Moriarty's Men #2

The Temptation of Four

Rate this book
As the world's foremost criminal mastermind, I take what I want when I want it. But my life is hardly a breeze. Especially now that I've got the demonic fiend I just betrayed hot on my heels.

To be fair, I do still owe that fiend my soul. A small technicality I'm about to fix. I just have to track down the most secretive sect of the cult that tormented my childhood and steal the source of their power.

When Sherlock, John, and Garrett turn up to mess with my plans, I should probably be more annoyed. If only they didn't present such a delicious challenge both in business and in bed. I used them before; I can use them again.

Trouble is, these brilliant, passionate men are wiser to my tricks now. And as our game of cat and mouse intensifies, so do the more tender feelings I've been trying to ignore.

With the battle lines drawn, which of us will give in to temptation first? Will we all survive the fallout?

Look, I have quite an unusual type. I don't need broad blokes with tattoos all over their bodies. I don't need alpha males growling and howling and dominating their girl. I just need intelligent, handsome and charming men. That's my turn on. And I like it even more if the female main character knows how to use her brain too and keeps up with those guys or even is a few steps ahead of them.

So this series is like a breath of fresh are. It almost feels like it's written for me. All those men cater my needs and interestes. I love this version of Sherlock. I love this version of Watson maybe even more and I also really love Garrett, especially because he might have the most interesting inner turmoil. And what a joy is it to see the game they are playing with Moriarty and Bash. It's interesting, it keeps me on the tips of my toes and for once I don't want to hit characters because they oversee the obvious things.

This story is very much character driven and I understand that's not for everyone. There's not much action and even though the characters are playing a dangerous game, dangerous enough to have me excited over it, I can totally see why some people would grow bored. However, I crave every word of this. I love the scheming and the plotting and the planning. I love how they outplay each other, how they can't easily fool the other and how they need each other in the end too.

In this book we also get to see much more of the characters, of who they are when they are not plotting and scheming. Moriarty's mask slowly cracks and her emotions are seeping through and it's so beautiful to see! I also really loved how we learned much more about the guys, about their personalities, longings, fears and pain. And I really loved Bash! He almost made me cry when he so selflessly did what was best for Jemma!

I can't wait for next week! I so wanna read the next book!

This was so much more captivating than the first book of this series!!! We gain so much more insight into these brilliantly crafted characters and the plot thickens even more deliciously! This was well written and executed perfectly. Ms. Chase keeps the drama, intrigue and steam going as she keeps you perched precariously upon the tips of your toes! Jemma is sultry, calculating and determined, but she's finding hidden basic human traits that show her another side to what could be. Her four would be protectors and partners in crime are each vastly different in their approach towards her, but remain cautious while hoping for her best. Cannot wait for book three, because the adventure is only beginning!!

I loved everything about this book. I loved that guys were angry and didn't just let things slide. This is definitely one of the first RH books where all guys are clearly different and have their own distinct personalities but I love them all equally.

Incredibly Unique Story!!

I love how the author has created a retelling, setting in modern times, of Sherlock Holmes. It is fantastically unique and unlike any other paranormal I have read before. The concept of the shrouded folk, the cults who worship them, and the plight Jemma has found herself in is creative and helps the author make this Holmes story her own and not some cheap and cheesy knock off.

The characters are all well defined and detailed and each have their own personality. It never felt as if characters bled into another. The relationships Jemma has with all of them are unique in their own way as well. Bash is still my favorite!!! Jemma was written incredibly well by the author. I love how smart and quick witted she is. She has the street smarts that her men, other than Bash, do not have. Everything she does is meticulous and well thought out which was extremely enjoyable to read.

This book is plenty hot and steamy especially with the tiny little helping of MM so I hope I can read more of that as I continue reading the series. I highly recommend this series to people who enjoy steamy RH, paranormal, plenty of suspense and drama, and fun twists on classic tales and their characters.

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

I never loved a paranormal mystery than I do right now. The Temptation of Four is the perfect sequel to A Study in Seduction and I loved it. The London trio has caught up to Jemma and are out to put a stop to her current con and bring her to justice. Jemma, being the brilliant mastermind she is refuses to let the trio get in her way. Jemma is determined to end her contract with the shrouded ones and not even the brilliant Sherlock Holmes is going to stop her. It's genius against genius the only question is who is going to come out on top, the detective or the criminal?

