Gamer vs Player

Some girls have a dream guy, but Suzie's ideal boyfriend is totally real. He’s just...virtual.

Suzie doesn't need to see her online gaming buddy to know that he’s her perfect match. The problem lies in reality, AKA high school. Ever since a humiliating photo of her surfaced on the first day of senior year, she hasn't been able to escape the attention of Luke Warner, the hottie player who's apparently made it his mission to annoy her. Now that they're paired together in a programming contest there's no way she can avoid him...or their chemistry. His unexpected kisses might be earth shattering, but he’s so not her type.

Luke's got a secret, and it's one that could change everything between him and his new computer science partner. Suzie thinks he doesn’t know her at all, and she seems convinced that she doesn’t like him. But what if she knew that he was her online BFF? That would change everything. But will sharing his secret bring them together or tear them apart?

I read book 1 of this series the first book was okay but i really wanted to read Suzie story and her love interest Luke.. its been about 6ish (inside the book) weeks since book 1.. this was a fast pace easy very YA okay book.. an okay read to pass the time on a rainy La day lol

I love Luke since book 1 he was funny, charming and a secret nerdy gamer we found this out in this book.. wasnt mean or cruel to anyone really even in this book his teasing to Suzie was cute and bantery, as for Suzie she was shy, abit sassy when she wants..i wish she had more of a backbone like she did when she talked online as her online character to the other bullies.. was glad she had Luke protecting her.. but i wish she stoood up for herself more. Beside that drama Luke has been keeping a secret from his Suzie Q.. and once she finds out ouch.. but glad he never back down..

We also find out who really posted those pictures in the slideshow.. also i think ill pass on Matts book.. i just don't like him not even in book 1.. :/

Low angst, no ow/om drama, no cheating,  secondary charas from book 1, high school drama, no sex, kisses, said he was a player but we never really saw that? And girl a virgin (sad no sex scenes)

Disclaimer: This review MAY contain spoilers.

This is the second book that I have read by this author and it was just as adorable as the first book in this series. Maybe even more so.

This book is pretty much a classic jock falling for the nerd trope, but not in a bad way. I actually really enjoyed the story and the direction that the plot went. I liked that the jock and the nerd were both gamers.

I think that I liked the characters in this book even more than the first book. They were very real and the reader could see their personalities clearly. I felt that there could have been more depth to the characters, but overall they were very likable. Luke was especially adorable. I loved his attitude and his snark. I liked being able to see the other characters from the first book in the series as well.

There was an underlying theme of trust throughout this book. We see it from more than one angle. There is also a theme of hiding behind a mask for people instead of showing your true colors. I liked the character growth by the end of the book in these areas.

I did feel like this book was way too short. I think that this is where the lack of character depth comes from as well. It didn't make me enjoy the book any less, but I can't help but think of how much better it could have been with a little more.

Overall, this was such a cute book. I read this in a single sitting. I couldn't put it down. If you enjoy fluffy high school contemporary romance then I definitely recommend this book. It is very entertaining and shines a light on some good points.

I read the first book in this series, Love at First Fight, and loved it SO MUCH that I immediately went and binged the entire series. So good.

I fell kind of in love with Luke in Love at First Fight. There's something about good-natured teasing that just gets to me (maybe because it reminds me of my husband... haha!) While a lot of the main characters in this series seem to have pretty great lives, Luke clearly has a difficult home life. I like that it doesn't make him mean or an alpha-hole, which seems to be the direction many authors take their troubles heroes. Luke is so cute and charming, and I ADORE the way he tries to get Suzie to rise to the bait and be more like her fiesty online-self.

And then there's Suzie. Ohhhhh, sweet little Suzie. I have a best friend who is tiny and full of rage, so I felt like I could definitely be BFF's with Suzie, haha! She's so insecure but at the same time so highly competent and very confident online while she's playing with her gaming group, and I love that dichotomy in her. It makes her a really interesting character, and someone I'd want to get to know.

