This was another cute historical romance featuring Minerva Templeton in her quest to complete the task their Grandfather set for her. It was obvious this time what the task was about but Minerva needed it so badly. After childhood trauma that was never dealt with likely due to time period and no one capable to help her, she willingly shut herself away. This trip to Scotland allowed her to step out of her comfort zone and find her courage. I liked her more than her sister Angel. She was wise beyond her years due to observing life rather than participating in it. So she saw beyond the surface when she met Lachlan who was sort of pretending to be a framer rather than a wealthy landowner that he was. I liked them as a couple as well as the fact that it was Minerva that went after Lachlan in the end. It was a nice change to see a woman go after the man she loved without sitting and waiting for the said man to make up his mind and propose. I liked this novella.

Minerva was kidnapped when she was 8 years old. She was held for ranson for 3 days now 15 years later she must complete a task her deceased grandfather George Lockett has set for her. Minerva must travel to Scotland to retrieve a treasured item her grandfather left there. Minerva is suffering from PTSD and she never leaves London.

Lachland is a very rich and hansome landowner in Scotland. He is caring for one of his farmer tenants farm when Minerva arrives with a very sick maid.

Minerva tells Lachland of her task and he offers to help her get to the cottage. Of course the whole trip is a ruse by her grandfather to brake her fear of traveling. But on her journey she falls in love with Lachlan and she obtains her Courage.

What I didn't like is the abrupt ending. The other two stories in the series have epilogs this one does not.

England and Scotland, 1818. Chapter 1 (RE the inheritance)
was re-hashed in books 2 & 3. Each of 4 Templeton siblings
rec'd a note from Grandfather (upon his death) requiring
completion of a task, to qualify for his/ her inheritance por-
tion. Grandpa's solicitor verified the successful task
completion.

Scotsman Lachlan's late Da was a farmer and produce seller.
Upon his death, Lachlan became head of his birth family, he
worked as a wool merchant, gradually bought properties &
grew wealthy. Folks thought him "new money," but I doubt
people of that era used that term. He met reclusive, bookish
Lady Minerva "Min." Sister of a Marquis, she had a past
traumatic event. I liked Lachlan better than Min.

Lach and Min felt unworthy of each other and ruminated on
this too often. Min's task related to the will, seemed a let-
down. Lachlan & Min needed less angst & more love (not
implying couple needed more sex).

This was the 3rd sibling book in this series. None of them
made an issue of class differences: likely unrealistic.

This was an engaging story about Minerva and her mission set for her by her grandfather. Minerva likes to be in the background, she is also reluctant to travel anywhere and is fearful of strangers. For Minerva to achieve her goal she must conquer her fears, not an easy thing to do, given her background story. Whilst on her travels she meets Lachlan. Lachlan has a troubled background but has succeeded in his business. I loved the relationship between these two and how they were able to help each other. This really was a delightful story and I’m looking forward to reading about the last brother. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Once a Wallflower, Always a Wallflower is book Three in The Inheritance Clause. This is the story of Minerva Templeton and Lachlan Sinclair. I have read the previous books (and Love Them!) but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Each of the Templeton siblings have been giving task to complete to fulfill their grandfather's will. Minerva is to travel to Scotland to retrieve a mysterious something. Minerva is a home body who doesn't trust easily after a traumatic incident when she was younger, so for her this is a worrisome task to complete. Only the way her maid gets sick and they have to take up residence at a farmer's house. Lachlan has taken in the Minerva and her crew and learn of the further trip she has. Lachlan is drawn to Minerva, and goes forward to offer his services to help her fulfill her requirements. This of course leads them to spend time together and build on their feelings.
Loved their story. I am such a fan of Ms. Holt writing, her books are always a great read!

The Templetons, Minerva, Angel, Seth, and Theo are all attending the reading of their grandfather's will. They need the money, but they all must successfully perform a specific task in order to inherit. In books 1 and 2, we read about Angel and Seth, now it's Minerva's turn. I think it's brilliant that all four books happen concurrently, because at least the first three books can be read in any order.

