Almost everything she thought she knew is wrong…

A trip to the city yields some much-needed answers, but Jax is once again forced to leave Lir behind and return to Peter’s cabin—where enemies from her past await. But there are bigger things at stake than revenge, and she finds herself traveling with some unexpected companions toward a place she hoped to never see again.

After being imprisoned on the orders of his uncle, Lir hasn’t seen daylight or linked to anyone in weeks, and the pain and loneliness is almost too much to bear. But Jax’s visit gives him renewed hope—and the strength to continue fighting his uncle's influence over the E'rikon, even when things look hopeless.

While Jax and Lir fight separate battles, their missions have more in common than they realize. It’s a race against time to stop men driven by greed and power. But the ones they trust the most might be the very people working against them—and "family" doesn't mean what it used to. Will they recognize their friends from their enemies in time to save the people they love…or will they lose each other in the process?

The only person she knows who had a subscription to Writer's Digest at eleven and was always excited to write research papers, Theresa has been putting words to paper since a young age. Living in the mountains of central Virginia with her husband and two kids, she works as a paralegal by day, binges on Netflix at night and finds bits of time in between reading almost everything she can get her hands on and laundry to craft stories that tend to feature broken characters in sci-fi or paranormal worlds, with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure.

She's constantly lost in one fictional universe or another and is a self-proclaimed “fangirl” who loves being sucked in to new books or TV shows. Theresa originally wanted to write horror novels as an ode to her childhood passion for Stephen King novels, but between her internal Muse’s ramblings and the constant praise for her sci-fi pieces from her writer’s group – The Rebel Writers – she knew she should stick with what was working.

Ok, enough talking about myself in the third person… I love interacting with readers, so if you want to shoot me a line, you can connect with me on Facebook and Tumblr Even if it’s not about my books, I like chatting about my (many) fandoms, books and reading in general, or just about anything really.

Just gonna go ahead and get this out of the way... Fractured Suns does not suffer from second book syndrome... it was AMAZING!!!! The Broken Skies Series is a true hidden gem! This is a series that is WAY under-hyped! Theresa Kay makes writing look easy. Fractured Suns is the second book in the Broken Skies Series and again doesn't disappoint. When Theresa contacted us again to review her second novel I had "give me hands' ' flying all over the place! I knew I needed it but had no clue how much I was going to get out of it.

Fractured Suns picks right up where Broken Skies ended. I'm going to keep this review 100% spoiler free because if you can’t tell by now I'm very pro team-read this series. We have Jax, our leading lady. She continues to be a strong willed, stubborn, powerhouse of a heroine. She is such a strongly written female character and in this book we continued to get so much out of her. With her new found strength and power she really becomes a force to be reckoned with. Then we have Lir, who really steps up his game in this book. He is a strong, supportive, swoon worthy, amazing male character. Since this book is written in dual POV (100% A POSITIVE THING FOR THIS NOVEL) we get so much more out of both these characters and it makes their stories intertwine so seamlessly and it really pulls this novel together. Their relationship is just such a joy to read and get to experience. Though their relationship, of course, is a fictional one it feels so real. They are still new to it and are learning that trust and communication is the key to getting past anything. These two together have me head over heels with being head over heels in love. They have skyrocketed and easily have become one of my favorite book couples. I can't wait to see where they're relationship heads in book three. Especially with how the story is left off.

We also have a lot more secondary characters in this book. Sadly, I wont get to mention all because some are new players. We do however get a lot more Rym time! Which made this girl a happy camper. LOVE HIM!!! and his horrible comic timing. We also get a lot more Jace and Flint. These two characters were ones I knew would be important, but going into this book had no true sense on how much we were going to get out of them. Their characters took this book to a whole new level! (I wish yall could see my face right now.... It's.... Ugh... My mouths open and my hands are fan-girl flapping around... I'm struggling to form actual words!) These two... Just wow. These characters are what would have made this novel a "make-or-break" for me. They made this novel.

The best part of Fractured Suns in my opinion is its pace. You're never overwhelmed by one certain aspect. It has the perfect mixture of action packed scenes, romance, character development, and set this series. Even the scenes that are not fast paced action moments are still filled with amazing Easter eggs and little hidden treasures. Wait, did I say the pace was my favorite part?... I might have lied, the plot twist was my favorite part. Trust me when I say you think you'll have the "big reveal" figured out.... BUT YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!!! You might be right about a few things that will happen, but you still won't be ready for what happens. I thought I knew exactly where this book was headed... but when the actual twist happens... I seriously jumped off the sofa, started throwing pillows around, pulling my hair, and then balled my eyes out. I'll never again make the mistake of turning my back to you Theresa, because it's clear you're not above shoving a knife into it and then twisting!

What an amazingly perfect, gripping, and heart breaking twist... No, not just a twist, but a story. This series needs to be on shelves everywhere and moved to the top of your TBR list. Theresa was clearly born to write. She is a writer I could easily see slip into other genres like New Adult and Contemporary and again make it look like she has been doing it forever

This is a knockout novel and series that continues to surprise me. Fractured Suns will have you paying for the whole seat... but you're only going to use the edge of it.

DEAR THERESA KAY,

description

"In the face of everything we’ve been through, both together and separately, nothing matters right now but the fact that, for this moment, we are both breathing and not alone."

I don't even know where to begin. I guess by thanking the book gods first because Fractured Suns isn't a product of Second Book Syndrome. Fractured Suns is not a filler so if you loved the first book, Broken Skies, and you're afraid that the sequel will disappoint you.... please banish that thought right away. Second, thank you Theresa for not letting your readers down. That looooooong time you took to release the sequel is oh so worth it. :D I already know that Theresa will drop a bomb but I didn't expect it to be this explosive!

Fractured Suns started with Jax already living in the woods with her brother, Flint, Peter and her grandfather. At first I thought I have to wait ages for Jax and Lir's reunion but Theresa is full of surprises, she gave that moment to her readers immediately and introduced a deeper plot. Turns out, Fractured Suns is more than just the love story of Jax and Lir. Its action packed, dramatically written and fast paced. New characters will be introduced, old ones will make appearance and the challenges that our main characters will face will be doubled. Because this isn't about the two of them anymore.... the whole world, at least what's left of it, is at stake.

