Supernatural Selection #3

Demon on the Down-Low

Rate this book
After decades of unrequited love, this kangaroo will jump at the chance for a date. Any date.

Lovelorn kangaroo shifter Hamish Mulherne, drummer for the mega-hit rock band Hunter’s Moon, waited years for the band’s jaguar shifter bassist to notice him. Instead, she’s just gotten married and is in a thriving poly relationship. How is Hamish supposed to compete with that? But with everyone else in the band mated and revoltingly happy, he needs somebody. Since he can’t expect true love to strike twice, he signs up with Supernatural Selection. Because what the hell.

When Zeke Oz was placed at Supernatural Selection through the Sheol work-release program, he thought he was the luckiest demon alive. But when he seems responsible for several massive matchmaking errors, he’s put on find the perfect match for Hamish, or get booted back to Sheol for good. The only catch? He has to do it without the agency’s matchmaking spells, and Hamish simply will not engage.

But Zeke starts to believe that the reason all of Hamish’s dates fizzle is because nobody in the database is good enough for him. And Hamish realizes that his perfect match might be the cute demon who’s trying so hard to make him happy.

By FAR my least favorite in the series.

I am vastly disappointed by Demon on the Down-Low because I really enjoyed the second in the series, Vampire with Benefits. And this one had SO much potential, but it really fell short for me.

I hate, hate, hate it when authors try to blend two different series, and I hated it here. I haven't read the entire Fae Out of Water series, but I could tell that this book tied in heavily with those books. There are a ton of characters thrown in and barely introduced, and I got the distinct sense that we were already supposed to know their entire backstory. Just NO. If I had read Bad Boy's Bard, that would have helped a ton, but I DIDN'T, and I hate that I felt like I had to in order to get the nuances of this story.

I struggled with how draggy this book was. It's a fairly long story, clocking in at 320 pages, and I had to really push myself to finish. I enjoyed the individual characters, but the side plots and the extensive dating ruse got old.

I also was bummed that we didn't get the perfect match thing from the first two books. I loved the opposites-attract angle of the first two stories in the series, and I felt like this one floundered a bit. I couldn't quite see the appeal between Hamish and Zeke, and it felt a bit like they were both just... well, desperate.

The plot was too muddled for me, and the relationship too weak. I'm bummed. Not the way I wanted to finish an otherwise very good series.

Zeke Oz is living the good life as a demon on work exchange from Sheol (i.e. Hell). Or rather, he would be having the time of his life, if he were allowed to experience things beside the office building he works in, aaaaand if he hadn't made a big mess of his last few assignments.

It's rather unfortunate as Zeke is a most conscientious worker, and the witches from the Supernatural Selection matchmaking agency are happy with him. Except for the time when he managed to mix up two client marriages. And just because everything turned out better than initially intended is no reason to let things pass...

To try and save face (and his job), Zeke gets tasked with finding a suitable mate for Hamish Mulherne, a kangaroo shifter and drummer for a rock band. The catch: he needs to do it the mug-- ahem non-magical way.

No magic here

Could a demon be any cuddlier? Because as far as I'm concerned, Zeke needs to be hugged and kissed on a daily basis to make up for all the injustice in his life. So big kudos to Hamish for recognizing all this and for being a thoughtful boyfriend. If you'll excuse me, I'll now go to make banners to show my support for them.

I only have one complaint here, namely the whole reunion plot device.
I can understand wanting to gather the whole cast from the series, as cheesy and fanservice-y it all sounds. But why the heck did it have to be at Mal and Bryant's bachelor party?! Having a party thrown by the matchmaking agency would've made so much more sense.

makes no sense

It would have made sense to gather the Hunter's Moon members at Gareth's bachelor party, but not Gareth's brother's party.

Score: 3.3 / 5 stars

As a heartwarming love story this worked surprisingly well, including the anvil-sized lecture on the nature of demons and angels. As a grand finale, to bring together the whole series cast though, it was kind of a stretch.

That said, I'm a big fan of all Niall cameos, whose character - much like Mal's - seems to get more interesting while cast in a secondary role.

