Again gonna write the review in dutch but since this is an English book: Y'all don't sleep on this series - its so good!
Echt een fantastisch vervolg op Ottilie en de drochtenjagers. Het opende de wereld een beetje op, en makten de serie nog spannender. Vond wel dat het boek een beetje last had van "middelste-boek syndroom" maar denk nog steeds dat dit een van mijn favoriete series word.

Vond het echt een erg vermakelijk boek. Het was heel avontuurlijk, er is erg veel gebeurd. Ik vond het echt goed dat Ottillie zo opkomt voor de andere. En ook de aspecten van vriendschap, loyaliteit en vertrouwen vond ik erg goed.

It’s a middle-grade book. It’s meant for children. But that’s the exact magic about it. Middle-grade fantasy books have this charm that cannot be replicated in any other genre.
I cannot describe the warmth that blooms in my heart whenever I read or even think about this trilogy. Everything about it is perfect, for reasons I can’t explain. There’s something about its, well, vibes.
You know what? I’d like to enter this world. I’d like to talk to all the characters and join their friend group. I want to live in the dorms and stare out at the Narroway woods. I’d like to drink warm tea, sitting by the fireplace. I’m aware of the millions of other books out there that have similar settings, but that’s the exact thing. I have no idea what draws me so much to this book. All I know is that I am in love, and I wish more people knew about it.

Loved it! A great sequel to the first book in the trilogy. Excellent pacing, lots of tension, surprises, great description of character interactions, cool world building. And of course - excellent feminist undertones (or overtones, depending on how you see it!) I still have some questions around the whole Narroway set-up - I suspect they'll either be answered in the next or final book, and if not, I'll shrug them off. Happy to suspend my disbelief for such a fun series.

Ottilie Colter is working her way up the leaderboard as the first female member of the Narroway Hunt. Venturing beyond the confines of Fort Fiory with her guardian, Leo, the two collect points as they dispatch dredretches that threaten the safety of the people under their protection. However, when wylers appear within the walls of the fort and strange occurrences put everyone on edge, the dangers they face are no longer familiar. Each moment tests Ottilie and her friends to their limits, leaving an uncertain future ahead of them.
The second in the Narroway Trilogy, this book continues Ottilie’s journey of self-discovery as those around her become more comfortable with the idea of training female soldiers. Though it is an extension of the first installment, enough world building is included to make the setting understood even to those who have not read the first story. Tying together earlier moments with new adventures, this is a compelling link between the exposition developed in the first story and the riveting conclusion implied by this book’s ending.
Cinematically written, the descriptions in this story are vivid and memorable. As a fantasy adventure, most of Ottilie’s world, particularly the nefarious dredretches, are unfamiliar to human readers. However, the relationships the characters share and their universal human traits create tangible links between the two worlds. This is especially the case as Ottilie and her friends are emerging into their tumultuous teenage years, and moments of romantic discovery are hinted at amidst the chaos within the fort.
Like many sequels, this book takes a step away from initial world-building and focuses more on the plot points that will guide the book into a thrilling final installment. The incorporation of memories from book one with the foundation of what is to come in book three is well executed in this story, inspiring readers to pick up the subsequent book to learn what happens next. With dredretches mysteriously ending up in the Narroway's Hunt base, killing and injuring many-Ottilie suspect that someone is letting them in. Someone is a traitor. The girls at Fort Fiory are in danger, the leaders won't allow them to fight and join the hunt. Witches were killed long ago, but talk of witchcraft is rising-someone is controlling the dredretches someone is trying to take the Narroway Hunt down.
This was a great book to read to start off 2022! This trilogy is seriously underrated and deserves much more love and attention. This book was easy to speed through with Rhiannon's masterful balance of the perfect elements, the pacing perfect. Everyone is great, Leo is still yet to grow on me, but still is slowly maturing and seeing the truth. In book 1 the author did a great job at setting the base for the world building, and giving us enough detail. In book 2 the world expands and we get to see the lore, and history. I loved how it again dealt with the theme of the importance and potential of female, and the misogynistic society. I really loved how we got to see more on witches, the witches were all killed in the past in this world, and were mostly female which is a lot like a event in history where people were falsely accusing people for having witchcraft and were executed. Everything weaves perfectly. I love Ottilie character still how real, and emotional she is. It was interesting to see how people treated her differently as soon as they figured out she was a girl. Also how much she improves with weapons, and riding! Her relationship with everyone, Leo, Ned, Gully, Skip, and everyone was just great. I loved the ending it was really cool, the battle. And I love that the author knows a good book must have loss. Truly can't wait for book 3!