I always knew that Jax was a badass and kind of a softie especially when in comes to the people she cares about. But here at Fractured Suns, you will get to know her even better. Jax went through a lot in this book. I'll warn you now that it wasn't smooth sailing through the whole novel. Jax is still understanding things about herself and going through all of this with trust issues. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the character progression that happened. Jax is still caring and badass but she absolutely grew up a lot in this book. She learned, she made mistakes and she fought. I just know that I will root for Jax whatever happens.

Theresa Kay heard my prayers and gave us Lir POV's and it was golden.

"Bond or no bond, she is my future and I will not let her go again"

Feeeeeeels, people. Feels. I have nothing but FEELS.

I honestly can't say anything anymore without turning into a crazy fangirl who will just type nonsense about my love for Jax and Lir so I really have to stop right here. Fractured Suns is absolutely satisfying and worth the wait. Theresa Kay just proved why this series deserves to be on your reading list.

*Spoilers for Broken Skies #1 (but the 1st paragraph is safe to read)*

Oh you guys.   This book.  This amazing book.  I tear up even thinking about this story, because Fractured Suns was breathtaking.  It quickly pulled me back into the story and I found myself immersed in a world and surrounded by characters that I love.  And be prepared, because my emotions felt as though they were being pulled all over the place.  Happy and sad tears streaked down my face while I spent a good portion of the story smiling.  This book was so much fun.  It had peril, heartbreak, action, lies, betrayal, love and I was definitely glued to the pages.  But you want to know what the kicker was?  I’m not one of those people who will read until the wee hours of every night because my kiddos wake up at 6am, or earlier if I’m lucky ha.  But Fractured Suns refused to be put down.  I stayed up until 2:35am to finish, and it was so worth it!
“If our only focus is survival, then we’re no better than them.  Without compassion...without forgiveness...we’re nothing but animals.” - Jax

We get to jump right back into the story at Peter’s cabin, where Jax is stuck because her brother Jace is healing from a broken leg.  Their E’rikon grandfather, Jastren, is there along with her brother’s boyfriend, Flint.  While her brother, grandfather and Peter are away gathering supplies, Jax gets a chance to go back and see Lir with Rym.  After their too brief encounter, they both find themselves fighting and struggling on their own journeys.  Without each other.
He lied.  He manipulated me.  He used me.  And when it came down to it, he made his choice. - Jax

When Jax and Lir met for that first time after the bond had been broken, eeks!!!!  I was terrified because I wanted to push them together and yell at them to kiss and make up.  But in all honestly, they really haven’t known one other for that long.  Can they even trust each other?  Jax still harbors so much hurt from Lir’s betrayal.  And with Lir not having a functional kitu , he doesn’t know how to trust others without being able to sense their feelings.  And as the story progresses, I fell even more in love with both of them.  Jax and Lir grow throughout the story and it made my heart so happy with the choices and decisions that they had to make.  No matter how hard they were.  Jax is still resourceful and savvy but her heart becomes something truly beautiful.  And Lir.  Swoon!  Charming, brave, smart and sincere, Lir is one sexy alien!
"You would kill him for what he is," I say. "But you never asked what I was." I smile sweetly and bat my eyelashes right before I place a single finger to his temple - and send every bit of the fire raging through me straight into his head. - Jax

So of course I was devastated when Jax had to leave Lir, because there is still so much up in the air.  But guess what?  In Fractured Suns we got to be in both Jax and Lir’s head!  I loved that we finally got to hear Lir’s thoughts.  To see what he thought of Jax, because I have been obsessively trying to figure it all out once I finished the last page in Broken Skies!  For a few of Lir’s chapters, the story seemed to move at a slower pace, compared to Jax’s crazy journey.  But in the end, it made sense that we had to understand the people he was surrounded with, what he had gone through, and how he wanted to proceed.  I get it, and it more than made sense.
If I stop to think, if I do anything but move forward… I will fall apart.  And this time I won’t be able to put the pieces back together. - Jax

But there is one point in the story that I never saw coming.  Everyone was asleep while I read that scene and I needed sob out loud.  To let out all of the pain.  But instead I had to bite my lip and allow the tears to continuously stream down my face.  Silently speaking the devastation I witnessed.  That twist left me in utter shock.  The ramifications, oh.  I’m at a loss.  But in a twisted way, I love when books can affect me that intense.  That I can feel that deep of a connection to characters and their feelings.  I just wish it didn’t hurt that much.

So yes, I definitely recommend this book and series!  I can’t wait to see what the final book has in-store for Lir and Jax!

**UPDATE 8/8/14**

I've been a very busy girl lately and Fractured Suns is nearly complete. That's the good news. The not-so-good news is that Fractured Suns won't be out this September(please don't throw things at me :) It'll be late for a *very* good reason. You see, about a month ago THIS happened.

I know so many of you are excited to find out what happens next and I'm so grateful for all your support and enthusiasm. I'll still be posting teasers and more Lir POVs and I hope you'll stick with me through this transition.

I recieved this book because I begged for it! Okay, maybe not begged, but I did volunteer to review for honesty. This is the second book in the series and can be catorgorized as dystopian/sci-fi-ish. This story was fast paced. I couldn't put it down. I literally stayed up till about one in the morning finishing it.

It was fecking amazeballs! The growth of the characteres in this book was many layered and detailed. I found the pacing faster than BS. The plot was more intricate and the romance had evolved deeply. There are some differences in this book compared to the last one. I will not go into many because if I start then I will end up spoiling it, and I just don't like to do that. I will say that all the loose ends I wanted tied up in this book were. Which is a major deal to me. Sometimes I make a list because I'm a teensy bit anal retentive. Moving on...

