de Wolfe Pack #6

BlackWolfe: Sons of de Wolfe

Rate this book
It’s suave, handsome Edward de Wolfe’s tale as he vies for the hand of Paris de Norville’s daughter, Cassiopeia. The only obstacle is the bride herself – she can’t stand the sight of him!

1275 A.D. - With brothers Scott, Troy, and Patrick married and settled, and brother James’ recent marriage to Rose Hage, it’s finally younger brother Edward’s time to shine.

Having grown up with many cousins around him, Edward had a particular eye on Cassiopeia de Norville, daughter of his father’s best friend, Paris. As children, they tormented each other, but it was Edward’s way of showing attention to a young lady who terrified him. Several years later, Cassiopeia is betrothed to another man and Edward must ride escort as he takes her to her future husband, but his heart is in turmoil… is she still the same annoying girl he used to tease? Or was that teasing a cover for deeper feelings he refused to admit?

Edward soon comes to realize that he has feelings for Cassiopeia he can no longer deny.

This puts him in an awkward position. Named for his father’s father, who was a great diplomat, Edward also has his grandfather’s politically-savvy way. He is a man of great words and swift action, and he uses both on Cassiopeia, who is shocked by his declaration of love. She rejects him soundly, but deep down, she’s giddy and flattered. She, too has always has an eye towards the handsome Edward, but on the eve of meeting her betrothed, Edward has made the situation most difficult. Rather than shame her father, Cassiopeia decides the best course of action is to discourage Edward... whether or not it breaks her heart.

But the man won’t take no for an answer.

Meanwhile, Cassiopeia’s betrothed is a man with deep, dark intentions. As a military advisor who has the king’s ear, it is his intention that his betrothal to Cassiopeia be the first step in ultimate goal of destroying the House of de Wolfe. As the bastard son of a man William de Wolfe once killed, he plans to devastate the Houses of de Wolfe and de Norville from within.

It’s politics, passion, and old hatreds as Edward tries to charm Cassiopeia away from a man who only wants to destroy them all. Will the plan be discovered before it’s too late?

Another stunning adventure in the de Wolfe Pack series brings Edward de Wolfe to the forefront of England’s politics – and a life or death battle of his own.

My Review (Fair warning that there are spoilers, so please be responsible upon reading this review)

BlackWolfe is the 14th installment in the de Wolfe Pack series, but you can easily read this as a standalone if needed. I absolutely adored this story so deeply. I never know what to expect when I pick up a Le Veque if I am being honest. But her books I just know from the get-go that I will enjoy. I was so in love with this family and they are probably my favorite family grouping that this author has done.

This story really struck deeply because I resonated with the hero especially. He had such vulnerabilities. He never thought he was good enough and a failure to the de Wolfe name. He never felt valued by his father or his family and was different than his siblings. He had unique talents that led him down a different path to be the King's negotiator. He faces some real challenges but we such vibrant character growth from him.

The romance that develops is quite interesting. I did feel like this aspect was a bit lower than I expected from a Le Veque. I will say that they do some courting which was fun to see, but its low key and not heavily focused on. I did enjoy the conflict and the underhanded revenge plot from the villain that connects to Williams' story. Very fascinating connections that the author used there. Even though there could have been a bit more focus on the romantic elements, I had a blast with this book and I definitely give cause for this to the narrator. Brad Wills just did such a great job with this book and is a big reason this rating is as high as it is.

Overall I had a blast with this book and eager to see the rest of the de Wolfe pack books.

This de Wolfe son was certainly different from the rest of the clan. Yes, he was trained as a youth by his legendary father, Sir William de Wolfe, to be one of the best warriors in England's service. However, he felt overshadowed by his renown father and notable four older brothers and wanted something different for himself. Skilled in diplomacy, he became the King's chief negotiator and diplomat to great acclaim. Unbeknownst to him, his family took great pride in Edward de Wolfe's amazing accomplishments on behalf of England. However, Edward's insecurity in his father's love and lack of recent hardened battle experience lead to near tragedy when he meets and woos his lady love, Cassiopeia de Norville.

