Wilde Justice #3

The Hallowed Knight

Rate this book
The world is full of magical things...

With a day job that requires her to hunt down psychics who use their metaphysical gifts as weapons, Tarot-reading Justice of the Arcana Council Sara Wilde has no time for fairy tales. So when her newest case pleads for her assistance against brownies, sprites, and pixie dust, she's more than ready to file it under "not a chance."

But these Neo-Celts mean business, with a boldly charismatic leader who vows to return the world to the iron-fisted rule of the ancient gods. That plan infuriates the fiercest member of the Arcana Council, Death, whose deep Irish roots hide more secrets than Sara ever realized, and draws the focus of the dark-eyed, seductive Magician, deftly weaving his ever more twisted schemes.

At the Council's behest, Sara plunges headlong into Irish folklore, fantasy, and the very real, very frightening truth of the spaces between worlds, where the darkest memories go to hide... Memories that could upend everything Sara's finally claimed as her own.

Travelers beware! The fairies will all come out to play when you chase The Hallowed Knight.

The Hallowed Knight is the third installment in author Jenn Stark's Wilde Justice series. The story picks up 5 months after Tarot-card reading Sara Wilde helped defeat a God which has lead to a major influx of magic. Sara is now Justice of the Arcana Council. The first Justice in 200 years. As the first Justice of the Arcana Council in two hundred years, Sara Wilde is tasked with taking out the most dangerous magic-wielding criminals on the planet. But, can she stand against Irish folklore and attempts to bring back old gods?

Up to now the series has been exciting with action and magic all building up to a finale. The finale is here. . . or is it. Now that the Green Knight has revealed himself and the Hallowed Knight has assisted him in pushing his agenda, there is a splitting of sides in the natural and the council. The Magician and Justice, deep sigh, what is building between them and just how much can it be. There are many answers in this third book of the series yet it brings to mind a crap load more. This author keeps the action popping barely allowing the restraint to not throw your kindles. But there are explosive times in this book and it's had not to get caught up in the action and magic. It's a well written tale which will keep you spinning and reeling from the revelations, discussions and the solutions. It's an emotional read since there are some points when things go horribly side ways, but not to worry before you can get buried in that emotion things will change. Buckle up and prepare yourself for the ride.

I found Ms. Stark as an author with the book "Getting Wilde, Immortal Vegas". 17 books later we have The Hallowed Knight. Sara is now Justice of the Arcana council. With burgeoning magic and in charge of dispensing justice, Sara is sent to Ireland to quell a charismatic connected bound on exposing magic with the release of long vanquished foes from beyond the in between. Stop the movement, or dispense justice. The epic battle to keep them from taking back the world has unfathomable consequences. Bated breath cliffhanger, yes indeedy. This is a phenomenal series I would recommend to anyone who likes this genre. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

Faeries! Ireland! MORE DEATH!! I love these but I always feel that there's a slow build up and then boom! there's a whole sequence of action at the end that doesn't always quite make sense, and you're never really sure what's going on. I did enjoy this one a lot though - Sara has (another) power level up and we have more of Nikki (seriously though - I always want more Nikki) and Dixie makes a return. I like that Sara is a bit bitchy and almost normal. Also - Gamon!! MORE GAMON. Essentially good, with a few bits where I wasn't too sure about what was going on.

Jenn Stark has become a wordsmith to be reckoned with, folks! Pay attention!

I have loved Sara Wilde and her crew of friends and Arcane Council members from the day I opened the first Immortal Vegas book. She was this complete person, snark in abundance, wisdom hiding, just waiting to come out, insecurities most feel at some point in their lives and love galore to give to those who are worthy as well as those who are not. And I loved her.

I had read the entire Immortal Vegas series, mourning over the perceived loss of Sara and cohorts. I was so sure the series was at an end and I grieved. Then Jenn decided to continue the series with Wilde Justice. Yay!

More Sara, more Armaeus (The Magician) , more everyone! But, I wasn’t really sure how much further she could take these characters and keep it as interesting as they originally were.

Well, allow me to say, Holy Crow! Never again will I doubt her ability to create a literary world for the ages. I have to say that Jenn Stark is probably the best UF author out there, and not enough people are aware of that fact. Her ability to draw you in and capture you as surely as if you were wrapped in chains, right now, is virtually unsurpassed. And yet, far too few seem to be aware of this. Wake Up People! Smell the prose!

