I came by this anthology thanks to a tweet by one of the authors I follow (unfortunately I don’t remember which one) and it was really cheap so I told myself “Why not?” and hit pre-order. After all I knew I’ll be in the mood for some light and Christmas-y read in December. Since I’m not a fan of or even have read any of the series these stories are part of I didn’t have high expectations. In the end it was precisely what I expected and needed.

A de Russe Christmas Miracle by Kathryn Le Veque description

I know that Christmas is all about miracles and love but this one was a bit too religious for me. Add the ‘cancer’ diagnosis of one of the characters and I was snorting in disbelief. Mind that this takes place in the middle ages and while cancer has been around since the dawn of humanity, with the first described case in Ancient Egypt, throat cancer is a bit difficult to diagnose with a simple physical exam. Still it’s possible and I acknowledge that, it’s just highly unlikely. I can usually suspend my disbelief while reading but too much modern ‘things’ in the Middle Ages tend to annoy me.

The Holly and The Ivy by Tanya Anne Crosby description

At first I didn’t like this story because Alex annoyed the living daylights out of me. I was also more than a bit mad at his parents for constantly comparing him to his missing older brother and instating in him this sense of deficiency. It was only when I learned Alex’s actual age that his behavior started making sense. But his parents are still jerks for making him feel as if nothing he ever does will be good enough.

A Dukes of War Christmas by Erica Ridley description

This one I loved. It had the right ratio of teasing to good cheer and it was precisely what I wanted to read when I picked this anthology.

A Very Special Gift by Eliza Knight description

This story is an extended epilogue for The Highlander’s Gift and I’m guessing that it would have had a bigger impact had I read the novel. Still it had enough background info in it to make it enjoyable even as a standalone.

Mariote’s Christmas Wish by Suzan Tisdale description

I rated this 4 stars despite it being the story which I remember best of the anthology. It resonates best with modern times and how young people can get suckered by a stranger who has a way with words. Yes. It’s full of clichés but it was cute and relaxing and just what the doctor ordered ;)

A Very Brethren Christmas by Barbara Devlin description

Absolutely adored this one. So much that I want to read the series its part of. I just can’t decide if I want to read Admiral Mark and Lady Amanda’s story first or Eileen and George’s story. I think it’s be the Admiral’s as I got quite attached to him following his adventures in getting home for Christmas.

A Rivenloch Christmas by Glynnis Campbell description

Usually I like Viking stories but this one didn’t really resonate with me. Nothing wrong with the story I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Maybe if there weren’t so many POVs in such a short story I would have had the time to get properly inside the heads of the characters and managed to enjoy it more.

Overall rating: 3.4

Most of the short stories in this collection from fabulous authors were adorable and very enjoyable. One was nothing but a couples' romp session (one couple after another). Not my cup of tea. However, one story really shined above them all. That was "A de Russe Christmas Miracle," by Kathryn Le Veque.

I first fell in love with Gaston de Russe in "The Dark One: Dark Knight" by Ms. Le Veque. Actually, it is my second favorite book of all time (after Ms. Leveque's "The Wolfe"). I have read this epic medieval historical romance at least three times. I think it might be time to read it again. But, I digress. It is a heart wrenching, touching love story between Gaston de Russe and Remington Stoneley. Each are unhappily married to others, in obscene circumstances and each has a son. The novel is a must read for fans of larger than life medieval heroes and their ladies, which has all kinds of twists and turns and truly memorable characters. Subsequent wonderful de Russe books have been written about each son (wonderful stuff) as equally magnificent knights finding their lady loves. They were adorable as boys. They are even better as men. ("Dark Moon" is Trenton's book and "Dark Steel" is Dane's book).

In both Dark Moon and Dark Steel, we learn that our beloved Gaston de Russe has cancer and is slowly declining. It is a blow for a reader to see happen to a beloved, popular character. The setting of this short story is a huge family gathering to celebrate Christmas. Gaston has days, maybe even hours, to live. But, this book reminds us that faith, love, family and the Christmas spirit can truly work miracles. Yep. I'm ready to re-read the book that started the de Russe legend once again without having a shadow over my heart for my beloved Gaston. :)

I only read Barbara Devlin's contribution to this collection (so far!) A Very Brethren Christmas and I loved it!

Admiral Mark Douglas is in London for a meeting with Viscount Melville, but is desperate to get home to his beloved Lady Amanda.