This was an awesome story. I just loved visiting with so many of my well-loved, familiar characters who originally played such a prominent part in the book that started it all, "The Wolfe." Jordan de Wolfe, Jemma Hage, Caladora de Norville, Paris de Norville, Kieran de Hage, Deinwald and Adam de Longley all made significant appearances and it was a joy to read about them again. The story itself was gripping, nerve wracking and emotional. I am always in awe of the story lines this talented, prolific author conjures. They are guaranteed to unfailingly entertain and delight me. Another fantastic de Wolfe family read. I just LOVE the de Wolfe's and all those characters that make up such a loyal, fierce and loving family! Looks like I have some de Wolfe Pack re-reads in my immediate future. I just hate to leave them! :)

What did I love about this book ?
The fact that Edward is not first and foremost a fighter, he’s a Diplomat, he uses words as his weapon, halls as his battlefield.
He’s a man of so many talents.

Cassie is a beautiful , talented young lady , she feels deeply , loves passionately, and feels strongly.
She’s a woman now , not the child who reigned terror on the young Edward De Wolfe , just as she’s grown and developed so have her feelings.

Edward has doubts, he fears he’s not enough for her or his family .
There are some touching scenes between him , William and Kieran that will have you sobbing, they did me . Go grab the tissues.

Kathryn writes these books so well , they elate and devastate in the space of a few pages, throwing your emotions to the four winds ,and showing you what an awesome writer she is , what a gift.

I love to read this series and can’t wait for the next generation, I’m sure this can’t be the end .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

I was so excited to immerse myself into the world of the de Wolfe's and as I began, I knew there was no way I was going to be moving soon!! These amazing stories really need to be turned into a movie series, although it would be hard to beat the written word of Kathryn LeVeque! Her stories truly bring the history alive with her descriptive prose and she is able to pull out emotions and make me cry, laugh or just sigh...
A gathering of all the families of de Wolfe, de Norville and Hage for the marriage of a de Wolfe and a Royans of The Lyceum. What a wonderful group of handsome, strong men and beautiful ladies, some warriors themselves! But this tale is focused on Edward de Wolfe who is really more of a peace maker and diplomat while being very intelligent and did I mention handsome? Well he is the son of one of the most hansome men alive!
Edward loves his family but has always felt a little different, being in the middle of the pack of siblings. When he heard Cassiopeia de Norville was coming her could only groan. She had been the bain of his entire young life it seemed! She was always so annoying! She took every opportunity to harrass him that she could and I loved that it was her as an annoyance to a lad instead of the other way around!
Cassie has just returned from London and has grown into a beautiful woman but feels a little tense about seeing Edward. Then her father is pushing her to marry and Edward seems to be one of the candidates! But as they spend time together they are finally able to put childhood behind and the attraction slowly grows between them.
But is anything ever that easy? Of course not and we wouldn't have it any other way! Step in another man who wants her for himself and will stop at nothing to have her!
Another spectacular story that captured my imagination and emotions in the world of Kathryn Le Veque, only to make my heart to sigh when I turned the last page! Loved it!

Edward and Cassie

YES!!!!! The quiet deWolfe son has the happiest HEA of all. Plagued in his youth by Paris and Caladora de Norville’s hellion spawn, Edward de Wolfe, ever the diplomat, stoically dealt with Cassie, occasionally taking small doses of petty revenge. Who would have thought the mean-spirited, freckle-faced terror would turn out to be the love of his life?

Kathryn Le Veque has penned an extraordinary “enemies to lovers” tale at the same time taking her readers back to a point where the de Wolfe pack is substantially whole and together. The antics of James, the humorous banter between William and Paris, Kieran’s calming influence and most of all getting to know Edward de Wolfe has been such a pleasurable reading experience.

