Love Strong as Death

No amount of distraction can keep Nick and John from each other; time hasn’t dimmed the heat between them. That doesn't mean a frustrated, angry ghost isn't going to try, and she won't hesitate to do whatever it takes to force Nick to help her, no matter whose life she endangers.

Worried about John’s injured hand, guilty that his ability to see ghosts is disturbing their peace again, Nick’s torn between wanting to help this ghost and wishing her far away.

As events spiral out of control, they’re about to discover which is stronger; love or obsession.

For their sake, love needs to win.

Ummmm, excuse me but when did these two get married and why in all of the fucks did we not get to see it?? It's more of the same....not quite sure why it was needed. Nick is being used and abused by the ghosts he wants to help and John is there to pick up the pieces as always. The End. It was good to see them still obviously very much in love and committed but I was a bit disappointed with this conclusion to an otherwise amazing paranormal romance series.

This novella was written as a part of the birthday celebration for this series, which first came out ten years ago. It is a wonderful story, reminding us of the romance between these two men. However, you do not have to read the original trilogy, as this book can stand on its own as a great paranormal, cozy romance.

John and Nick have been together for years. Life has gotten comfortable on their little Scottish island, and their sex is as hot as ever. The peace is shattered when John crushes his hand and has to go to the hospital off island for surgery. Nick is frantic and thoughts of losing John become a reality he doesn’t want to deal with. They are supposed to have years yet with each other—John can’t die on him.

John recovers but unfortunately, they pick up a ghost and bring her home with them when it is time for John to be discharged. This ghost is none too happy to be dead and wants her life and her husband back, no matter what. If haunting Nick and forcing him to raise her beloved from the afterlife is what it takes, well, that is what she will do and damn the consequences. John and Nick are into their bucket list years, and the idea of dealing with another ghost is tedious. Love Strong as Death is about enduring love, selfless love, and how it can sometimes border on obsession.

The authors have done an incredible job revisiting these characters and bringing their love story back to life. This novella fits in seamlessly with the original trilogy and gives us another glimpse at John and Nick, their abilities and their unwavering devotion to each other. I love the way Jane Davitt and Alex Snow collaborate. Their verbiage and plots are always spot on and a joy to read.

“We’ll see what the doctor says,” John suggested. Little as the idea of skiing appealed to him personally—he suspected it was likely to end in uncoordinated disaster—what did appeal was the smile he imagined on Nick’s face, cheeks flushed with cold. Brushing snow out of his hair before kissing him—aye, he’d enjoy that part well enough.

I highly recommend it!

The Romance Review

No good deed goes unpunished. Nick is an established writer and his time seeing and helping ghosts rest is in the past. Living in a small village in Scotland, he is blessed with peace and quiet. Enjoying life with John has dulled Nick's defensive skills. Namely, when a ghosts hitchhikes home with him, Nick is sorely out of practice. This is a major problem as the ghost is determined to get what it wants.

What happens after the happily ever after? Authors Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow show Nick's idllyic life disturbed by a violent force. It is almost like Nick is starting from square one again. He makes rookie mistakes which pull both John and him into danger. This story is good in some sense as well as frustrating. Good because the love between Nick and John is still strong. Frustrating because Nick knows better and yet he gives his all to a ghost who is only interested in taking.

The set up and conflict works. What catches me off guard is how quickly the story concludes. It is so easy in resolution, it makes a reader wonder why Nick and John didn't do it in the first place. Of course, then there would be little story to tell. Still, fans of this series will enjoy a return back to a loving couple. For those who have never read this series, start at the first book. It will make a lot more sense.

This m/m romance is recommended to readers who enjoy ghost stories.

What a fantastic series, I'm so sad there are only four books :(

These characters are just great together - from when they met all the way through as their relationship develops, dang I just love them!

Really beautifully written with fun and creative mystery/ghost stories, I can completely recommend this series.

It was so great to revisit with Nick and John. Didn't realize how much I'd missed them until I started reading this book. The story wasn't as heart pounding as some of the previous books, but I still enjoyed the hair raising flair of the paranormal and the unwavering love between our two MC's. *sighs happily*

I've enjoyed this series a lot but the latest book was slightly disappointing. It's a nice check-in to see how John and Nick are doing but not as in-depth of a story as the other books in the series. I still enjoyed it, just not quite as much - a solid 3.5 for me.