Poor Minerva! After a traumatic experience fifteen years ago, she has been scared of everything. She is existing, not living; the spark has gone out of her. She has willed herself to remain a wallflower, but her task will change all that if she can do it. She is to retrieve a mysterious object in Scotland, where she has never been; and as scared as she is at first, soon the adventurous child resurfaces. She leaves, accompanied by her lady's maid Mary, but along the way, they are forced to stop at a farm. They are greeted by Lachlan Sinclair, whom Minerva at first mistakes for a mere farmer. He is big, she should be afraid, but Lachlan is kindness personified. And so begins the romance Minerva never thought she would ever experience.

Minerva and Lachlan are such adorable characters, and they have great chemistry. ONCE A WALLFLOWER, ALWAYS A WALLFLOWER is a very sweet romance with a little bit of steam. I loved how the romance progressed, it was cute and believable. The writing is lovely, it's pleasant, and so easy to read. There was just a tiny detail that puzzled me because it was inconsistent with the premise for the inheritance. I wondered if it would be addressed at some point, but it wasn't. I love that the books are short and that they are published quickly, so I don't have to wait too long. My favourite book of the series remains Seth's, but I cannot wait for the conclusion with Theo's story!

The four Templeton siblings stand to inherit their grandfather’s fortune but they each have to perform a task
Minerva Templeton has a reputation for being, well, something of a recluse. A wallflower, if you will.
However, due to her grandfather’s demands, all that must change. She must travel to the wilds of Scotland to fetch a mysterious something. Minerva cannot fathom why she should be the one to have to bring home this object but if she does not, their grandfather’s fortune will go to a most undeserving man.
So off she sets to Scotland, after over a week of travel her maid becomes ill & so they ask help from a farmer who turns out to be a wealthy landowner. Lachlan Spencer is a self made man he’s dragged himself up from the gutter & has made a fortune.
Another easy reading, page turning novella that drew me in from the start. A well paced story & delightful characters kept me engrossed for an afternoon as I read it in one sitting. Lachlan & Minerva are delightful & so perfect for each other. They are instantly attracted to each other but as their feelings deepen they also talk to each other & become friends. I loved how Minerva blossomed throughout the book starting as a shrinking violet who feared everything to a confident woman who travelled to seek what she desired. Lachlan whilst not a nobleman was honourable & so caring. I’m now waiting for Theo’s task
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I have so enjoyed the first two books in this series and was looking forward to this one. Of course with Samantha Holt as the author, it was so entertaining I could not turn the pages fast enough! Minerva Templeton has to carry out the demands in her grandfather's will, just as all of her siblings have a specific task to complete. Her's is to travel to a cottage in remote Scotland where her grandfather had spent time as a young man.
This was such a difficult task for her because of her being kidnapped in her childhood. She had really not traveled much or been in society. As she gets to Scotland, difficulties arise when her maid becomes ill and they have to seek shelter. As fate would have it, they went to a farmhouse and met Lachlan Sinclair. Sigh. yes. Sigh.
They both find each other attractive and he offers to escort her on the last part of her journey. Of as they spend time together, the feelings grow. But will Minerva find what she has to bring back to satisfy the will? What could it be?
Another great story that kept me captive until the end. Cannot wait to see what happens to her brother Theo! Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. But trust me you want to read them all!!

I must have been distracted as I was not aware of this release, one I wanted to read as I follow this series.
So here it is about Minerva’s task to fulfill her grandfather’s will.
I do not know if her grandfather was a kind of magician but each of his demands brings love in the life of his grandchildren. Minerva’s obligation was more about letting the past go than doing something. Since a traumatic event as a child, she buried herself in her London’s home, never leaving town and going out only when she felt it was safe.
So going all the way to Scotland is her grandfather’s way to free her from her fears.
Lachlan never expected, when he offered his help to take care of one of his tenant’s farm, to encounter an English lass, one so pretty he can’t comprehend she is still single and what is she doing there. And for being from the Gentry, she is no haughty person and she cares even for those under her station.
During the short time they get to know each other, they came to care for another and conquer their fears or griefs.
It was a sweet and enjoyable story of two peoples a bit lost among their world, needing each other to see what they missed really.
A 4.5 stars rate for this cute novella.