Le Veque pens strong heroines. Her ladies are not shy and retiring. I love the way they take the bull by the horns and speak their minds. No damsels in distress here. These ladies will fight shoulder to shoulder with their men.

I loved that although we’ve always known that these two married one another, we never had an inkling about their story. It came in its own good time. Knowing about past and future events in the lives of this large interconnected family only added to my enjoyment of this book.

I can’t wait to see what happens with the next generation! Paris’ grandsons are a hoot!

Great story!

Love these characters! I've read all the de Wolfe books and love each one, but this one was special! A Wolfe who feels like he doesn't measure up? What a contradiction in Woke terms! Yet it makes him more real and I love how Cassiopeia falls for her old enemy. The rocks were great, and such good aim! Loved it! This book was also not very spicy, it was more about the characters and I loved that too! One of the best! Excellent read!

When Edward de Wolfe and Cassiopeia “Cassie” de Norville were kids they couldn’t stand each other. Many years later both Edward and Cassiopeia come back for a family wedding; both are apprehensive to even approach each other knowing the animosity they both held for each other when they were young. As Cassiopeia is trying to enjoy spending time with her family a bothersome knight, Daniel de Motte, won’t leave her alone and Edward promises to keep him at bay and busy while she enjoys just being with her family. As Edward discovers Cassiopeia as an adult she is much different from that annoying girl he used to know. Cassiopeia has grown into a beautiful charming captivating woman that he is eager to know more about. As Edward gets to know Cassiopeia, he slowly falls for her just as she falls for him but Daniel also has an eye for Cassiopeia, not just for himself but to ruin everyone she holds dear including the de Wolfe family too.
This is a tremendously well told story filled with everything that makes a book transcend into greatness! Yes, there is a lot to enjoy about it besides the fantastic building and awesome characterizations of not just minor characters but major as well. The book is part of a series but can stand alone to without any confusion. Of course there are some minor moments that do cause puzzlement but manage to work out in the end. Cassiopeia at first is not easy to like she’s mean and hateful but really has grown into a well-spoken and stunning woman that sure it’s even easy to have a girl crush on her. Edward might be the black sheep of the family but also one to fall for too and makes great fodder for a book boyfriend. Edward is sensitive, caring and might not fit in but still he’s quite human plus he’s just so loveable anyway. The author just knows how to write a truly complex novel filled to the brim with everything that makes reading so worthwhile and will give a true book hangover that it’s hard to recover from but still worth the reread!

This is a wonderful book about communication and relationships, those forged by blood and those forged by love.
Handsome, intelligent, heroic, muscular diplomat Edward de Wolfe yearns for approval from his father William, he wants William to be proud of him and his achievements, especially as he is not an active warrior like his brothers.
The conversations that Edward has with his father are extremely moving, especially towards the end of this book, as are the many other conversations engaged by the other characters too.
This is an emotionally sensitive and evocative tale.
Paris and William's conversations are hilarious, as two old war dogs who love each other deeply, spa fondly together.
The book is so vividly descriptive and this is due to Kathryn Le Veque, who is an outstanding wordsmith.
You find yourself ensconced in the midst of the de Wolfe family and their de Norville and Hage friends and family. The camaraderie and love that they all have for each other is felt all the way through this tale of becoming your own person.
Warmth oozes off most pages and you find yourself smiling through some of the chapters. Hector de Norville's sons are a comical double act, Atreus and Hermes.
But the darker side to this story is about distorted truths and family relationships too.
The heroine Cassiopeia is a delightful character and the perfect partner for Edward. Having tormented him in their youth, she has grown up to be intelligent, articulate, humorous, kind, loving and stunningly beautiful. Edward and Cass iopeia's conversations together are warm and soft and you can feel their attraction towards each other growing as they find friendship and then love.
Be prepared to have tears in your eyes while reading this tale.
Kathryn wites with such tenderness and fondness for these characters, it makes you want to be a de Wolfe when you grow up!
Outstanding, I loved it!

