I read a lot of fiction in my free time. The evening I received this book, I skipped reading my nightly novel and devoured this cookbook instead, from front to back. I am excited about so many of these recipes.
Sarah has so much variety. She has lots that's pretty straightforward, but also much that's creative. Many popsicle recipes are simple to make, but some are more complicated (and definitely worth the effort!). For instance, I never would have thought of making a (vegan) Marshmallow Coconut Creme popsicle like Sarah created. I was lucky enough to test it out for Sarah before she published this cookbook. It was delicious! My 4-year-old and I gobbled them up. (That's my disclaimer that I know the author and helped test a few recipes for this cookbook, but read on; I could never gush like this if I didn't mean it.)
In addition to having all the recipes organized from A-Z, Sarah also gave the cookbook a table of categories so we can find what we're craving. She has 9 adult (boozy) popsicle recipes that I'm going to refer to when I go to book club this summer.
The author and I share a similar sweet tooth. We like our fruit to be pretty natural, but we love our sweets. In our sweets, though, we don't just want sugar for sugar's sake. There's a cookie dough popsicle in here, made with an almond/almond butter base. It has only 2 tablespoons added sugar for the entire recipe!! Some of my popsicle molds were in use, so I got to drink the unused smoothie, and it was sweet and fantastic. Plus, the popsicles only took a couple of minutes to blend together. I haven't had a chance to eat the popsicles yet, but I am super excited about them.
With these healthier recipes, I'm hoping that I can (partially) kick some of my ice cream habit and substitute in healthier things, like dulce date leche popsicles (also vegan) or almond-based cookie dough popsicles - at least they'll fill me up.
PS: (I cook and bake a ton and have a recipe blog, but I really don't read that many cookbooks.)
I have not actually tried making the popsicles in this book yet, but I’ve ordered my supplies and cannot wait. The recipes look so yummy and easy, and the author’s banter about them is so much fun, that I read the entire book in two sittings. Consider recipes like ginger pear, blackberry orange basil, Vietnamese iced coffee, avocado chocolate, and amaretto sour. What I especially like about the recipes is that the author attempts to make them as healthy as possible, substituting honey, dates, and maple syrup for sugar and even including vegetables like spinach and beets. The pictures are very well done too. Brava!!
I have been thinking about doing some popsicles with fruit but was not sure how to do them. I bought bc a popsicle mold a while back on sale at Home Goods and just never used it. I am on Noon and need to make myself a healthy and low calorie treat. So, this book is great. The recipes range from real simple to a bit more entailed, I love the pictures and the commentary. I cannot wait to try some of these such as the coffee based ones and the carrot cake one. What a wonderful surprised read!
I have several books on popsicles and this one is great. In all the books I wish they had substitutions (e.g for those of us who can’t drink coconut milk, or just plain hate bananas). Still this has SO many that I can’t wait to try. With or without alcohol ;) It should be a cool summer! I also really like that many are low calorie, healthy. And I felt like DUH, why have I never made ice tea pop, given how much I love ice tea?!
Never, ever did I think I would buy a popsicle recipe book! But I did, and happy I did. From Creamsicle to creamed corn, this book has it all. I bought molds, sticks and bags and started. I have made 3 recipes in 3 weeks (eating each batch within a week nom, nom). Cherry Creamsicle, horchata, and fudge are awesome. Go ahead and be a popsicle connoisseur... fun, easy and delicious.
I read this book a month ago. I have used some of the recipes and I loved them! Spring is here and it gets quite warm here in Mexico. So I am ready for some delicious popsicles. I might even try some poptails! ❤️
This is a great book for those on restricted diets. I love popsicles and now I can have some. Several varieties of treats. They can be easily modified to fit my needs