Best one in the series and a lovely finishing touch for the Supernatural Selection Agency as demon Zeke finds his own Happy Ever After.

There's loads more behind the scenes plotting going on in this one and I'm glad the villain got his comeuppance as I'd pegged him as a potentially dodgy character from the start!

There's loads of humour, as with the other books in this delightful series, but I think with Zeke, EJ has created one of the sweetest and most adorable characters I've ever read.

He's an absolute joy and in kangaroo shifter Hamish he finds just the right person to fight for him and save him from the machinations of the aforementioned villain of the piece.

Now I need to go back and read the three related books which focus on the Kendrick brothers as we see the final wedding of Bryce and Mal in this one and they've all been popping up throughout the series.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Review for the entire series. (no spoilers)

Every book has a different couple, but the stories are all linked together through characters and events, and there is a very loose arc that starts in book 1 and has its resolution only at the end of book 3.
This series is also linked to another series by the same author (Fae Out of Water), and there are spoilers about it, so take that into account if you want to follow the chronological order and are bothered by spoilers. Otherwise, it’s possible to read this series without getting lost, since the author provided enough backstory about characters from the previous series whenever it was needed.

As for this series, it was my first read by this author and it was pretty much what I expected, cute and uncomplicated, with a premise (a matchmaking service for supernatural beings) and some unusual pairings that made it more original than the “usual” shifter/paranormal stories I’ve read so far.
There were a few instances (especially in book 2) of miscommunication and/or the characters making stupid choices, and (again in book 2) , but in general I found it an entertaining and light read.

The world building was very interesting, with lots of species and realms, and I liked how the supernatural politics were woven with the romances. Despite that, the world building had at least one obvious failing. It was never explained how everyone was so worried about protecting the secret of the supernatural world’s existence and yet a band of supernatural musicians had been touring for decades without anyone noticing that they weren’t getting older. Or how a bear shifter could plan on living the rest of his (much longer than usual) life in the same place, while interacting on a regular basis with humans living nearby. Humans that, supposedly, in the future couldn’t fail to notice that he won't be getting any older. Same thing for the beaver shifter who owns a construction business. What’s the long-term strategy?
None of these issues were ever addressed, even though the necessity of keeping the existence of non-human species a secret was repeated constantly throughout the series.

Very enjoyable, though I do wish Ms. Russell had avoided the "cold-hearted bitch" thing with the only aroace in the piece. :(

[ETA] the more I read this book, with the exception above, the more I like it. I really would love an update on Zeke and Hamish ...

[ETA.2 04/10/22]
Greg Boudreaux is very good with the accents in the audios in this series. From Cas's faded French accent to Hamish's Australian accent. I like the way all the books in the overarching series of books are tied together. I'm looking forward to Hector's book.

This has been such a good series. For me, anyway. Paranormals everywhere. Mixed up marriages and dates. Fending off assholes or evil. Yeah, I love it. I was really hoping after reading the first two that Zeke would get his story somewhere and yay! He did!
If you've read the first two, you know Zeke has worked so hard to help supes find their perfect match. But after the last two, there is an investigation because something went wrong. Well according to the office. According to the ones involved in the matches, it went very right. After a bit of get to know you though. But because of these supposed bad matches, the whole operation has been put on hold. Yet somehow Hamish got through. And now Zeke has to find his perfect match or he goes back to the abysmal Sheol for good. It's bad enough he can't go anywhere or do much on Earth but at least he was away from that place. But he has yet to figure out how to find a perfect match for Hamish when Hamish is making it very difficult and is still obviously hung up over someone else. To make matter worse, the matches he does find, are horribly, horribly wrong. Hamish is starting to figure out why his matches are crappy, and hopefully he can do something about it before it's too late.
This is another one of those times that if I could reach in a book to slap someone. For Zeke, life is torturous. His 'master’ decides if he can eat, among other things, he's not really allowed to go anywhere except his apartment and the office and he's stuck with one of the biggest assholes for a babysitter. Because heaven forbid a demon run around without supervision. He wishes life could be different. But he tries to consider himself fortunate that he at least is out of the hell know as Sheol. And I feel so bad for him. He works so hard. He's being cheated, manipulated, abused and more. When all he wants to really do is make people happy and be happy himself. Yeah for a demon that's odd, but it's how he is. And everything in you wants to give him the world.
For Hamish, he just wants the one person he's wanted for so long to notice him. But it's never going to happen. Especially considering she has a wife AND a boyfriend. Not wanting to be the oddball at his friend’s wedding, he agrees to try the perfect match thing. But gets more than he bargained for in an adorable little demon. And he's everything Zeke really needs. Hamish tries to show Zeke the world. It's hard to do with Zeke's restrictions. But that's funny in itself. And Zeke ends up becoming something Hamish needs. If only some beings would leave them alone.
It's been such a fun series. A fun book. Even a paintball match between lots of paranormals in Fae. Can't get much better than that lol. A definite recommendation.

