April's Fools

Rate this book
We were Army Rangers, the best of the best.
And then one day, everything that we worked so hard to become was ripped away.
Now, we’re in some podunk town, trying to find a sense of normal amongst the crazy, and learn how to live again.
That gets a hell of a lot harder to do when a virus spreads mercilessly across the country, killing 85% of the people who contract it.
In the midst of the panic, we’re tasked with one last rescue mission.
It’s just our luck that the fool we’re rescuing doesn’t believe that the world as we know it is actually ending.
Looks like the apocalypse is about to get real interesting.

This is a stand-alone Reverse Harem Romance. This book is intended for readers who are 18+ due to strong language and graphic sexual content.

Ivy Asher is addicted to chai, swearing, and laughing a lot (but not in a creepy, laughing alone kind of way). She loves the snow, books, and her family of two humans, and three fur-babies. She has worlds and characters just floating around in her head, and she's lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who support that kind of crazy.

definitely a wtf kind of book.

April's Fools was, uh, interesting? I will admit the smut and the characters were enjoyable.. but the ending was what got me. I didn't know if I was supposed to laugh or not. It was just so freaking ridiculous. Not something I would expect from this book but it was interesting...

First, the handshake plague was adorable. I don't know how these guys thought this thing was real but it was laughable. Once I read that.. I just started laughing. Crying and laughing. It wasn't even that funny but their reactions to it were.

These guys? Oh, well they go by Madix, Brant, and Theo. They all live in this sleepy little town where everyone knows everyone. Well, except these guys aren't too bright to hear bullshit when it's spoken to them. Again, hand freaking shake plague.

The sheriff of this little town gives these guys a mission: to go get his kid. He tells them little information about this mission - just gives them a map and a car. The entire time they thought they were picking up a dude.. boy were they shocked to find out Remington was a Remi.

These four had chemistry, kind of insta if you catch my drift. Lots of sexual tension and then random hook ups that shocked me a bit. These guys go from barely sharing a thing at all to going after the same girl rather quickly.

Overall, the ending man. That damn thing. I have nothing to say.

I am quite honestly stumped as to how anyone could get past the annoyingly selfish fucktwat character of Remi (Remington)--passed off as the main character and heroine of this story--enough to enjoy it. Seriously.

The characters in this story just didn't work for me. The guys (or harem), individually, were likeable, but as a whole, I was not impressed. These guys are supposed to be ex-Army Rangers. That shit is not your run-of-the-mill military persona. Think Delta Force, Green Berets, Navy Seals and Force Recon--these guys are supposed to be THE BEST OF THE BEST. Their training is beyond brutal and intense and skips straight to "damn near impossible". Therefore, when I'm told they are ex-Rangers, I'm expecting some pretty bad-ass guys. That's NOT at all what I got. I ended up getting guys who are haphazard and are constantly one-upped by an annoying AF main character who is equal parts unlikeable and mentally unstable.

Since this was written by authors that I normally really enjoy, I think my disappointment was even more profound. I really expected more. I'm obviously in the minority in my opinion, and that is okay, but I just couldn't get on board with this one.

Madix, Brant and Theo find themselves in a sleepy little town following their medical discharges from the Army Rangers. Madix has damaged hearing, Theo lost part of his leg and Brant has PTSD. Living in the small, close-knit town in the middle of nowhere has helped them regain some normalcy. When a devastating virus hits the world, the Sheriff asks the guys to take on the mission of traveling 500 miles to retrieve his "kid". Turns out Remington is a she, not a he as they assumed. The three damaged soldiers quickly find themselves attracted to Remi who knows exactly what she wants inside and outside the bedroom and has no problem voicing her desires.

There were a lot of things I liked about the book. I actually liked the premise of the doomsday scenario. I liked the vulnerability of the male characters and how they were brought out of their protective shells by Remi. I even liked how completely crazy Remi was and appreciated her confident sexuality, but there were times she bugged me too. And I loved the twist at the end. Smut factor is 3 out of 5.

I was warned not to read this one, but I thought maybe it would be more entertaining as an audiobook. It was slightly entertaining. Honestly, the ending was the best part, and without that strange surprise keeping things interesting I would have given this 2 stars.

Cooky characters that were medium-level funny but not 'laugh so much I wake my husband up in the middle of the night cackling like a loon' funny.

Contemporary WhyC? That takes place in a small town. A virus epidemic gets reported on the local news and the town goes on lockdown but the sheriff sends 3 ex-military MMCs off to collect his daughter, the FMC.

The FMC has been living off the land by herself for a long time. She is nutty in a crazy cat lady kind of way, just replace cats for chickens and a rat-loving pet opossum. I love it when FMCs have fun interesting pets, but this opossum was just a nuisance.

I don't know what else to say about this one, if you want to try it out I recommend audiobook form. If I had read this I don't think I would have gotten very far, and then I would have missed the ending which put a fun spin on the whole story. But this didn't have a lot of substance to it storywise and the humor missed its mark most of the time. The steamy scenes weren't bad but when I read about a bunch of characters I don't find intriguing or entertaining the sex scenes are automatically lackluster. This held barely medium-level interest for me, so I had the same level of excitement for the smut.

