This is a full-length, science-fiction/science-fantasy, MFM alien romance novel that was previously published as part of a two-book collection with The Scorpion's Mate. This is a revised edition with significant additional story content. Though she was raised by a survivalist, Alice was not prepared to be ripped from her dimension and dropped without ceremony into the massive junkyard of a parallel dimension. She’s wounded, alone, and lost in a world her mind struggles to comprehend. Then a four-armed alien with the face of a dangerous lion reveals that his heart is not so predatory, when he comes to her aid and saves her life. Because of her wounds, she has no choice but to accept his help. She finally begins to grow comfortable around her leonine companion, until another warrior intervenes to save her when creatures from the Dead Fall attack them during their exploration, suddenly making everything much more complicated. Alice still doesn’t understand what either of the warriors is saying, and if she can’t find the right words to soothe her beastly new protectors, they’ll end up killing each other. Author’s 18+ These books contain scenes that are not suitable for younger audiences. It should also be noted that the alien heroes in these books are alien in both appearance and attributes, and this might make some readers uncomfortable, as their cultures and mating habits might not be for everyone.
Born a dragon, but forced to take human form to fit into those little baby carriers, Susan accepted that she'd have to live a mortal life. She just wasn't going to go around being all boring about it. As soon as she was old enough, she immediately applied for an alien abduction, but got wait-listed, so she made her lair in the desert to wait out the coming zombie apocalypse with a pair of magical cats (they can appear underfoot in an instant, usually at the steps) and the dog from Hades that has three heads (and now has three bodies to go with them).
When the white knight came to fight the dragon, Susan liked him so much she decided to marry him and they now have a beautiful little dragonlet. (Who looks just like a little girl unless you use a magic mirror)
Fortunately, despite being trapped in this dimension, Susan uses her dragon's vision to see all the most interesting goings-on in the multiverse. Figuring they made great stories, she decided to share them with the rest of the mortal world, by writing fantasy, science fiction and romance.
MFM romance with two very alien-looking aliens on a dystopian planet where portals open at random to drop disparate people into one big junkpile. The setting reminded me of Thor: Ragnarok where Thor & the Hulk both end up on the planet of lost souls or whatever it was called.
The worldbuilding was really fun and fleshed out, leaving space for both a post-apocalyptic scramble to survive plotline and a more idyllic “House on the Alien Prairie” mood once they find their groove. Alice, the heroine, gets two alien love interests who come from the same planet but are different (enemy) species with distinct cultures.
The development of the romance was well-paced, with the characters warily approaching each other at first and sticking together out of necessity, then later coming to warm up to each other (literally, in Tak’s case) and finding each other attractive.
The one letdown was the heroine, who was ridiculously needy and insecure, constantly jumping to conclusions about the men’s behavior and throwing tearful fits when she didn’t like those conclusions.
Normally, it’d be a frosty day in hell before I side with a man in a relationship conflict, but in cases like these, where the heroine needs constant reassurance and validation, I really do wonder how (and why) her lovers put up with that bullshit.
This was especially annoying given Alice’s past—her father was everyone’s classic Weird Survivalist Uncle Living in the Woods, who raised her and her sister to survive in the wild and defend against threats. Yet as soon as she’s in a life-or-death situation, Alice dissolves into tears and is actively unhelpful. She never actually puts her alleged skills to use.
*3.5* This story begins with Alice, suddenly transported to a hostile alien planet, where she is set upon by large worms with teeth. She is saved by a giant lion-faced, four-armed alien.
MFM unconventional romance Inter-dimensional adventure No sword crossing Survivalist Language barrier for more than 70% of the story Cliffhanger ending
Alice battles injuries, isolation, and the shock of her new environment. Iyaren (Lion hero) and Alice are able to communicate basic necessities. I really enjoyed their relationship and the unexpected kindness and trust between them. Their camaraderie is complicated when another warrior arrives. Tak is very much a lizard-man, and previously sworn enemy of Iyaren’s clan.
While the core of the story is strong and its premise deeply engaging, the writing occasionally feels shaky and unorganized. At times, scenes lack cohesion or depth.
The heroes never have intimate relations with her while in the same room, so while this is a mfm romance, there are no group scenes. Ends with a frustrating cliffhanger. Off to read the second.
This was an intriguing scifi tale that evolved into an erotic menage. At first, it was just a survival story featuring a human woman and a leonine alien, both stranded on a strange world. Anticipating some form of attraction, I was pleasantly surprised by the introduction of a second alien male. As gruff warriors, I didn't expect the emotional depth they experienced, and the way they set aside their animosity.
There is a lot more scifi and survival than erotic sex in this story - it is well balanced and intense in places.
The story ends with a "to be continued", but not a cliff-hanger. I will read the next one.
