"To me, failing to learn to use the tools one’s craft shows laziness and disrespect for the reader. There are, however, no issues of that sort where Baeli’s writing is concerned. It’s rare to these days to find a writer whose style is technically so nearly perfect, but who’s also a damned good storyteller. I doubt if she is even capable of writing poorly." ~W. Spice

Even after 36 novels, I always try to write the sort of book I would want to read. My favorite thing to do is take a common trope and turn it on its ear. Where you expect a zig, I give you a zag. In my pages, you will find strong female characters, ethical dilemmas, and realistic storylines often filled with adventure and intense pacing, tempered by witty dialog, and happy endings. All are hallmarks of my work.

As a Bestselling Genre-Hopping Indie Author, I’ve enjoyed a sales position in the top 5% of lesbian writers, but I write crossover and mainstream fiction and have authored 26 nonfiction books, as well. All 36 of my FemFic novels have been bestsellers in the genres of domestic suspense, domestic thriller, women's adventure, romantic suspense, apocalyptic, speculative, lesfic, lesbian romance, and science fiction. I’m also a mixed-media artist (mostly clay and abstract painting) and former performing singer-songwriter with over 200 songs.

My wife, Melissa Walker-Baeli, is a budding author in her own right, and we have several co-writing projects coming soon. We live with two dogs, (Noodle and Whatnot) and two cats, (Poppet and Chicklet) on ten acres in the gorgeous Northwoods of Michigan.

you get something different out of each book you read.
This one was an interesting story, and the character development was phenomenal, but the thing that i found myself saying at the end of the book was: "wow, she's a really talented author."
This book shows a really well rounded project. storyline, characters, the dry cynical humor that i love, depth, emotional manipulation, literary prose here and there... but mainly, none of it seemed forced. You could tell that this author could just start typing, go into a zone and spit out a book or a speech or a poem or a recipe that would pull you in and have your full attention. Very fluid and a total pleasure. The editing (if she even needed it) was flawless as well.

The story itself was fun and you get your fill of action, hot romance, and wit, all rolled up nicely. A splendid balance of a book that will have you laughing one minute, and the next deep in thought about the psyche of our characters and an empathy of their emotional baggage.

I've already downloaded several other bits of the author's work (many aren't even available here on amazon. check her site) and she is one deep chick with an amazing ability to put the deepest truths of life into words. so many of the other 'popular' lesfic authors have NOTHING on her.

Good grief this oozed sex. The mystery really took a back seat to lots and lots of sex.

I was going to open with something like 'I reminded myself of how that J.M. Redmann series started, in that first book, Micky was rather quick to become involved in sexual escapades. That calmed down as the series progressed.' But then, even that first book, had a deeper tie to the mystery plot. It's not like Armchair Detective doesn't have a mystery plot line. It does have one. It's that there appear to be two different books here. At least in the sense that at times I begin to forget the mystery while JoBeth was rolling around with Phoebe. I'm wording this weirdly and wrongly, but bah.

It's hard to describe the book without going into spoiler territory. Heck, I cannot even mention whether or not the romance is a side story or a connected story without going spoilery. Nor give any background to JoBeth. And I don't really have any background for Phoebe to reveal or not reveal.

Hmms. Let me see what I can write. Jobeth supports herself by having a paper route and living in a trailer. Though supports is suggesting something that doesn't actually exist, since she's way behind on things like the rent. In her spare time she reads private investigator books. The nonfiction kind, like how to do stuff.

Jobeth gets a case to help a guy who is being blackmailed. So she does that. Investigating and stuff. In her other job she runs into Phoebe, a rich housewife who is interested in some action with the paperboy. When it turns out that the paperboy is a girl, she doesn't seem to annoyed by the change in gender. So, Jobeth and Phoebe start something going.

In terms of a romance - there were certain things that pissed me off about it. Though there is a certain reason behind the actions that annoyed me, so I was slightly less annoyed than I would normally be. I can't really say why I'm annoyed, as that would be spoilery.

In terms of mystery - it was an interesting enough idea. There was description of investigation being done. Probably on par for a gifted amateur. The mystery, as I've mentioned, really takes a back seat to the romance, though.

I could have lived without that 'wrap up' epilogue which kind of told a whole bunch of stuff. Just to tack it on, I guess.

Still, I'd probably give this book 3 and a half stars, if I could give half stars here.