I probably connected with this book most out of the entire series, maybe because my husband and I first bonded through playing World of Warcraft and table-top RPGs. ;)

This is the second book in the Geeks Gone Wild series, and while it could technically be read as a stand alone there are major spoilers for the first book, as well as a fair amount of set-up for some of the major drama in this book that's done in the previous book. I highly recommend you read this series in order.

Adorable.
I came across this author by chance, snagged this book (even though I'm aware it is #2 in a series) and I proceeded to get swept away.
I loved the story of Luke and Suzie-Q and how they came to be a couple.
Despite this being book 2 of a series, I didn't feel like I was missing anything by starting at book 2, though I will say, I am going to go back and get caught up with the previous couple now that I have read this one. I'm interested to see how it all begins.
A quick, cute and clean young adult read that in my estimation is safe for all ages.
Looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This is the second book in the series and it had the same vibe as the first one which I really liked
This time we follow Suzie, Magro's friend.. she is a Game player and she has this friend online who she have a major crush on, little did she know that this person is actually Luke, the biggest flirt in the school .. Luke knows that Suzie is his virtual friend, so how can he convince her he is the right guy for her ?
the concept of the story is amazing, but the plot really needed more of a oomph to it .. but I did enjoy it, and I can't wait to read the third and final book

My Virtual Prince Charming was a lot better than the first book, which I was really conflicted about and gave only 2.5 stars. This one was better and I enjoyed it more, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Luke is one of the popular guys at school. At home, however, he is the black sheep. Not the star athlete like his brother, nor as smart as his sister, his father is on his case about college and his future. His escape, for little more than a year now, has been MageLand, an online video game. But, of course, now one knows this.

Suzie is a geek. She loves to play video games and when the creators of her favorite game MageLand organize a competition for high school students, she convinces her computer club teacher to let them participate. And isn't a computer coding club exactly what could make Luke just that bit more academically attractive to universities? Which is how he and Suzie end up working together to win the competition.

But it's not so easy. Luke knows who Suzie is in the game and definitely has a crush on her. Meanwhile, Suzie doesn't trust Luke at all. But she's learning to as her feelings for him grow.

This book was so much more YA romance fiction, so much more enjoyable!  While it sticks with some of the same themes as the first book, namely the geeks vs. the populars, but it's not the main issue in this book. The romance played a bigger role in this book compared to the first book, which I definitely liked. You can see Luke chipping away at Suzie's defenses. I really liked Luke and Suzie.

What I didn't like all that much was Suzie's OTT reaction to Luke telling her the truth. Especially because, when she finally rationalizes it A WEEK LATER, she comes to the conclusion she would have done the same. So, yeah...But again, this was definitely better than the first book and I'd like to add you can totally read this without having read the first book. However, I won't be reading the third book. After Book 1 and 2, I haven't connected to Matt. Not the most likable character in my opinion, and aside from Julia's occasional appearance in book 1, I haven't connected to her either. So, no book 3 for me, but this book was good.

Luke is one of the popular crowd, but he has a nerdy secret. He loves to play the online game called Mageland and loves to partner with someone named Prince Z. At a party, he discovers that Prince Z's identity is actually a girl from his school named Suzie and he can't believe it or get her off his mind.

Suzie is one of the geeks at school, so she becomes very guarded when golden boy Luke starts picking on her. At first, she thinks he's mocking her for the #GeeksGoneWild tag floating around school, but as time goes on, she can't decide if he's actually being serious. It's hard to believe that someone like Luke would ever look her way, but there's something sincere about him. When she finds out he plays Mageland, Suzie becomes more curious about who the real Luke is.

MY VIRTUAL PRINCE CHARMING is a cute contemporary romance that's perfect when you're in the mood for a cheesy book. I like that Suzie didn't fall for Luke immediately. Her distrust of him is very realistic and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Luke is so sweet and didn't seem like a player at all. He also didn't push Suzie and let her take the time she needed to open up to him.