I'm always on the lookout for sci-fi romance with out of the ordinary world-building and I think I found a gem with this book. The Dead Fall is weird and dangerous and not the type of place a (mostly) normal girl from Earth can survive in on her own.
AND I LOVED IT.
So. Alice. She's got some survival skills and they definitely come in handy, but it's Iyaren's honorable streak and his badass fortress that makes the difference. Well, that, and her growing feelings for him. Iyaren gives her the chance to heal after the damaging arrival at Dead Fall and his kindness and strength give her a reason to think she might have a future on this alien world.
Of course, Iyaren is from a very different culture and his inability to communicate with Alice leads to a few misunderstandings. Still, his honor and HIS growing feelings for her smooths over those rough spots.
Then Tak comes into the picture and things get a little more complicated. Because Iyaren and Tak are enemies of a sort and it takes a while before they realize they're going to have to work together if they want to keep Alice both safe and happy.
And, BOY, is she happy with those two looking after her.
I LIKE. And I'm definitely raising my hand for the next book in this series.
Alice is rescued by Iyaren and their trust slowly builds. Tak joins the group rather suddenly and is quickly integrated...I guess his pheromones helped.
I wanted a true menage, but I think their relationship is still evolving.
NOTE:Susan Trombley writes aliens that actually look like aliens and I mean very very alien. So if that’s something that is not really your thing than better skip this author altogether. If you can look past that, totally recommend! 😬
What I love about her book is that there’s always a mix of plot, action, world building, character development and of course smut, but the alien smut is not really the main point. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against a good alien smutty book, when im in the mood for it, but more often than not its just that.. alien porn.
Her series usually have a great ongoing plot and overarching characters so its better to read them in order but I suppose could be read as standalones too.
This book was pretty good, would have been a 4.5 stars if not for the heroine, Alice. Alice is useless pretty much the entire book, she’s bland and boring, blushes all the time and to be honest I think her guys deserved better than her . I mean I know not every heroine can be a superwoman with sass and skills, but give me a break!🙄🙄 at least try a bit. I also completely missed the chemistry and connection with either Tak( lizardman) or Iyaren ( lion man). I was rooting for this guys bromance pretty hard. They had more chemistry in their interactions than with the heroine. Her relationship with Iyaren was pretty slow burn, but Tak speeds things up and they get down and dirty after they met him.
Overall, a great start to this series and I’ll definitely continue because Evie , her sister , seems to be my kind of gal 😬
Raised by a prepper, Alice understands living without. But after driving out to the middle of nowhere with her sister, then being dragged through a Nexus and deposited in somewhere that makes middle of nowhere look like a metropolis? That's a nope. Waking up to find giant worms are trying to eat her is just the beginning. Discovered quickly by a giant 4 armed..male lion like being saved her life but left her questioning her sanity. She's pretty sure she's not in Kansas anymore and Toto ran off and left her in this inter wasteland.
Spoilers ahead. This is a revamped version of her original duo. She's separated them out and added to the story. And it's even better! I had originally thought that Alice was, well, a weenie. For someone raised prepper she didn't seem to have a handle on things. We get more insight on why that is now. We get Iyaren's and Tak's POV, too. She really enhanced the story and I'm thrilled. We get a lot more background on the cultures that the guys come from, Omni as a whole, there's a little more plot going on and I'm glad to see this story go from a good quick read to a great novella in a continuing series.
Heroine falls in love with two different alien heroes (and I liked it)
Alice is not happy when her sister takes her to their late father's prepper hideout that is full of alien memorabilia. Alice doesn't believe in aliens (or arming herself to the teeth, like her sister Evie does), but unfortunately for her, apocalypse dad was right. Aliens are real, and unfortunately for Alice, her unsuspecting sister just opened a gateway to a faraway world - the dead fall!
Alice is drawn into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, is assaulted by killer worms and mauled, only to be rescued by a big, scary lion man who may or may not be planning on making her his next dinner. When she wakes up nearly naked and very afraid, she finds out that lion man is as smart as she is, but unfortunately he does not speak English.
The language barrier prevents meaningful conversations, but Alice gets to know Iyaren pretty well regardless. That is, until an fire-breathing enemy lizard from Iyaren's world turns up and decides to steal Alice from right under Iyaren's nose!
Tak, the hostile (to Iyaren) lizard man, is actually a nice addition to the dynamic, because he can understand what Alice says, despite being unable to make her understand him.
That being said, I was way less excited about the MFM romance than about the true ship in this book that had violent, interesting tension: Iyaren and Tak.
Since lion people and lizard people were at war in their home world, Tak and Iyaren are dangerously at odds despite speaking each other's languages, and it's EXCITING. I love those two and their dynamic. They have interesting dialogues, interactions and scenes. Way more interesting and tense than anything that involves Alice, lol.