sweet innocent little Zeke i was so happy to read of your happy ever after. I recommend reading this after the first two books since you will get a little more background on some of the characters.

i also haven't finished EJ Russells other series so this series can be read on its own, but there are a lot of characters from the "Fae out of Water" series.

Overall this one and book one are my favorites, which i didn't think i would say about any EJ Russell books haha

Greg Boudreaux you made these books, and your accents mmmhmm to die for!

That was some damn fine fun! Probably my favorite of the series thus far. Revisiting with characters from the Fae Out of Water series and with those from the first two of this series was simply wonderful.

Russell has unfortunately confused a British dialect with the Australian language, which really P!$$ed me off.
Just to note a few:

"Bullocks", "Sod" and "Innit" are all predominately British. (Especially "Innit")

"Teakettle"?! Holy Crap. If someone said that here, they would forever be nicknamed "Teakettle" and it would likely end up on their gravestone. "Here Lies Teakettle So&So"
Australians do NOT say "Arse over teakettle". End of story.

"Bogan" is a term akin to " Redneck ". One would not disparage oneself by thinking "I am a total Bogan" as a reaction to a Screw up. (It also only came about in the 1980's and, therefore, would be lost on this character.)

The Victorians didn't send the convicts to Botany Bay as they were still the English then. Australia had yet to even be named "Australia". Victoria didn't even exist yet. Virtually no Aussie would make that mistake, especially because of the still prevalent controversy/animosity regarding that period of Australian history.
(And as the character is supposed to be Australian...)

I know there should be some leniency to give way for creativity and suspension of reality but this just feels like a misrepresentation that could have been easily counteracted.
Evidently, I feel strongly about this matter.

Stone the bloody crows and starve the flamin' lizards, the Australian slang/vernacular used in this book is, well, it's interesting, and it's also a little mixed up with British slang.

There's definitely a full house sign lit up on Demon on the Down-Low. There are so many characters, couples (a thruple) in this book, and I only knew three of the characters. I did feel like I was dropped into the middle of something I was supposed to know more about. I just decided to go with the flow and follow the MCs storyline. I don't mind thinking about (world building) details but too many characters can swamp MC chemistry, and that did happen a little here. But Zeke is a sweetie and Hamish is easy to like as well which made the book enjoyable.

Honestly, there is something quite charming and addictive about this author's writing, and her relationships are endearing. Zeke and Hamish are nice, and I was happy for them, but this is not as good as Casimer and Rusty's love story (book #2). It isn't quite as focused as it could have been if other characters hadn't been crammed in for a finale. Still, it's a cute story and a happy tale.

I know the use of the word Johnson for cock was a cutesy thing but it bugged me because it's a tad unsexy.

Ahhh what a great way to wrap up this series! This is Zeke's story - we met him at the beginning of this series. He works for the Supernatural Selection as part of a demon exchange type of work program - only we learn that his life isn't much of one at all (although it's leaps and bounds better than the life he had before as a demon in his home world). He's also been involved in two major mix ups at the Selection, and although those ended with HEAs for all involved, Zeke feels like he's to blame for all the screw ups.

Enter Hamish - a kangaroo shifter and a drummer in a band (who I'm pretty sure was from the original series that this series came from), who is looking to move on from his unrequited love. He goes to Zeke and the SPN Selection hoping for a date to his friends' wedding - but he finds much more.

