1878 ~ The girls at Madame Chambon’s high-class House of Assignation offer beauty, wit, and companionship to London’s wealthy and titled gentlemen.
In the first boxed set of the Fair Cyprians of London series, three courtesans-in-training at Madame Chambon’s navigate danger and intrigue for a second chance at love. SAVING GRACE
Grace Fortune trusts no one after she was betrayed by the man she once loved.
Now, she's the most popular 'Cyprian' at Madame Chambon's high-class London House of Assignation, consort of aristocrats and princes.
As Grace prepares for her next job as the special initiation 'gift' procured by a mother in fashionable Mayfair for her son's twenty-first birthday, she plans her revenge.
Instead, she gets the greatest surprise of her life.
FORSAKING HOPE
Honour? Or her heart's desire?
Two years ago, Felix Lord Durham believed that Hope, the vicar's beautiful daughter, had chosen to live in Germany as a governess rather than accept the marriage proposal he'd hinted at.
Why else would she have failed to appear for their final secret assignation? Why else would Felix continue to receive snippets about her new life on the Continent from various sources?
Now the divine "Miss Hope" is in Felix's bed - a surprise gift from his friends designed to lift his spirits and sourced from London's most exclusive brothel, Madame Chambon's.
Despite feeling betrayed, Felix can't bear to lose her again, but Hope Merriweather is bound to her new life by a dark secret. Having sacrificed the man she loves once already, she must choose Honour or her heart's desire?
KEEPING FAITH
Revenge is sweet until it breaks your heart.
Four years ago, Faith's mysterious benefactress falsely accused her of stealing and deposited her in Madame Chambon's exclusive brothel.
There, Faith was to learn how to entrance London's noble gentlemen with her learning in philosophy, politics, and art.
Her body was to be saved for the greatest enticement of revenge.
Faith doesn't care what she has to do. She lives only to fulfill a bargain that will set her free.
But when Faith is recruited as the muse of a talented, sensitive painter whose victory in a prestigious art competition turns them both into celebrities overnight, she discovers the reasons behind her mission are very different from what she'd been led to believe.
Now she is complicit in something dark and dangerous while riches, adulation and freedom are hers for the taking.
But what value are these if her heart has become a slave to the man she is required to destroy?

Worth Reading! I absolutely love this series! It is well worth the read and I suggest that if you enjoy 2nd chance romances with a bit of a 'kick', then you should definitely read these. Each story is an easy and quick read which kept me glued to the pages. Not only are they interesting with fascinating characters and fictional ideas, but the intrigue is fascinating, the belief in the good in others is wonderful and the 2nd chance ... Well, fabulous! As fiction goes, the author has given us a new insight into what could have happened in those times if only things were different and I loved the imagination that went into the creations of these lovely stories. My review above is unbiased and given voluntarily and I am happy to recommend this boxset!
I'm a fan of the Fair Cyprians series, so when I saw there was a box set of the first three books, I had to pop up a review to encourage readers who haven't discovered Oakley yet to jump in. I wanted to expand my historical romance reading beyond the ballroom, so when I saw that the series was inspired by a nineteenth century journalist's account of London's underground culture I grabbed Saving Grace. I've been hooked ever since. Oakley loads the series with wit and heart as she unpacks the underbelly of London's shining elite. Highly recommended for lovers of historical romance looking for something that delves into the darker side of life.
Wonderfully conceived stories of three young ladies who , through no fault of their own, end up in as "residents" in an expensive brothel. Though it doesn't sound like a hopeful start, each of them use their wit, talents, and beauty to find happy endings. A really "feel good" collection! I really enjoy this author and her joie de vivre, that fills each page she writes. I've read 8-10 of her books in a row and I'm not stopping any time soon! I hope you enjoy Beverley's passion for writing as much as I.
What an intense, tangled web of revenge. Very detailed plot opened up to much more of a mystery than I was expecting. Gotta have Faith, she is strong, a survivor, very smart yet rightly naive. I like Crispin too but he is slow to put the deceitful puzzle together. Very interesting depiction of the secret endeavors of London brothels and the power of love. I am voluntarily reviewing a free copy.
Each story in this series is unique and really good. The first two are short novels, but even in the short expanse Beverley has woven wonderful stories of love, vulnerability and emotion. The third story is a gem! The story unfolds slowly but there is so much angst and emotion and how wonderfully the human characters are sketched - so real! This is an absolutely wonderful read!
I stopped after the second story because it was going to be the same as the first two sex and lies. A woman falls on hard times whether via betrayal or evil unforeseen circumstances. Then whether by choice, desperation, and or force they enter a life of prostitution. The one person they love rescues them and becomes their husband and protector. The end.
There was a good bit of action in all three stories. Nice characters. There were several places where having commas in the proper place would have made the reading a lot easier. There were also several passages that I read over and over and still didn't compute. Those aside, the stories were enjoyable.
These stories are the purest Victorian melodrama. Women of humble origins who’ve been forced into a life at Madame Chambon’s. Villians who only need to twist the handlebar moustache. And yet, the stories were mightily convoluted, especially the last one, so it truly wasn’t that enjoyable for me.
I am doing a voluntary review on this boxed set. all three stories are well written and I enjoyed reading. There is SAVING GRACE, FORSAKING HOPE and KEEPING FAITH all three have their own merits. A set I would recommend.
Sizzling Victorian romances is a very accurate description! These were hot! I liked the first one best. These are good books to analyze as a writer who wants to write period romances. I recommend these books to anywhere enjoys romances.
Minimal but I kept wishing that the characters would simply tell the truth. I understand romances aren't realistic but these pushed the limits of all credibility.
These three stories...... The first and second being short stories and the third much longer was a story of love and lost and lost. The ending was however well played out.