This book has a dual POV! Do you know what this means? I get to be inside Lir's head and that is pretty sexy to me. I am constantly amazed by this authors talent when it comes to emotions. Jax holds a lot of anger inside. Its described so well I found myself getting mad too. I call that emotional transfer. This author is very good at it. This book is suitable for ages 14 and up IMO but the little things, like a touch or a look are described so well and with wonderful innuendo that it seems as though more happens than actually does. I found it a very mature and realistic relationship. For teenagers who had to grow up fast with a shitty past.

At times Jax seems a bit reckless and very stubborn, but this is really who she is as a character so it was consistent in that aspect.
Lir has more responsibility and this is different from the last book as well. I enjoyed his internal conflict, what he wanted versus what was needed for his people.
I found Lir's 'voice' softer than Jax's this book around. Which I contributed to his growth as a character. (love of Jax, thinking beyond his own grief from last book) Lir's plot wasn't as strong as Jax's, again I assumed that was intentional since, you know, Jax is the MC and the author doesn't want to steal her thunder.

I can't go on. It's spectacular! Go forth and buy it when it comes out! You must have this book in your mind before you die! That is all.

August 2015: OMG, I'm starting this :DDD Thank you so much to the author for giving me an ARC! YOU ROCK!!

Here's my review for the first book Broken Skies.

March 2015: The Broken Skies series is a hidden gem and it's definitely worth checking out!

I enjoyed the first book more than I thought I would and now I anticipate the author will top it off with an incredible sequel.

Jax, baby, you know I miss your fiery temper and your hair on fire (not literally but I'm sure it would be quite a spectacle. I wouldn't missed it.)

This is how I pictured her in Broken Skies, even though this girl looks too innocent and doesn't do Jax justice:

OMG EPIC!!!!!!!!! Yes yes yes, I feel your jealousy and I understand... I was honoured to be a beta reader for this book. And thankfully this time I had people to talk to about it so I didn't have to go insane waiting for release!

OK, so back to the important stuff -- I've actually just finished my second read through of this gem, and let me tell you it's even better a second time through. It's like one of those movies that is awesome the first time through, but on each viewing you start noticing more and more. The intricacy of the plot left me a bit dazzled the first time through, and holy cow do you notice all the little subtle setups even more the 2nd time around. I'm not saying it wasn't amazeballs the first time through, I'm just stuck in happy land over here and amazed at all the little nuances that I may not have noticed b/c I was a bit greedy when I first got this in my grubby little hands. *snort* I know, shocker right?

Quite frankly, I'm still reeling. Ms. Kay sets a perfect pace in this book -- not too fast that things get lost, but a steady build that keeps you clamouring for more as you go along. Jax is still as fiesty yet broken as ever....but you actually got to see her gain strength as the book went on. Not without setbacks, but that's kind of realistic right? And we get Lir POV!!!!! Still totally in love with that alien boy. I was soooooo worried at the end of book 1....I mean, most of me knew there was an explanation for the bond break, but I was so heartbroken that I wasn't sure I would be able to forgive him. But I did!! While his role in the book is not as prominent (this is still mainly Jax's story), I liked getting to learn more background about the E'rikon through Lir, and I felt like we got to see more of who he is...the struggles he's dealt with.

And that brings me to secondary characters...and specifically how much I LOVED them. Rym turned out to be so much more than I was expecting -- I AM IN LOVE! What's with these E'rikon boys? He was hilarious, and yet had his own depth. Then there was the surprise of Stu! Did NOT see that one coming, and yet his role fit so well. Especially when we got to meet Ethan! LOVED him and what he brought to the story. Still learning to love Emily, but immediately fell in love with Gavin. Can't wait to see more from some of these newbies. And then there's Flint....I did NOT expect how big his role was going to be in this book.

So yeah....another book hangover book. By the time the ending comes, my mind was just whirling with all that we'd learned, and it's going to take a while to process it all. If you fell in love with Broken Skies (and how could you not), then you will not be even remotely disappointed with this book. Solid characters, intriguing world building, fast paced plot, fabulous imagery, and an author that takes risks. The downside? Waiting for book 3 is going to be a bitch....

This eARC was provided to me by the author herself in exchange for an honest review.

Fractured Suns picks up where Broken Skies left off and follows Jax as she deals with the consequences of the last book while still trying to survive.

I will say this was a good sequel, was it better than its predecessor? No not really. What was really different about this book was the dynamics of the characters. Jax was interesting because her knee jerk reactions are now back in action and causes some easy situations to become VERY difficult. Also in this book I could really see who the true villain was and might I say wow.

Now this sequel also holds a very annoying troupe that I really dislike. It’s the separation of the main couple because they are “star-crossed.” But surprisingly I wasn’t annoyed with it in this book. Most of the book was I missing the romance? Yeah duh, I’m a romance whore, but it was a bearable kind of missing. It’s just as good as the separation plot in, World After.

The sole thing that I didn’t really enjoy was the middle of the book. It wasn’t bad but it was slow and I have a lot of struggles reading slow books. I thought that section of the book could really be spiced up a little, where it was a tad more entertaining to read.

But overall I think this was a really well done sequel and once readers get ahold of it they will flip. This book has some surprises in it that you WON’T see coming. I think the writing is just as spot on as it was in book one. Another cool fact to know is that Fractured Suns is done in dual pov, whereas Broken Skies was not. The change in povs isn’t bad, if I had to say what it was and what it wasn’t then I would say: It’s not an Allegiant but a Bloodlines. With how book one ended it for sure needed that dual pov aspect. I really enjoyed getting into Lir’s head and learning more about him and his species. I cannot wait for you guys to continue on with Jax and Lir’s adventures because you won’t be disappointed and you’ll be very very surprised….

Full spoiler review will be posted after the book releases

FOR THIS REVIEW AND MORE: http://southernbredsouthernread.blogs...

Fractured Suns picks up pretty close to where Broken Skies left off. Jax, her brother, Flint, Peter, and Jastren are all holed up in Peter's cabin out in the woods. Jace is still pretty busted up, but he is doing what he can to recover. His relationship Flint, and well everyone, is strained because of the mental stress they have all been under. Jax is still very broken from what Lir did to her, but she is holding herself together so she can be strong for those around her.

