Sentenced to death for killing her alien master, Greta’s only hope is a compassionate guard. Despite his frightening appearance, she is drawn to the massive alien - but is what she feels only gratitude?
Mikaroz has been waiting his whole life for the perfect mate but he never expected her to be a condemned prisoner, let alone a small human female. He cannot allow her to die for defending her honor, no matter what he has to do to save her.
With their lives on the line, can Greta risk trusting him—with her life, and her heart?
A standalone romance set in the Alien Abduction universe, the events in this story overlap the events at the end of Cam and the Conqueror. For mature readers only.
Greta and the Gargoyle is book seven in the Alien Abdication series by Honey Phillips.
I picked this one up; because the events in it overlap with the end of Cam and the Conqueror. Even though I DNF’d Cam and the Conqueror I still wanted to read this one and I’m happy I did.
Mikaroz, our gargoyle hero is so sweet and Greta is a capable heroine. I adored these two together.
I enjoyed learning about the gargoyle's in this universe. It’s a fast-paced insta-love romance. It’s fun, a little dangerous, sweet, and sexy.
I think this is the end for me in reading the Alien Abduction series. After 4 books I'm just not hooked enough to continue on.
I have THE BIGGEST soft spot for big, fierce aliens who have a gentle side they only show to their special someone. THE BIGGEST.
Mikaroz certainly has the big and fierce thing down. Although, to be fair, he did kind of show his concern for Greta to one of the other guards. So, okay. Just go with it. Because I liked these two. I liked that Mikaroz tried to help her when she was so obviously not doing well. I liked that Greta trusted the big guy even though she was in the worst position possible.
I liked this book. It was fun and a little dangerous and fierce, sweet aliens who will do anything to protect their special someone are my thang.
I discovered this author a couple of months ago, and every book is just better than the one before. I felt extremely intrigued with Mikaroz during the last book (Cam and the Conqueror) and of course, was curious about what happened in the station while Kievan was delivering/rescuing Cam.
Greta was kidnapped from home and sold into slavery. Now living on a ship awaiting her death sentence for killing her master, she encounters Mikaroz who is one of the guards.
Mikaroz encounters Grace aboard the ship she's being held on awaiting her sentencing for killing her master. He finds her intriguing and wants to try and help her but he's not sure about how to do that.
Mikaroz uses his own credits to get Greta something to eat but so far she's refused anything and he doesn't understand why. So he tries to give her a translator so they can communicate but that doesn't go as planned at first because after all she's been through, she doesn't trust anyone. But once he is able to talk to her and find out what kind of foods she will eat, they talk more and his feelings get deeper for her.
When a dangerous situation arises aboard the ship, Mikaroz decides to help Greta escape her fate and he's hoping she'll stay with him once she's free. If she were able to get back home I'm not sure she would have stayed with him but she sees that he really cares for her and in truth she starts to have strong feelings for him when he puts his life on the line for her.
I haven't read this series so I wasn't sure I wouldn't be completely lost while reading this but I wasn't. I won this book back when Amazon was still doing the giveaways and figured I'd give it a read at some point. It was a short novella length story and I really liked these two.
Mikaroz found his mate in the feisty Greta and she found a gargoyle alien to love after having gone through a terrible ordeal.
It was about a totally helpless human female who was imprisoned for defending herself against the horrors of her new 'master'. Imprisoned, it takes the kindness of one of her guards (Mikaroz the gargoyle) to give her a taste of happiness. Action and a bit of sex... can't really complain. It overlaps the story of Cam and the Conqueror, so it was neat to see those characters again.

Me pareció súper dulce!
3.5⭐ for me, because I just didn't totally connect with it, but this SFR novella has a lot going for it:
🗿 MMC is a caregiving cinnamon-roll gargoyle prison guard. He's also a virgin who's been waiting for his fated mate.
👩 FMC is a kidnapped Earth girl, in jail for killing the alien who bought & tried to rape her (briefly recalled).
💋 Cute scenes of FMC teaching MMC about kissing.
🍆 There's also a public beej scene (I found it too ludicrous but ymmv).
👅 You know that microtrope (common in HR) where the MMC gives the FMC an Australian Kiss, and then later she innocently invents blowjobs by saying 💡☝🤯 'Hey, is that something I could do to you?' Well it gets flipped here, with him asking her. 😁
𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀 + 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
| bald gargoyle alien w huge wingspan | fmc damsel in distress | protective caregiving mmc | couple angst: low | size difference | "what is kissing?" | non-virgin fmc | virgin mmc | insta-ish | fated mates | public bj | danger/alien riots | no | dual 3rd pov | no audiobook | free with KU | standalone in series | ~29k word novella |
The focus is on Mikaroz a wonderful marshmallow gargoyle of a guard who we met in book 3 and Greta... a abductee that finds herself in custody following her killing her ex master. This book takes part at the same time towards the end of book 3 as well. It can be read as a standalone.. but this series is so freaking great... why would you want to miss out on all the stories?
