There were parts of the story I enjoyed. But then other parts that I wondered how it got from one point to the other. The time frame also seems off and at times the characters seem inconsistent with their thoughts/beliefs. And the main characters seem way too lucky. It's almost like an action movie. You know the ones where you think if a person really did that they would be dead. Or at least have difficulty moving. Yet they keep going as if nothing was wrong.
I am torn about whether or not to continue with the series.

I don't know what age group this book is written for, but by the time I finished I felt like I'd spent hours listening to a teenaged girl babble. I've read lots of YA that was far more interesting than this tripe. The dialogue was unbelievably bad, there were holes in the plot, and I felt like I was reading the third installment of a series rather than the first, as there was so much going on that I felt totally out of the loop of. 2 stars was generous.

What’s up with Amazon passing YA fiction as science fiction. First book was interesting enough that I got the second one. Gave up by the middle of it . This series audience is slightly nerdy 13 yo girls. Passing on the rest of the series

Liked the premise but the execution was not good . By the end of the book I was cringing. Falloff unrealistic shoot outs and annoying characters. Don't remember putting this on my tar but that's nothing new. Sometimes I'm presently surprised. Not this time.

A seriously wonderful new book. It starts a new series and I seriously recommend it to one and all.
I thought the concept of this book was really good (or great).
The characters all wear their hats, white or black, with great aplomb. The base line is we are not alone and most if it all of the conspiracy theories are valid.
The story is e,freely fast moving and will keep everyone on the edge of their respective seats.

I found this book to be juvenile and silly. I plowed through it to painfully finish it but certainly won’t take the trilogy any further. It is full of stupid cliches, silly banter between characters and inappropriate swearing. The story line is over-the-top foolish with artificially drawn villains and impossible escapes.

Once again, Nick has written to perfection.
Following on from 'The Signal' this long awaited continuation brings to life the characters of Lauren one of the main characters of 'The Signal ' and her continued search for the truth behind both the demise of the Sentinel AI, but more inextricably linked to the events happening in our skies and more importantly The Angelus those who visited earth millennia ago.
UFO sightings, MI5 interfering, A Secret, well funded group intent on killing anyone and everyone who leaks or follows anything to do with keeping humankind in the dark over anything not of this Earth.
Having read all of nicks books to date: I for one cannot wait for the next book in this trilogy that is part of a much greater arc.
Another book that once started, has action, intrigue, drama that makes you keep reading to the very last page.

Thrilling!
I read "The Signal" and met the character Lauren, I began to like her. When I read "Earth Song", I fell in love with her. As well as Jack and Mike (whom I’m a bit suspect towards right now). The character development is fantastic, you ride along this journey as though you’re right beside them. This story is so compelling and so much potential that when I read Cook has plans for multiple books to fill this series, in mind, I was excited.
I have found an author I truly enjoy.
Anyone, who love science fiction, this is a must read. Additionally, there is such great wit woven into intense and violent scenes, and I don’t see that often in this genre.
Cook has quickly become one of my favorite writers, right up there with Jame A Corey, George RRMartin, Anthony James and Young!
I am excited to take this ride with this author, I recommend you do too!

On one side, this is almost too easy a read, full of highly unlikely outcomes to various situations. But on the other hand, it's a page turner, as a reader, you're always keen to see what happens next. What else can you ask from a book, all be it lacking on the "intellectually challenging" front.
My main gripe is that there are so many books in the series and the books are relatively short. So I'll fork out for the next book in the series, then make a decision on future books in the series some other time.
The plot shows great imagination by Nick Cook. As an Astrophysicist, the subject matter is appealing to me, but I need to move onto a couple of more high-brow books next, before coming back to slot in the next book.

Good start........but-
Loved the ancient astronauts theme. Hated the bumbling shoot/don't shoot schtick. The only mishap missing involving firearms in this story was one of the characters shooting themselves in the foot or another portion of their anatomy. I did expect it actually. No spoiler intended, but the motorcycle incident. SERIOUSLY????? All I can say is a truck makes a nice battering ram. (What can i say? I live in New Jersey) Still, I find this start of a series intriguing enough to try the second volume. Hopefully by the start of the second book the characters know they'd better get tough or die.
Off to get the second book.

In the stars?
Not much of a science fiction geek but I had to try this book. Loved it!
I understand the premise of the storyline, but some of the technical jargon kind of blew right over my head. What if this was true? Maybe we
have our aliens waiting in the wings...are we ready for that?
Characters were great! Lauren is Lara Croft & Wonder Woman all wrapped up in one...as is the Viking...Jack...can't wait for that story to evolve!