The Temptation of Four was an exciting and fun read that I really enjoyed. It's really interesting to see Jemma's genius and her cunning at work, how she plans ahead and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Jemma isn't the good guy but she isn't the worst guy either and so it's interesting to see a main character who you can't help but root for be so morally gray.

Another interesting plot point in this story is Sherlock himself. Sherlock hasn't come-up against anyone that was as smart as he is and it's interesting seeing the two interact and out-maneuver each other. Jemma has his genius but doesn't have the human interaction difficulties Sherlock does and it's really good to see Jemma help him in that matter, for him to connect with someone that isn't John.

This is a reverse harem so I have to talk about the rest of the guys. John Watson is just so adorable, he is still an easy-going guy who loves action (a good fight) or to go on an adventure but he is still a good guy with a moral code so it's interesting to see him with Jemma after everything that happened in London. He still care and wants to see better.

Out of all the guys Bash is my favorite, if I had to chose one I would him. Bash is smart, brave, strong, loyal, kind (to Jemma) and he is willing to go through such lengths to do what is best for Jemma. Bash seems like a really good guy you know if you don't take-into-account he is a hitman. Bash is an open person and he connects with those he cares about.

Eva created a plot that was easy to get lost in. The first book in the series there was a caper and a con, in Temptation of Four there was so much more. There was a lot more action this time around with people screaming, danger around every corner and of course a con or two. It was really exciting and I loved seeing the dazzling way Jemma's mind works. To have that kind of genius and being able to read people really well, that is a dangerous combination and Jemma has it. That alone makes this series really good.

The Temptation of Four was very entertaining and I am looking forward to the next book in the series because the game is just getting started and Jemma is just getting warmed up. The relationships are getting spice and the danger is very really and it's close. This series is getting good and I am ready for the next book, The Hounds of Devotion is gonna be good.

Yes. Yes. YES. No second book syndrome here and we get more of the delicious game of intrigue between Moriarty and the trio of Londoners as their path leads them to Croatia.

Moriarty and her right hand man, Bash, are weeks into their endeavors of uncovering the commune of cultists in Croatia and finding the knife that’ll bring her freedom. When the three Londoners, Sherlock, John, and Garrett, roll up into the party and demand answers to her heist in London, Moriarty is half excited to see them and half annoyed. She doesn’t need them here messing with her plan but nonetheless feels intrigued by the prospect of their continued presence. With Moriarty’s life on the line, she’s going to have to push and maneuver more than ever to get her business finished.

Slow burn romance always is a plus. The smart, charming, and handsome men aren’t hard to like and enjoy. Add the intelligent and criminal genius Moriarty is and you got yourself a solid book. Seriously, I was so nervous that Eva Chase would rip the rug from under me and give me another second book that I wasn’t at all interested in. How she’s proved me wrong.

The plot was well written and definitely didn’t drag. Things were well paced and I didn’t feel like thins were dwelling too long on one thing or another. I felt the natural progression was nice. The writing was great too. I enjoyed the more emotional aspects of this book but still greatly appreciated the analytical parts all the same. The multiple POVs really help in building a connection to them that’s more than could be done with Moriarty alone. The characters are becoming more open with each other and themselves.

Despite the fast physical relationships she’s had with the Londoners, it’s hard and unforeseeable to Moriarty at times to open herself up to more than just the physical intimacy and leisurely friendship she’s stoked with them. It’s definitely being fostered and I’m sure the third book in the series is really going to dive deep into their relationship building. I’m excited to see her development and find her learning to trust these men with more than just a heist or mission.

Bash is different for her. She knows she can trust him to get the job done but the undeniable emotional intimacy she’s yearning for from him has been growing harder and harder for her to ignore. With what happened in London, the floodgates had opened and Moriarty and Bash needed to deal with where their relationship stood. They always have each other’s backs but what about their hearts? *big time spoiler alert* When she got jealous over Bash and his one-night stand I felt my heart was so heavy. I was like damn girl don’t push him away and just accept you want him for more than a fuck or business partner ugh *end spoiler*. Happy to see that things turned around for the BEST.

Anyway, I’m very excited for the new journey Moriarty and the guys are going to set off on. Totally looking forward to the next book.

Danger, suspense, magical beings, and four hot men.