The Black Wolfes Victory

What a pleasure this was to visit the world of William and Paris again. My heart was filled as it brought back those characters I had grown to love as I have read every book Kathryn has written about the family and their many friends and supporters. In fact I have read all but 2 of the books she has published and love the way she made these characters come alive for me.
Edward was different yet every bit a reflection of his Grandfather and the de Wolfe heritage. His sensitivity and quiet strength were what caused Cassiopeia to torment him to get him to notice her as a child. She was drawn to him, but didn't know how to get his attention so she became a thorn in his side. It wasn't until William pointed out to him the changes in her as a grown woman and the possibility that she would make him a good wife that he actually began to see her in a different light. Daniel le Motte had a different agenda. He wanted her as an access to the de Wolfe family so he could destroy William and everyone in the de Wolfe family to get even for the death of his sire. He blamed William because of the hate his mother fed him from birth. William rescued his wife from Daniel's fathers attempt at kidnapping her and the trap he tried to lure William into to kill him, but William succeeded in overcoming this and killed Daniel's sire instead. Edward was drawn into Daniel's plot when his attraction for Cassiopeia sidetracked all of Daniel's plans for his final death blow to the de Wolfe family.
This is a story of one man's discovery of his self worth and his true place in his family and the heart of his father.

Edward de Wolfe has always considered himself the lesser of the de Wolfe sons. His brothers are great battle hardened warriors, but he is a diplomat for the King.
He has made a big success in his chosen work and gained land and a title, but that doesn't stop him feeling inadequate when he is among the family.
He has however returned home for a huge family get together. His great love for his family has never wavered, but there is one person he didn't want to see.
Cassiopeia de Norville has also returned home after years in the Queen's court. She has grown into a strong minded and independent young lady. Her mother however decides it's past time for her to find a husband, and what better time than when so many are gathered for a celebration. Her father has his own ideas on how to make his choice for her, come up to scratch quickly.
What none of them know is someone in the area has murder on his mind. Lives are set to change drastically in just a few days.
A very exciting, funny and at times emotional story. We meet the whole extended family and enjoy all thier different personalities. As is usual for me when I read one of this author's books, I could not put it down. I cried in some places and giggled in others. The heartbreak felt by the wonderfully emotional father at the very end added a great touch.
Thank you so much Kathryn Le Veque for another great story.

The Return Home

I had not read Blackwolfe until know and I think I put it to the side because I knew Edward Was not like his brothers. He was more like his grandfather. I'm glad I read it because I would have missed out on an excellent story. The author created a story for Edward that was as worthy as the stories of his father and his brothers.

Edward always felt he was the blackwolfe (black sheep) of the family. He was more of a diplomat, hence working for the king. He was capable in a battle but that was not his overall strength. His strength was his brain. Ever since Edward could remember he had a female nemesis that drove him crazy! She was the only one who could get under his skin and also mess with his head. Now he returns to Questings, and he finds out the harpy will be there as well!

Cassiopeia de Norvelle is returning home. She feels it is time and she knows her mother needs her. What she did not know, was that there would be pressure by her mother and father to marry. She sees the boy that has become a man, and although she has seen Edward at court, they never interacted. Why would he want to interact with her when she was such a hellion to him in her younger days.

There is danger lurking, family and past issues which surface, and lots of laughter. Tears were shed when I read this story. It was so very good!

Edward de Wolfe is the son of the might warrior William de Wolfe, his four older brothers are great warriors so Edward has always consider himself in a different light. He instead became a skilled in diplomacy, he’s became the King's chief negotiator and diplomat to great acclaim.
Edward and Cassiopeia de Norville, the daughter of his father’s best friend, Paris grew up together, tormenting the other as children will do, but Edward soon comes to realize that he has feelings for Cassiopeia that he can no longer deny. Now to convince the lady herself. Edward is sent to escort Cassiopeia to her future husband, but Edward’s heart is in turmoil can he let the lady he love go to another man without a fight. I love that two of William and Paris’s children are falling in love. You can feel their attraction growing between them as they find they can be friends, not enemies to put aside their childhood antics and start to have feeling for each other, a love worth fighting for, a once in a lifetime love!!! I have voluntarily read the excellent book and here’s my honest review.