This is romantic, entertaining and enjoyable. It's Minerva's turn to complete her task, and fall in love. These siblings have to do what is written in the will in order to get their inheritance. Every task is different, all have to do with the person needing something to complete their lives. It's a wonderful series and I highly recommend adding it to your TBR list.

Lady Minerva Templeton and her three siblings have been saddled with individualized tasks to complete in order to receive their inheritance from their grandfather and keep it out of the hands of a despicable ex family member. For her task, Minerva must journey to a small cottage in Scotland where her grandfather spent time as a younger man. Since she was kidnapped and held for ransom as a child, Minerva has avoided travel and new experiences at all costs so this task is extremely difficult for her. When she finally makes it to Scotland, her maid falls ill and they must seek shelter in a farmhouse in the middle of the Highlands so she can rest. Lachlan Sinclair is no farmer, but a wealthy landowner and self-made man, and he doesn't quite know what to make of the English lady now under his protection.

Minerva hasn't socialized much but she finds Lachlan extremely attractive and Lachlan notes the same about her. Lachlan admires her courage and offers to come with her as a sort of guide for the final and most treacherous leg of her journey. With her maid still ailing and her footman now ill too, her driver is left behind to tend the sick and Minerva decides to continue the trip with only Lachlan for company. Naturally things continue to heat up between them and romance ensues, even if it can only be temporary.

This was another quick and enjoyable read for this series. Minerva was my favorite sibling, naturally, since I identify so much with her tendency to lose herself in books. Now I'm ready for the next book and a happy ending for the mysterious and brooding Theo.

The family gathered to hear the lawyer’s reading of their grandfather’s Will. The house would go to the grandchildren‘s mother – since grandfather had no sons. She would also receive an annual allowance of money. The grandchildren themselves would inherit the rest of his large fortune -- but only if they fulfilled certain terms and within a period of two months. If they failed at their tasks, the money would go to Mr. Hastings, a beast of a man who dishonored their cousin and ran off with a nursemaid! No one felt he deserved any money at all, which is what compelled each of them to take this seriously!

Minerva had been kidnapped as a child, and consequently she was timid and afraid of everything. She knew she had to overcome this fear that ruled her life. Her letter directly impacted those fears! She must travel to Scotland to collect something that belonged to her grandfather! She could not venture out to the next county – how would she travel far away to Scotland?? Minerva kept a smile frozen on her lips – but she could see that no one there believed this didn’t terrify her.

In the morning she woke in a strange inn, afraid to open her eyes. She took a deep breath, and saw the sunlight coming through the window. She relaxed and smiled, knowing how proud her family would be that she had made it this far. She met other people and they were courteous and friendly, not what she had always feared. Her grandfather had wanted her to summon the courage to live a proper life. He was right, and she was starting to understand. As her maid helped her dress, she noticed Mary was sweating and held her stomach briefly. Was she ill? As they continued their travel, Mary was not doing well. Minerva asked the driver to stop at a farmhouse since they would not make it to the inn for some time and Mary needed rest now.

Lachlan Sinclair was annoyed at the knocking on his door. But when he told him of the problem, he carried Mary inside. He asked the groom to take one of his horses and get the doctor. He tended his stock and returned to make a meal for them. Minerva felt very comfortable in the farmhouse. She also felt comfortable around Lachlan. There was a stillness about him that put her at ease. Yet his eyes took in everything that was happening; he would be a fine protector, she knew. She helped him dry the dinner bowls. As one slipped from her hands, they both caught it, his hands covering hers. She was breathless and had never felt like this. She was very much aware of him! When she asked, he told her he was not actually a farmer. He owned all of the surrounding lands and, while his tenant’s family was travelling, he had offered to take care of the farm and animals. But he seemed very comfortable no matter what he did. Although he missed the luxurious fabrics of his finer clothes, he did not miss wearing the cravat and breeches every day, nor did he miss being surrounded by servants.