Loved the second book in this series, I think it is going to be an exciting series with lots of sexual tension. Moriarty is in Croatia and is somehow not surprised when Sherlock, John, and Garrett show up there. They are all, understandingly, mad at her for using them for her own purposes when last they met. She is annoyed that they found her so easily, but knows she can once again get them to help her without them even being aware of it. She really needs the help as she has yet to find the commune where the magical artifact is being kept, and she must have it if she hopes to escape her death.

The three men are all pretty happy that they found Jemma's hiding place, but not sure what they can do to her now that they have her. She broke no laws that they didn't help her break, and they are only really upset that she was using them to assist in her thievery. It doesn't take long for them to become embroiled in whatever she is up to this time. With Bash to have her back, Jemma does her best to defuse their anger while taking her pleasure and getting them all to work together to get her what she needs. Will she manage to find the artifact in time to save herself? Can she handle all four men and still keep her eye on the prize?

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Moriarty and her men are back in a spectacular follow-up to Chase's first delve into the Sherlockian fandom. Jemma remains as perceptive and persuasive as ever, and she's still ready to run ever-narrowing circles around the men in her life.

The Temptation of Four drives us deeper into the mystery of the shrouded ones and Jemma's quest to become her own master, to no longer live in fear that Bog will come to claim her life in a moment of weakness. Her shrewdness is as delightful as ever, and she continues to be among my favorites of Chase's heroines even if there might be some shades of gray in her moral compass.

The gentlemen are in various states of agitation when our journey begins, still glowering over the way that Jemma masterfully manipulation them in book one. However, their disgruntled attitudes quickly give way to curiosity when they realize there's so much more to uncover about her history and her future plans. Not only that, but they find they can't resist her charms and find themselves increasingly drawn to her.

The action runs smoothly, well-paced, and full of steamy moments that keep the fire well stoked. There's plenty of action between Jemma and her men as well as some delicious progress in the m/m category. Overall, this series continues to be entertaining, engrossing, and a fresh take on a well-loved fandom.

Jemma Moriarty is a criminal mastermind and used to taking what she wants whenever she needs it. However, she does still owe a demonic fiend her soul and she needs to fix that ASAP by tracking down the cult from her childhood and stealing their power source. However, the three guys from London have tracked her down and so she decides to use Sherlock, John, and Garrett again - not only for their detective skills but their bed based skills too (well a girl has needs!). Problem is they are wise to her tricks now so it's going to be a game of cat and mouse with no clear winner.

Loved this second instalment of the series where the characters are developed more and a fourth player also becomes more important in the battle for Jemma's romantic/sexual attention. Definitely a case of the makings of a reverse harem in the works as the series develops. Lots of danger, drama and excitement as the story of how Jemma tries to cut the ties between herself and the demonic fiend. Well written and very enjoyable, I'm loving the way this story is going and can't wait to find out what happens to Jemma Moriarty and her band of willing men.

Loved it!

Another great book in this series. A little more MM action in this one that I'm hoping expands even further in the next one. This book had plenty of action and again I appreciate that it was a complete book with no cliffhanger. I still want to see where this fivesome ends up next and continue with their story which tells you it's a good storyline since Ms. Chase was able to keep the suspense going while still having a full complete novel with an ending and no real cliffhanger. I really appreciate an author who does that. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting RH novel with characters who have questionable morals. I'm loving how the relationships are developing between not only Jemma and the guys but between the guys themselves as well. It will be interesting to see how Bash fits in with the other three when they're all working together for a longer period of time.

Keeps you on you toes

This was a very good addition to this series and i'd say to fully enjoy it read it in order. But otherwise it's still got that Sherlock suspenseful action give unique to this story while weaving in reverse harem romance and the paranormal. I would say this one even had more action to keep you on your toes than the last. Th reverse harem aspect I would say is still growing but that doesn't mean this book doesn't have some hot moments. I can't wait to see what's next: how Moriarty achieved her goal she worked so hard for, how everyone comes together as a group in everyday and how that effects their daily lives. I'm just really hoping nothing super bad happens that would take away any of the characters we have come to love. This book does end on a happy for now type ending with a lot of questions answered but plenty more to figure out. Very good book would recommend

Awww, yes!

I'm writing this review merely to say that 1) I loved the book, and my heart melted for every character, 2) I especially loved Bash, and 3) this was the perfect sequel to the first book. It moved the characters' personal stories forward, tied up things rather nicely, and yet left a bit of action for the third book as well.

My only question is (unless it was answered and I missed it): How did Sherlock find out that Moriarty was in Croatia?