Another de Wolfe to love

Love, Love, Love the House of de Wolfe’s ! There are 2 more house’s
Paris and Caladora Scott de Norville
and Kieran and Jemma Scott Hage , of course William de Wolfe and his wife Jordan Scott de Wolf
Jordan, Jemma and Caladora.are
1st cousins.
After many long years being apart the families are back together
Edward de Wolfe and Cassiopeia de Norville, were bitter enemies as they were growing up. Now that they are grown up Cassiopeia realized that
she just attention.
Now we have a Knight who has been raised to hate William de Wolfe. His name is Sir Daniel de Motte. the captain of the army at Deauxville Mount. Daniel sees Cassiopeia and wants to meet her.
She is not impressed with his smooth talk.
So many things happen that if I kept writing this review it would be like a short story.
Kathryn Le Veque is an excellent writer!! This book is another winner!!

Edward de Wolfe’s nemesis Cassiopeia is all grown up but he still sees the little girl that tormented him when they were growing up. After a real conversation they had Edward begins seeing Cassiopeia in a different light he starts seeing her as a woman. When his father convinces him to go and court Cassiopeia and explore the possibilities of a wife and family of his own he finds he is not the only one interested in her. What a wonderful story, I loved everything about it. This story takes Edward from the man he thinks he is to the man everyone knows he is. I laughed out loud at times at some of the antics. I loved having the de Wolfe family together and if course William de Wolfe one of my favorite characters plays a big part in this book. I can’t tell you how much I loved this one and definitely recommend this book!

I enjoyed this book and loved the hero and the heroin. As a de Wolfe fan I found this book to be have alot of our favorites. All the de Wolfe brothers, as well as William & Jordan. And lots of Paris de Norville. I mean alot of old favorites spend alot of time in this book. Being an avid fan of Kathryn Le Veque and all things deWolfe, it is hard to say that I had one aspect of the book that was not a favorite. I felt like the hero and heroin got shorted on time with the reader in exchange for William and Paris. There is alot of back story to this book which brings William and Paris to the forefront and builds the intrigue for the main plot, however, at the end I just felt a little cheated of Edward and Cassie time. Though in true Le Veque fashion, the intimate scenes never disappoint. All in all if you are a de Wolfe or Le Veque fan; this is a must read!!!!

As usual with Ms. Le Veque's stories, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I've read this entire series..being number 7 I found a few "repetitive" areas with keeping readers' caught up on past characters, but that doesn't dissuade my review.

With Edward being the "Black Wolfe" (sheep), this story delves a little more into emotional issues for one of William's children while arranging one last de Wolfe/de Norville marriage. The villain Daniel de Motte is quite nasty, but all ends as it should. I did think de Motte was given a little to much notoriety in his plans, but I guess it was necessary for the ending.

Already started Penelope's story last night..unsure if I'll finish this series..I already see the grandchildren of William, Paris & Kevin's grandkids..

If you like this author, you'll love this story..keep on keeping on Ms. Katherine!

Another TERRIFIC Kathryn Le Veque book

I'm a huge de Wolfe Pack Series fan. This story of Edward and Cassiopeia's takes place after A Joyous de Wolfe Christmas and prior to Serpent on the Series List. It is also a full stand alone book as are all Kathryn's books.

To revisit the time of William, Paris, Kieran and MANY of de Wolfe, de Norville and Hage family members was so much fun. There is so much humor in the bickering between the older generation members.

You'll laugh through out, then you will feel Edward's pain during his emotional talk with his father. Kathryn CAN make you FEEL while reading her words. She's one amazing story teller.