4.5 stars

I really hesitated between 4 or 5 stars and I might change it later on to a 5 because I ended up really loving this book! I mean, I loved it from the beginning but because of that, I know I would have loved to follow these characters a bit more but I understand that with the plot, one novel is enough. I'll miss the guys though ;)

I read some reviews and it seems like a few people didn't really enjoy the FMC and they thought she was annoying. I can see why they would feel this way, but in my case it didn't bother me at all and I'm grateful for that.

About the ending ... Overall, I found this plot idea quite smart and well executed even though it might not be for everyone!

Well, this book ended in a way that I was not expecting.

The book is based in a post-apocolyptic America. Or maybe a current apocolypse America? Idk. But there is a plague going around called the Handshake Plague. It's taken over 85% of the population of America. The guys, Theo, Madix, and Brant, live in a small town of Endstone. They moved there to have a nice quiet life after having all been medically discharged from the Army.

Well, this plague starts up and the Sherriff of the town asks the boys to go on a rescue mission for his daughter, Remi, who he hasn't seen in years. But Endstone is the perfect place to hide away until the plague gets under control. So the boys agree to get his daughter. Who turns out to be batshit crazy. But hilariously batshit crazy. Lol.

There really wasn't anything to the plot other than the guys going to get Remi. That's literally it. and I'm not even kidding. There really isn't anything to do with this plague because they spend a lot of the duration of the book in the woods. Alone.

Then the end of the book happened and I was just as shocked as the guys. Lol. It was a weird book. But I still enjoyed it. I would've loved a bit more smut. Because the guys and Remi were so sexually driven. But there really wasn't a lot. But whatevs. *shrugs*

Everything about the blurb screamed “Awesome” to me. The prospect of this unknown virus + RH + dystopia had me more than a little excited. And here I am ——-> feeling so beyond underwhelmed. Sure the characters were fun and funny but, I’m sorry, literally nothing plot wise happens in this story. The guys are sent to pick Remi up and bring her home. And they do, with only a car accident and a strange run in with some people in the woods. Oh and surprise the whole thing was a sham, a town practicing out its doomsday scenario with three unfortunate Rangers who are dragged into the mix. Ummm what?!?! That’s it? That’s all we get?!? I’m just 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ let down I guess, I was expecting so much more but there was nothing exciting aside from Remi’s animals getting into mischief. There really was so much detail and I really enjoyed the characters. Especially Remi who was so brazen and wild you can’t help but love her. Remi is so outspoken, it was nice having a strong and proud female lead who not only initiates group sex but demands it!! She appears more capable than all the guys surviving, despite their training through most of the whole book. It’s not until we learn about the town that we really get why she’s so skilled surviving on the land.
I kept waiting for something explosive to happen. For the climax to drop a bomb and all hell to break loose. And instead we got nothing, zilch, nada, it’s so upsetting. What this story needs is more, more action, more mystery and certainly more plot. Not to mention the punchline felt old, overused, something that’s just not surprising anymore. Movies and books have done this for years, I’m desensitized I guess. I’m so sad I’m left feeling this way because I really enjoyed the ride and the characters were hilarious but this was not a favorite!

This book was fun! The ending was a little wtf, but it was in fun. I liked how Remi was always herself and wasn't afraid to be herself, even if she was a little kooky. I really liked how they were all good for each other.

I had to bring it to four stars. I listened to the audio version, and they had the same male voice actor read all their parts and he didn't differentiate between their voices much, so they all kind of blurred together. He also did a very annoying voice for Remi, imo.

Unfortunately I thought I would like this more than I did, I found it boring and slow. What managed to keep this a 3* for me was the twist at the end......which was awesome😊👌

Plot twist!

I read it. I really didn’t like Remi. Then it ended and it all came together. And I liked it. The end.

This book is exactly what you think it is

I consumed this via audiobook

⏰️7hr 44min

🗣Virginia Rose
✨️Dual narration

Multi POV🙌

So this was Entertaining from start to finish and a little bit ridiculous but so good

I laughed out loud so many times and this book was pretty enjoyable

Raven Kennedy  and Ivy Asher never disappoint.

This is a slowish burn, why choose romance that takes place in a small town when they get news the hand shake plague starts to take over and they all have to prepare for the end of the world. It follows the story of 3 ex military men who get asked to go on one last mission, to get Sheriff April's kid and bring them back.

The characters are enjoyable and the FMC is ridiculous and I love it 😅 I definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a feel good read with end of the world vibes.

This one was outrageously ridiculous and I was here for it 🙌😂

The 'handshake plague' 👍

Loved that the guys were all going through something and she was there to help them. (And of course, Puddles the service dog too)

I am always a sucker for wacky, crazy pets and a possum with rat mates..... 😂😂😂😂 uh-huh 🤣🤪

Well what can I say. Loved the ending. Remi was fantastic and then there is Coon. The guys were a bit hit and miss. I struggled in the first few chapters and was getting bored when it picked up and in the end I couldn't read fast enough.