2.5 stars rounded up. Some interesting ideas, and I loved that the action took place at Skara Brae (we've actually been there, and it is awesome), but... couldn't get past some of the wooden characterizations, and also the author's habit of using "whilst" instead of "while." (Yeah, that's kind of picky, I know, but it bugged me.) The Afterword by the author was interesting in a different way... UFO conspiracy theories, fringe physics, etc. Anyway, I gave it a chance, and I'm not interested enough to continue the series. YMMV.

A fun Sci fi action thriller
You will enjoy the style of writing. There's a way that really imaginative authors can describe the environment, plot, and characters that are especially engaging. Nick Cook would not let me put this one down. Particularly if you are interested in UFOs. What if those kooky fringe conspiracy guys are right? I was taught about inductive and deductive logic, but without physical evidence or repeatability, it's impossible to be certain about UFOs. Earth Song took me on a really fun tour of pure conjecture.

Cook is excellent at writing action adventure with interesting interacting characters and some intriguing SF hooks. The use of synesthesia here is a nice touch. The story interested me enough to read his novella length story The Signal that is a prequel to this novel and referenced several times in Earth Song. I will continue reading the series of books in the trilogy as they hold my interest and that isn't often with typical action adventure stories with MI5, secret organizations, and derring do characters often involved in gunfights.

Five stars plus many more. I loved this book and you will to, I just ordered the second one in the series. You will be on the edge of your seat . Page after page it's a thrill. You dont need to be a lover of sifi to like this book. It's written very well from an author who has real talent . Give yourself a gift of fun and excitement and get this book.

Buying the series!
I read Earth Song in one day. I'm buying the rest of the series now. The plot, the slow reveals of ever-deepening layers upon layers, and the characters are amazing. The technology behind it all is fascinating as well. But the characters will leave you wanting more! I can't wait to start gobbling up the rest. This is the first book by Nick Cook that I've read, and I'm very happy to have found someone new to follow.

Multi-dimensional action!
A well-written story with a surprising amount of action. There are some great topics covered including quantum physics, UFOs/ancient alien contact, artificial intelligence, and higher dimension reality. The transformation of the main character, Lauren, from a radio astronomer to a front-line soldier is amazing, if a little unbelievable. I very much enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I read this book last week, not realising there was a prequel but it's perfectly possible to get everything out of this book without reading it (though I probably will). It's a first contact story with a few intertwined conspiracy theories thrown in, but above all, it's a fantastic, rollicking adventure story. Lauren is a feisty heroine and I really want to know how she, Jack and Mike get on. First of a series.

An intricate story of artificial intelligence and aliens. After reading The Signal by this author, I was ready to read lots more. That story gave the introduction to this one but you will understand Earth Song on it's own. I found the story fascinating right from the beginning with it being written from the eye of an AI.

Great reading
Smooth writing, good flow, easy to follow as in keeps one hooked and wanting more. Beware ! You’ll be surprised how far you will read at one time because it is “easy to read” dispute an amazing story line full of science and wonderment, physics and reality vs magic and possibilities.

Interesting concept, but the author does not know what he wants this book to be; sci-fi? Espionage thriller? Military-industrial complex commentary? YA novel? In the end, not that enjoyable and it feels like it was written for the non-discriminating reader or maybe teens. I will not be pursuing additional titles in this series or by this author.

Started slow, but WHAM, I couldn't put it down after getting about 1/3 into this book!
Absolutely outstanding, and not the normal Sci-Fi book as this takes place completely on Earth.
I bought the second book in this series, and in one sitting read 40% of it. That's how good it is!
Highly recommended.

Science fic
Expected some real info about secret stuff.
when i found out it is fic. it was too late to stop reading. 2 other books I had started were neglected.
The story is good, like most of the kind rather overdrawn. Never mind, it is fully enough if the books characters vomit, no need for me to copy.

Very fast action
The heroine has a special eye sight enabling to see sounds as colours. This allows her to see messages from another dimension. Other forces want the power as well, leading to a rollercoaster ride through a very hectic tale.

Pleasantly Surprised
I read the first book of this series by Nick Cook (The Signal) quite awhile ago and enjoyed it. The technology was fascinating and characters memorable in (Earth Song) . I would recommend this book to anyone who likes expanded technology. No spoilers here.

Stunning
This is an incredible read! Mixing science, archaeology, geophysics, aliens, and mystery, it all works! Not sciencey enough to turn off some readers and not overly dumbed down, it's a perfect mixture. Highly enjoyable! The world building and characters are fantastic.

Great reading
You get the sense of Contact, X=Files and Stargate, Indiana Jones and Lara Croft all rolled into one book. Action is non-stop along with some scientific lessons along the way. Looking forward to read all this series.

I don't think I've had this much fun since DaVinchi Code -- and sci-fi to boot! The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending -- not the content but the principal that it ended. I want to hear where this story leads to next.
