Moriarty's Men #3

The Hounds of Devotion

Rate this book
At long last, I'm free from the contract that promised my soul to the shrouded folk. Now I can get to work destroying every bit of influence the demonic fiends have in our world. As an added bonus, I've found myself with three unexpected allies who'll help with that mission.

It's certainly enjoyable having Sherlock, John, and Garrett around and on my side—both for strategizing and for other, more intimate pastimes. I can't say I'm entirely at ease with our new friendly arrangement, though. Will they run when they discover just how brutal I can be? Will my growing affection for them dull the sharp edges I need if I'm going to see this mission through?

But when the shrouded folk discover to my intentions, I may regret this alliance even more. The fiends aim to disrupt our plans by any means necessary, and that includes targeting the men I'm no longer sure I can stand to lose.

Oh Jemma... what have you done!? Super duper cliffhanger here!! I'm squirming and thinking noooooo. This was another brilliantly written book by the incredibly imaginative Ms. Chase!! She is a master plotter who takes your breath away!! I loved the multi POV's this series has! There is nothing better than getting into each of the key character's minds. The vulnerabilities and emotions that each of the guys carry with them is so immensely purposeful. We get their feelings and thoughts directly from them and it just sweetens the whole book. I cannot wait to see where book four will take us! Will Sherlock forgive her, hunt her down again, or serve justice upon Jemma? I'm on pins and needles to discover what happens next!! And in case you were wondering there a few steamy scenes and some MM moments as well.

This series has easily become one of my new favorites, as happens with all Eva Chase series so far. The intelligent characters, the plotting and the scheming and the mystery that's slowly unfolding, it's just very interesting and entertaining to read from start to finish. I was therefore really looking forward to this pre-last installment of the series.

Compared to the other two books, this one is rather short and in a way it feels as an in between novel. A lot of importance happens and there is once more a case that needs to be solved, but it's different from the previous two books. It's clearly all part of the bigger story arc that will for sure reach its conclusion in the last book, which I expect to be really epic. But, even though the story is relatively short and much of an in between novel I enjoyed it immensely.

Because the characters really needed this book. Jemma needed this book to realize how much she loves her four men and how much they love her. She has to discover that no danger can scare them away and that her problems have become their problems. The guys are all confronted with their fears and they need clear proof that the supernatural is as dangerous as Jemma claims it to be. Bash faces his demons, Sherlock and Watson get the biggest scares of their lives and Garrett is confronted with his past.

It gives us the chance to witness a more vulnerable side of the characters. They can't hide themselves anymore. They can't try to forget their ugly pasts and all the mistakes they made. They can't deny what they're feeling any longer and what they would want to feel, but can't feel. I think this book, more than the first two, is the moment the five of them realize that they need and want each other and that this adventure will not be over once the fight is won.

I can't wait to read the epic conclusion to this story next week.

Although I did still enjoy this book, I felt that it dragged a little and lost some of that wittiness and intellect that I enjoyed.

Moriarty has finally cleaved herself free from the shrouded folk and her contract. She’s her own person again and doesn’t have to subject herself to the pain of the golden cuff slowly killing her. Along with some unlikely allies, Moriarty find themselves in the UK again trying to take down the rest of the communes worshipping the shrouded folk. With such open acts against these supernatural creatures, Moriarty is going to need to find ways to protect her men or find out what happens when their influence causes them to lose their way.

The plot seemed to dawdle a little in this book. It still moved and we got a huge reveal at the end that left things on a HORRIBLE cliffhanger, but I felt less than inclined to keep reading at the breakneck pace I had with the first two books. I missed more of the intrigue and intelligence that the first books had.

Besides that, we get to see a different partnership between Moriarty and her London men. It’s a tentative and new sort of partnership they are trying. The trio are on the right side of the law and Moriarty is much more comfortable on the other side with Bash. Despite their differences, they still work well with each other and it’s obvious to the Londoners the very large and dynamic problem the cultists present to the world. They even begin to understand the harsh way Moriarty treats these people and how her black market and illegal ways get the results she needs effectively.

Moriarty has begun to soften to these men and she isn’t sure how that can go hand in hand with her mission to get rid of all the communes and shrouded folk from the world. The trio of Londoners don’t seem to know how to feel about Moriarty either. They know they care for her but can’t see what the future could hold for them since she’s a criminal. Garrett is the only one of the three to admit feelings of love for her, expecting nothing in return than just living in the present moment with her. I love him. Then, there’s Bash. Rip him. Honestly, feel so bad for him. Like, he loves her and it seems like almost always he’s just going along with everything she wants and doesn’t get much in return besides their new relationship as lovers... which hasn’t really turned out to be much besides a new sort of intimate affection between the two. Sherlock and John are more of the ones that are not sure what’s happening with their relationship with Moriarty.