Ahhhhh I loved Zeke. I fell for him right away after learning how horrible his demon life was - no light, no music, no food, no freedoms, and getting to read about him experiencing all of that for the first time with Hamish was just delightful. Literal Heart Eyes! His little "meeps" and trying to hide in his hoodie! Grabbing alllll the food super quickly - Zeke is just adorable, cute, and perfect for Hamish. And I loved that Hamish was determined to keep Zeke, no matter what.

In this story we get to see the two previous couples from this series (Q-Bert and Ted! My fave!) as well as couples from the original series - so readers might want to have at least read the previous books in this series to get a better idea of who's who and what's going on with demons, angels, the AI, all that good stuff.

There is plenty of humor, some snark, a bitchy angel, plenty of emotion and love, all sorts of supernatural beings - shifters, vampires, angels, demons, fae, you name it - and HEAs for everyone! I really enjoy this author's writing style, her humor and quirky characters, and I can't wait to see what is next from EJ Russell!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is the least pleasant book in the series.

First: I hate when authors refer to books that are part of a series totally apart, without explaining within the plot who the characters are, what happened, (etc...) thinking, rightly, that not all readers are loyal fans. I'm not, so I will not read Niall's book.

Second: I wanted to read the story of Spencer and Josh, (since gray-ace/demi is what interests me most and unfortunately there are few books that treat them in a pleasant way), but I discovered that it does not exist. Which is not a problem in itself, but them and Tiff/Lucy/Vitor or even Olli/neighbor were the most interesting couples of this book: many possible relationships, so many "labels", so much "tact" put in the field by Hamish...and the Hamish/Zeke pair is the most standard.

Third and last point: the most interesting thing in the series is the creation of "perfect" pairs starting from combinations that are extremely strange on paper, with the consequent growth of the characters during their search for what they really need in a partner. Here this point is completely watered down: Hamish's love at first sight towards Zeke (because Zeke thinks he is the best musician of the band and he is cute?), while Zeke's most interesting feature is his transition from demon to semi-angel, which is independent from his relationship with Hamish, since being "good" is inherent in his nature, and Hamish's travel in Sheol was subsequently outclassed by Naill's investigative work and Matt.

I would not define this book as the narration of a love story, but rather the resolution of the character of Zeke, mistreated by everyone and finally appreciated. Too bad this was not the reason I started the series, nor was its description.

Went into this blind as I haven't read the first two in the series. Perhaps a mistake as although I enjoyed it, i found it quite hard to keep tabs on everything and everyone. Will definitely have to go back and read the others.

I loved this story, I loved this series! It was a fun read, it made me laugh and made me feel teary. Zeke and Hamish were a beautiful couple and I'm going to miss them, I'm not ready to give them up.

If you're thinking about reading The Supernatural Selection series be warned you really need to read The Fae Out of Water series by this author first. They take place in the same world and the characters from The Fae Out of Water series play a role here, especially in this last book. If I hadn't read The Fae Out of Water series first I'm positive Demon on the Down-Low would have been nothing but a mass of confusion.

What an awesome series!!! This has just been such a fun ride. Each pair was different and unique and admittedly so wrong for each other but yet so right for each other.

Zeke here was such a delight and I suppose it was also great to see Hamish grow and engage and finally grab what he wanted. But truly, Zeke was awesome and I love love love the demon and angel hierarchy!!! So brilliant! 🤩

Ahhh... I’m going to miss this series. It was so so so awesome. Much better than the main series this spawned off from.

This book is my favorite in the Supernatural Selection series, mostly because I think Zeke the demon is kind of adorable.

Zeke’s a low-ranking demon who has been assigned to work at the supernatural dating agency as part of a work-release program for the infernal realm of Sheol. That’s how he meets Hamish, a kangaroo shifter who wants to find a significant other of his own after spending too many years pining after someone who isn’t interested in him. Because of problems with the agency’s matchmaking spells (detailed in the first two volumes in the series), they have been disabled, and Zeke is forced to try to matchmake for Hamish on his own. Zeke’s first attempts to match up Hamish don’t go so well. The more time Zeke and Hamish spend together, though, the more each recognizes that the other might just be perfect for them. But Zeke is a demon, and by nature they are aren’t creatures known for happy endings.