Mary was recovering, but still weak. Lachlan told Minerva what he had thought of – that Mr. Johnson could take his place working the farm and caring for Mary. Lachlan would go with Minerva since the rest of the trip was by horseback and he thoroughly knew the area. She gladly accepted! But as they were getting ready, Mr. Johnson told her Mr. Young was now ill. He offered caring for them both – and she should go with Lachlan and complete her task. He said he knew how honorable she was, and what her family didn’t know would not hurt them. How would Lachlan feel about it? Would they safely get to the cottage and retrieve her grandfather’s item? Would there be danger to face? Or was the only danger losing her heart over the gentle Scotsman who meant so much to her already?

This is such a wonderful series, and I think this is my absolute favorite! Each has started out full of pre-conceived notions that would be completely turned around as each person grew and matured within the experiences provided to them. It was such a joy seeing how each character handled their challenge. Join in the fun of this wonderful story and see the wisdom of their grandfather in the tasks he set before his grandchildren to put them on the right course in life.

Chemistry and Kindness Make For a Sweet Regency Romance

I will admit that I was at first put off by the heroine, Minerva, in the first scene of the book. I thought she was going to be another one of those silly, fluffy Regency heroines that I'm not fond of. But I was quite wrong, I'm happy to say. Minerva has a shocking backstory and an actually sweet, intellectual nature that just was not portrayed in that early scene.

The story’s action is set in motion by the reading of Minerva's grandfather's will. He doesn’t have any sons to inherit, so he has created an unusual inheritance clause. While his daughter will be taken care of, her children must earn their inheritance by taking on various challenges. A task is chosen for each grandchild that is meant to push or improve them. Minerva, who is a bookish homebody after a severe childhood trauma, is tasked with going to Scotland to retrieve something from a house that her grandfather occasionally lived at when he was young. Each grandchild receives the letter describing their personal challenge, and at least Minerva's was meant to bolster her courage. The grandchildren are especially drawn to fulfill their tasks because if they fail at them, a well-despised uncle will get the money.

Minerva faces many ups and downs on her journey to and through Scotland. She is uncomfortable with strangers, she fears being in a carriage, and she has no idea how to cook! She approaches these tasks and others with a sense of great adventure and a desire to find act courageously. When her maid turns ill, she is forced to accept the hospitality of a man she believes is a simple farmer. It turns out of course, that he is actually a wealthy landowner who was helping one of his tenants. They have a chemistry that sparkles on the page, and they treat each other with kindness and respect. That doesn't always happen in Regency romance, so their sweet little flirtations and attraction were lovely to read.

If you enjoy Regency Romance, this sweet novella with delightful characters may be just a few or a lie.

When Minerva was 8 years old, she was riding in a carriage with only her governess and she was kidnapped. The men held her in a dark room for 3 days and every day they threatened to kill her. Since that time, she has not traveled in a carriage unless it was absolutely necessary. She is afraid of strangers. In short, since that time, she has let life leave her behind.

Now she is an adult and she has been given a huge challenge. Her Grandfather has died. He loved Minerva very much. In order for her to inherit, she must travel to Scotland and collect an item in a cabin he knew when he was a child. Then she must bring that certain item back to London and prove to his attorney that she carried out her task.

On the way, Minerva’s maid becomes very ill. They stop at a farm house in order to get Mary a bed in which to rest, and to find out where they can find a doctor.

Lachlan, the farmer who is working at the farm, allows Mary to rest in a bed, the coachman to have a place for the carriage and the horses and he gives a horse to the footman in order that he might go and get a doctor. All that leaves Lady Minerva to care for Mary and wait for the doctor to arrive.

Lachlan is just exactly what Minerva needs. He admires her and tells her so. He shares his courage.

Minerva provides Lachlan with some thoughts that he needs as well. She helps him to see that he can get past the history of his childhood.

These two are perfect for one another. I liked both of them very much. She is lovely and he is heroic.

This is a very quick read which is perfect for any reader looking for a story about people who are good and kind.

Ms Holt is a new author for me. I look forward to reading more of her stories.