Lady Amanda is home in Kent awaiting Mark's arrival when she gets news that he has been delayed, she puts on a brave face and welcomes her family and the extended Brethren family into her home, all the while praying Mark will be home soon.

A series of events keep Mark from Amanda's side for days, while she entertains their guests and the reader gets to catch up with the Brethren and get a peek of a romance in the making.

This was a delightful Regency take on the movie Trains, Planes and Automobiles with the added benefit of spending time with the Brethren - If you only read one story in this collection - make sure it is this one!

An amazing collection of novellas written by seven of some of the very best authors of historical romance. It is a Christmas gift in itself!!

A de Russe Christmas Miracle by Kathryn Le Veque
A bright star and a time of miracles on Christmas Eve. Dane de Russe and his wife were making their way to Deverill Castle to join all of the family to be with his father, Gaston who was very ill. Amazing to have all of the de Russe family came together, the focus was on the strongest man of their family and being with him for as much time as he had left. But it appeared that not all was lost and as the night passed, a miracle happened indeed! Such a heartwarming short story that brought a smile to my heart.

A Very Brethren Christmas by Barbara Devlin
In London for a meeting, it seems everything that could happen does to keep Admiral Mark Douglas from getting home to his love Lady Amanda.
In Kent, Amanda gets news Mark will be delayed so she tries to appear happy and welcome her family. Also in attendance is the extended Brethren family that you will recognize if you have read this series. You can visit and find out what has been happening with this group and may even see a future storyline taking place!
I really enjoyed this lovely story and could only smile at the multiple events that kept Mark from home. But don't despair, it is the season of miracles and there may be one in the making!!

More to come

All Things Merry and Bright

This is an amazing collection of novellas that are written by seven of the most talented authors of historical Romance and so far I have really enjoyed it.

A de Ruse Christmas Miracle by Kathryn LeVeque

In this novella the de Ruse family will truly lean the meaning of Christmas when an angel walks among them.

This is such a heart warming story.
It is set in the year of our Lord 1520 in Wiltshire.
The whole family has banded together to spend Christmas with Danes Father who is very I'll with cancer. He is basically bed ridden and cannot come down to the festivities until one day he comes to the door and plays with his grandchildren on the snow. Nobody understand how he got better they are just more then happy he did. It is a Christmas miracle.

Kathryn LeVeque is absolutely brilliant. This story is full of love, life, and miracles. It was so heartwarming that I still feel the after glow.

This book was free on Kindle. I thought it would have entertaining short stories. However it was too “adult” in parts for my liking.

What a wonderful bundle. I own many novels by all these author's and this is a very talented group. They've brought me many hours of reading enjoyment over the years. I highly recommend this bundle, and any other's they've written. You can't go wrong with any of them. They know how to pull you into their stories that will stay with you long after you closed the book (or e-reader).

1. A de Russe CHRISTMAS MIRACLE by Kathryn Le Veque

I love to read Christmas theme books from November through December. I have consumed over 10 so far and this is the best at bringing the Christmas Spirit. Oh how I love this family!!!

KLV tells us before our story starts, that she doesn't write religious themed stories but a story of faith. This certainly described this amazing, heart tugging lovely story.

This is a clean story filled with love of family and feeling the sadness at the illness of Gaston. I have over 70 books by this author, so she is a favorite of mine, and this does not disappoint. Doesn't have any fight scenes but I was still so engrossed in reading of this family coming together what could be Gaston's last Christmas.

2. THE HOLLY AND THE IVY by Tanya Anne Crosby

In first few pages, wrong named used - stated Malcom brows collided, but it should have said Alex.

I felt like I missed another story. The author tells you you should read two other stories before this one. Granted the first one is free, but the second one this is tied too is expensive, if you read a lot. People introduced with talk of back stories, and was confusing. I feel if a story is going to be part of a bundle, it shouldn't be tied to previous stories and leave the reading feeling left out of a secret.

Another clean story, reminded me of the Prodigal Son story in the Bible. Had a touch of magic and was interesting.

3. A DUKES OF WAR CHRISTMAS by Erica Ridley

This is about old friends starting a new tradition at Christmas. They play a game of one good thing and one bad about the person they love. I found it endearing and sweet.

Another clean story.

