Accidental Witches #3

Death and Divination

Rate this book
Ophelia Perkins faces death’s reapers every day—she never thought she’d fall in love with one of them.

As an oracle, Ophelia divines the future—and sometimes there is no future for the people she fights to keep alive in her job as a paramedic. Those countless lives she’s saved never seem to outweigh the devastation of losing a patient.

One night, one patient she can’t bear to lose, and Ophelia makes a deal with a reaper—save this life, and in return she’ll trade him her own. With the deal struck, Ophelia walks each day with a reaper by her side and waits for the scythe to fall, only to find out this reaper is more than just an agent of death, he's the man she wants as he happily ever after.

Debra lives in a little house in the woods in Maryland with three sons, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members. She has a corporate job during the day, and writes novels at night, after the kids are tucked in bed.

She drives an Excursion affectionately called The Beast, couldn’t carry a tune if you duct taped it to her back, and enjoys an occasional cosmopolitan (heavy on the vodka). On a good day, she jogs and horseback rides, hopefully managing to keep the horse between herself and the ground.

Her only known super power is ‘Identify Roadkill’.

Well... The Dickskins are still being dickskins in the third installment of Debra 's new and fun series, but despite that, this is yet another solid installment.

When tragedy strikes close to home, Ophelia; a paramedic/oracle witch strikes a deal with the mysterious figure who's been haunting her accident scenes for two years: A life in exchange for the one saved. Fully expecting to die, Ophelia instead gains a cute as can be house guest.

Despite his tendency to reap unfortunate plants and lack of success while crashing parties, I found myself liking Nash a great deal;-) Of course, the conversations between the reaper and inhabitants of Accident were amusing as well. Especially the sales pitch at the jewelry store. Add in the disappearance of a soon-to-be werewolf bride, and this was quite the cute story.

Probably my favorite so far.

Another snack gobbled up. Quick, easy, enjoyable swallow. Another involving a Perkins witch in a town called 'Accident'. The story moves away from the past books, though, by having the witch become romantically entangled by someone not-a-demon (though some still seen the critter in that kind of column).

Ophelia works as a paramedic. As such she's constantly fighting to keep her patients alive. Somewhere along the way she has noticed a ghost (maybe a ghost? she's not sure) who keeps turning up when she's treating the most critical patients. One thing leads to another and it turns out that it isn't a ghost, but a reaper, that she keeps seeing out of the corner of her eye.

Being who and what she is, she asks the reaper on a date. Reaper poofs without answering. Mind -the book opened, again, from the male POV - the reaper - and he's kind of drooling over the woman POV. Certain events unfold and the reaper becomes something other than a reaper - and the two date and stuff.

As noted, a quick easy snack of a book (I'm quite hungry now. Stupid me. Constantly mentioning snacks).

A reaper comes a'calling

Better than the second book. This one actually moves the whole story on and has a definite plot. Loved the puzzlement of the reaper and his integration into normal life.
She feels like a Wass compared to the powers of her sisters hers are weak. As an Oracle and a paramedic her magic is not of the offensive type. However for the last couple of years she has been seeing an almost ghost like figure when she attends seriously hurt individuals. It is her younger sister who points out that she is probably seeing a reaper. That's why she panics and offers her life instead of her twins when she is badly hurt and electrocuted. Now she is waiting to die. But it appears that the reaper has paid the price for her and now is mortal although having a dire effect on some plants. A missing werewolf, a dream of blood and golf balls and a showdown. Will she be able to help stop the carnage she foresaw? Will the reaper stay?

Debra Dunbar knows how to entertain

I am such a fan of Debra Dunbar, that I am unable to give a fair review:) she knows how to flesh out her characters in such a way that you feel they live in your town, and as far as a storyline goes, well the pages practically turn on their own.

A fun addition to the series! It’s a quick, enjoyable read that takes you away to an entertaining town of supernaturals for a few hours. If you liked the others in the series you’ll enjoy this one as well. I really liked both the hero and heroine, though I wish that some questions about the hero had been wrapped up. There were a few questions that I had that weren’t answered, which was a bummer, but didn’t really detract from the story as a whole. Overall I really liked it and will be re-reading it, and continuing the series. I’d definitely recommend it!