I absolutely loved Zeke. He believes that his demon status means that he doesn’t deserve good things, but he’s atypical for a demon in that he tries very hard to help others. Because of the terms of Zeke’s work-release program, his freedom to do anything in the human realm is very limited, but he’s so grateful for even little things after enduring the torments of Sheol. Once he starts accompanying Hamish outside the matchmaking agency, Zeke is so enthusiastic about everything he encounters that it’s just very sweet. I always root for the underdog, so watching Zeke blossom under Hamish’s attention and care was completely satisfying. The two of them are adorable together, too, heart eyes and all.

I liked other aspects of the novel as well. The author includes a riff on Orpheus and Eurydice; Hamish is a drummer in a band, and he gets a chance to use that skill to rescue Zeke from Sheol. The description of the relationship between angels and demons was inventive and perfectly sets up the end of the story. And if you’ve been reading the series and have been annoyed by the AI (Angel Interface), you’ll definitely be pleased by the outcome.

I do wish that I had read all the Fae Out of Water books before starting this one. Characters from that series as well as the Supernatural Selection romances appear in this novel, and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who at times.

If ever a story about a demon could be described as fluffy, it’s this one. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a cute paranormal romance to read.

A copy of this book was provided through NetGalley for review; all opinions expressed are my own.

4.5 stars for the narration, 3.5 for the story

Another enjoyable instalment in this series - there are a lot of secondary characters in this one who have appeared in other books by EJR set in the same world; I recognised names from book synopses, but not having read or listened to those didn't mean I had any problems with this one. Although I can't say it isn't a bit of a stretch to have them all show up and have something to do. (I'd have liked to have seen a bit more of Cas and Rusty though, given how their book ended.)

A fun romance between demon and Supernatural Selections receiptionist Zeke and lovelorn Kangaroo shifter Hamish that ties up the loose ends as to what 'went wrong' with the previous two matches (books 1&2). Zeke is so cute and so earnest in his attempts to make Hamish happy (as he's instructed to do by his boss) and I enjoyed watching Hamish get a clue that maybe his perfect match isn't so far out of reach after all. But for all its warm fuzzies, there are some darker elements to the story, as Hamish learns the truth of Zeke's situation and how horribly he's treated by his 'supervisor' and others in the underworld.

Greg B. does a great job with the narration and especially with Hamish's Australian accent - it's not perfect, but it's one of the better ones I've heard from American voice actors! (Niall's Scottish accent is a bit iffy now and then, but it works for the most part!) He finds distinct voices for all the secondary characters and his portrayal of the other characters from this series is consistent. He's such a fabulous narrator and is clearly having fun with the material - another excellent performance.

And I think this would be my favourite book from both the Supernatural and Fae series.

I wish I had read the other books a little bit more recently, because the number of characters squeezed into this novel, who all had their time in the spotlight in previous novels, was just overwhelming. Otherwise, I liked pretty much everything else.
The main characters had a tendency to be a bit hard-headed, but only short-term, so it never became tedious or annoying. Otherwise, the story was fast paced without getting lost in unnecessary small dramas.

I would have loved a situation where Zeke goes full demon and wrecks a bit of havoc, but you can't have everything, right?

Aaah, that’s more like it. After unsatisfying second installment (imho) the closing chapter to ‘Supernatural Selection’ series is uplifting and reassuring in the way it tied-up all the loose-ends. Having dipping into ‘Quest Investigations’ before backtracking to this series, Zeke already won me over from the glimpse I saw him (of QI first book) with Hamish slowly catching up. The rest of the band members and motley crew of Hamish/Zeke friends were entertaining even when they were being intrusive as hell. I liked the romance blossoming between Zeke and Hamish, and the icing of the cake was how the cads being handled (and punished) appropriately.
Now onto the next Mythmatched World books we go!! 😁