Filled with a fantastic story and bucketfuls of chemistry this was a pleasure from start to finish.
A fast fun read with elements of 'love on the run'. Prisoner on a space station about to descend into rioting, Greta is rescued by Mikaroz a winged alien prison guard. With the classic, alien-needs-mate trope, the insta-love is almost believable, and Greta's attempts to find something edible on the alien space station made me smile.
This was only my second or third foray into alien romance and I found it pretty enjoyable. This book was cute. It was short. It was sweet. Sure, it had a few issues. I think this genre just isn't really my thing. My brain was all over the place with a million questions. Maybe it's my fault for not starting from the beginning of the series. Or maybe it's just that I chose a novella. Or both! It's probably both. Either way, an 88 page mid-series novella is not the smartest place to start. I just wanted something different and short. Mission accomplished.
So Greta (human) has been sentenced to death for killing her alien master. Who definitely deserved it. She's in a cell, she can't eat what's being fed to her because it makes her sick, and she's pretty much wasting away. She can't understand anyone's language to communicate. Then she gets Mikaroz as one of her guards. He's sweet and is immediately taken with Greta. He feels an inexplicable desire to protect her and is strangely attracted to her. Oddly, Greta feels the same way. Then stuff happens. Mikaroz is determined to help Greta any way he can. Honestly, it was really adorably romantic.
The writing was fine. There were some grammar issues, but nothing major. It was cute!
BUT.
There are so many things I wanted to know! I don't really mean plot-wise. I don't care why someone was abducted. When. How. The book was pretty good about filling in off page plot without hitting you over the head with it. Actually, I think my questions are almost inconsequential. But they are still there! How do you know if having sex is going to work? If you have a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy style ear translator, how do the other aliens still speak in slang you don't understand? Aren't you worried about pregnancy? Can you get pregnant from an Alien? How old is Mikaroz? How long is his life expectancy? Are there sexually transmittable diseases between species? And yes, if you're reading this and rolling your eyes because these questions are ridiculous and besides the point, I totally agree with you. But I can't help it, damnit! This is a series, so maybe some of my questions are answered in books I didn't read. And I certainly don't mean that my questions made this book a bad read. Quite the opposite, honestly. I wanted to know these things because I was so interested. This seems to be a really well-liked series and you happen to love this genre, you might want to give it a go. Just...start at the beginning.
Excellent entertainment! This is a quick read, a delicious romance with a H/h as sweet as can be! Mikaroz is a gem, a diamond in the rough. He’s big and strong, with an intimidating appearance, yet he treats Greta with gentleness and respect. I love his reaction to his first ‘keess’ and different expressions Greta uses. Greta is no slouch! She can’t behave unkindly to the one person, in this hideous situation, who has been kind to her. She’s more than willing to defend herself and her Mikaroz, if need be. There is plenty of action; they’re in a very dangerous position. But through it all, weaves a beautiful love story!
Mikaroz is a prison guard who likes Greta but he doesn't take advantage of his power over her. He kicks butt and let's her help, even if he doesn't want to. There relationship develops quick in part due to some issues at the space station.
Sweet and hot, a very good way to start the new year. Honey Phillips is my new author crush, I love her stories and they keep getting better and better. 5 I want a Gargoyle stars
A wonderful story of another human in space who falls in love with an alien gargoyle!
This story takes place during the events of Cam and the Conqueror, on the space station owned by Kievan Rus, just before the end of that book.
Greta is a nice human girl who gets abducted and ends up in jail for killing the alien who was going to rape her. One of the guards feels a mate bond for her. Much excitement and tender feelings ensue as they navigate their burgeoning relationship and the violence taking place around them. It has a lovely ending.
I decided to give this author another chance after absolutely hating the Alien Invasions series (Alien Conquest and Alien Prisoner), but loving her entry to the cosmic fairy tales. This is a cute short story. I enjoyed the shy hero, the heroine who was cautious but also not afraid to go for what she wanted. I love heroes who are on the heroine's side 100%. Watching the heroine fall for him was enjoyable and heart-warming. I'm glad I gave it another try!
I will be honest though, not sure I'll try the others in this series. Commander Kievan or whatever his name is and his mate Cam look like a sub dom type relationship and I don't trust this author to handle that well.
Ok I am going to be brutally honest here. I like Honey Phillips work but honestly this one seemed rushed and not very throughly thought out.
For one there is little to no character develoment, the romance is akin to an insta-love (I hate those) so there was no chemistry between the two main characters. There was really no backstory to either character besides a few passing explanations about their past so I couldn't really get a grasp of their personalities other than they were always horny. Theres so much more I could go into but those are just my own pet peeves so I'll leave those complaints to myself. But there is one I will mention. When I read an action scene, I want to see it, not be told about it, if that makes any sense.
The story has potential, it could be a great one but it needs work.