Which brings me to the down-side: Alice just isn't a very convincing anchor for these two very different people. While I get that there is a physical attraction going on, the rest is just sketchy as to why on earth anyone could possibly find a boring person like her so fascinating. And not one, but two hot alien men! Yeah, it's ludicrous. Especially since Iyaren and Tak have better chemistry together than either of them have with her.
I guess the author made the smart choice when never allowing them to get touchy feely all three of them together, because no one would have wanted to notice Alice anymore.
So yeah. I liked it. But this would have been a greatest hits book if only Alice had tragically died in the beast attack so Iyaren and Tak could end up together.
1 star. DNF 49%. Noooooo . Can’t go one anymore. It started out well enough. I was looking forward to a slow burn between Alice and lion boy. She gets dumped down a wormhole into some kind of post apocalyptic world. Lion boy saves her. They speak different languages and have difficulty communicating but he’s sweet and patient and she tries her best to acclimate. Nothing wrong with that story. I was hoping they would slowly start to fall in love and communicate better... overcome some evil... end of great story. Nope. Instead Alice becomes more and more incompetent. For a girl who was raised by a doomsday prepper she is painfully inadequate to do anything (including cooking) but no worries. Lion boy has so much respect for the female race that he considers it his fault if she has to do anything at all. If that wasn’t annoying enough. A second player is introduced with which Alice falls in insta-lust because he can alter his pheromones to some kind of crack that she can’t refuse. Ugh... gross. She feels shame towards lion boy because here’s this stranger who she all of a sudden also very much lusts after and wants to trust (because of pheromones). That is not romantic and also not consent! Things just went more and more downhill and I didn’t want to continue. This is not a read worthy story in my opinion.
This was (for me) an above average alien / human romance but I would have preferred if there was a little more sexy times.
Alice in on an alien planet, she is not sure how she got there and can't understand her rescuer. Iyaren is the lion-like alien that finds Alice and rescues her from flesh eating monster worms. Tak is also an alien and joins Iyaren and Alice to complete the "relationship".
I enjoyed the fact that there was a language barrier and that made for some humorous reading. I also loved the fact that there was some alien peen included in this book - we talking about some bumps/ridges and at the end, barbs are present.
Well written from a multiple pov and can be read as a standalone although there is a semi-cliffhanger at the end that has to do with a new main character for the next book in the series.
I honestly did not get along with Alice. She is a weak character that was selfish. She is on a strange planet with a strange alien and not once does she think about her sister who was in the house with her when she disappeared. The guys are okay but not that romantic. The story got really interesting about 60% in and we started to see the settlement and the relationship between the characters getting heated. The wish washy and not being able to communicate were okay but the environment is what pulled me in. The animals and the way the vortex was set up that was awesome.
Check out our review of Into the Deadfall by Susan Trombley, a sci fi alien romance and the first in the Into the Deadfall series. If you want a menage romance with two very different alien heroes this is the one for you!
synopsis
Alice always thought her father was crazy. However, she’s beginning to reconsider. Falling through a vortex into a strange alien world on top of a pile of space junk, then being saved by a four armed furry alien can do that to a girl. It gets more complicated when another alien comes along and tries to entice her away, especially as she seems to be developing feelings for both of them. What’s a girl to do?
review
I’ve read a few books recently where the hero and heroine can’t understand one another so they have to communicate through their actions rather than their words. Into the Dead Fall comes under that heading. There’s something really…sweet? Honest? About taking spoken language out of the equation. Whatever it is, I find it charming, which is why I loved this book so much.
It also helped that I get two aliens instead of one in this menage romance. Although for clarity, there’s no M/M but rather two former enemies learning to tolerate and even like each other for the sake of the woman they both love. And, as they both come from societies where sharing a female isn’t unheard of, it isn’t such a big stretch for them.
in conclusion
If your tastes run similar to mine in the sci-fi romance arena, than I highly recommend that you give it a try.
Ok! This book was… odd. If you’re looking for a sci-fi, alien romance that feels a bit like exophilia, a bit like beastiality… this is the one for you.
Alice is a human who winds up getting sucked through a vortex and spat out on a wasteland-type planet. She meets a four armed alien who looks like a lion, and later a reptilian, lizard-like alien. I’m all for aliens that looks like aliens or monsters that looks like monsters, but when the character drawings directly compare them to actual animals from earth I feel a bit… squicked out.
On top of that, there was a language barrier until 70% in. I prefer it when that can be cleared up quickly because reading about characters living in silence or with gestures only is frustrating.
And finally - the world isn’t one that I enjoy reading. It’s barren and hostile which means she and her sister will be fighting throughout the series as men try to capture them to use them for money or sex. Sci-fi romance settings are so hit or miss if like me you don’t want to read about constant war and survivalism. We were really spoiled with the little ecosystem on Not Hoth (IPB).