An entertaining series in which four siblings discover that their beloved Grandfather is far more devious than they could have anticipated. Leaving his grandchildren an inheritance with a proviso throws the four Templeton siblings into disarray when they discover the tasks their Grandfather has set before them. In targeting their weakest spot, it shows just how in tune he was with his grandchildren, and ultimately the outcome proves just how perceptive he was.

After a horrific childhood experience, Lady Minerva is appalled when she opens her letter from her Grandfather requiring her to return to Scotland and retrieve an article from the cottage where he spent time as a child. Even her mother and siblings are horrified by the task set before her. As it turns out, the journey is far from plain sailing and when disaster strikes, she has no choice but to rely on the surly farmer Lachlan Sinclair. Lachlan did not expect visitors whilst mucking out his tenant farmer's pigsty, but when the sweet young woman begs his help, he has no choice but to assist her party. From opposite sides of the great social divide, Minerva nevertheless recognizes in Lachlan a man of strength and character. It quickly becomes obvious that she will not able to complete her quest without Lachlan's intervention and once she reaches her goal, it is almost an anticlimax, as it becomes obvious that her Grandfather's sole aim was for her to confront her fears. Returning to her home and the society she is familiar with is no longer appealing, and after she has ensured that her Grandfather's attorney has the proof of her journey in his hands, Minerva goes after the most important person in her life.

The third story in the Templeton inheritance series is about Minerva, the older sister. Min was kidnapped for ransom as a child and still suffers fear and nightmares. Her task is to travel to an old cottage in a rather isolated area in Scotland and retrieve something her Grandpapa writes is valuable. When her maid becomes ill during the trip, she and her companions find shelter with Lachlan Sinclair, a large gruff Scot whom she thinks is the farmer (he is, but a wealthy one just helping one of his tenants). Lachlan turns out to be quite congenial and helpful. He even agrees to go with Min to complete her journey so that her companions can continue to convalesce. Will they be able to finish the trip and find the valuable object before the deadline?

Once a Wallflower, Always a Wallflower is a wonderful addition to this series. It is well-written and perfectly paced story that presents Min with a big challenge filled with a little danger, a lot of humor, a wealth of new experiences (which is probably what Grandpapa had in mind), and romance. The characters in this one are perfect for each other. Min starts out anxious and frightened, but becomes more confident with each experience along the way. Lachlan was strong and kind, but had some uncertainties of his own. He is the man who got everything he ever wanted, but doesn’t know what to do with it. Maybe he just needs one more thing – Min, and maybe she needs him. I enjoyed this story, and I am enjoying the series. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Theo.

I really had fun reading this 3rd book in the series. Minerva Templeton hasn't socially for years - not since she was 8 yrs. old, kidnapped, help & threatened for 3 days if her father didn't pay ransom amount. She was rescued but still is afraid to go new place, meet new people & still has occasional nightmares. Now, according to her Grandfather's will, she & her siblings must succeed in a task set by him in order to receive their inheritance. They must succeed so they can give money to their brother, the Marquis of Eastbrook, to pay his wife's gambling, even though she is now dead. Minerva's task is to go to Scotland with her maid, groom & driver - get an unknown object from her Grandfather's house. She makes it to Scotland - a feat in itself & then her maid become ill. With no villages anywhere close, she approaches a farmhouse & a handsome Scot answers the door & assists her on bringing her maid in & sends for a doctor who is a day away.

Lachlan Sinclair just happens to be at the farm on his property taking care of the animals for a few days while the farmer visited his daughter. Lachlan had been a farmer & still enjoyed working but he was now a large landowner in Scotland & besides being honorable, funny, kind & handsome he has become quite wealthy.

Lachlan & Minerva have a lot of adventures with Min getting braver all of the time. They were a fun couple & it was a very sweet story in which they both found their purpose & place in life & with each other. I highly recommend this book & the entire series.