I so enjoyed this book. Thank you Kathryn Le Veque for another 5* read!

For the love of Edward.

What can I say. I loved Edward. Different from his 4 older warrior brothers, Edward was a diplomat, a negotiator for the king. He always felt like the lesser deWolfe because he was not a warrior. Cassiopeia was hi tormentor when she was a child but that all changed when she returned from London a beautiful grown woman. Although Edward was Leary at first of the change he saw in her, he quickly realized he was attracted to this new Cassiopeia and she was attracted to h8m. Of course there is a villain in this book and he is evil. Daniel holds a secret from everyone. He is plotting revenge and will stop at nothing to get it. This is a really good story that brings back familiar characters and some new ones as well. You will love it.

Sworn enemies from birth, Edward and Cassiopeia were always fighting. Mostly, at Cassiopeia’s instigation. As Edward becomes an adult, he leaves his family, not ever feeling a part of their closeness. A skilled negotiator, Edward has become a very valued member of the King’s inner circle. Noting that Cassie was also at Court, he avoids any interaction with her. Edward feels the need to return to Castle Questing and his family, as does Cassie. What he doesn’t realize, is a member of his entourage has a mission of his own. As Cassie and Edward begin to fall in love, they are under the eye of an evil man and in his sight for death. This is a fantastic book in an exquisite series.

A Black Sheep

I was really into this book Edward always saw himself as lesser than his brothers because he was a diplomat instead of a warrior like his older brothers so he felt like he was a disappointment to his father who he adored and admired which of course was never the case his father tried to tell him he loved him and was just as proud of him as he was his older sons I think Edward always thought that William was just saying that just so Edward would be satisfied but in the end Edward proved himself to be the De Wolfe everyone knew he always was I would recommend this book it was written well with emotion as always by KLV

Childhood adversaries to grownup love

Kathryn does it again with this page turning read! It’s usually the young boys that incessantly tease girls, but it’s the other way around with young Cassie. She was a torment to young Edward and when they were all grown up to meet again, he wanted to stay clear of her. With another who vies for her hand and reacquainting with a new mature Cassie, Edward now sees her in a different light. There’s never a dull moment with all the twists and turns in this adventure to love. A must read.

My New K. Le Veque Favorite

The last de Wolfe book I read was Nighthawk (Patrick & Bri’s story) and that was my favorite. Now I have 2 favorites! I absolutely loved how Edward and Cassie, two childhood enemies, evolved into a beautiful love story as adults. Also, Edward’s struggle as a middle child who felt like he didn’t fit in as a true de Wolfe because he wasn’t a warrior tore at my heart strings. The poignant and emotional scene between he and William had me in tears and I never cry. I loved it. This one will be read many times.

A beautiful book!

I LOVED this one!! Lots of tears and emotions in this. It started great and ended even better. So much in this book. I can’t begin to cover it all. But you must read it!! Lots of depth. Struggle to accept one’s self and know you have value. In the eyes of others whether you see it or not. Filled with rotten devious people and adventure, mystery, deception and battles. Also included is a lot of fun and humor. As well as deep longing and love. And of course the happily ever after we cherish.

Out of all of KLV's characters, William de Wolfe is my favorite. So I'm especially excited to read a new de Wolfe book. This one was really good as usual. Without any spoilers, I was a little nervous about revisiting the deaths of Paris' daughters from previous books. It was such a heart wrenching scene but as in real life death is a part of life. Reading Edward's account was difficult but worth reading. Another great book from KLV that I would definitely recommend reading.

Loved it!!!

This book was amazing! I loved that the villain was the son of the villain in The Wolfe novel and it was great to read about James de Wolfe before his head injury. Edward wasn’t really in many de Wolfe novels and he was very different from his brothers but it was an amazing story and I recommend it to everyone. I highly recommend all this authors books, they are the best I’ve ever read.
