Gah, I just don't know what to do with all of my emotions. This series just keeps getting better and better, and if you don't believe me, look at all the shelf-tags... There aren't many stories that can pull off being both epic and humorous, dark and doofy. And I love love love the characters (remember that saying about the "rule of three?" - that applies here).

Seriously, if you haven't looked into this series, you should. There is something for everyone, from epic battles, dramatic confrontations, goofy moments between close friends, awwwww&awe inspiring moments, deep & emotional character growth... Yeah, I could go on, but I won't. The first two volumes have been officially released in North America. Check them out.

I don't think I have laughed as much as I have in this one volume because there were SO many humorous and very feel-good moments! Not only that, but I can honestly say that if it took me 10 volumes to truly get into Yona, it took me 20 volumes for me really to love these characters/series and will be sad when I catch up and there are no more volumes to read ASAP. Maybe that should be like "well, yeah, hopefully you love it since you've read this many volumes!" LOL! But I don't know, I just felt I had my "moment" in this volume where I genuinely just love the story. I'm not sure how else to put it into words except that this was another excellent volume in the series that I throughly enjoyed.

Now what's "funny" is that this volume isn't exactly humorous. Our old men shine once again and we see quite a bit of battle with Hak and some of the dragons being key players (but the old men *heart eyes*). However, that ultimate moment where I looked at the pages least three times because it gave me goosebumps is that scene with Hak and Su-won. And then Yona seeing it too. *stares into space* Are there even words to capture that moment, those panels that reflect the power and impact of that moment? The things that COULD have happened are definitely not lost on Yona, and they weren't on me either.

But Ju-do. Oh, Ju-do. I love his character, but man, why did he say something! And why is Zeno acting so friendly with Su-won?? I feel he wants to tell him something, but I don't know what it is. Granted, Zeno DOES ask him something, but I still feel there is something more even if I don't know what it is.

Let me backup though! That moment in the beginning between Yona and Jaeha was VERY touching. While I'm nervous that Jaeha does indeed have feelings for Yona, there was a bond that was so much more than any kind of potential romantic feeling. I felt every word and expression in those panels. (Though goodness, Zeno. *nervous laughter* It is indeed nerve-wracking when he gets to the point where he wants to be able to fight back and what he has to do to get there…)

Riri is incredible! Pretty sure that was already established before this point, but she SHINED on page. I know I use that word a lot, but I was struck speechless by the moments she has in this one (which of course left me more speechless with the scene that followed afterwards).

That ending chapter was WHOA! I can officially say I really am on the Yona and Hak ship and MUST see more! It was beautiful and touching and really proud of Yona for speaking up even though it led to a funny situation. I thought I had my moment of being on the ship a few volumes ago, but no, this chapter was it. I'm going to have to refrain from looking at Yona and Hak pins since I have a strong suspicion I'm going to want to buy a few! LOL!

Really really great volume!

Also, Hak hugs are the best and seeing Jung-Gi loose his composure for the briefest of moments was something I loved.

Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Suwon who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.

Yona of the Dawn vol 21 delivers on Hak and Yona’s separation. We get cute moments with Jaeha and Yona, Hak and Zeno, Hak and Yona. It’s a major reason I loved this volume! Particularly we see Hak’s walls come down when in concerns his feelings for Yona. He actually admits certain feelings toward her... Not something he’s been willing to do up til now.

We also have Hak reunite with his family and it’s a funny and heartfelt thing! He makes a big admission to his foster dad that is pretty huge. I love that there was a sort of meeting of the parents here too. The implication being that Yona and Hak are taking things to the next level.

To me the political plot takes a bit of a back seat. Though we do deal with Riri’s execution in a rather spectacular fashion. That it’s a joint Suwon and Hak moment is pretty intense. We also have general Judo going off about Hak. I loved how Suwon handled this. There is still a big, fat white elephant in the room... and I have no idea how that will be resolved.