I can’t even believe the ending of this book. How do you even come back from that? Like there is no way. It’s the last book too, so it’s not like the resolution to that is gonna be dragged out because the ending has to be wrapped up well and given time to breathe with the finality of their relationships. Not sure how that’s gonna happen. Seems wild. EIther way, I am too deep into the series to give up now and will see what happens to Moriarty and her men.

Whoa Jemma you are one intense chicka. I loved every word of this. I can definitely say this is one of my favorite series I've read this year. The author is brilliant for always finding ways to keep Jemma 15 steps ahead of these smart men.

One of the things I love about the Moriarty's Men series is the way the supernatural blends with mystery and the way everyone analyzes people, problems and the world around them. It's such a different process from what I normally read and I really enjoy that aspect of this series.

The Hounds of Devotion is the third book in the Moriarty's Men series and Eva has done an amazing job. Not only am I seeing how Jemma's and Sherlock's minds work but I also get a better sense of John and Garrett as well. I can't really describe how they look at the world so it just amazes me that Eva was able to write such analytical scenes. The characters are developing more, while they do have the assets they also recognize their weaknesses. Also, the guys and Jemma are growing closer, this isn't just her using them and them watching her, it more of a friendship that could become more and it's good to see people in Jemma's life after everything she has been through.

This is the only book I have read that has a cult in it and I am really interested in how the whole action and investigative scenes play out with Jemma, Bash (oh, I love Bash) and the London trio trying to take down this supernatural cult. In this story, more facts about the cult are revealed including how they manage to deal with certain aspects when dealing with basic needs.

Hounds of Devotion was a quick read and I really enjoyed it. There are mystery, betrayal, steamy romance, action and a shocking plot twist. The story ended on a cliffhanger that has left me totally stressed out. I am looking out for the next book in the series, I need things to be made right again. I have no idea if it will be the final book but I have enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to more.

Great paranormal crime fighting series

I’m this series is so much fun to read. The modern and paranormal twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes tale with all the famous characters given their own unique identities by the author. I love how the entire series revolves around crime fighting of the paranormal variety.

Jemma is quite the conniving criminal who will obviously do anything for her younger sister. She has no qualms about using anything and anyone to her advantage and it shows in every chapter of this book. I think that is what I love the most about this book and Jemma’s character. She isn’t your typical female main character that most readers love. She’s not the sweet innocent woman who is selfless and sacrificing but someone who is manipulative and does whatever she can to get what she wants to further her self appointed mission.

I love all the men involved with Jemma and Bash is still my favorite. The differing personalities among all four of her men were entertaining to read especially during their POV chapters. It made all the interactions among the characters much more interesting to read.

The steam level was just as hot as the last 2 books but never once over powered the actually story. The nice little MM action was super hot too and I’m excited to read more of that relationship developing.

Another great book in the series with quite the ending but then again, I shouldn’t be surprised with what Jemma is willing to do to accomplish her goals. Now I’m even more curious as to what will happen in the next book and the repercussions of her actions.

I am having a total blast with Eva Chase’s Moriarty's Men series. It’s a wonderfully inventive re-imagination of Sherlock Holmes in the modern world with a romantic (ménage in the making) twist and a super villainous enemy in the “shrouded folk”. I adore the heroine here, Jemma, and the backstory of how she got to be who she is - and what she’s doing about it. Add in three sexy hunks who are clearly based on guys you might’ve heard of, Sherlock, John (that’s Watson to you) and Garrett (Lestrade if you’re wondering) and this is a clear winner. So now I’m at The Hounds of Devotion (Book 3). Read the publisher’s blurb for a perfectly good description that doesn’t spoil anything important. Then add to it that this is pure unadulterated fun that’s well written and full of great characters. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Now Moriarty is free of the contract with the shrouded folk she can start to destroy all their influence in the world. To help her she has her right-hand man Bash and her three new allies - Sherlock, John, and Garrett although she does worry that her growing affection for them will dull her edge in what she has to do. As it is when the shrouded folk discover her intentions they target her friends which makes her wonder - is it a good idea to involve them or will she put them in too much danger?

I really enjoyed this instalment of the story and the way that the characters and their personalities and interactions developed as we got deeper into it. It was interesting to observe the way the shrouded folk affected the four men and how they each coped with the effects of it. It all ends with a cliff hanger and so I'm intrigued as to what happens next. A well-written story that was easy to understand and empathise with the characters.

To be a functional team, they must be able to work together in harmony before they can take down the enemy. With only one book left, this book is just about it!

Because of the Shrouded folk's influence, we learn about the London trio and Bash's histories and how they accept their weakness, deal with jealousy, and get closer to Jemma. So, the story in this book is more towards self-discovery.