Jax is so bad ass in this book. She has made the most progress as far as character development than anyone else. When we first met her in Broken Skies, she was broken and fragile. She needed her brother and relied so heavily on him. Through Broken Skies, she finds Lir and gains strength from their relationship. But in Fractured Suns, she pretty much just says EFF ALL Y'ALL and handles things herself. She is tired of every decision she makes being questioned and tired of everyone treating her like she is still this sheltered, fragile little girl. Once she makes up her mind to take charge of her life and stop relying on other people for strength, she really starts coming into her own.

What really makes this a five star book for me is the bond (no pun intended) that Jax and Lir share. After everything that has happened to them and even despite the fact that are hardly physically together in this book, they still are there for each other no matter what. Yeah, there are times when they doubt each other's motives or whether they can trust one another, but those thoughts are quickly pushed away. When things start to get rough, they go to bat for one another. Lir really steps up for Jax in this book. Jax is... dealing with some things, and even though Lir cannot physically be with her, he does whatever he has to do to take the heat off of her. Jax is so much stronger in this book than she has ever been, but she still needs Lir. It's not the same type of neediness that she possessed before where she had to have someone to be her strength, but now it is the type of need that you really only have with someone you truly love. Lir knows that Jax can handle her own, but he doesn't want her to handle it on her own. He wants to take what he can off of her and put some of the burden on himself because he loves her and he sees what she is going through. They really are one of my all time favorite book couples because there isn't any BS with them. They go through some tough stuff, but the bond that they share is something that even the best love stories out there can't come up with.

So, there are a few twists in this book. Mainly three big ones: one that you can pretty much see coming, one that is a big surprise and came out of left field, and one that left me sobbing on my couch while my dog (literally) licked tears off of my face and gave me a "WTF is wrong with you, mom??" look. Seriously, the last twist that happens caught me so off guard. As it is happening, I was like "Wait.... What? WHAT? OMG WHAT?" and then proceeded to read one of the most heart wrenching moments in alien book history. This last twist also supports my last paragraph on why Lir is so freaking awesome. I won't give any spoilers, but what he does for Jax is something that is absolutely selfless that it left me speechless. I just... I just can't even talk about the scene right now. Too soon. The wounds are too fresh. You're just going to have to read it for yourself.

We also get some pretty kick ass supporting characters in Fractured Suns. Most of them made some sort of appearance in Broken Skies, but now we really get the chance to get to know them. There are three that really stick out for me: Stu, Rym, and Trel. We know Stu from Broken Skies because he was the son of the scum bag Lenny who tried to send Jax off the Breeders. Well, he is back in this one, but let's talk about doing a 180 character flip. Seriously, this dude goes from scum of the Earth in my head to being pretty freaking awesome. Also, Lir's cousins Rym and Trel are back. Rym places a HUGE roll in this book, which is so awesome because he is so funny. He is my soul mate when it comes to making inappropriate jokes at the worst time possible. Seriously, it's one of my super powers. Anyway, I feel like these could have come from the same universe that Jennifer Armentrout's Daemon Black and his crew came from (which is a pretty freaking big statement considering Lux is in my top 5 of all time favorite books). Rym reminds me a lot of Luce from Lux, and Trel reminds me a lot of Ashley. Both awesome characters in their own ways, and both really bring big things to the table.

Overall, this is a fantastic book. I loved Broken Skies, but Fractured Suns knocked it out of the part when it comes to character development, action, and plot twists. I couldn't put the book down, and since we are left on the edge of our seats, I will be anxiously awaiting book three. I can't wait to see where all of my favorite characters end up. If you are a fan of the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout, I absolutely recommend this book to you.

You can find this review and more like it on my blog, Declarations of a Fangirl.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

You know how some sequels fall victim to that Book 2 Syndrome where nothing overly exciting happens but it's the meat of the story line and is essential to the series as a whole? Yeah, that didn't happen with this book. I think I may have loved this one more than Broken Skies. You can find my review of Broken Skies here.

Fair warning: this review is going to be a jumbled mess. I don't even know where to start. The paragraph above is probably the most coherent grouping of thoughts you'll get from me.

This book was amazing. Just. Whoa. Wow. Oh. My. Goodness.
description

I inhaled this book. I couldn't put it down. I read it in one day and fed my kids cereal for dinner. Don't judge me. They love cereal. They were ecstatic and it took me 45 seconds to make dinner.
description

Lots of stuff happened in this book. I don't want to give any of it away, just take my word for it. Lots of action and twists. There isn't a big heaping of romance but the little bit that was in the book.... yesssssssss.
description

A note...make sure you have a box of tissues and a bottle of wine for the last 1/4 of the book because OH. MY. GOSH.

OMG I just died and went to book heaven. Woot Woot I got an arc (after stalking the author for a long time.)

Where to start? I look like crap again, man I could not put this book down.

Normally I tend to get disappointed reading sequels but nope not Broken Skies I loved it as much as the first book.

Jax is the perfect female heroine she strong and loyal she doesn’t shy away from danger for the ones she loves.

Lir sigh………he’s still my favorite alien book boyfriend.

I love the Extraordinary side characters Flint, Peter, Rum , Ethan, Stu, Jace all them come to life in the book it’s like I can see them.

This book was action packed, fast paced, we have drama, people who are not who they appear to be, we have betrayal and off course love.

The setting in a post apocalyptic future- the world building is well done.

The writing excellent, the story has a unique feel that is hard to come by after having read so many books.

I love it 5 stars.

I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of this book or the content of this review.

Fractured Suns
by Theresa Kay is the follow up to Broken Skies and follows Jax and Lir a few months after the attacks in the E’rikon city. ***Please note that if you HAVE NOT READ book one of Broken Skies there are minor spoilers in this review.*** Jax successfully rescued her twin brother Jace from the cruelty of the E’rikon and is now hiding out in the woods with Peter, Flint, and her newfound grandfather Jastern. Lir is still in the city supposedly working with his uncle to launch a full scale war with the humans. But Jax learns quickly that not all is what it seems and sometimes family bonds aren’t strong enough to win out.