The most appealing thing about this novel is its narrative voice. Written in first person, this novel is wry and humorous. It's the first thing that draws you into the story and it's at once self-depreciating and self-assured, which is an interesting combination. For a while I thought this self-assurance bordered on cocky, but by a few chapters into the book I was captivated. It's a strong voice and it never falters once in the whole novel.

By describing the novel's voice I'm also describing the main character. She's pretty much everything a reader needs a character to be – interesting enough to catch our attention, assertive enough to keep it and displaying a depth that promises more to the story if we care to read on. With a character like this, it's impossible not to read on. She has her weaknesses of course, but all well-rounded characters do. She's hiding something and this gives her an air of vulnerability that only adds an extra dimension to her otherwise strong, capable and determined character.

The secondary character is just as appealing. Both different in temperament, these two make a terrific team, and their burgeoning relationship in the book is everything you want it to be from the very moment they meet.

Well paced with nail-biting action scenes this novel has a storyline that will have you glued to the page. It manages to stay on this side of believable because at all times the author is demonstrably in control of her material. Immersed in the book, it all seems real and credible and it's a credit to Jae Baeli's writing skill. It's a detective story, action story and romance all in one wild, fulfilling ride. Lots of drama, danger and two sexy women. What more could you want?

Bring together an exciting storyline, a world that is recognizable and real, a bunch of characters to love, hate, laugh at and with as the case may be, and you have all the ingredients of a book well worth reading. I know there's a second book featuring these characters and I'm looking forward to reading it. If it's anything like this one, it's not to be missed.

I was wary of the way Jobeth was described at first— a sort of macho lesbian who touts NRA rhetoric, likes ridiculously conspicuous (for a detective) cars and helps a pedophile who's being blackmailed by a (quoting our dear hero) "bimbo madame". This isn't strictly a romance, considering our love interest has little characterization and is mostly there to be fallen in love with, and it isn't strictly a mystery novel, considering how little mystery there is and how that part of the plot only seems to advance through the WORST UNBELIEVABLE DEUS EX MACHINA EVER (And I do mean EVER).

What separates this book from others though, is how impossibly, burst-in-laughter bad, are the sex scenes. Never has anyone managed to make lesbian sex look like some lovecraftian eldritch horror sex so well. Hold on to something because I'm going to QUOTE

Context : She's being fingered on the backseat of her car and suddenly, great orgasm.
"The sensation seemed eternal, and I could only allow it to continue, witless and debilitated. I fell from the black hole into the ocean— became the ocean; while a legion of tentacles filled my bones, writhing, pulsing, as I made guttural noises that were alien coming from my own throat"

You know your orgasm is great when it ruptures the very fabric of reality and that Cthulhu comes to give you a cuni.

This one has a bit of a noir feel - Jobeth is a drifter of sorts, working nights delivering papers while she studies for her PI license. The two main plotlines are introduced early on, where Jobeth is hired by a man who is being blackmailed and she meets a wealthy woman who she becomes entangled with. A simple job of "watching his back" leads to her getting deeper into the investigation and her fling with Phoebe also develops into more than she expected. There are some holes and leaps in the plot but I'll give credit for the author for allowing the protaganist to get the snot kicked out of her on a few occasions and to make mistakes which gives her a more realistic feel.

2.5 stars - losing points because, despite this being a revised edition, there are still some typos and at one point, early on, the narrative flips from 1st person to 3rd person.

Holly cow not what I was expecting

I have had this book on my kindle for so long. I finally decided to read it I started yesterday and couldn't put it down. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I laughed and I held my breath and screamed at Jobeth to move her rear. I really loved how she was a character true to life struggling with bills and stuff. I loved how the storyline developed and how more characters came along. I definitely recommend this book. Off to read the next book.💓

I was a literature major, and I've read my share of every genre, and many different styles. Not every author in print is in command of the craft. Kelli Jae Baeli, I assure you, IS. One thing i noticed right away with this book is that Baeli is a master of dialogue. I've read so many books where the dialogue was so forced or even contrived, but the interaction between her characters flows so effortlessly, and it's so authentic, so entertaining, and often laugh-out-loud funny. But she does something else with the dialogue which i have found to be rare in other books: it cleverly develops her characters, while also advancing the plot, which is also inventive, engaging and seamless. In Armchair Detective, just when I thought she couldn't surprise or delight me, she came up with something else that was clever and interesting, and so rooted in the characters. I was thoroughly impressed with her ability to make me care deeply about the people in these pages. Baeli has an understanding of human nature that is also hard to find in much of today's fiction--no matter what genre. And that's necessary, if you're going to write a really superior novel. I have always hated feeling like i wasted my time when i got to the end of a book, but this one had everything i look for: humor, big challenges for the characters, depth, clever plotting, exciting and suspenseful events, and ultimately, the triumph of the human spirit. Baeli never lets me down, and she is officially my favorite author. I will read everything she writes with great anticipation. Do yourself a favor, and read her work.