Unlike most of my reviews for a Debra Dunbar book, I’m not sure how to start this one. Why, because it isn’t up to her standard? Hardly. It’s great. In fact, as is usually the case some other reading got put aside while I read this one almost straight through.

I think maybe it is just a little softer (or something) than the author’s usually books. I know the ending isn’t as “final” as I like but then if you consider the characters, particularly Death (not his real name), and their set up in the book, it could hardly be different. If it seems like I am struggling to write this, you are correct but again, not because it isn’t good. It’s just that I am having trouble writing a suitable review without giving away any of the story. If I wanted to do that, or even throw out hints, then this would be NO PROBLEM! But that isn’t how I review. If you want to learn about the story… buy the book. You will not be sorry.

Bottom line – another hit in what is surely a great series by an awesome author. I can hardly what until the next installment!

I feel like I've misunderstood the presence of some plot and worldbuilding in the first book for an ambition to have a story these books never intended to have ...

I'm now mostly through the third one and I have realized that these are just very simple 'girl pampering' series where women (with issues, but of course perfect in their own way) get their perfect Ken doll lovers, who have 0 personality and literally care about nothing but being the perfect men for their perfect women ... they are so plastic and over-sweetened it gets really disturbing and sickening after a while.
Although the setting did have some potential ...

This third in Debra Dunbar's new Accidental Witches series, is the best one yet. And that's saying a lot. Ophelia is a paramedic and a diviner of the future for the patients she tried to save. When Death started following her she worried. Then when there was a death she couldn't stand, she traded her life for the patient. She expected to die then. but Death just became a part of her life.
There is so much more to this book, but I don't do spoilers, just do yourself a favor and read this series, and it's latest installment.

The Predictably Unpredictable Fun of Dunbar

I love Debra Dunbar, she's got a great gift for coming up with quirky, humorous, stories about characters that are very heartfelt. The Accidental Witches series makes for some light-hearted reading that does have some important issues sprinkled in. All of this makes for a series that surprises, amuses and satisfies the reader looking for a fun read. Dunbar delivers in all of her series, and this one gives me giggles and pure joy in reading for enjoyment.

Ophelia makes a deal with a reaper

Oracle Ophelia sees a guy at her various first responder calls. Upon reflection she realised nobody else has seen him. Her twin Sylvie gets electrocuted, died and Ophelia agreed to take her place. Except that not exactly how things go. This Oracle finds her guy Nash (the former Reaper) and the laughs just keep coming. Werewolves causing trouble yet again. Dallas may have bitten off more than he can handle. Roller coaster ride of excitement and laughs.

Ophelia is such a sweet person. She fights for others' survival and works so hard to protect others. She is in total denial of the mysterious man, Nash. He is obviously a Reaper but she wanted to believe that he was a guardian angel. I think their story is a wonderful example of love. The side story of Dallas and young Tink had a very cool twist at the end and I loved it.

Fantastic Story. Loved It.

Once again Debra Dunbar makes us laugh and fall in love with her incredibly awesome characters.

I absolutely loved that the main love interest was death! This story is so much fun and sexy all at the same time.

A must read series.

Magic and mystery make a great read

Debra Dunbar is a great writer and Death and Divination, the 3rd book in the Accidental Witches series, is no exception. Debra Dunbar skilfully weaves humor, romance mystery and magic into tale well worth the read.

Ok

I enjoy many of Dunbar's writings. This one started out good, but I think she got bored with writing it and just wanted it to end. No doubt that's why the story became a loose thread.

A fun addition to the Perkins sisters saga, this time with Ophelia and a reaper named Nash.

The Dickskin wolves continue to bring trouble into town but there was one line said by the younger alpha that has me curious for the future. I wonder what happens to the witch in her book.

The Perkins women are awesome. These stories are a quick read, but very satisfying. I liked how this one ended and hope the next story is just as good.

This is by far my least favorite of the series. It just I don’t know was all climatic with her visions and the ending was a total let down for me. Not to mention Nash just didn’t make sense. I mean I get what he did, sacrificing himself and all but the connection still felt like insta love without any real knowledge of each other. The book also felt unfinished bc he was still just a former reaper looking for a job. Just not impressed with the story line of this one.