The second in the Narrowway Trilogy, this series continues to follow Ottilie, the first female huntsman in the Narroway Hunt, as she struggles to break barriers while fighting off dangerous monsters.
This is definitely a darker series, it almost reminds me of Hunger Games in that sense that death is a prevalent character as well as social injustice. I really enjoy its darker themes, it still remains optimistic and not so grimdark, befitting of a middle-grade book.
Ottilie is a fantastic protagonist, constantly struggling with her self-worth and creating familial bonds with the other members of the hunt in the process. Thie second book here focuses more on the mystery aspect, why is the Narroway Hunt a secret across the country? Where is the king? Why are girls not allowed to be trained to protect themselves from the monsters outside? Ottilie, along with friends, discovers the answers to these secrets....

I cannot put into words how much I love this book. It brings such a sense of nostalgia every time I read it (which is an almost embarrassing number) and is now so worn and thick I think I must have left more of myself in it than is left in me. The mystery and intrigue is real, but so are the 3D characters that you get to know and love as they are fleshed out so excellently. I absolutely recommend this for anyone who needs to take their mind off life, it has certainly helped me to do this in many a difficult time, but is also amazing for absolutely anyone at all. It is the perfect mix of heartwarming and gritty darkness that I love and I could not speak more highly of it.
Also, my heart truly belongs to Ned and if anyone has anything bad to say about him they can go through me, or more realistically, they can try.

I really enjoyed this book!!! I found very different from many other fantasy books that i have read and there were so many interesting plot twists that sometimes I couldn’t help but smile and admire what a precious and amazing book this is! The Narroway trilogy was recommended to me a friend of mine and I’m so glad that I found out about this series! I found this book even better than the first one (if that was even possible). I really think this book should be more popular, it really deserves it.

This book was really enjoyable. The book was a little bit predictable just like the first one, but for the rest, it was way better than the first book. The characters developed, the plot was more in dept and the world expanded. The author does not beat around the bush. Quite a few characters die or get heavily injured and I feel the tension with them. I hope the last book is even better than this one. 7.71 on CAWPILE TW// Betrayal, misogyny, death

A strong addition to the saga. A great balance of light YA fantasy, with darker monsters and elements of the grotesque. As someone who doesn’t like dark fantasy, it was just right. It would be a good gateway for someone wondering how much they can handle. I made the mistake of finishing this book on a flight, and hadn’t brought book three with me. I was haunted for the whole week’s vacation, needing to know how it ended.

I am really enjoying this series, and I'm surprised it hasn't had the same level of attention as Wundersmith. While the characters are young, the story (and the wonderful writing) is not limited to an audience as young as the cover art might suggest. If you like strong girls, mysterious creatures, monsters, magic and adventures - read it.

Gebeurd superveel, maar is een stuk minder spannend dan deel 1. Komt waarschijnlijk omdat de nieuwigheid eraf is.
En omdat het weer een deel twee is die deel drie aan 1 moet koppelen met een eindgevecht.
Als jeugdboek zal alles wel weer goed komen, maar het kan nog steeds twee kanten opgaan. Eigenlijk zijn de twee kanten beide slechteriken.

3 1/2 stars. Enjoyable fantasy, with plenty of imagination, but felt more rushed and less well crafted that the first. A fair amount of exposition. I think there may be a few too many dreadrichs to keep track of.

I think I liked this book better than the first book, which is saying a lot since the first one was really good! This book had more adventure and action - it was a real page-turner. Good job Rhiannon Williams! These books should get a lot more publicity

September 2, 2022Ottilie's story continues, she's almost finished her fledgling year and on her own for patrols in the Narroway. More mysterious happenings with the dredetches are happening every where and there might be a witch involved.... the suspense, mystery and action continues....

Honestly, these books are better than some modern (young-)adult fantasy novels. Maybe it's due to the increased market pressure and a need to stand out from the other thousand-and-one middle-school books but this series has frankly hooked me.

Het is een heel leuk boek op het einde van het verhaal klopt alles wat je had gelezen het is een boek met veel fantasie en magie het is leuk om door te lezen want dan zit je veel meer in het boek.