OMG!!!! I don’t even….what….argh!!!! SO GOOD!!!! So that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this book. It is so dang good! I couldn’t sit it down and finished it in one night. Sleep was not necessary while reading this book. The suspense, the additional world-building, the link between Lir and Jax….just AH-MAZE-ING!!!!

Jax is more than a little lost this book. She’s thankful to have her brother and best friend, but the link she had with Lir is broken and she doesn’t know why he did it. Her E’rikon grandfather (BIG SURPRISE) is bordering on cruel where she is concerned and she doesn’t know how much or if she should even trust him. She’s confused, hurt, and lonely but she doesn’t stay that way for very long. Her character grows and becomes something I don’t think she’s prepared for!

And Lir….can you hear my happy sigh? The author…God bless her…gave us chapters from Lir’s POV this time and I have to say I loved them. It helped to understand what he was thinking and the decisions he made during Broken Skies. Lir is also broken at the beginning of this book, though he holds it together better than I would. He’s been tortured, beaten, and questioned about the half-breed he brought into the city. He is being blamed for the staged attack on the city and it’s his cousin that offers him help. He doesn’t know who to trust, but he knows he has to find Jax and keep her away from this impending war.

Lir and Jax are not together for more than 90% of the book, so prepare yourselves for that, BUT that makes for two very interesting intersecting plots. Lir is focused on saving his sister, his people, and somehow getting out of the city. Jax is focused on returning to her old home and warning them about the impending attacks. While the book focuses mainly on the impending war between humans and E’rikon, it also focuses on the fractured relationship between Lir and Jax. There’s little romance in this book, but there is plenty of suspense and plenty of action.

Overall I liked this one just as much as the first. It does not suffer from second-book syndrome! Jax and Lir are two of my favorite characters and they really shine in all their brokenness. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for them next book. If you enjoy science fiction, a little alien love, and a good dystopian, this is the book for you. Just remember to read book one first.

Firstly WOW. This book went beyond exceeding my expectations, it just blew my mind. I loved Broken Skies and Fractured Suns was such a perfect sequel I really can't get over how much I loved it. I wanna reread it like right now haha. Just a warning this review may have some Broken Skies spoilers but is spoiler free for Fractured Suns!

The first thing I want to address is that WE GOT LIR'S POV YESSSSS. Although Lir's POV wasn't as action packed as Jax's I still loved it equally because you got to see his struggle and his reasonings for everything in B.S. We got background info on a whole lot of Alien stuff and we got to see how much he really loved Jax.

Moving on to Jax, she broke my heart in this book. She was again SO strong considering the things she had been/ was going through. She was so independent and definitely more wary of things.. Although maybe a bit oblivious to why she was wary about a certain person *cough spoiler alert* FREAKING JASTREN *cough spoiler alert over* Her panic attacks were really intense and just made me want to cuddle her and tell her everything was okay... Although I don't think she'd like that. I mean, like she said to Flint and Jace a thousand times- she didn't need protection or anything.

Can I just say both situations with Flint and Jace in this book broke my heart. I didn't like Jace much from the beginning and I know what happens with him isn't really his fault but I still really wanted to kill him the whole time. As for Flint, he is beautiful and seeing him so much in this book was amazing. Once you read the book we can cry together about him cause yeah.

Lastly a few minor characters:
Jastren- not who I expected to be
Emily- still wary about
Stu- wow I love him
Ethan- (unknown in the first book) CUTEST
Rym- I loved him from the start and still do
Vitrad- ew go away don't touch my baby aka Lir

So overall I loved this book. There were so many twists and turns and so many characters and situations were not what I expected but in the end I feel as though it all fit so well and was executed amazingly. Although THERESA PLEASE CONSIDER NOT KILLING THAT PARTICULAR PERSON YOU KNOW THAT ONE THAT I KNOW WHOSE DEATH IS GOING TO CAUSE PAIN TO EVERYONE INCLUDING ME WHEN READING THE NEXT BOOK so yeah maybe you could edit that out of the final book yeah thanks (!; Lastly, thank you Theresa for not as bad of a cliffhanger as B.S.

I can't wait till this comes out so you all can read it ahh!

I. Love. This. Series!!!!! I didn't know how much I missed it until I picked this one up. I almost read it all in one sitting! The only reason I didn't was because I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore from all the crying. Yes, this book broke my heart. I was JUST getting over a slump but Theresa made sure that I was back in one with her story.
Her characters are amazing and their character developments are off the charts!! This book is nothing short of intense and I had a bad feeling in my stomach throughout the entire thing. I was too scared of for the characters I loved and I hated seeing them in such distress. I will never forgive Theresa for what she did to one of them but I know it was crucial to the plot line. I gave up my heart but it's okay, I just wish the next book would be released tomorrow!!
As much as I loved most characters, I DESPISED two in particular: Jastren and Dane. Those two... ugh. I am glad to not live in a world where those two are real.
Time flew for me while reading this. The world is so fantastic that I forgot I was reading about a fictional world. As soon as I opened the page, I was transported into the world and I seized to exist in the real world. I love it when an author succeeds in doing that and I am honored to have stumbled upon Theresa.
OH!!!! And we also get Lir's POV which is always amazing. That man is a perfect specimen and he needs to be real.
If you don't know anything about this series: aliens. That is all you need to know. I strongly suggest you pick this series up if you haven't already. I am seriously dying here. I need Shattered Stars in my hands like yesterday!! This plot is so corrupted (betrayal everywhere!) and complex that I NEED to know how further Theresa will take it. This is definitely a favorite series of mine and I need more!

This was a fantastic follow-up to Broken Skies, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Jax and Lir have been separated and their connection is broken at the start of this novel. Jax is confused over her feelings for him and feels totally betrayed. But she can't get him out of her head. When Rym appears, requesting to take her to him, she goes without question. When she uncovers the truth, she feels bad for ever doubting him. Everything he has done has been done to protect her.