I personally connected with this book because I'm a gamer and some of my closest friends are online. There's a connection between people that develops after playing together for so long. We have nothing to hide and it makes the bonds that are formed that much stronger. I loved that initially, Suzie felt guilty for talking to Luke because of DataG. That was another realistic touch so hats off to Maggie Dallen for this amazing and adorable read.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this book to fans of video games, contemporary romance, and romances between the geeks and the popular crowd.

'My Virtual Prince Charming' by Maggie Dallen brings together Suzie and Luke. Neighbors who have never really thought much of each other, they find themselves thrown together by circumstances that Suzie feels are beyond her control, but are entirely working in Luke's favor. When he realizes that Suzie is one of his gaming buddies online – a fact she is not aware of – he does his best to get to know her, all the while making her feel more and more dislike toward him. She can't figure out why he's all of a sudden so interested in programming, or why her presence seems to make him act in a way that only serves to frustrate her.

Despite the predictability of the scenario in which Suzie and Luke find themselves, with Dallen making it clear that she will obviously eventually find out that her best guy friend in an online game is actually Luke, the chemistry between them and the relationship that unfolds as they get to know each other outside of the game is quite endearing. She sees his growth and comes to see him as more of a friend who isn't just another one of the guys, and he learns more about her and everything he has been missing out on while not being friends with her until this point. Their banter and interest in each other is something that any lover of young adult romance will love. Dallen is great at writing two characters who seem to dislike each other immensely (or at least one dislikes the other) only to find that they are perfect for each other by the end of the novel.

A terrifically worthwhile and fun read, 'My Virtual Prince Charming' is a cute tale in the age of technology. Readers will definitely want to pick up more of Maggie Dallen's books.

Maggie Dallen is the Queen of YA High Scool romance as far as I’m concerned (though to be fair to her, she’s slid pretty darn great in writing other romance tales too). She somehow captures everything I recall from my (sadly long, long ago) high school years in s totally relatable and genuine-feeling way. That’s certainly the case with Suzie and Luke’s story in My Virtual Prince Charming (Geeks Gone Wild Book 2). You see, I was the “beta version” of Suzie, as MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) were not even something imagined back then (outside of sci-fi) but we had RPGs and I was addicted - and yes I did end up dating a cute guy who eventually reluctantly admitted he loved RPGs too (to top things off, in my college gaming club I eventually met the guy I ended up marrying, but that’s a different tale). Reading this book was sort of of a flashback for me as it was so well done - but I can totally guarantee that a reader who loves good YA romance and has no idea what “RPG” is the acronym for will still totally adore this book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

PS, a pro tip: read book 1 before this one. Even though book 2 totally works as a standalone, Suzie and Luke are major supporting characters in book 1 and reading that one first will give you background to this book that will enrich your reading pleasure.

This year our high school had gone from a normal suburban, small-town school to one straight out of a John Hughes movie. You know, the ones where the cliques are all super obvious and forever at war.

I didn’t care what anyone said, no one over the age of twelve could be friends with a girl like Suzie and only want to be friends.
Of course, I was friends with her. But that was different. I’d gotten to know her as a faceless human on the other end of a keyboard, not as a girl. Definitely not as a pretty girl with wild red hair and a feisty little frown. Not an adorably pint-sized girl who looked so sweet and innocent in those oversized T-shirts and cardigans of hers that it made you want to pull her into your arms and keep her safe. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I took note of the impossibly pale lashes, the telltale fair skin that held a hint of a blush even now just because I was watching her read. I catalogued the freckles on her nose and made a mental note of how they spattered her cheekbones and disappeared into her hair. I studied the way her hair was held back neatly and efficiently and let myself envision for one moment what it would feel like if she let me bury my hands in those curls as I kissed the hell out of her.

We’d been so relaxed around each other all week I’d managed to forget that I was about to have my first date with the guy who was also my first kiss.

