The rebellion's forces are fractured with Rose's abduction, and a lethal plague threatens the lives of those who remain. The battle for the kingdom of Ttereve takes place in the heart and soul of one young woman, but is the sacrifice Rose must make to great even for her? It all comes down to this in the conclusion to Rose
Married to international, best-selling comic artist David Finch and mother to three boys, Meredith has been steeped in the world of comics since meeting Finch in November 2005.
Having written for both Zenescope and DC Comics, Meredith begins her first foray into creator-owned comics in 2017. Titled ROSE, this fantasy series combines her love of mythology with modern issues, and is sure to be a hit with her many fans.
This works as an ending but also keeps it open ended for more adventures. I do wish that Rose herself had done a bit more because for large parts of this collection she is captured or tied up with men telling her she can do it.
Fun to read once, but I'll probably never take a liking to the Americans' annoying habit of always changing people's faces and sometimes indecipherably busy drawings.
The story itself is fine, although I would have preferred some more interaction between Rose and Thorn, and more scenes featuring Rose in general. She's the main character, but there are so many other people about! I liked the way her hair glowed, though; the colours in this story were brilliant.
The conclusion to a 3-volume series! I do like the world explored in this series and I liked all the characters. My only complaint with this conclusion was how quick it was. I felt like I was only beginning to explore this world and its characters. It felt like there were more adventures--more missions only guardian could do--but we didn't get them. The villainess met the heroine, and the heroine one a few pages later. There's also a demon lurking in the shadows (Balor) who was manipulating and basically claiming to be the real villain of the story...except that Rose never meets / defeats him, and Balor's not nearly as important as he (or others characters) claim he is.... That feels like loose ends to me.
Maybe it's left open for a future continuation? I'd be happy with that.
I had higher hopes for this. This conclusion felt rushed, sporadic and wholly unsatisfying. But the series had issues all along, so I shouldn't have held out too much hope.
The series is set in a fantasy world. About the titular protagonist Rose. She is a guardian and is being hunted by the evil queen who wants to enslave or kill all the guardians as they oppose her. Her evilness being inversely proportional to the amount of clothing she has on (god bless). The general idea of the series is being about Rose learning what it means to be a guardian and learning to utilizing her power. Till she becomes strong enough to beat the evil queen.
The series is surprisingly straightforward. Which works in its favor considering the shortness of the series. I'm honestly a bit surprised by how much i ended up enjoying the series. The art is solid the characters are likeable and story is interesting.
I really think the main reason the series stands out is the main villain. There is no real sappy backstory. She is literally an asshole. That's it. You can take her at face value. Literally everyone around her were the nice dudes and gals. I appreciated that. There was no half-assed attempt at redemption. Beat the bad guy, Save the prince, Help the world.
Sure this means the character's depth isn't as deep as it should be but personally its better than the boring ass repetitive nonsense of trying to redeem and irredeemable character.
I also enjoyed the side characters as well. Simon for example his arc was pretty enjoyable. His reasoning was a bit weak but his personality and back and forth with the tiger was pretty fun.
I guess the start to the series was quite weak. Rose's mother dies early on the series but like i feel nothing. Whatever. I don't really like how the first set of side characters are introduced either (a little *aggressive* lets say) but beyond that i really don't have a complaint. The series was too short but that's an achievement not a complaint.
Overall It's good. Better than i expected. It starts weak but doesn't really leave a lot of be desired. Like its meant to be a short entertaining series. 3/5
The art remained really good, but the really frustrating thing about this graphic novel is that the protagonist is supposed to be the ultimate power when paired with her guardian animal. The whole graphic novel goes by, the baddie is beaten and yet they never join or do anything interesting. Boo.