Being in Jax' head is difficult at times. She is dealing with a lot and her gifts are manifesting in non-transparent ways, so she's hugely confused, and struggling. At times, I felt it was a little overdone and could have been toned down.

Not a huge amount happens in the first third of the book and I did find myself skimming parts, however, it picked up pace then and it was choc-a-block full of action, revelations, twists and turns from that point on.

Trust issues play a huge part again in this plot. I felt for Jax. It was challenging trying to identify who was genuine and who was a snake in the grass. I love books that weave intrigue and suspicion so expertly into the plot and Theresa delivered in spades here.

I was always naturally wary of Jastren so that plot twist didn't hugely surprise me. But that shocker at the end. Holy Moly. That blew me away. I came close to crying as I loved his character (being vague on purpose)

Jax and Lir are separated for much of this book so the romance is a little light. Not a happy bunny. I hope we get more in the next one and I'm so looking forward to seeing where Theresa takes the hybrid-alien-human plot in Book 3.

All in all, another great read from Ms. Kay and I look forward to continuing this series.

Thank you to author Theresa Kay for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

Fractured Suns is the stellar sequel to Theresa Kay’s debut novel Broken Skies and is another fast paced, exciting and deeply addictive story. Highly emotional, entrancing and simply brilliant, Fractured Suns is impossible to put down!

After finding myself deeply impressed by Broken Skies, I was so excited to dive headfirst into Fractured Suns and I’m glad to say it doesn’t disappoint. Fractured Suns is pretty much as good as the first novel, if not better, and featured all the danger, adrenaline pumping excitement and romance I fell in love with the first time round.

Fractured Suns once more follows Jasmine “Jax” Mitchell, a haflbreed who has been to hell and back after the events of the last book. After rescuing her twin brother from the E’rikon, falling in love and bonding with Lir, losing Lir to his uncle and managing to escape the earths alien city with only just their lives, Jax has been hiding out in a cabin alongside her brother, Peter, Flint and her newly discovered grandfather. However when Lir’s cousin comes to take Jax to see him, the last thing she expects is to find herself in the middle of even more shocking dealings and discoveries that will change the way she feels, loves and sees the world forever. There’s war on the horizon and Jax isn’t sure which side she should be on……

My goodness, Fractured Suns was a really emotional novel to read, especially towards the end. I’m going to try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but I’m really emotionally drained after reading this incredible novel. Wonderfully written, Fractured Suns was fast paced, exciting and as driven as the first book. Theresa Kay really knows how to capture her audience and continues to develop her storyline and world sensationally from the opening chapter!

I’m so incredibly in love with both Jax and Lir as characters. The incredible way Theresa Kay has written them simply blows me away. Jax to begin with is so incredibly complex. She’s a blend of fierce determination and strength and complete fragility. She’s traumatized and flawed and almost broken at times, but you can’t help but adore her. Kaye puts her through so many traumatic moments and forces Jax to ensure a lot of pain and loss, but she just keeps getting up and fighting. Honestly, Jax is just one of those honest to goodness well rounded, likable and awesome heroines!

With the first book told entirely through Jax’s eyes, it will no doubt thrill readers to learn that Theresa Kay writes Fractured Suns through both Jax and Lir’s POV’s. That’s right---we get to follow Lir in this instalment as well; something that helps enhance the reading experience with our young lovers separated and on different sides of the divide. Again, I love Lir pretty much as much as I love Jax and think he’s a terrific character. Plus, being able to see what he was going through while he and Jax are separated during the story allowed me as the reader to see what was going on on both sides, and not miss out on seeing Lir in the story, which is often the case when characters are separated the way they are in Fractured Souls yet the novel is told in only a single POV.

As individuals they are wonderful, but as a couple, and as a whole, Jax and Lir really are on a whole new level. I love the way Theresa Kay developed their relationship in the first novel and the way she continues to sustain it, whilst also adding in conflicts that push them and force them to fight for what they have. Theirs will never be an easy relationship and plenty of outside forces have the potential to be a threat, but I honestly hope Jax and Lir managed to keep the intensity, passion and love they share. I’ll never tire of seeing them together and I have no doubt I’m always going to be as invested in their relationship as I am now. Jax and Lir are so beautiful and endearing and bring out so much good in the other it’s impossible not to support them one hundred percent.

From beginning to end, Fractured Suns was a sensational read. I soared, broke and then soared again. Thrilling all the way to its end, Fractured Suns see Jax experience a heartbreaking loss, even as she makes some shocking discoveries and finds someone she never thought she’d see again.

Wonderfully written, paced and detailed, Fractured Suns is a worthy sequel and leaves me dying to get my hands on the next novel. I highly recommend this for fans of the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout or anyone who is looking for a good alien romance with the perfect hint of dystopian and sci-fi thrown in!

Wow, just wow. Wow! I had been looking forward to reading Fractured Suns since finishing Broken Skies back in April. I was thrilled to receive an ARC so that I could read it early.

I had really high hopes for this book based off of where Broken Skies ended.

I was NOT disappointed.

**Minor spoilers ahead for those of you who haven't read Broken Skies. I have tried to not reveal anything that wasn't already said in the synopsis.**

Fractured Suns picks up shortly after Broken Skies with Jax and Lir apart, separated by both distance and emotions. Although the book primarily focuses on what's happening through Jax's eyes, I was thrilled to see some chapters told from Lir's POV. It allowed for a fuller picture of what was going on around the main characters and to see just how interconnected the goings on within the city where Lir was, Peter's house, and where Jax is force to go back to are.

Speaking of that place, what a great plot point to have Jax need to go back to her former town. It was great to see those characters again, I really like Emily, and when you find out the previously unknown facets of the town and its residents, watch out, you are in for a wild but great ride.

The characters continue to be a strength of this series. Jax and Lir remain their awesome selves in the face of some really major obstacles. It was nice to see more of Flint and Lir's cousin Rym. I loved the few new additions to the cast, especially Ethan, and a minor character who I did not see coming due to this character's brief roles in Book 1. In addition, Kay handles Jace's character transformation wonderfully (including how she writes the cause of it) and gives Jastren such a creep factor that works well with his role in this book. There is also a surprise character who I am not going to spoil here, but I cannot wait to see how this character influences things going forward.