Received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

I really just love this series. I know I sound like a broken record with each review but it can't be helped because these love stories are just so sweet and adorable. Zeke and Hamish are no different. I really really loved how Hamish was into Zeke and wanted to stick up for him at every turn. He never let anyone disrespect Zeke in front of him. But not in a douche-y way. It was completely charming. Zeke was just so cute and desperate for his life to change, he just didn't see a way to make it happen. He was so rootable. You just want him to win and be happy. I loved the way everything is resolved, for the most part. I liked the personal resolution between Zeke and Hamish. I'm torn on the "bad guy" I wasn't hating him, I thought it was going to go a different direction. But I'm not upset at how it ends up there. But for the overall plot? The bigger picture beyond Zeke and Hamish as a couple? There's more magical off page wand waving that fixes everything, just like the previous books. It's "told" after the fact, not "shown" as part of the development of the story. I think I just need to accept that these books will never focus on that part, that it would take away from the sweet fluffiness (not that there's zero depth, there is.)

I had a hard time getting into this book. I liked Zeke from the start. I liked him in the other books in the series and I was glad that he got his own book. Hamish took me awhile to warm up to. I found his mooning over his bandmate annoying. Once the book got going and he got over his obsession the book got better. I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books in the series. All in all, a really good book. Highly recommend, especially if you liked the others in the series.

4.5 sweet stars rounded up

Zeke Oz, the harried and heavily-monitored demon was a draw from book one and remained such in book two as well. Through no fault of his own he was always in the middle of all kinds of crazy and getting blamed for it. But despite everyone's best efforts, his work was flawless and he brought true happiness to unlikely couples. I couldn't help but feel for him right from the start. And if his match didn't match up to my hopes I was ready to be a big ol', loud complainer. Fortunately that is not the case; Hamish is just as awkwardly endearing and worthy of all that Zeke is.

All the obviously shady things as well as the more subtle hints throughout the series finally come together in Zeke's story and it does it in a big way. While the culprit is a bit too simplistic, it does adequately explain the things going on around Zeke and why he was always so close to the situation. Being an unwitting pawn made for a difficult situation that I wasn't sure how he'd get free from. The way the pieces came together was a bit rushed and I won't say I loved it, but I felt that it worked with how the story was set up.

A word of caution, however, regarding the side characters, the nuances of many of the relationships, and the background information that's directly linked but not featured in this story... If you haven't read the Fae Out of Water series, a lot of the people you meet here may throw you off a bit since there's little to no introduction to them. There are also subtle relationships and events in the other series that bears weight here and enhances the end "confrontation". So you don't have to read the connected series at all, but it might be helpful. Overall, though, I thought they were both blended fairly well, provided that you've read Fae Out of Water first. If you haven't, you might just have to take certain characters with a grain of salt.

Despite the issues mentioned above, I will say that I think this is my favorite book in the series. At first it seems like Hamish and Zeke are just together because neither of them think they can have what they want, but as they interact and learn about the world and love together, it's clear that they're the perfect match for one another. Hamish's love for life and care of others' happiness at the suppression of his own provides Zeke with a view of the world he only yearned for behind from behind the glass. Zeke's openness and earnest heart gave him the ability to see through to the most important part of Hamish. Truly seeing one another for who and what they are gave them each the privilege of accepting one another's vulnerabilities and their hearts. It was a really great love story set in a fantastic world that just keeps getting better.

Fabulous end to a fantastic series (an audio review)

I’m always blown away by E.J.’s creativity. Her supernatural world is ever-expanding, and I’m loving it. I knew about Hamish the kangaroo shifter. Bandmate. Friend. Lonely guy. And I knew about Zeke as well. Poor demon who works for the Supernatural Selection Agency – the place where Supes can meet their mates. Of course Zeke messed up the last two (or did he? Those men seem pretty darn happy.) The system is down for maintenance, yet somehow Hamish’s profile appears. Zeke is obliged to find him a partner – even though he doesn’t have the first clue who might be appropriate.

Zeke is on a work release program from Sheol. He lives in the upper world, but his privileges may be revoked at any moment and he’ll be headed back to Hell. And living is a relative word – he can’t actually go out and interact with people. He’s not allowed to eat their delicious food. But if he can find Hamish a mate then he can keep his job. Right?