Luke has two older siblings that Luke describes as star athlete brother and big brain sister and himself as getting along with people and fitting in anywhere. Suzy has a younger brother, star athlete but a jerk and a controlling mother. Suzy just wants to get through Senior Year but it gets complicated since the infamous senior photo and when Luke joins AV club for the Mageland competition after his father made him drop basketball. Suzy likes being a computer geek and out of the spotlight but having Luke hang around with her friends and want to date her means the popular crowd that have teased her through her school years make her a target again and bring her insecurities and poor self image to the surface. Suzy is smart intellectually but emotionally needs help from her friends Margo and Matt to work through that area. Luke hides his emotions with an easy smile to numb the hurt his parents have caused by comparing him to the same standards as his siblings it's like they don't get him at all. Luke is comfortable with Suzy's online Mageland persona where a friendship becomes more but in real life where Luke decides to get to know Suzy better but ends up annoying with his teasing that Suzy takes as mocking.
The Geeks Gone Wild drama continues with the secret about the photo revealed and the popular crowd including Suzy's brother Dale still causing hell for the geeks but the geeks have more supportive and loyal friends and an escape plan into a better future.

This series is just so much fun, I am loving it! Maggie Dallen can pick a trope, find that memory in my heart from high school and let me live it all over again in her humorous and lovable style! This is book 2 of the Geeks Gone Wild series and it gives us Suzie and Luke's story. Now me being a person who is online a lot, I can vouch for having friends, so when Suzie and Luke ended up playing the same video game under pseudonyms, I automatically fell for this story. Now the catch. Luke is a jock, but does have some nerdy tendencies. Suzie is one of the people really effected by the Geeks Gone Wild practical joke. Can these two really find their way to happiness? Dallen has crafted this story of jock falls for nerd in a contemporary setting, and had me laughing out loud at the antics at times. I love the characters, the struggles of finding that comfortable path in high school and fell for this couple. Luke especially intrigued me with his dual interests, since so many times, the jock never lets us know anything deeper than the game. It's fun, flirty, interesting and just a good time listen.

Narrated by Graham Halstead and Lauren Fortgang, we have incredible new adult sounds and a team that really compliments each other. They found that rhythm and made the characters real and believable. Together they have great comedic timing and I enjoyed the listen immensely.

I ABSOLUTELY DEVOURED MY VIRTUAL PRINCE CHARMING!!!

I thought I loved the first book in the series. I did not realize it would be topped by the second book in the series! Maggie Dallen is an amazing story teller, and I love how she writes these books where you can listen to them as a standalone or as a series. You see characters from other books, but I do not feel it is necessary. Anything important from the first book was added in very well.

Suzie and Luke's chemistry is so sweet and off the charts. While I related more to being Margo (from the first book in the series,) Suzie is the girl I wish I was growing up. I love Luke's trope of being the popular guy who has this secret nerd life. I felt they brought out the best of each other.

This is perfect for anyone who loved the movie A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.

I loved that there was a female and male narrator for this story. I feel it adds an extra dimension when listening, plus I find it easier to follow along. Lauren Fortgang always does a great job with her voices and has a beautiful voice to listen to. Graham Halstead is new to me, but also did a fantastic job with voices and his emotions were so real!

I cannot wait for book three!

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Books about gamers are total catnip for me & combine 2 of my biggest obsessions rn, just wish there were more of them. This book is a YA high school rom com and is really light and short. Basically I wished it was longer and there was more of it. Luke is 100% every nerd-girl’s fantasy, the popular, charismatic sports playing golden boy who is SECRETLY also a gamer geek. He meets and falls for Susie online through DM on their favourite online indie game. Honestly, I would really have loved to read more of the gaming world and how they got to know each other and fell for each other while playing, but that is possibly too much geek? Luke accidentally finds out Susie from his high school is the girl he’s been talking to online the whole whole and this book is about how he tries to get to know her irl. He was adorable and sweet. I also liked Susie, she was understandably and realistically suspicious about Luke and how he suddenly started paying attention to her, school nobody turned bullied geek, out of apparently nowhere.

Loved it.