The plot moves at a fantastic clip, a mix of action and revelations that had me reading this book with every spare minute I had. There were many twists and turns that I did not see coming, and I give credit to Kay for surprising me as often as she did. That's not to say that all of these surprises were good. When she sent out the ARC, she wrote that she hoped readers wouldn't hate her by the end. I certainly don't hate her, but in reference to that part, Theresa, you broke my heart! Reader be warned, you might cry when you get there, but know that the whole scene was masterfully written, and as much as I didn't want to see it happen, I think it was necessary to ignite the other elements that subsequently occur, both in the remaining pages of the book and in Book 3 when it comes out.

Fractured Suns is an amazing book. Being the second in a series, it does not suffer from the sophomore slump at all. I find it rare for a Book 2 to be better than a Book 1, but Fractured Suns surpasses Broken Skies and has vaulted itself into one of my favorite reads this year.

MY THOUGHTS
This book takes place shortly after the events of the last book. Jax is still reeling from Lir's possible betrayal and coming into terms with her new abilities. With foreboding news, Jax must travel back to the town she intended to never go back to. At the same time, Lir is back in the city, being tortured by his uncle. But neither know who to trust and secrets will come to light, as well as the start of possible war.

This book definitely doesn't have middle book syndrome! So much happens! My crummy synopsis doesn't give this book justice. This book has event after event, and is definitely action-packed! I'm being extremely vague, mostly because I want you to be surprised, but there are so many twists! My mind was blown! Also, you find out so much more about Jax's abilities and the E'rikon!

I may be remembering wrong, but this book has a dual perspective, which I don't believe was in the last book. A majority of the book was from Jax's perspective, but every once in awhile we got to see from Lir's perspective. This really helped move the story. More stuff happened with Jax, but we really needed to see what was going on with Lir! I still love them both! They're great characters and very well-developed! In fact, all the characters, good and bad, and very well-developed! I also liked how we get to see new characters in this book as well as getting more of an understanding of all of them!

As for romance, there wasn't much. This book may not have middle book syndrome, but it does follow the aspect of most middle books where the couple is separated during the entirety. Not that there's no romance at all, Jax and Lir do see each other occasionally, but it's in the background, which is just the way I like romance.

IN CONCLUSION
I loved Broken Skies, so I was excited to dive into this one! This is a fantastic sequel! I felt like so much happened and the characters were great! If you're a fan of sci-fi and/or aliens, please read this series! All the while, I will be waiting for the next book!

****I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you****

Fractured Suns is the second book in the Broken Skies Series. It is a sci-fi dystopian romantic series told from the POV of Jax and Lir. I was so excited to hear Lir’s POV. I love my green and gold alien boy!

I have been anxiously been awaiting this book. Broken Skies left me heartbroken as Jax was. This book DID deliver. The story picks up about a few weeks after Broken Skies ended. Jax has been heartbroken over the loss the broken bond with Lir and is with her brother Jace, Flinn, Jastren (her grandfather), and Peter. Lir has been captured by his uncle and has been tortured.

In this book, we see Jax and Lir mostly without each other. They have interactions throughout the storyline. Jax continues to be a strong character throughout this story. Kay did not let up on Jax’s growth and development. Jax tries to find what it means to be half E’irkon. She is noticing things in herself, her brother, and Jastren that are unexplainable. She doesn’t trust Jastren for help.

Lir is trying to deal with being alone all the time; unconnected to anyone and learning to communicate and trust with a kinut. To his surprise, Rym is by his side. Lir is learning on how to be a leader and take down his uncle, who has Stella, his sister. Lir still seems to really know Jax from their interactions and melted my heart with his actions. I could feel their love through my Kindle.

Many of the characters from Broken Skies are back including Rym (I adore his humor), Trel, Emily, and even Stu! We get several new characters. Some are very shocking. There is some major background reveals throughout this story. The complexity of the story was impressive and detailed. This was no “in between” book. This book holds its own. The pacing is on the mark: never to quick or slow to create the right intensity for the story.

The end isn’t exactly a cliffhanger but has a heck of a hangover. I want, no NEED, the next book now. This will be on my must read and re-read list. 5 stars!

First of all, a big thank you to Theresa Kay for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fractured Suns picks up not long after Broken Skies ended. What I love about this book series the most is the relationship between Jax and Lir and also between Jax and Jace. In this second book, Jax is still the fiery redhead we all know and love, and Lir is still the same charming and swoon-worthy guy. Because of the events in the first book, we sadly don't get to see the power couple together as often as I would have liked. But having the duel POV really worked in this book, unlike with most books I've read that had more than one POV.

The relationship between Jax and Jace has always really warmed my heart. My brother and I are extremely close too and always after reading a scene with them I feel the need to call my own brother up and tell him how much I love him. Which, as I always like to say, is the sign of a good book; when it can make you feel real emotions.

Overall this sequel definitely lived up to my expectations and was just as good as the first in my opinion. And just like with Ms Kay's last book, the ending of this has left me anxiously awaiting the next one.

"Members of both species will have to make a choice about what they want the future to be - or if they want one at all."

The sequel to Broken Skies will leave readers breathless and in anticipation for Shattered Stars the moment they finish reading. So many things happen to each character within the pages of Fractured Suns.

The long wait for this sequel was worth every second and more! This sequel does NOT disappoint in any way. I never expected it to take me where it did.

"Bond or no bond, she is my future and I will not let her go again."

The twists held within the pages of this book will pull on any reader's heartstrings and leave then gaping open-mouthed wondering why. Be prepared to not want to put this book down once you start.

I received an electronic copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own and I loved this story so much that I have already ordered a paperback copy that I will cherish dearly.

*3.5 stars* I was sent this by the author for review (thank you so much!) but as always this review is my honest opinion :-)

I can't decide if I should round down or up for this one, but I usually always round down just for fairness so I decided to stick to tradition! So, even though I think I liked the first book better, this one was still really enjoyable, I just think it suffered a little bit from "second book syndrome" and having some filler moments. This series gets crazier and crazier, and this book definitely had some things in it that I didn't see coming especially at the end!

