The 2nd book in the Smithwell Fairies Cozy Mystery Series!

When Kate’s friend Emily spots a partially buried body during a tour of a local haunted cemetery, she thinks it’s a prank. Until that body winds up in her back yard. Certain that someone is trying to frame her friend for murder, Kate makes it her mission to discover the truth.

Determined to help clear Emily, Minette the fairy insists on joining the investigation, but in her eagerness to solve the case, she risks revealing her existence to others. In a race against time, and as Minette’s enigmatic answers to Kate’s pressing questions strain their relationship, Kate must crack the case and clear her friend.

This light, cozy mystery offers a clean read with a female amateur sleuth in a small-town setting. No foul language, sex, gore, or graphic scenes of any kind. It can be read as a standalone, but it will be enjoyed more as part of the series.

The fairy at the bottom of the teacup

Another great read. Clearly written, well thought out plot with just enough turns to keep you wavering as to the culprit. Wonderful characters that live before your eyes in all their human frailties. But the use of a fairy is just brilliant. A fairy that has a childlike wonder to her mixed with the wisdom of the ages.
When her next door neighbour comes running to her, distraught at finding a dead body outside her back door, both she and her resident fairy take on the challenge to find out "who and why". First however they have to break the news to her that fairies exist and one is living next door. As the three of them investigate they keep coming up with some indisputable facts. The cemetery and the "haunted" mansion are part of the reason why the woman died. Can they find the link that ties them altogether and halt the criminal activity that they find?

I am a big fan of Karin Kaufman and when she started writing cozy mysteries, I jumped in! Her Juniper Grove series is great and now she has started another series set in Maine and featuring a widow named Kate Brewer and a four inch fairy named Minette who sleeps in a teacup in Kate's hutch. Minette is a cute little thing with a great knack for solving mysteries, too, so they make a great team. I loved it.

I am so happy I have discovered Karin Kaufman and her cozy mysteries. They are fun, fast reads with all the elements that I love in a cozy.

In this sequel in the Smiwthwell Fairies cozy, Kate finds herself sleuthing again after a body is found in the backyard of her neighbor's house. But this isn't just any neighbor; it's Kate's good friend, and fellow sleuth, Emily.

Kate believes in Emily's innocence from the start, and they must work together - along with Kate's secret...fairy Minette - to catch a killer before anyone else is hurt.

I love the pacing of Kaufman's storytelling, and she creates such likable characters. Kate and Emily are believable as neighbors and friends. And the introduction of a fairy in this series was clever. Trying to keep Minette a secret adds elements of both comedy and heart-pumping as the reader waits to discover if others see - and understand - what Minette is.

A Fairy Good Mystery

I hadn't read the first book in this series yet when I stated this. Now I will and probably any that follow. Kate & Emily become wrapped up in the murder of the executive director of the Smithfield Historical Society. Why was she killed & why dump her body in Emily's backyard? Kate wrestles with having to introduce Emily to Minette, her roommate who also is a 4'' fairy with wings. Once Emily gets over the shock, the 3 of them are determined to find the killer. With a creepy cemetery and creepier mansion doing tours of the ghostly kind, the 2 humans and one fairy have their work cut out for them.

"Dead and Buried (Smithwell Fairies Cozy Mystery #2)" by Karin Kaufman is set in November but at a haunted mansion and graveyard tour. I find it interesting that they're doing the haunted tours in November rather than October. Or at least, only in November. The historical/tour director is found in Kate's friend/neighbor's yard after the friend thought she may have seen the victim is the old graveyard on a tour the night before. This means Kate and her fairy friend are going to investigate.

Who knew that historical group volunteers/employees could get so wild. There is a lot going on with that group. The final culprit essentially just made things worse for themselves rather than making their problem, they thought they had, disappear.

Wonderful series

I wasn't on sure about an adult book with fairies, but I had no trouble falling in love with one as adorable and sweet as Minette.

The mystery aspect was exciting, and I plan to read all of the series and others by this author. I appreciate the books are Cozy too!

I enjoyed the first book in the series and decided to go right onto the next one. I enjoyed the character development in this book and how Kate and Emily come together as friends to get to the bottom of a crime. I am hoping in future books the series goes more into Minette's back story and more about the fairy world. A lot of fun. I look forward to reading more books in the series!

Another good mystery, and I'm enjoying the developing friendship between Kate (human) and Minette (fairy). Other than the presence of a fairy, this is a regular cozy mystery. As Kate points out in the narrative, she's a very ordinary person in an ordinary small town in an ordinary state (Maine).

I like this series

I like the characters, and the style (part mystery, part fantasy). I even liked the fact that, in book2, one of the characters has my name (** spoiler alert: I'm glad she wasn't the killer).

I've enjoyed getting to know each of the characters more. Minette is precious and yet a feisty little fairy who has been sent by God.

Predictable

I would have liked a few more red herrings and meguffins, and if there is going to be a fairy, she should provide more substantive help than an aerial view.