Yona of the Dawn vol 21 continues to impress me with its political story woven together with its friendship and extremely slow burn romance. Hak is slowly but surely transforming just as Princess Yona turned from a spoiled brat to a nation’s leader. But what about Suwon?!

Sooooo much emotional heavy lifting happens in this volume while also suddenly changing the landscape of the Yona & Co Hiding Out While Saving Kohka storyline and it’s so good. It’s just so damn good. I teared up multiple times, and mostly because of HUGS.

The Yona & Hak chapter here was lovely, the depths of their love for one another keeps being explored without either of them realizing the other’s feelings.

Also, the more we see of Suwon, the more emotionally and politically complex the story gets. I’m never gonna stop crying about how Suwon destroyed his best friends for a reason that makes more and more sense as we learn more. It gives the trio’s complicated feelings for each other and their past so much weight.

THIS SERIES IS JUST SO GOOD

Okay. SO. 😮😬😱 This one was SUPER intense with the battle at the fort, rescuing Riri and Yona, ALL the Hak and Su-Won drama, and I. LOVED. IT. ALL. I seriously couldn’t stop reading because I was just glued to the pages which is also why I finished it in a day even though I hadn’t meant too. Oops. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Also one part of Zeno and Jaeha’s conversation had me dying with laughter which I will sum up like this:
Zeno: I tried to gouge my eyes out once! It didn’t work though. What a bummer.
Jaeha: ….
Jaeha: I seriously have no answer for this.

And the scene at the end with Hak and Yona…!!! *clutches heart* *squeals like the eternal fangirl I am* SO emotional and sweet and heartfelt, and, and, and I just CAN’T with these two, they are so precious and cute and I just can’t stand it! 🥰😍🥰😍

And the bonus chapter is a RIOT!!!! Oh my goodness, it is so funny, so make sure you don’t skip it! Yun forever!

So excited for their next adventure!

Content: violence and blood (nothing over PG-13), someone nearly dies by hanging but is rescued, characters drink alcohol in a drinking contest and one has an implied hangover the next day

“No matter how many times I am betrayed, I will never stop trusting you.”

That was quite the epic climax for this arc.

While the body of the volume was mostly fighting, it was quite fun to watch, especially with all the different combinations we got this time around.

I was not expecting Han-dae and Tae-woo to be such good fighters but it was really cool seeing them fight together. The title, Little Hak really does suit Tae-woo really well.

Lili's journey has been nothing short of inspirational and amazing and I loved seeing her in all her splendor, prideful and powerful with that blazing heart of hers.

The little bit of comfort at the end might just be some of my favorites so far; yet again, I think the same of every new lovely scene between Yona and Hak.

“I was just entranced. Hak, Soo-won. If you two were allies, I wonder how much you both could have accomplished together? Why, why did we turn out like this?”

Su-won continues to be the character I'm most conflicted about. How does he feel about Yona and Hak? What does seeing how the Wind Tribe feels about them do? What will meeting the dragons do to his plans?

Can Su-won and Yona exist together? And do I want them to?

That moment of shock and sadness after Hak and Soo-won just *click* for a moment and manage to save Lili really got me like, wow Kusanagi-senpai, way to play with my heart there.

Another intense chapter! Su-Won adds so much complexity to the story both in terms of character, relationships, and politics. He's antagonist that is written really, really well. I was on the edge of my seat reading this and couldn't put it down!

I honestly didn't expect to love this series as much as I do when I first started it, but it's so good!!

Hak was so cute this volume!! Giving hugs to the dragons, his romance with Yona, and other things that I guess would be spoilers. But I loved him a lot this volume. I also love that Yun is the youngest of the bunch and getting called mom by all the dragons, Hak, and Yona. It's the best. I absolutely love the bonus stories at the end of the volumes too.

The last volume’s tension gets 80% wrapped up with some bloody incidents. The drama is for real between two guys. Oh boy. Can’t wait to get that resolved. There’s some super sweet moments, too, as usual. The bonus story was also fairly sweet too.