This was a fun read. It has a Rainey Days vibe to it with Kelli Jae Baeli's signature sense of humor. The chemistry between Phoebe and Joebeth is done well. Joebeth has a dry, sarcastic wit and Phoebe's personality is fun and playful. The book has a bit of everything romance, comedy, drama, and mystery. The plot, while doesn't do anything new, is intriguing and hard to put down. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

"BRAVO! Kelli Jae Baeli, Armchair Detective had me captivated from beginning to end. I really hope you plan on doing a sequel to this book as I'd love to read more about Jobeth O'Brien and Phoebe McMasters.
The graphic descriptions of these characters made me sit on the edge of my seat, hardly containing myself, wanting to know what is going to happen next.

I found myself laughing, crying and holding my breath with Jobeth and Phoebe. I felt like I was there with these ladies experiencing all that they saw and did. As the plot got more intriguing, I found I couldnt just put this book down, I HAD to read more.

This is definately one of my favourite books.

"Waiting on the sequel...
I loved this book! So much so, I've asked, more like plead with, the author to consider a sequel. I read this book after reading another of Ms. Baeli's books, A Random Act of Blindness. I think her characterization is genius, and whether you are gay or straight, you can identify with her characters. The sex is always very tastefully done so that even the most homophobic soul on the planet should be able to maintain their focus on the plot, which is riveting. And, besides, this is not pornographic; rather, it's about learning to trust and to experience true love which is something that the vast majority of us, gay and straight, hope to find in our lifetimes. I am currently reading a third novel written by Ms. Baeli entitled Achilles Forjan and am finding it every bit the delight that the first two novels were. Again, Ms. Baeli, if you happen to read this, please consider a sequel! I'm dying to know what JoBeth might get herself mixed up into next!"

My reply to Penguin Books when they asked what is my favorite book: "My favorite book is currently Armchair Detective by Kelli Jae Baeli. Others of hers are also very good. She's a characterization master!"
Author's Note: I am, indeed working on a sequel, to be entitled, Also Known As DNA. Watch website for announcements of release date.

"Could Not Put It Down!!
I listen to most of my books because I'm in the car so much. I looked for this author on audible and was sad not to see her there. I ordered the ebook anyway and I was so glad that I did! I devoured this book in a single night which is very rare for me. I am not a lesbian (although I do admit to a wild curiosity.) After reading this, lets just say, I walked away completely satisfied! :)"

"Lesbian Bedtime Story...
This is a delightfully enjoyable piece of lesbian fiction. All of the characters are believable and are far from being stereotypes. The two leading female characters are very different, yet inextricably drawn to each other. Jae Baeli gives these characters a psychological profile that is both revealing and vulnerable. The sex scenes are erotic and vibrant. The leading woman is a strong but vulnerable woman who makes lots of mistakes as an amateur private investigator. Classic cars, botched detective work, hot lesbian love scenes, black mail, x-rated photos, and electronic cigarettes are the main themes of this piece of fiction. Perfect for the coffee table or the night stand. A good bedtime story that won't let you sleep until you're finished reading."

"Loved it...
"Well its been a long time since I read a book I just didn't want to put down. Armchair Detective was great. I think my heart just about beat out of my chest during the whole scene...So could you tell me where I can find someone like Phoebe? Or JoBeth? Talk about passion, Those two blew me away with all the affection that they had for one another. I wanted you to know the book kept my interest up the whole time. "

Satisfying!
"An intriguing and enjoyable read, Armchair Detective is the perfect rendezvous for the lover of escapist erotic fiction, as the reader becomes a voyeur to lusty liasons. The mystery fan will be equally satisfied as the story sticks to a well-paced, suspenseful plot that runs parallel to the budding romance. The beauty of Armchair Detective is that Baeli manages to balance the romance and suspense storylines, without sacrificing the credibility of either."