In book 3 of Wilde Justice, we are shown Sara Wilde in her newest role as Justice of the Council, which puts her in a position to correct wrongs throughout the world. Wrongs being done to or by the Connected. This basically sets her above the Council in that she can police them as well. While she does not administer judgment, she does bring these people to Judgement (another Connected granted the power of distributing judgment in accordance with her position but only once Sara has brought them to her). So, still, Sara, at the top.

Now, in my beloved Ireland, an extremely powerful, and extremely arrogant zealot has decided it’s time the Connected take over the world, unaware (or is he?) of the attention he has drawn to the issue. Attention he probably wouldn’t want. In comes Sara to monitor, assess, and decide whether this person needs stopping or not.

Our Sara is not one to condemn anyone without some proof that they are indeed guilty. So Jenn Stark goes ahead and writes the novel of her career around this idea. Around this soul-deep quandary. She takes us down the path that Sara needs to follow to come to complete terms with what is happening around the world to those she considers her charges; the Connected. With words strung together in such a way that we are riveted until completion, Jenn Stark has given us a book that not only entertains, but teaches; that reaches out to our humanity and asks us, “Just because we can, does that mean we should?”

And as if this all isn’t enough, we reach the end of the book and…gods dammit! That’s it. That’s all I have to say on that.

I believe within the deepest confines of my mind and heart that Jenn Stark needs to take her place at the top of the UF authors. This quiet, unassuming author has written 16 books under this pen name. 10 Immortal Vegas, 3 Demon Enforcers, and now, 3 Wilde Justice. Yet still has not won the recognition she so richly deserves. Well, as far as I’m concerned, anyone who reads her series, beginning to end, will understand as I do that this woman has such a gift with words that every book to come out is one worth waiting for, not to mention one worth purchasing and reading.

This chapter in Sara Wilde’s life was so splendidly done, Jenn Stark! So wonderfully, exceptionally done indeed! In case you haven’t noticed, I am such a huge fan. Thank you for continuing our sojourn into the life of Sara Wilde et al.

This book was received as an ARC. This review is given in my own words and of my own volition. That being said, on May 29, 2019, I will also be a proud, paying owner of this book as well.

ná bíodh eagla ort an dorchadas (don't be afraid of the darkness)

Sara Wilde goes to Ireland…. And I cannot be more pleased. But let us start at the beginning.

The Las Vegas Joyful Spirit Psychic Festival is in town drawing Sara Wilde’s attention as the Justice of the Arcana Council. At first Sara does not seem interesting in this “fairy business” but decides to investigate as some other links to the Arcana Council are reveled. Once again someone is trying to reach the Old Gods and threaten to break havoc to our wold, this time around summoning the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Ancient Gods of the Celtic Pantheon.

I must confess Jenn Stark got me at “Celtlandia”… but holding a degree in Celtic Heritage myself, I was thrilled to see, not only where the story goes but how it will develop… it went to Ireland and to my most profoundly delight… it went to… Ireland… Jenn Stark has perfectly captured the essence of the country and its culture. As always, the author has managed to interweave a rich kilt, pun intended, of human nature critique, pop culture, and fantasy elements.

We get an insight in some of the key characters of the Series: Armaeus (The Magician), Simon (The Fool) and specially Blue’s (Death) past. We also witness the development of Sara’s skills and her relationships with Armaeus, Brody and Nikki. It has heartbreaking moments…. uplifting ones and funny ones (Nikki as Galadriel, you can beat that).

It is a great book, no…it is an amazing book, you will not want it to end and then… you WILL not want it to end and will keep asking for more…. fortunately, there are still a bunch of cards on the deck.

“The Hallowed Kind is the third installment in the “Wilde Justice” Series after “The Red King” and “The Lost Queen”, a directly follow up of the Immortal Vegas Series featuring Sara Wild as a magical-artifacts hunter, and undoubtedly the best of all Sara Wilde up-to-date… until the next installment…. Jenn Stark keeps on delivering the best urban fantasy out there… This verse deserves its own TV-Show, seriously!!!!!

