Lestat is the decadent, corrupt night-dweller with a craving for human blood. Now transformed into a Dark God, he must make a journey into the heart of darkness, where he must confront his own cursed immortality and the emptiness of his soul.
Somewhat scary and creepy. If only I didn't have the mental image of Lestat - which Anne Rice did well - as homosexual, this might actually have had a spot in my favorites shelf.
Lestat's experience as a human again cracked me up a bit. He kept whining on and on about how the human body he inhabited sucked.
I've read this book a couple years back and I've read the first few Vampire Chronicles as well. I remember how much I liked the first three books but then when the rest of the books came, I was dismayed to carry on because of the gay feel of the story. Not that I have anything against gay people.. It's just that my mental image of Lestat was this hot, golden haired, Dark god whom women would gladly scratch each others' eyes out just for a bite from him.
Sadly (for me), it all came crashing down when Lestat hooked up with David.
Anyone who reads Anne Rice knows very well that her books are either totally awesome! Or totally terrible. There doesn't seem to be an in-between with her. Tale of the Body Theif is one of the good ones. Of all the books in the Vampire Chronicles, this one is the most "fun". It's kind of a "Freaky Friday" story, where we get to see Lestat try to cope with "life" back inside a living human body. I enjoyed it.
Ann Rice is another one of my favorite authors, she is very descriptive in her novels. The Tale of The Body Thief was one of the Vampire chronicles that she wrote. I was intrigued by the way she described how Lastat learned how to achieve OBE out of body experience and how he learned to leave one body for the other and his experiences as a human again. The brat Prince , gotta love him.
The Tale of the Body Thief had me laughing and feeling sypathetic towards the normal human condition, all the while so damn curious... and I enjoyed every minute of this crude and awkward book.
i'm glad they skip the sexual assault scene completely.
i miss this version of Lestat and David always...
it really is a shame that the graphic novel adaptations for QOTD and TTOTBT are so much better visually than their predecessors but is not as popular.
——— single issues reviewed (Issues 1-4 of the 12 Issue graphic novel were released in single publications) Issue 1: 4/5 Issue 2: 4/5 Issue 3: 4/5 Issue 4: 4/5
well, i did it - i read all the graphic novels available for the vampire chronicles... i feel totally normal!!! (insane)
what the hell was this though???? lestat is so annoying (compliment)... on another note, i am obsessed with mojo, best character in the book (it's a fluffy dog)
At first the story is not so appealing, but going on it really takes the reader. Of course everything start going better when the body theft happens, and since that moment, even though you know what will happen (the plot is very easy to decode), you will want to read just in order to know how things are accomplished. Here lies the greatness of the writer: in telling you a great story and making you comprehend how everything, in the plot, was very well orchestrated.
I found this book amongst my mother's old highschool books I absolutely loved the story telling the plot development. Also would like to note that all the vampire Chronicles are good you don't need to read all of them or any of them really to be able understand the each separate story.
I will be rereading this one this year. The enveloping story telling of Anne Rice is incomparable and there is none better to inspire the want to know more of history and the treasures it holds.
This was a very well told re telling of the Vampire Chronicle novel of The Body Thief in graphic form. Although a relatively thin volume, it was true to both the gist of Anne Rice's storey and her language in the text of its telling. I found the graphic formal to be less artistic than others I have read, but the storyboarding was consistent making this a good use of the medium to refresh someone already familiar with the novel. I would be hesitant in recommending it to someone not already familiar with the novel or the series; And this format did significantly limit the beautiful gothic romantic impact that Anne Rice's rich writing style can have, while the abundance of pre formed imagery can also reduce the imagination in questioning and exploring some of the philosophic existential themes that this author's work is famous for.
Read this a really long time ago and was intending to re-read it but since hearing of Anne's passing, I've decided not to do that (it just doesn't feel right). There is only one memory I have of reading this book and that is that it's one of the best stories she has ever written bar Interview with the Vampire. If you're going to read any other book by Anne, make sure it's the book version of this (not the graphic novel).
Might have become my favorite installment of the series. Despite the fact that the story follows so few of its previously introduced characters, it is just as encapsulating and horrific despite the lack of age-old vampires actively participating in the plot. Lestat’s and David’s banter, not to mention the whole of their relationship, is just incredibly palpable and genuine, so so human, it is written magnificently.
This started off a little slow, but it really picked up and had me on the edge of my seat until the end. Lestat is so unpredictable and addictive. I finished this book in my office parking lot grinning from ear to ear :) Anne Rice does an amazing job of bringing Lestat to life; she makes you empathize with Lestat as he battles with his natural vampire instincts and the hope for redemption.
In Lestat's progress of exploring the human condition through excess and sensuality he is given the rare opportunity to experience again his human form. A captivating continuation and essential reading leading to the encounter with Memnoch the Devil. Superb.
I read this book in high school and I always loved how the view points switched back and forth, the ending is a very nice twist. Anne is truly a talented author. This is a book I could read over and over and I think I might read again soon.
Cuando ya te has aburrido de la visa inmortal y deseas volver a ser humano, sentir la tibieza de los rayos del sol sobre tu piel, el sabor de un buen vino, el placer del sexo... Que gran relato...