So the first time I read this it was bundled with scorpions mate. Since its separate publishing I believe some edits and additions have happened. It's still a good book and a great starting point for this series. So while this book is a relationship with a mfm, menage type dynamic it's not a free for all kind of relationship; it's more like 2 separate relationships inside of 1. While everyone does care about everyone the romantic feelings are centered solely on the lady of the story. And that's fine because it works for these characters and their personalities which just like real people grow and develop and while some things change some will stay the same. So maybe we'll see their relationship dynamic change but if we don't it's still a hot and loving relationship that works well. I loved this authors continued creations of alien that are alien; While also still giving us some frames of reference like the Grey's or even creatures from legend to help us see these characters in our head. This author really knows how to build and flesh out her world's and characters so the suck you in and keep you wanting more. I can't wait to see what future stories hold in this series. And I can't wait to see other females dropped in and how they'll interact with characters like the sisters. Overall it's a really great story filled with hot romance adventure and even a few edge of your seat moments. Would definitely recommend.
Bonus book found at the end of the scorpions mate.
After falling through a worm hole into a dystopian barren junk pile world, Alice thinks her day couldn’t get any worse, finding herself separated from her sister Evie, she heads off in the hope to be reunited with her. Unfortunately after being set upon by the numerous poor ( but terrifying folks ) that have also been sucked into the dead fall, she finds herself needing to be rescued by a warrior lion/man alien... and Following an ( another ) attack whilst out scavaging ( and a sudden snowstorm from the wormhole ) Alice finds herself rescued by a warrior lizard alien.
After all suffering injuries a very fragile begrudging treaty between the three is made. Alice finds herself at odds with her feelings because she had found herself falling for I ( lion man ) but is attracted to Tak ( lizard alien ). I felt for Alice, I really did.. her conflict and torn emotions.. between two people who were sworn enemies. OOOOHHH LOVE TRIANGLE! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Absolutely cracking book. So original and unique and just a fantastic read from start to finish. I loved the non communication/communication in this book. I adore some misunderstanding via body language it makes for the BEST of reads. This was a total pleasure to read and I cannot wait for the next in series.
This was the bonus story after . It's a KU. Alice and her sister Evie were raised by a survivalist father who believed in aliens. Eventually they were raised by their grandparents. Evie is going through a bitter divorce and runs away to their father's survivalist cabin with Alice in tow. There an alien device is activated and Alice is pulled through a dimensional rift and deposited onto a mountain of junk. She is rescued by the four armed kanta warrior, Iyaren. Some attraction and adventures then they are joined by Iyaren's enemy Tak. We all know where this is going, a mini reverse harem. It wasn't a bad story. I like it enough that I'll read Evie's story in the second book. It's my first book by Susan Trombley. She's not a bad writer and I'll read more of her books when I'm in the mood for an alien hero.
I guess that sums up the surprise and the emotions. It wasn't a meaningfull read like Of Another Dimension. But... It was interesting and sweet! The MC isn't as good as the ones fromThe Kraken's Mate &The Scorpion's Mate. Will review better later.
This one was pretty awesome. I liked that it wasn't a cookie cutter romance that you often see even in paranormal. Alice gets not one but two very non-human mates and the differences between them are exciting and exotic. Iyaren is the serious stoic warrior while Tak is the more relaxed and teasing type.. but what they both have in common is their desire to protect the woman they love.. the Fall as they call the world they've all been dropped in, is very dangerous at all times because of the constant threat of the vortex dropping strange creatures or even harsh climates on them at a moments notice so they always have to be ready. I very much recommend this one and I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

A slow burn, sweet scifi romance. The H is cat-like alien, h is human and very unsure of herself. He cares for her so sweetly, and doesn't believe he deserves her but is so protective. Then a 2nd H finds them, he too decides that the h is his mate. There are major communicate issues for all of them, and the 2nd H is the key to resolving them. Together they make their poly relationship work, both the Hs adore the h.
A really different sci fi reverse harem romance. What an imagination Ms. Trombley has ! This book has action , adventure , romance , sadness and secksy times. I don't understand any reviews saying that it was just okay. It was more than okay but you have to read it to find that out !
This book is so, so odd. I think it's the set-up to a longer series, and I hope it is, because the world building is the strongest part of the story. (The romance, not so much.) I did like Alice, who generally makes sensible decisions in the face of adversity, and is relatable when she doesn't.
It was flat. The FMC was annoying in her insecurities, so was Iayen in his obedience. Though, it is the first time in a book where the FMC chooses to keep close to her the ML rather than sacrificing one of them in order to save her sister. …which comes knocking at her door in the epilogue 🤮 Boring.

This was interesting. Alice took a back seat for me as Iyaren and Tak Et worked through their history and became frenemies. I hope the author writes Evie's story.