Oh, and I also wanted to leave this lovely quote here.
A tiny warning: it's a bit spoilery.

Moriarty is thinking about her feelings towards Bash, and this is how she sums up what he means to her:
"He was a perfect pocket of someplace else in the middle of the horrors both behind and ahead of me."

I love how this book doesn't skip a beat from the end of book one. I loved all of the guys, but still had a problem with how Jemma lies and manipulates Sherlock, John and Garrett. Not to mention her one-sided relationship with Bash. My heart went out to him most of all. I did like her a lot more when she was being truthful with them all. I love that they will be on another adventure soon. This is a great version of the adventures of Jemma Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes, John Watson and Garret Lestrade. Bash Moreno is my favorite of them all. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

This book, The Temptation of Four, is the second book in Moriarty's Men Series. I didn't really enjoy the first book because it took me a while to get into the world. But since I have a better idea now, the story is easier to digest, and the information given along the ride explains some of the questions I had from the previous book.

Now that the London trio has seen the horrible thing the cult did and also the shrouded beings, I look forward to reading about their brilliant collaboration to tackle the issue and hoping that more supernatural elements in the play as well. No more cat-and-mouse games, please.

This was a great second book for the series!!

I enjoyed this book slightly more than the first - I felt we got to see more of Jemma's softer/kinder side, found out more about her history and her current agenda, and see more of her feelings for the guys in her life.
Was interesting to see how the guys reacted when meeting Jemma again, after the events of book 1, and how Bash and Jemma move on from those events. There's still more that needs to be explored and resolved though.

Can't wait to see what happens next!

Picking up where book 1 left off was awesome and things just keep getting hotter as this book continues. The Sherlock trio hunts Jemma down... Jemma is on the hunt to remove her link to the shrouded. I want to just go on and on about what all goes on but I guess you just need to read it ASAP!!! You won't be disappointed except for the fact you have to now wait for book 3!!!

I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.

**** No Spoilers ****

Wow, talk about an intriguing storyline. The first book had me enthralled, but this book has me captivated. The adventures, the lust, the steamy scenes, and the emotions are awesome. (I can't think of anything that describes that but awesome. Eva has done an incredible job with continuing the storyline.

Still entertaining

The second book in the series and we are led on a merry chase around cities and mountains in Croatia, Jemma gets stuck with her meet band of three from London and they are tenacious I trying to figure out just what she is up too now.
Like the first book, this one is full of mystery and angst and witty dialogue. The steamy scenes are not a focus which is a good chance to keep the story fresh, the tension between Jemma and Moran was palpable.

Want to really love it

But I can't. My biggest reason was wanting more Sherlock using his brain. I love me a good anti-hero, and Jemma is one of the best. But, it made me irrationally upset that Sherlock didn't figure things out first at least once. The way it is, it feels like Jemma is just using the boys the whole time and I can't believe they would ever actually want to stay with her. There are also several typos and errors.

Oh snap!!!

5 stars is not nearly enough for this book. Sooooo much better than the first because now Jemma has no reason to hide who she really is from the London trio. I can’t say enough how much I loved the back and forth between Jemma and Sherlock! I had a permanent smirk on my face every time I was reading. Can’t wait for more!!!

Epic!

This is by far one if my fave series. I have always loved Sherlock and this twist to such a classic series is just fabulous! I love the gender bending of Moriarty and supernatural aspects. It killed me when I got to the end and found the link for book 3 and it was only for preorder.....lol. I expect book 3 to be even better & can't wait!

Temptation Of Four picks right up where the first left off and doesn't disappoint. I'm still not a fan of Lestrade but Sherlock, Watson, and Bash make up for it. Jemma has to rely on her intuition and learn to trust that her guys will inevitably have her back when she needs them most. I'm addicted to this compilation of modern suspense with a dash of paranormal romance.

What a fantastic continuation to the series! Jemma is just as brilliant as she is in the first book. I enjoyed seeing how she dealt with the guys being upset with her but also how she was able to manipulate the situations to ultimately get what she needed.

This one is even better than the first book in the series. The sexual tension is even more explosive in this one, as are the intricacies of the relationships between Moriarty and the four men. Beautifully crafted and constructed, this is a real page turner.

I couldn't get into this book as much as the first. Disappointed in that. It wasn't bad, but I think the first one had more schemes and intrigue. This one just fell flat for me.
