This is a childhood favorite of mine. I reread it for Christmas this year and I just love the illustrations!! It's just the lyrics from the song, but the illustrations are just so beautiful. They're colorful and vibrant and they tell the story in their own unique way. This little book is a treasure!

I've had this Little Golden Book for way longer than I've had a child to read it to. I encountered it at least ten years ago when I was looking for Christmas books for my house. I loved the illustrations, so I bought it.

Now I do have a child to read/sing it to. And I still love the illustrations. And so does my five-year-old son. And my son really loves it when we add the words "with Molly Kitten" to the end of the song, but that is another story.

I really like the pictures in this version. The two main characters have awesome (impractical, but still awesome) costumes. All of the objects and people mentioned in the song are there to be counted. We have read it many, many times. And sung it. Repeatedly.

Love the lightness of Canadian illustrator, Sheilah Beckett's creative pastel artwork expressions. Cheerful depictions add to the interest of the verse. A keeper and treat saved for sharing with my wee grandsons.

The only thing better than singing this carol is having a gorgeous visual aid to share with your niece while singing it to her. THEN acting out the parts when you reach 12!