"Jobeth O'Brien is driven by a dream to become a Private Investigator, but her past makes her guarded in matters of the heart. Armchair Detective by Anonymous reviewer
"I found out about Armchair Detective through a search engine, and went to Ms. Baeli's home page. From there, i checked out her book, and decided to order it from Barnes and Noble. Good erotic writing is so hard to find, but that's what i did find in this book. Somewhat surprisingly, the mystery plot was also interesting, and kept me turning pages to find out what would happen. IN addition, i was able to garner a good laugh from the dialogue. It's so refreshing to find a new writer that writes the things i try so hard to find. I can't wait for Baeli's next book..."

"...contains some of the best erotica ever written...and that’s along with an interesting plot, humor, depth and poignancy, too."
~Remarkable Women Online

"A Tasty Morsel for the Mystery Buff...
Armchair Detective is a wonderful mystery with lots of plot twists that keep you interested and make you late for work. I am a fan of lesbian erotica, but i don't care for "nasty stuff." This was a great read because the erotica storyline was tastefully done. Basically, this book was believable. It was not filled with stereotypical lesbo charaters. They were healthy people that had a life in and out of bed."

"I need a cigarette!
Oh. My. God. How much did i love reading the sex parts in this book? okay, i am interested in other things besides sex. But this is really good in that area. The story was also excellent, and i enjoyed how fast it was to read. Really a good book-- i recommend it!"
~Pattie Reese, Yukon, OK

"I wish i could forget...
Being from Oklahoma, it sure was nice to see so much detail in a book about an area i live in. Being a lesbian, i fully appreciated how realistic it was that a stone butch woman can meet someone who opens her up and teaches her to believe in love, and to trust again. This is a book i wish i could forget--so that i can read it again!"
~Sally Kerr,

"Coffeetable goodie!
My best friend happens to be a female (i know--unusual) and while waiting around for her to get ready to go out one night, i picked up this book from her coffeetable. I became so involved after a few pages, i asked to borrow it. I'm glad i did. Now ive never read 'lesbian fiction' and i have no idea if it's all like this or not--but this book was really good. I have to admit i got a little hot reading the 'romantic' parts, but more than that, it really was overall a great read. I remained interested in the plot and in the two women. I look forward to Ms. Baeli's next offering. So my advice to anyone reading this review is that if you enjoy a good book--whether you're straight or gay, this is a good choice (as long as you're open minded)."

Finished Armchair Detective this a.m. I must admit I like reading about openly lesbian characters, especially when the plot and writing are so good...Armchair Detective is excellent mind candy. My only comment at this point is I wish it were longer."

I feel like I was reading a different book than some of the other reviewers. Maybe I was and I just don't know it. Some parts were somewhat decent but other parts felt unnecessary and dragged on for longer than needed.

Jobeth is a private investigator, of sorts. She doesn’t have the official license, but she practices on the side. She also works a paper route in order to afford rent. Phoebe was one of the house’s she hits on her route and the two formed an attachment to each other. When things start getting rougher with her investigation and home life, Jobeth decides that Phoebe is the best person to turn to.

Jobeth is an interesting character. I wish there had been more development of her and more impact from her past, but she seems intriguing. She’s determined to be an investigator but something in her past is holding her from making that final step. I didn’t really care for her though. That doesn’t mean she’s bad, I just didn’t make an attachment to any of the characters for the most part. I do want to learn more about Ginger Grant, but that’s just because she was only introduced at the end and I’m intrigued.

I like the action and investigative parts of this story. It was interesting. I wanted to learn more about the salon’s owner and her clients. This book had nice action scenes that worked to keep me engaged and interested in the story while, at the same time, not making me overly concerned with whether Jobeth was going to survive.

The other parts just didn’t give me that though. I didn’t much care for the romance between the two characters because Phoebe didn’t feel three-dimensional to me and the romance didn’t feel earned. It just felt like something slapped on top because the two characters didn’t seem to spend a lot of time bonding together or anything similar. I also couldn’t really get into the landlady plot or the Major’s purpose. It just dragged on to me and I had to push myself to get through the book.
This was a decent book. The investigation and action is fun, but the rest just didn’t drag me in.