Plot-
I do think I liked the plot of the first book more, but this one definitely was more enlightening in the world building, and had a lot more "plot twist" moments. There were some things that I did predict, but then there were some things that happened that took me completely off guard, and Theresa Kay is definitely not afraid to pull some punches in this series, which I appreciate. One thing I really like about this series is how it doesn't feel like a copy of any other series, and since "aliens vs. humans" is a topic that can easily get cliche and boring, she makes it seem unique and entertaining. This series doesn't have the most complex plot, with intricate explanations of alien customs and what not, but I think that's okay because what we do get feels like enough for what it is, and still manages to be very entertaining. This book did suffer from middle-book syndrome at times though, and just didn't hook me as much as the first one did, especially a chunk in the middle that just dragged for me, and felt like filler. I think the things that happened were necessary, but you could tell it was set-up for the events at the ending. The ending was the best part of the book for me, it was really exciting and I think it set up the last book very well. Also just a warning it does follow the path of a relationship in a trilogy that we've seen before where the couple is separated for a lot of the second book.

Writing-
I don't have much to say about the writing for this series. It's one of those where I don't really notice the writing, for better or for worse, which isn't necessarily a negative, it just wasn't anything that particularly piqued my interest. One thing that I saw in this book, and the first book, is how the aliens of the series have more of a formal way of speaking, which I think is a really good thing. It makes it seem much more realistic, because since these aliens don't have English as their first language, it makes sense that they wouldn't sound exactly like a native speaker, and would have a more "proper" way of speaking.

Characters-
I'm not sure what to really say as an intro to this section, so I'll just jump right into it. Our main character Jax, she was pretty frustrating in this novel, not gonna lie. Even though at the end we do get an explanation for why she was being difficult (which I predicted), it was just frustrating in the moment, when she was making certain decisions, or having certain doubts. I still think she's overall a pretty kickass character who's been through a lot, and because of that is having some really interesting character development, and by the end I was definitely on her side again. I don't want to say specifically what her "interesting character development" is, because it can be spoilery, but I'm really curious to see how this progresses in the final book in the series. As always, I really like Lir, and it was fun to have his POV in this book, which I think was a really good choice on Kay's part. I think Lir is a great balance to Jax, and I love how loyal and supportive he is. I really enjoyed learning more about Rym, and I love him, definitely one of my new favorites in this series. He's the jokester of the series, which is to be expected but I love him all the same, and I can't wait to see more of his character. Also Stu! I love when we get unexpected allies later in a series! Still hate Jace though, I don't know if he'll ever be able to be redeemed for me.

Overall-
This was an entertaining read, but I could tell it was a "middle of a series/trilogy" book. Some parts of it felt like filler, or just plot set up for the last book, but the ending was really exciting and I can tell the plot of the last one is going to be crazy. I also really liked meeting some new characters in this book. This is a really fun and entertaining series that I think a lot of people would love! As I've said, this isn't the best series I've ever read, I won't make such a lofty claim as that, but it's definitely worth your time, and I think it's a really good take on aliens in YA.

Recommend?-
Definitely, if you like young adult sci-fi, then this is a really fast-paced and enjoyable series that I think has a lot of elements that people would enjoy!

3.5 / 5 Fangs

I was so excited to start reading this book. I was completely obsessed with the first book in this series, Broken Skies , and I raved about the book to everyone. When I got my hands on this book, I dove right into it. I was happy that this book started right where the first book left off, which I was very thankful for.

I was actually kind of disappointed with this book. One of the most disappointing things about this book was the plot. I liked the very beginning of this book and the very ending of this book. I just felt like the rest of the book was slow moving and it made it seem like this book was just a filler book. The worst part of the book was that it had one of the most annoying troupes in it. The main couple was separated in this book, and it was so annoying. I was missing the awesome romance that I adored from book one. When they had their moments together, it was wonderful. I wanted more of that in this book! I would have been okay with the separation if Lir and Jax would have been in contact more. That plot line was just really frustrating for me to read.

I did enjoy learning more about the world and the aliens, but I did not think it needed to take up as much of the book as it did. The ending was really fast paced, and I loved the plot twists Theresa threw in the book. I would like to point out that this book made me sob near the end, and I am still not over that plot point. I could sense it coming, but I was still not happy. I can feel the ugly tears coming again.

I was very happy that Lir was just as lovable in this book as he was in the first book. Even though he was separated from Jax, we still got chapters from his POV, which made me so happy. Lir was loyal and supportive to everyone in this book. I absolutely adored him in this book. He was the reason why I was able to get through the parts of the book that were slow moving. I also enjoyed getting to see more of his cousin, Rym. I thought he was a great character and I cannot wait to see more of him in the future.

Jax and Jace were the must frustrating characters in this book. At the end of the book there was an explanation for it, but it still annoyed me through out the book. They both did dumb things, acted like jerks, and kept unnecessary secrets. I was beyond annoyed with both of them in this book. I was happy with the revelation at the end, and I am excited to see Jax return to her former glory.

Overall, I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I felt like this book was a filler book. It was missing the magic of the first book. However, the ending was really intense, and now I am super excited to read the next book. Even though I didn't love this book, I am definitely continuing this series. I am extremely invested in these characters, and I need to know what will happen to them in the next book. The ending of this book left me craving the next book because it was just so fantastic. I feel like Theresa will knock the next book out of the park.

Theresa has delivered a book that is remarkable! I'll be honest and tell you that Sci-fi was never my thing until I read her writing - Theresa is the one that changed my mind about all things aliens; or might I say all things Lir! This book was astounding. It has the perfect pacing, creative and imaginative ideas, and allows the reader to delve deeper into the characters they love. True to her reputation there are plenty of shockers a la Theresa Kay! The truth is that I loved every line of it and simply could NOT put it down.

The bottom line for me is that there is no way you will not be disappointed in this book! Waiting for book 3 is going to be a killer!!!