Hamish is a pretty easy-going guy. Except he’s in love with a fellow bandmate who is absolutely not in love with him. To put her out of his mind, he’s willing to try this dating thing. The problem? Zeke’s suggestions are unsuitable, and the more time Hamish spends around Zeke, the more he wants the demon for himself.

Now, plenty of hilarity in the book. Bachelor party, concerts…and the two men falling deeper in love. Zeke is clueless, but Hamish is patient. Then Zeke is forced away and it’s up to Hamish and his Supe crew to find him.

Of course my happy ending was never in doubt, and I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books. Tickled pink. And finally I’ll mention Greg Boudreaux. A fantastic performance pulling in all the different characters and all their myriad accents – Hamish is a kangaroo shifter, so naturally Aussie. I don’t know if there are more books to come, but I do know I’ll seize any E.J. Russell audiobook that falls my way.

Hamish and Zeke are so lovable.

We've seen, through the other books in this series, the mess Zeke gets himself into. Somehow he's the one who screwed up the pairings, however, everyone who got mixed up also got their happily ever after. But now, because of his mistakes, he's on thin ice, in order to save his job he needs to match Hamish up with his forever.

Hamish has seen his band members fall in love, including the woman he's been in love with for forever. Now it's his turn. When he turns to Supernatural Selection, he's looking for the one person he can call his own.

This book has the humor and good times the other books did. It's fun and it brings together two people when they need love the most. Zeke and Hamish didn't expect each other, but their interactions are genuine, and you fall in love right beside them. It's a great addition to the series, and might actually be my favorite one.

I've loved the whole premise of finding love when you shouldn't opposites attract. And marriage of convenience that turns into real love.

I love books that allow glimpses of characters from others in the series and the fact that this one ties together two series ('Fae Out of Water' and 'Supernatural Selection') made this story even more fun. I haven't read all of the stories in the 'Supernatural Selection' series but there is enough information that I had no problem reading this story as a stand-alone tale. As always, this author does a great job of tweaking "standard" tropes just a bit and provides a fresh look at beings such as demons and angels and shifters. The cameos are delightful, the continuing evolution of the reorganization of the supernatural world is fascinating, and getting to know both Hamish and Zeke in more depth was fun. I'm always delighted to see a new title from this author and can't wait to meet more of these quirky characters!

Oh Zeke is just the sweetest demon I’ve ever read about. His life is so very hard, living in Shoel. It’s hell like we never imagined, and the work release program is is way of escape. At Supernatural Selection, Zeke is responsible for the perfect matches. When he tries to find Hamish a match, the inevitable happens. Hamish is a gentle giant, but won’t let anything happen to Zeke. The AI was a great touch, and the plot definitely kept me interested. This book really brought the series together really nicely. I think it was my favorite of the three for sure. I just adored Zeke’s wide eyed wonderment of a new world. I will absolutely be following this author in the future.

Demon on the down-low wraps up all the story threads from the previous 2 books but also adds in storyline from the other mythmatched books. I admit I haven't read or listened to them so I'm probably missing out but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story at all.
I had to listen to this when I realised it was Zeke's story since I was pretty sure where the issues with the matches was coming from. While I was right, there were still some surprises along the way.
Hamish was a great match for Zeke and I loved the slower burn of their relationship and how they sort of dated first.
As always, the narration was fantastic, Greg Boudreaux is one of my favourite narrators and there were plenty of opportunities to showcase Boudreaux's range here. Moving from serious, emotional, funny and steamy scenes with ease.
Now to go back and read/listen to the other Mythmatched books

I adored the conclusion to Supernatural Selection series! Zeke has been my favorite character throughout the books, and seeing him find his footing in Demon on the Down-Low was fantastic, and just what I needed!

Hamish was a breath of fresh air, and I found him to be really appealing. Plus, a kangaroo shifter. I love it!

Greg Boudreaux nailed it. I freaking love his narrations as a whole. This one, was amazing. The plethora of accents was beautifully done.