Minerva and Lachlan

Minerva and her family are at the reading of her Grandpapa's will. What he tells them has them all stunned. She can't believe her Grandpapa would have such stipulations, and if they were not met, who their inheritance would forfeit to! Well, each of her siblings were given their own letter of instruction and now have only two months to complete them to the satisfaction of the man in front of them. She was going to have to find the courage to complete her task after what happened to her at eight years of age, but she is determined to meet it! She and her ladies maid Mary, along with two very capable men, set out for Scotland right away. Only Mary becomes very ill, and they are forced to stop at a farmhouse only days into their journey. There is where they encounter Lachlan. They take him for the farmer. However, he is much more they will learn. So, who exactly is Lachlan? How will he figure into Minerva's journey? What all happens on her way to finish her task? Will Mary get better? What happens when Mr. Johnson, one of the men she brought with her, also becomes ill? You will enjoy this great story by Samantha Holt and will not want to put it down!

ONCE A WALLFLOWER, ALWAYS A WALLFLOWER is the third book in the Inheritance Clause series. They will need to be read in the order of release.

I think I love Lachlan as much as Minerva does. Who wouldn’t fall in love with the big, brooding, protective, wonderful Scotsman?

Drawn in from the start, I loved how they easily became friends despite her traumatic fears. The message that love will always outweigh any negativity is strong in this story. This is a philosophy that lives strongly in my own life so, of course, I love feeling it here.

When it comes to this book I must say, I couldn’t wait for it to come to my Kindle. Couldn’t wait to read it. Couldn’t leave it alone. I read it one sitting. Now I have to wait again to find out what Theo’s task will be. Sigh!

This is a short story about Minerva. Fifteen years ago, she was abducted for money.  This has scarred Minerva and made her afraid of many things. Her existence has been that -- an existence, not living fully. She's afraid of people, traveling, and unusual situations. Thus, she is sequestered in a tiny world of her home. Grandpa's task is for Minerva to travel to Scotland and recoup an item for her Grandfather.

Along the way to Scotland, Mary, the lady's maid, becomes ill and they must stop at a Scottish farmer's house for aid. Although Lachlan Sinclair is gruff, he is kind to the sickly Mary and the nervous Minerva.

Because Mary takes a long time to recover and another in Minerva's party comes down ill, Minerva and Lachlan continue on Minerva's quest alone. The story was great until this point. Half the book talked about how anxious Minerva was, and how she was still affected by her experience 15-years ago, yet Minerva asks Lachlan to take her to bed. For real?  After about 3 or 4 days in Lachlan's company, Minerva suddenly wants him. I don't think so.  The rest of the story fell apart and was unbelievable. Overall score = G+.

I loved this book! It is truly a delightful historical romance! This is the third book in the Inheritance Clause series but it works perfectly well as a standalone novel. The author has again delivered a wonderful story - this time about two people trying to overcome their pasts. The characters were well developed and engaging. Minerva is a kind, shy, intelligent but fearful woman who hates to be the centre of attention. Lachlan is a brooding, protective, alpha male - a wealthy but self-made man who feels intimidated by high society. Fate forces them together and as their journeys overlap - well - you have to read the story to find out what happens. From describing the lavish countryside of Scotland, to portraying the deep and complicated emotions of Minerva and Lachlan and their developing feelings for each other, the author’s superb writing brings the whole story masterfully to life. Definitely a charming read!

I loved Minerva’s story best of all! This quiet, withdrawn wallflower is afraid of just about everything. Avoiding people, travel and life itself. After the trauma’s of her past, she simply get get past the fears that take over her head. So it comes as a shoc when the task set aside for her by her grandfather is to travel alone to Scotland to retrieve something from a cabin he visited in his younger days. It is a long journey and she faces many obstacles. But it also leads her to Lachlan Sinclair, a self-made man with a big heart. The journey that Minerva embarks on with Lachlan is exciting and wonderful. He understands her better than anyone, and encourages her to embrace her newfound courage and conquer her fears. She also reveals a wise and grown-up nature you wouldn’t expect from one so sheltered. She in turn helps Lachlan to face his own past and become an even better man. These two are truly meant for each other and their HEA ending was simply beautiful. I could well picture them running into each others arms.