Virtually Perfect. In this continuation of Dallen's new #GeeksGoneWild series, we open up at the very same point the first book does - the Labor Day Weekend party that created the hashtag and all of its subsequent fallout. But then we quickly skip ahead to after the events of the first book, so this book *can* be read standalone, but it does have expected spoilers... and one MAJOR reveal that has been a question for nearly two full books at the time it is revealed here. The story is typical Dallen - light, sweet, and fun, with just enough angst and drama to keep things moving. And while this professional software developer that moonlights as a reviewer and blogger was hoping to see a bit more actual coding, coding generally was presented in a somewhat real world (if amateur - these kids *are* high school students) setting, and that alone makes it different than many books out there. Excellent continuation of the series, and I'm very much looking forward to the conclusion!

Title: My Virtual Prince Charming
Author: Maggie Dallen
Format: Audio
Narrators: Lauren Fortgang, Graham Halstead
Genre: YA Romance
Standalone: Yes but better if you read Love at First Fight first
Part of a Series: Book 2 of the Geeks Gone Wild series
POV: Suzie and Luke
Steam Level: Just kissing
4/5

My Virtual Prince Charming is the second book in the Geeks Gone Wild series. While, technically, you could probably read this book on its own, it would definitely be better if you read Book 1: Love at First Fight first. My Virtual Prince Charming starts after Love at First Fight ends and you don't really see the fallout from the infamous picture. However, you do find out who took it and how it got into the slide show. I enjoy the world and characters that Maggie Dallen creates in this series and I can't wait to read Matt's book!

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Susie and Luke both are into online gaming. They are playing each other using anonymous names. Chatting with each other, telling their innermost secrets and not knowing they go to the same school. Luke found out by accident, that Susie was the person he has been chatting and playing with. He's intrigued by her, and wants to get to know her on a personal level. Susie questions his motives, why is he interested in me? He's a jock, I'm a computer geek! As he gets to know her better, he doesn't know how to tell her that hes the one shes been playing the game with.. Will it harm their friendship? Will she ever trust him again? Will she ever forgive him by not telling her sooner?
Maggie Dallen story is about truth, lies, forgiveness and friendship. Lauren Fortgang, and Graham Halstead narration is good. Full of emotion,
entertaining and fun to listen to. 🎧audiobookobsessionreview🎧

Geeks Gone Wild Book Two.

Suzie is almost a senior. However, just before she begins her final year in high school, her stupid brother dared her to do a keg stand and her own friend entered the photo of that moment into the senior slideshow! Now, Luke is everywhere she turns - taunting her and teasing her to no end. She withdraws from her real life into her video games and the virtual friend who has caught her interest. When Luke realizes Suzie is actually the girl he's been chatting with for months, he doesn't know how to react. This Suzie is witty and spicy, but at school she is shy and nice. He is determined to draw out the online Suzie and show her that they should be together.

If you're looking for a fun high school romance with video games and teen angst, this is the book for you.

Luke has a secret. He much prefers an unknown gamer friend to the shallow people that he often socializes with. However, shallow parties offer an escape from his demanding father, so he still makes the rounds.
Matt and Julia come from different sides of the...cafeteria. She’s head cheerleader and he’s in the AV club.
One night, Luke sees Suzie getting wasted doing a keg stand at a party next-door to the party he is at. His sister once had an issue with alcohol at a party, so he jumped the fence to see if Suzie is in similar trouble. When he follows her to see if she is okay, he finds out a secret that suddenly makes him want to know Suzie better.
This is a sweet story about giving people a chance to prove their motivation is just, and not simply judging the proverbial book by its cover.

This was fun! :) I've wanted to read Suzie and Luke's story ever since meeting them in Love at First Fight.
And, having met some of my closest friends online first, I get how you can feel close to someone you've never met IRL.

Since I am usually more a fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, I liked how the existing online friendship took away the insta-attraction aspect, at least from Luke's side.
From Suzie's side, it still felt a bit insta-y since she didn't know that she'd already developed a crush on Luke's gaming alter ego. But hey, teenage hormones work pretty insta-y, pre-existing crush or not... :D

Now I'm looking forward to read Matt's story (though I'm still tempted to thwack him upside the head, because... seriously?!)!