So I love reading about Sara's journeys and escapades. This story for me was a little bit harder to get into. There were a lot of movement going on that was not explained. For instance - Sara was in a house after spending time with the Magician. She gets a call from the Fool and the next minute she is with him going to check out a situation. How did she get to him? There were a lot of stories going on throughout the book and staying on top of them was hard. Character names being thrown out and then revisited and I lost track of whose who. Suffice it to say my favorite of all characters besides the main Nikki was taken out of the game of helping Sara for a bit and I was not happy with that. You see how much Sara relies on Nikki without her being there. And how much she respects for her. So lets get back to the meat and bones of this story. Justice is called upon to investigate a new danger popping up in Ireland. Ireland it seems has a lot of history for some of the council members. Death, the Magician especially. So Sara being Sara does her thing. But before she even gets there- Las Vegas is affected by what is happening. We get to see Sarah again. Brody of course. But there is just so much going on that you loose track of what is going on. In the end things or sorted out. But it is not to everyone's liking. Things happen that Sara will be feeling the ramifications for a while. And the Magician will not be the same. Almost forgot- there is a new councilor that has popped. Whether they take their throne on the Strip that is to be learned. Either way- Will I re-read? I actually may. Like I said before there was so much going on it was hard to keep track of what happened. Do I recommend? Yes. Just be prepared to go back and re-read to see what is going on -on.

After a full series and beginning a new one, I am pleasantly surprised that Jenn Stark is still introducing new twists into the Sara Wilde books. This time Sara is faced with Celtic magicand mythology, something we haven't seen in the books previously. Las Vegas is the site of the beginning of a showdown between two factions, one looking to spread Celtic magic, and one looking to prevent magic from being spread in harmful ways. This struggle leads Sara to Ireland, new territory for the books which was a nice change of pace.

We also learn more about some favourite characters of mine: Death and Aramaeus. Blue becomes a bit less of a mystery with some new information about her past. Aramaeus' relationship with Sara continues to develop and we learn a bit about some limitations our favourite Magician has. Nikki is also along for at least some of the ride, and Simon gets some page time too.

The pacing was great until the end which, I must admit, felt fairly rushed. I'm used to the big events feeling a little more solid in these books so having this one feel like perhaps too many threads were being pulled together and not quite enough being dealt with in more momentous ways was a bit of a letdown. In many ways, the conclusion was actually the set-up for future books, with some definite questions remaining. I am definitely looking forward to finding out what the fallout is in the next book.

Regardless, this is another fun romp in Sara Wilde's world and it is definitely worth a read!

Hell yes! After ancient greek, egyptian and so many other lore, finally this one is about Celtic mythology! And those frickin' fairies. I love how much research Jenn does for her books and it totally shows in her works, love the way she implements certain mythological elements, stories and events into Sara's story and mixes them together. Such a brilliant author! I love that it's getting darker and darker but still has the perfect moments that cheer you up like Leeeeeerooooooy Jeeeeeenkins. Holy shit I literally was laughing at that for hours!! I love that this story is so fucking unpredictable and mind-blowing even if some twists frustrate the HECK out of me (literally every twist with the Magician and Sara's love story!! If they won't end up together I'll ragequit!!

I'm so in love with these characters - all of them - I want a spin-off for every single one of them... okay maybe not the Emperor, you can kill him. I want more of Sariah, the Devil, More Gamon-Sara interactions 'cause they're hilarious, more Death and definitely more Michael, my boi is waaaay underused!

Jenn is such an underrated author, if you're looking for an amazing ride full of action, magic, twists that blow your mind, different mythologies, gods and goddesses and unique characters AND an epic and different love story, pick up the Immortal Vegas series rigth about NOW!

The Hallowed Knight is Jenn Stark's third book in the Wilde Justice series. She takes lady Justice Sara Wilde deep into the tension between Death, druids and fae.

Opening on a psychic festival in Las Vegas, Justice is called to handle what seems to be a family squabble between a druidic father and son - a son who claims extraordinary powers as the mythical Green Knight. An attack on Sara and Nikki Dawes leaves both in a precarious state and leads the entire Arcana Council to Ireland (where none if them wish to go). There they might have to deal with the end of the world as we know it, foreshadowed by what may be the Hallowed Knight. At stake is virtually everyone Sara holds dear - and the fate of everything on the planet.

This book is great fun! A fast read that runs into, around and through most of the characters we came to know in the Immortal Vegas series. Jenn Stark's descriptive powers reach new heights as she guides us through the narrow spaces between her worlds.