Probably 4.5 stars..rounding it up because I just looked through my highlights again and had even more laughs. Epic title and oh so fitting with the story! Love this whole dang thing! My girl, Raven Kennedy, and Ivy Asher have teamed up to bring you this perfect and oh so dang ridiculous April story! Where do they even get this stuff! These author's had me legit rolling and I'm wondering if either of them are out there moonlighting as comedians or something because the laughs just kept coming.

Welcome to the small town of Endstone where it seems our MC's are about to make their last stand as the world ends around them. Army Rangers Madix, Theo and Brant have been through thick and thin together, and are the only survivors from their unit overseas. Moving to the small town of Endstone to cope with their injuries and flashbacks as well as get a fresh start away from any hustle and bustle, everything is going great until the local news reports a plague breakout all over the world and CDC vaccinations are failing all the while mortality rates are climbing. The towns old sheriff who has welcomed them to town and made them fit right in asks them for a small favor, rescue his kid from out in the boonies of Idaho. Our 3 heros of course suit up for one last HooRAh, rescue the kid. Shockingly enough upon arriving at the rescue site they find good ole Remi, blond, buxom, takes no crap from anyone and has a mouth on her that sailors are envious of. Thats right the sherriffs kid is a woman.. a very free spirited and very free with her sexual expression woman. Now they have to convince this mouthy girl who keeps a rodent harrem, has a chicken named Mother Clucker, and gives the best bear hugs this side of the Mississippi that she must "Come with me if you want to live" (insert Arnold Voice). The epic adventure begins as all 4 battle for dominance up until the men realize who is boss. Will they make it back in time before the world goes to crap? or are other things afoot?

Epic and oh so entertaining! Love these hot mess heroines!

Holy wow.

I don't think I've read a book with more crazy people. But ya know, it was different and refreshing. And hot.

I'm glad I didn't know the specifics of "that ending" that other reviews mentioned. The heroine always has the upper hand, in my opinion, so to finally see those three fools realize they were the dummies, it felt good.

If you're looking for something different and entertaining, I definitely recommend this one.

Hmmmm. Mixed feelings here

This book was not at all what I expected. While that's usually a good thing for me i found this plot a bit dull. Lots of sex. Reverse harem. MMMF. It was.ok but not one I'd recommend.

2 1/2* not really my cup of tea. Remi was very annoying. Just wanted her to shut up. The three guys were well written. Just too over-the-top didn't find it funny, except for "too tight pants".....

Twisted humor

The town seemed so normal even with the crazy Dahrla taking off her clothes all of the time. I should have known there was more to the retired Sheriff with a daughter named Remington. Handshake Plague sounded really bad and scary.

I liked that the story was primarily told from the guys POV. Each was so different yet their bond went deep. Remington was a spitfire and the guys didn't know what to do with her at first. I loved their adventure and romance.

This story has a great mix of comedy, romance, and one twisted funny ending.

3.5 stars..

book is funny, hero's are great cause they all have some kind of disability, and i love authors that are all inclusive. also, hero's are of different heritages so again, all-inclusive cause there should be a white man, hispanic and black dude.

April's Fools was my first book by either of these authors and I thought the story was alright. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I listened to the audio and not sure if it's because I listened to the audio, but I found myself laughing at the antics of the characters. Sure, they were hot when they needed to be, but their personalities were just a bit much (especially Remington and a couple local small town folks) and had me smirking and laughing especially when they were all together.

Now, for the story. It was kind of ironic that this book was published about a year BEFORE our pandemic hit and this story is about a pandemic. Albeit a much more insane one but I found that I was more entertained because of the premise. 3 ex-Army Rangers are living in a small town and are given a mission/request to go pick up the Sheriff's kid that lives hundreds of miles away so they can all be together during the pandemic. What they find is a crazy woman with a questionable living situation. Not what they were expecting at all. For being ex-Army, I found it kind of funny that they were upended by this woman time and time again. Sure, this is fiction, but it was pieces like this that had me shaking my head in a not so good way. But the 3 ex military (Theo, Madix and Brant) all have different issues stemming from their stint in the army and Remi is just an interesting character that wants all 3 men. What do the 3 men think of Remi and how far can she push them?

Overall, the book was entertaining and I liked the reverse harem trope. I don't read a lot of those, but I like when we get a strong woman that is unabashedly herself and isn't afraid of her sexuality. The men all definitely had their own personalities to balance out the 4 of them. I just wish their military training was more prevalent when dealing with Remi. And that ending? Hmmmm....a twist that again had me shaking my head.

I don't think i have ever left a 2 star review before! And feel rotten for doing so. I love both these authors so this is difficult for me.

I stopped reading at half way through, i just didnt want to carry on. I went into this book expecting some fab action based around the world ending with a deadly virus. I thought Remington was going to be kick ass not. Cray cray.

I was expecting a kick ass RH but there just felt like there wasny any world building it. Once page after pafe went by and there was nothing apart from crazy Remy to sexual innuendos with the guys and zero about the world going to pot and zero action i just couldnt go any further.

Sad that i just didnt get into it. Not for me.