I enjoyed reading about them coping with the emotional battles and how Jemma expertly led the group. She was a bright and sensual character, and I loved this book because there were more supernatural elements in the play, just as I requested, and the cliffhanger was brutal!

But I couldn't help but notice that Sherlock had only two chapters dedicated to him in this book. I want to know what's going on in his brilliant brain when dealing with supernatural forces!

Noooo, a cliffy!

Somewhere in my befuddled mind there was a weird notion that this lovely series of Moriarty's Men would only consist of three books, but the rather chilling cliffhanger in Book #3 has obviously corrected that erroneous impression of mine. But man, that was one wild ride to get to that cliffy! This book was full of doubt, desperation, and yes, devotion! At times, the suspense was killing me, and at other times I felt sad and confused seeing these great minds under supernatural interference and influence. Moriarty's men are truly devoted to her, each in their unique ways, but what will happen after that damn (but totally awesome) cliffhanger?!

Now it's a looooong wait until.. September?

Jemma, Bash, Sherlock, John, and Garrett continue their fight against the shrouded folk and their human minions in this third book of the series. The stakes grow higher as the otherworldly beings launch an attack of their own. The five avengers begin to experience mental confusion and frightening dreams that leave them testy and on edge. When one of them almost dies, Jemma considers going it alone. Her men have other ideas though. The literal cliffhanger will leave you cursing, or at least thinking unkind thoughts.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

**** No Spoilers ****
Eva did an excellent job with continuing the storyline. Book 3 starts off with some serious things going on. Jemma and her men are going after the monsters. Only this time, things get out of hand. One of the guys gets hurt. Jemma has a hard time with the emotions that brings up. Then a monster gives her something that changes everything. The ending is a huge cliffhanger! I was like OMG no!
•••••• I highly recommend this book/series! ••••••

Book 3 of this wild series was a blast to read. It was had its hot sex in single to multiple partners based in between a background of Jemma and the men working together to try and destroy a real cult with supernatural leanings. There was a bit of action, mystery, intrigue, and Sherlock being Sherlock with John, Garrett, and Bash adding to the fun. If you like hot sex with your mystery this is a good book to read. I found it was a fun easy story to read and try to guess what would come next and see if Jemma and the guys could really work and love together. I liked it.

I adore this reverse harem series by Eva. It is a great new twist on the Holmes world. This picks up in a new city where Moriarty and Bash are chasing down the cult and shrouded folk. Together they team up once again with Holmes, Watson and Garrett to expose their exploits to the authorities. In the mix emotions run high and the danger gets closer to the group than ever before. Contains mm, mf, and mmf scenes. All of which are intense. I can't wait for the next one! This one leaves you hanging on for more!!

Holy hell in a handbasket !

Wow......
I love this story and how all the characters are coming together despite all the difficulties and twists thrown at them. And the ending....OMG..... Being a fan of the original Sherlock stories, I was wondering if something like this may happen in Eva's series. I literally yelped as I finished the book and wanted to dive right in to the next one, but being the good reader I am, took time to write this review :-) Be ready for some twists & turns & oh #@&! moments.

Loved this, the story just gets better with every instalment. I just got drawn deeper into all the characters and their tangled emotions. I really want Jemma to find her happy ending, and even if she is a criminal she never comes across as a bad guy so you find yourself routing for her despite the fancy you know she does some slightly shady things. Eva Chase writes all the Sherlock Holmes characters really well, you do feel like they are the characters they’re supposed to be. It’s very well written and it was a joy to read.

I am loving this series. I really like Jemma now that she is actually letting herself feel. There is still enough suspense and tricks by the shrouded folk that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't say much without spilling beans, and that I won't do. I am becoming overly fond of Bash. However, I am furious with Jemma at the end. She has a lot to make up for in my book. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Started out promising, however, this is the 3rd in the series and it seems that the author has one trend common to all her series that I have read so far. They can barely keep my attention past the second book. I was 1/2 way through when I tossed it out in favor of some more interesting books. I kept coming back to try and see if the story would get more interesting, but I just couldn't get connected to Jemma or her men anymore.

The heat definitely rises in this third book in the series. You really get to see the relationships develop as they take on the cult.

They are all being influenced by each other and the situation and you get to see who they really are as they struggle with their pasts.

The ending was really hard for me and I can't wait to see what is next.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

The adventure continues for Jemma and her boys and the chemistry keeps building with each new encounter. The conflict and suspense thickens but it seems that we find more questions than answers. The danger increases and sacrifices must be made. Can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens next!

I didn't like it as much as the first two. Nothing bothered me too much but it was small things I didn't like, for example Gareth's 'i love you' felt rushed. Also I would have expected more meddling from the shroud than some dreams and pushes. They could have send people with guns like they did in Chile. Maybe I wanted more action and more romance.
