

Whatever it is, I devoured A Pack of Love and Hate in one sitting. In time, I'll re-read the books again just to be sure I got it all.

My emotions were very tied up after finishing book 2, A Pack of Vows and Tears. I was nervous going into the last book. I wanted one particular part to go a certain way. I'm happy to say that I was convinced otherwise and I think that's mainly because the end is beautiful. That's not to say only because of the end - along the way you see it too.

Even if you don't get as caught up as I have in The Boulder Wolves, you'll definitely enjoy this journey. Tess is a kick ass heroine - who yes - has her share of boy trouble amid the other chaos, but she is not defined by those boys. She is enhanced and strong in her own right. I could logically see her walking away just as much as I see her with the one. I love that in a character!

Fantastic read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was absorbed from beginning to end. Book 3 picks up where book 2 ends. Great pace, emotional rollercoaster, amazing ending to wrap up the series! Love this series and Oliva is one of my FAVORITE authors! Can't wait to read more by this amazing author!

This was such a good completion to the story arc. From the first page of the first book to the last page of this one, the characters have all grown and developed but they took you through some rough times/choices before that happened. I honestly want to know what everyone is doing 5-10 years in the future i'm so invested in their stories.

ARC provided by the author:

I absolutely loved everything about this. This has been one of my favorite wolf series. The characters and writing are so well developed. I love that I never know what's going to happen next and never find my mind wondering while reading. This one was saucier too, which I'm always happy about. I hope this gets way more hype, because its SO good!

A Pack Of Love and Hate is the third book in the Boulder Wolves serie by Olivia Wildenstein. The book continues right after the second stopped. Ness is Liam's second in a upcoming dual and she has to stay away from August. I loved this book. I'm a little sad that it's over. I really hope for a spin-off!!