I’ve been following Sara through the Immortal Vegas series and into the Wilde Justice series and the stories just get better and better, more entertaining and more compelling. Jenn Stark’s ability to keep her readers engaged is amazing – usually by now I would be bored, but Jenn has the skill to keep her readers satisfied and coming back for more.
Sara is suddenly forced to take another great leap in abilities during the challenges and adventures in this fast-paced story that has a strong plot, plenty of our favourite characters and an ending that left me counting down the days to the next book!
If you haven’t read any of Jenn’s books, before this one, you really need to read the first two in the Wilde Justice series, but I highly recommend all of Jenn’s books. She is one of the few authors I follow who keeps my interest through all her releases.

4.5/5

Admittedly I am a huge fan of Sara Wilde, and I continue to enjoy learning more about these characters.

This book is the best to date of Wilde Justice. I think Ms Stark has hit her stride and figured out the balance for this new phase of writing.

We learn more about members of the council — specifically Death, Armaeus, and Sara herself — which I always enjoy.

This book has one of if not the most effective international trips in both series.

There is a fair amount of interaction with Sariah in the early portion of the book that seems to end abruptly, but that may be a deliberate choice to establish a foundation for future stories. I do look forward to seeing more of Brody and Sariah interacting.

Well worth the time and $!

Were you sad when the Wilde Immortal Vegas series ended? Me too. This offshoot series fixes that! Not only do we get to continue to see what Sara and her menagerie are up to, there's more world development, plotting and explanations. I love a good series that doesn't stagnate, but continues to grow and keep me interested with authentic plot twists and explorations/adventures that take you down yet another road. When I pick up a Justice book, I get that and more. It's on my one-click with no questions asked list. No spoilers from me - it's just that good, so get to clicking! *Yes, I received an ARC for an honest review, but I buy them myself too because I love to revisit this world!*

Originally posted at Vampire Book Club

As Justice of the Arcana Council, Sara Wilde has grown accustomed to people asking her for help. When one such request is asking to help guard against fairies, Sara is ready to quickly dismiss this petition. Not so fast, however, as it comes out that the Green Knight of yore, aided in power by the Hallowed Knight, is stepping in to return the world to what it once was in the time of the Gods including giving Connecteds back the power they feel the Non-Connecteds are forcing them to repress.

Having just prevented a whole assembly of Gods from crossing the veil, Sara Wilde is loath to let someone else give it a try. In trying to prevent another potential apocalypse, Sara will learn more about herself, her powers, and everything In Between.

I love what Jenn Stark has painstakingly built with this series and its predecessor. The minute details from previous books that come back to play another, sometimes bigger, part down the line. With new revelations about Death and her history, and more about the connection between Sara and Nikki, there was so much stuff popping up I was giddy.

When thinking back on That Hallowed Knight there are two things that immediately come to mind. First off, the love between Sara and Nikki. It was a highlight for me this time around for sure, and mostly because circumstances happen in which they’re separated for a bit and Sara has to go about investigations on her own which is almost unheard of since they paired up in the first book. I love that, regardless of their established relationship, their friendship doesn’t just get swept aside, but instead Jenn Stark goes back time and time again to reinforce the connection, the bond, that Nikki and Sara have. The Hallowed Knight goes a long way in showing how essential they are to one another, in strength, in friendship.

In that regard I really like seeing Sara’s continuing comfort level with her still-developing powers. She learns some pretty interesting new tricks, but I felt like the pressure to actively learn more was lifted instead being brought on more organically, or in this case, in a time of need. And boy are they—and will they—be needed.

Bringing me to the second thing that comes to mind looking back: I won’t even be able to think about The Hallowed Knight without immediately going towards that ending. The final moments of the story really pack a punch. And subsequently have me clamoring to go back to previous books and put pieces together to see if we had been forewarned this entire time!

True story, I recently found myself thinking about how it’s been a long time since a book has left me with that pulled-heartstrings, gut-punched feeling. You know, leaving readers with a somewhat cliffhanger, our characters’ fates hanging in the balance. While maybe not that extreme, the ending of The Hallowed Knight was certainly unexpected and I’m so excited to see what a game-changer it could be for the remainder of the series—or at the least the next book in the series. Just trust that we’re always in good hands with Jenn Stark.