First things first. All books include in the front matter those necessary facts and details, yada, yada, yada. But do you ever read them? If not, you really are missing out on some of Baeli’s wittiest comments. Now, you have to run and look don’t you. Well, you should, otherwise you’ll miss out on some really funny stuff.
This is the first of her AKA Investigations Series and just like any of the other books by Baeli that I have read, her characters are unique and are well developed. The pace of the story keeps you moving and her witty dialogue between the main characters will often have you laughing aloud in a quiet room.
I never give spoilers and I won’t divulge anything other than to say, a couple of twists surprised me along the way. And just sayin’ here, if I ever needed a detective, I’d seek out Baeli—I mean Jobeth.

SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: favorite trope, full-time writer, meet-cute, coming-out story, bet or dare, unusual job, possibly other categories

The novel felt equal parts romance, thriller, and mystery. The author's note stated that some of the story had been based on actual events in her life, and she must have had an interesting past! The primary MC was a "paper boy" that was also trying to become a PI. Secrets from her life and her being a lothario led her to her initial situation. The other MC, a married newspaper customer, ended up being her romantic partner. The characters were very likeable, as well the plot, and there were some interesting surprises along the way.

I really enjoyed book one, and it was good enough that I have already read the first three in the series before coming back to write the reviews. LOL! Can't wait to read more stories with the characters.

My New TBR List

Now that I have discovered the writing of Kelli Jae Baeli, I want it all! I mean, I want to read everything she writes! Her stories are so well plotted, characters so believable, and her humor makes the story comfortable and unputdownable! Baeli’s writing style is smooth, with natural sounding dialogue. This is just my second Baeli book, but I am already a confirmed forever fan and eager reader!

I enjoyed the detective story, but was very surprised by how much sex the author put in the story. I realize the characters need to grow and have a life, but it felt like it was just done to fill space

Amateur unlicensed Private Detective, Jobeth O’Brien, is living on the breadline, she’s not even keeping her head above water. Her night time job delivering newspapers doesn’t even begin to pay the bills. She’s hiding a secret which prevents her from getting her private investigators license. The one thing she has to her name that she loves, is her 1962 Falcon.

Jobeth meets rich socialite, Phoebe McMasters while she’s delivering her newspapers. Jobeth is smitten. Unfortunately, Phoebe is married and straight, isn’t she? Apparently not! The back seat of the Falcon sees more action than it’s probably ever seen before.

During the course of Jobeth’s investigations into the prostitution and blackmail case she’s on, she finds herself being battered, shot at, bitten by a Pit Bull and many other injuries she hadn’t bargained for. She also makes a startling discovery which alters the course of her friendship with Phoebe.

Jobeth is fast falling in love with Phoebe. Will her feelings be reciprocated? Or will Phoebe reject her like everyone else has throughout her life?

Meanwhile, Jobeth has a case to solve. Will she have the experience to solve it? Will she even be able to keep herself from harm? Someone out there wants her dead and will stop at nothing to kill her.

I honestly don’t know what took me so long to discover Kelli Jae Baeli’s books. But now that I have, I’m totally hooked.

I love the two main characters in this book, Jobeth and Phoebe. They are both adorable, multidimensional characters and they interact wonderfully with the rest of the characters.

The story starts out a little bit hit and miss in that the plot is a bit haphazard, a touch unbelievable. But that’s only for a tiny part, it soon picks up until there are so many twists and turns and ups and downs, I didn’t know if I was on a rollercoaster ride or a merry-go-round.

The overall story is a well written and fast paced page turner from start to finish. A real edge of the seat read that I couldn’t put down. The romance is hot and steamy, but does not over shadow the private investigation story the book is about. In my opinion, the balance is perfect.

I already have book two in this series as these books have been out a while. Don’t let that stop you from giving this a try though. I’m going to be buying any lesfic book Kelli Jae Baeli writes from now on.

This is one helluva of a romp, including a great love story and cool detective tale. Two gals initially from completely opposite ends of the economic spectrum grow and merge to be a fantastic team and astoundingly fine lovers. Accentuating and complementing this story is the author's colossally humorous slant on almost everything at some point in time. I laughed out loud a lot, while being enthralled. Inarguably a winner and gloriously entertaining!