Fun and sweet with some angst is the next installment in the geeksgonewild series. We start off on the night the hashtag began with our heroes point of view. Suzie and Luke are as different as they come or are they while one is perceived as quite and the other popular there is so much more to them. Luke learns something about Suzie related to a secret he keeps but wants to know more about her without giving it away but what happens when she finds out since she always been the geek and he the popular jock. There is so much to this story which is that it’s ok to be different and that we all don’t have to have it together I don’t want to give away to much you should definitely read it! Can’t wait for the next one.

Very cute, clean teen/YA romance. I noticed less to no swearing in this one, which I really appreciated. This was a cute, fun read about a popular football player (closet gamer) whose online best friend is unknowingly a classmate at his school. When the virtual world meets the real world, sparks fly between them. Can they save their newfound friendship and romance or is it too late?
This story is best read in the order of the series as it’s easier to understand the characters and the backstory. However, it isn’t essential and one could make sense of the storyline if read as a stand-alone. This is the second book in the series and it follows “Love at First Fight” in the #Geeks Gone Wild series by the same author.
A great story and I highly recommend it.

It would be better to start with the first book in the series as the events and characters from Love at First Fight factor heavily into this story as well. It's essentially a continuation of the same story without any cliffhanger endings between the books. It does give some context when the events are mentioned, but you would get a lot more out of this story if you've read the first.

I listened to the Audible version. As with the first book, I liked the dual narrators for the dual points of view. Overall, I liked the story but it the event seemed a little more typical of other high school stories when compared to the first book. (The unexpected response to the bullying was my favorite part of the first book.)

I really enjoyed Luke and Susie. They were fun characters and I found this story highly entertaining. I loved the interactions between Luke and Susie. He loved to tease but not in a mean way. The biggest issue that Susie had was she didn’t know why he was doing it all of a sudden and she didn’t like all of the attention it caused. I loved the way that they built their relationship. Luke was a genuine as could be even though he knew something Susie didn’t. He never tried to use it against her or to get what he wanted from her. He tried to go about it the best way of trying to build that connection in real life again that they had built online. I loved his antics and this was a lighthearted book for me. It was fun and I am excited for the next book in the series.

The overall story and theme was cute, I really liked Luke. I wanted Suzie to be a bit more of herself at school and around people but overall it was cute and I liked how their friendship and relationship bloomed. Fun and quick story. Matt is a rat bastard, immediately had my hackles up in book one with his shady comments and behaviour, I wouldn't have been as nice as Suzie. I dunno if I wanna read his story in book 3, only to see if Margo rips him a new one!

Closet nerd loves closet wit

Suzie and Luke are something of an odd couple, but they're cute together. I'm not sure if I could buy the manslut turned faithful boyfriend because he finally met the right girl storyline, but I set it aside to just enjoy the fairytale. Luke's efforts to win Suzie's trust are so sweet. And I loved the way they ended up working on the coding competition together.

I'm looking forward to Matt and Julia's story in book 3.

Clean romance level: passionate kissing
A few instances of taking the Lord's Name in vain (ie needlessly, not actually talking to or about Him), though at least not doing so with cursing.

Great, clean read for teens and YA’s! Story about the popular guy and the quit shy girl! The author does a great job letting you know that even though teenagers are tagged in a clique, that doesn’t mean that’s who they really are and that they have more layers to their person/personality then that in which is perceived from the people they hang out with. The story also lets you know that’s okay to be different and to be true to who really are and not to go along with others just to be cool.

Book4: OWLS readathon, A contemporary

Okay just a random note, this is the first book I read in a while that starts with the guy's POV.I don't know why I liked that but I liked it.

The story was sweet and adorable. I loved it . It wasn't dragging in any part. It was short and to the point. I loved the easy writing style of the author. I liked how the story flowed and I loved the main couple. Normally, I would say the family wasn't mentioned enough but the story's tone just needed that So I think I'll read other works by the author.