Sara is back!! Fantastic book!

Sara Wilde is now Justice and she continues to learn new caveats in her role. She can’t avoid the twists and trials her job as Justice seems to always throw at her. She is faced with a completely new challenge in this book. Nicki is hilarious and is not to mention always up for setting up her unique fashion trends!

I loved the dynamics between Sara and The Magician. The hot hot hot chemistry is still ever present.

The Devil is present and still has his devious personality.

This was a GREAT BOOK! I love the continual growth Sara has with every book.

This book has KICK! Highly recommend!

I have read all the books featuring Sara and really love to see her continue to grow stronger. In this book, she faces serious challenges and gets to interact with all my other favorites.

From start to finish, I enjoyed the story. It feels true to the characters and the relationships that have grown over the years. She and Magician are still very complicated in terms of their relationship. He has his secrets and she only gets little pieces at a time. I do love them together. I feel like her other half is going to really get her in trouble.

I highly recommend both of the series and warn you that they are addictive.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

How do you rate such an excellent book written by an awesome author such as Jenn Stark. I thought on this because five stars is not sufficient! If readers were given the choice of rating between zero to infinity, this book would get infinite stars!
Now about the story, read it with eyes wide open. It is hard to say much of anything without spoiling the story but there are a few things to say. Sara as Justice is growing and she is learning new way to do many things. Her relationship with the Armaeus, the Magician, has long been fraught with many good times and some bad times. In this story there is not doubt about the love Sara has for Armaeus is strong and the feeling goes both ways. And it is not just all the love he has for her because he has done so much to help Sara grow and to protect her.
Lots of happenings because Death plays a huge part in the story as both in past and the present. Simon is more than just the Fool but he has a level of knowledge which helps many. Nicki, has an important part to Sara’s changes but there is a twist to her part in the story. In trying to stop two brothers from destroying the world and parts of mankind. Sara will travel to Ireland and with the help of many from the Arcane Council will stop the brothers and save mankind. Read and follow all the plots and twists but be ready with the Kleenex because there is a major twist which will leave you wants no more but feeling the pain Sara is going to go through as she tries to help the man she loves!
Ms. Stark, when will the next book in the series be out because I need to know what is happening! Keep writing such excellent books!

Sara’s back, and the cards will fall as they may… and so much of what I love about this story falls under “spoiler alert”. Suffice to say, loved ones are threatened, the world may be about to end, and the Magician reaches his limits. It will keep you gripped until the very last page – and have you longing for more.

Buy it – you will love it!

This is the third installment in the Wilde Justice series and my favourite so far. Jenn Stark's books are all well written and this one doesn't disappoint, its another one that'll keep you up desperate to find out what happens next. I love that Death plays a part in this story as she's one of the most intriguing characters in the series. Definitely worth reading!

A Wilde Ride Indeed!

What began as a nice little ecchi tale has morphed into a truly exciting story with spine tingling excitement mixed with occasional ecchi episodes. These books have traditionally been sold as romantic fantasy. They deserve more widespread exposure. Read these, but not on a school of work night!

What a great story! The mystery was solid, and I am not a crier, but I totally lost it in the best of ways in this story! I know you hear this all the time, but I seriously can't wait for the next book in this series. I fell in love with the first series and worried this one wouldn't match it. This book hit it right out of the park! I recieved a copy of the book for an honest review.

This was an absolute killer!!!! I HATE THIS PARTICULAR TROPE!!!! AAAAARRRGGGGG!!!!! That saying, just means excellent writing. Nail biting, leg twitching and teeth gritting, I am amped up at the end of this. So Jenn Stark, you best be writing a hell of a rebound on this ending, cause this just hurts! Oh and thank you for Dixie and Sariah interactions missed from the previous 2 books!

Another Great Book

Jenn Starks last book in the Justice Wilde series was as lively, action packed, mystery filled, and witty as the previous novels. The characters continue to grow in complexity, the plot twists keeps you guessing. It’s an enjoyable read. I can’t recommend this series enough. But just one of the books and I promise you’ll be hooked.

Man, the Wilde Justice books are about a million times better than the previous series. Stark's writing has evolved so much, and I am so glad I stuck with it.

(Those cliffhanger endings, though, are a lot easier to swallow when the sequel is within easy reach.)