When I read a book its like watching a movie in my head. If I had to compare this book to anything, it would be a made for T.V. Scifi channel movie but with sex scenes. Not that great.
I stumbled across Honey when I had finished another authors books. I have been on a bit of a sci fi romance blitz. Just something to get lost in other than the norm. Where you can do what you want because it is sci fi.
Trust me you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed this one so much that I am now working my way through all her books. Gotta love Kindle Unlimited.
𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖/𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: This one was a much shorter read than the rest and I sort of enjoyed more because of that. It's was sweet and quick, yet the story was complete and well-built. We got to see Mikaroz find a mate finally. I had almost forgot about him until I started reading and then I recalled him from a few books back! I loved the protectiveness of Mikaroz and I love having a winged hero. This was a little steamy, cute, and fun. A great addition to the series. I enjoyed it!
*WARNING* for mature reader due to adult situations Mikaroz is a gargoyle and a guard on the space station. Mikaroz knows the odd little human prisoner is off limits. Mikaroz has to fight his attraction, but he can try to make sure she eats. Greta may be sitting a prison cell in space, but she feels no remorse for killing the slimy alien that was trying to rape her. Greta is so hungry, but the nice, gray, winged guard doesn't understand that the food he brings makes her sick. Greta can't understand the odd attraction she has toward the gentle giant. Is it hunger? Is it because she's been in captivity for to long. I luved this story! There is a book mentioned that comes before this one where Mikaroz is first introduced, but I didn't read it and I don't feel as though I missed anything. Gargoyles are great is stories, and this one has an almost child like quality to him when first around Greta. I think Ms. Phillips has done a great job in making a gargoyle threatening, but not scary....loving, but not a push over. I highly recommend this book for any adult who likes goyles and HEAs.
I loved this book. fast paced an action packed, there was a lot about it that reminded me of old westerns or war movies. A couple, newly in love, desperate to survive against all odds and an unending enemy. Greta is so pragmatic. She is a survivor, but she understands that the odds of her survival are low and so she takes her pleasure where she can find it. She is honest with herself, and generous with those who help her, while being unafraid to defend herself even when it means killing her attacker. She’s a really good example of an average human woman; strong and confident, but fragile too, with a generous heart and enough backbone to get her through most troubles. Her gargoyle, on the other hand, is a wonderful combination of alpha male and bashful virgin. He is strong and sweet, protective and caring, huge and sexy. I especially appreciated that they were just ordinary people. There was no billionaire, warlord, emperor blah blah blah. This book will definitely go on my reread list.
This is a very easy read !! I enjoyed this book immensely and , as always, I enjoyed reading about past characters from this series . This book is about Mikaroz, a gargoyle type of being that I first read about in Cam ' s story with Kievan ,in Cam and the Conqueror . Even J'esst is in here !!! Greta is a kidnapped human who killed her master ( who Knew his head was So Soft !! - hahaha ) , before he could harm her . Go Greta !!! Great has been sent to the space station to await her execution. Mikarov, is one of her guards , and recognizes her as his Mate. So , when the opportunity presents itself, he rushed her out to saftey. Except that the escape he has planned fell through !!! What Now ???? This story made me laugh and smile , especially with the miscommunication of the translation devices, and although it was somewhat scary in parts, I found it extremely entertaining !!!
This is the first book that I've read in this Honey Phillips series, although I have read some of her other book. So what! Yes, I skipped straight to the book with the gargoyle and have absolutely no regrets about it. The thing I did not like about this book was that it is the shortest one in the series :( Gargoyles Deserve more love, dang it. What I liked about this book was that each book in the series is short and can be read in an afternoon. So if you are having one of those time were you want to read and finish a book in a day this is your series. I loved that each book can be read out of order, it only makes you want to go back and read the other books ;) Lastly I loved that Mikaroz was just a regular guy. No grand stereotype of being a fleet commander, prince or some other leader. Just a guy, who is willing to do everything it takes to keep his make happy and safe.
The sight of her tears brought a distressed sound from his throat and she tried to smile.
Such a wonderful book. Insta love, alien peen, happily every after? Yes please!
It is our custom to wait for our mate. And you were worth waiting for, dulzurra.”
Human Greta had been abducted from Earth and eventually sold to an alien master who she killed. She is stuck in a prison cell and her only hope is a prison guard who appears to be compassionate. The question is any feelings she has for him are they real or are they just gratitude? Gargoyle Mikaroz waited until he found the perfect mate but unexpectedly he finds her to be human prisoner Greta. He cannot let her die for defending herself and is determined to do whatever he has to if it saves her! Can they succeed to be free and can she trust him with her heart so they can be together?
I enjoyed this story which had a strong human woman with an even stronger alien man finding a way to experience love together. I enjoyed the jeopardy of the care he took for her while she was in prison as well as their escape in dramatic circumstances. It was a great ending to the story and a fitting HEA. Contains explicit sexual content.