Jobeth O'Brien is one super delightful “gay lesbian”. Phoebe eventually gives her the moniker of J-Bo. In actuality, her name is Grayson O'Reilly. However, early on her real name needs to stay under wraps. There is a curious side to J-Bo's lesbianism which is also not completely revealed until later in the story and it astounded me. Nevertheless, throughout the book she is a very adept lover, an amazing friend, and a solid survivor! Levels and entanglements unfold creating an intriguing pastiche that is a little scary at times but the humorous undercurrents keep everything afloat and on track. J-Bo stole my heart time and again. Thumbs up for Jobeth's gutsiness with great soul!

Phoebe McMasters starts out as a “straight lesbian” as opposed to being a “gay lesbian”. I found this distinction within the book to be quite illuminating. Curiously and moreover, she has a real clunker for a husband. In spite of that, Phoebe is an extraordinary treasure. She eventually makes a solid pass at Jobeth who happens to be the person delivering her paper every day. In addition Phoebe is certifiably wealthy and I think it gave her the chutzpah to engage Jobeth. These two make a really, really fine team starting out with their adorable sexual escapades. The list of accolades I associate with Phoebe is long and impressive. I positively adore Phoebe. Magnificent!

This is a funny, sexy, endearing, heartwarming-to-palpitating, unequivocal delight. I certainly recommend it not be missed. Fantastic!

I read the first of Baeli's AKA Investigations series almost two years ago, which was before I did much at all in the way of reviewing. I'm currently a bit over halfway through Book 3, which naturally brought to mind Book 1, and I realized I needed to correct that omission. Why? Cos of my memories of how much I enjoyed it, and how impressed I was with Kelli's(?), Jae's(?), Ms. Baeli's(?) writing style. I remember at the time thinking it was sort of Plum meets Chandler; it's funnier than Plum, though, and if not quite as noir as Chandler, it's getting there. Which is not to say it's derivative in any way, just to give you an idea what it's like. And, it's a combination that works really, really well.

As for the details, well, some are kinda hazy -- remember that "almost two years ago" part -- but a few stand out: The Ford Falcon is the perfect car for Jobeth. I absolutely love what she does for a living before becoming a PI. Can't think of another character that comes close to its totally uncool coolness. Also, I seem to remember a scene where she's chased by a dog, which was absurdly well-written -- one of those "don't change a damn word" things. And the sex scenes are, well, ah, just, ya know, "Wow!"

So, while I don't remember a lot about Armchair Detective, hence the brevity of this compared to most of my reviews -- Hey, I heard those sighs of relief out there. Knock it off! -- I do recall with certainty that it was extremely well-written and nicely paced, with a plot was that was interesting, and with engaging characters, especially Jobeth. (Sometimes I hate "Engaging." I mean, you hear it allthedamntime, right, but, sometimes, nothing else will do.

Hell, just read it, folks. I bet you'll like it just as much as I did.

Told in the first person with an engaging style and lots of action, this series has the potential to have a wide following if more of Baeli’s plot lines were believable. As it is, there are way too many major coincidences, some so outrageous that it turns off the reader. There are a number of sex scenes, which are pretty vivid and well done. I like it when the title of a book does work—like Penny Mickelbury’s Keeping Secrets, which has several layers of meaning. However, the title Armchair Detective is actually counterproductive as Jobeth is not an armchair detective e at all--she is more hard-boiled. There are a few bad formatting decisions, but it is the plot lines that rankle the most. I was not inspired to continue on to the second in the series, but might be if I was sure that Baeli had someone looking at it with an eye to the total package.

I have observed--and the author has even stated in her introduction--that the book has gone through many revisions. Maybe she has made it what it could be by now. My rating of the version I read would put it at about 2 stars.

This genre novel is a lot of fun. It doesn’t try to be anything except what it is, an erotic lesbian detective story, and it does that really well. The hero is a smart, sassy woman who loves to please women. She gets a lot of sex, and we readers get fairly graphic descriptions. She’s not shallow, though. She’s a well-defended butch who isn’t too comfortable with being on the receiving end till she meets the right woman.

That’s the romantic/erotic side of the story. The detective part is suspenseful and full of action. This is not a “who-dun-it”; there’s no question about the identity of the villain. The main question is whether the hero will get herself killed in the process of getting the evidence. She almost does, about four times, in rather ingenious ways. And all along the way, there’s that smart, funny detective patter to amuse us.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, gay-positive, sex-positive read, this is a good choice.

I didn't enjoy the book. The dialogue seemed juvenile and the story line was like a teenage fantasy.