4. A VERY SPECIAL GIFT by Eliza Knight

I strongly urge you to read The Highlander's Gift by this author. I read and wrote a review and gave it 5 stars staying it was one of the author's best. This is a continuation of that story and since I read it not long ago, it was fresh in my mind and made me laugh again in how they came together.

This is mild lovemaking, maybe 2.5-3 if that out of 5 heat level, not vulgar but passionate, within marriage.

I loved this continuation of that story and hope you will read it too. This only has a few character's in it, and you will not be lost if you don't read The Highlander's Gift, but it will make this one so much sweeter.

5. MARIOTE'S CHRISTMAS WISH by Suzan Tisdale

I thought I knew how this was going to end, but oh I was so wrong, in a good way. I only wish, it was a little longer, to know how her father reacted when he found out the truth of her actions. This cried for an epilogue, only because I really loved this couple and the father.

This is a clean story, with HEA, no cheating either.

6. A VERY BRETHREN CHRISTMAS by Barbara Devlin

This tugged at my heart strings. This isn't about a newlywed couple, but one who has been married for 30 years and still passionately in love with each other.

They are separated at Christmas time and while family gathers at their home, the H is trying to make his way back to her. The journey of the H and his best friend was comical at times.

This really had the spirit of Christmas too. Was clean, except for one reference grabbing him, otherwise just passionate kisses.

7. A RIVENLOCH CHRISTMAS by Glynnis Campbell

I've read this series a long time ago, and it is one I would recommend. But, the author does such a wonderful job you don't need to read the previous books in the series, you won't be lost.

I enjoyed the sister's and their offspring are mirror image's of their mother's. The daughter's will get their stories sometime in the future, per the author and I can't wait.

There is passionate lovemaking by the 3 sister's and their husbands, that made me laugh at times. Rated maybe 3.5 heat level out of 5, not vulgar. No cheating, HEA and about Pagen and Christain views on celebrating Christmas, very informative. (ljb)

It is Christmas in the de Russe household and everyone has come back to spend time with family. Dane de Russe enjoys spending time with family especially since this might be the last Christmas Dane will see his father Gaston before the cancer takes him. This lovely little Christmas story makes everyone believe in miracles and is written poignantly with such heartfelt emotion that even with it being a short story it was enjoyable and one that is worth reading again! Truly a good story filled with great lasting characters that have such staying power long after the story is finished!
Alexander “Alex” Ailbeart Mackinnon always felt inferior to his older brother Malcolm he who was just perfect. While Alex stayed home and did chores Malcolm never came home. This Christmas though the long awaited son is coming home at last! How is Alex going to take the good news especially when Malcolm has a Christmas surprise for his family? It does state to really understand the story others must be read and the truth is that in order to understand what is truly going on those stories have to be read. There are some confusing parts though since it is tied to other stories. Still the story is nice and enjoyable!
Bella Sutherland despite being pregnant loves her husband Niall so much even with the lovemaking being a little difficult. Later that evening when Bella’s baby decides to come at yuletide things aren’t as easy as they should be. Still there is much to celebrate a birth, a baby and family. This was such a good story even if it is a continuation of another. It wasn’t hard to follow and had such good characterizations that kept the story moving. It was definitely well worth the read!
While Kate plans the first annual Ravenwood Christmas party. Friends and family will gather together for the first tree party they have held, so a lot is riding on it being perfect. When they decide to do something that not only makes them realize why love is so important but brings everyone closer creating a lovely tradition to have again. This was such a cute story even though it had some sad parts it still created lots of smiles too. It definitely made Christmas a time of love and brought people together.
Mariote McCullum loved one person and one person only Willem McCullum. Unfortunately Willem doesn’t even know she exists and Mariote is tired of not having a husband or children of her own. Mariote plans to leave home but finds out everything is not as it should be and her wish has consequences. Another lovely story with wonderful lively characters that stay with one long after the story is over. Of course it definitely could have been longer and even a full length book. Another story well worth reading again bringing wishes, Christmas and hidden love from unexpected places.
Admiral Mark Douglas loves his wife Lady Amanda and knows how important Christmas is to her. Mark also has other obligations that take him far from home. Especially something he is tasked with a few days before Christmas. Will Mark make it home in time for Christmas when a winter storm could ruin all his plans to get home for Christmas and be with his Amanda? This little story brought such haste making things seem hopeless but also a determination to get home no matter the costs. Of course love makes you do funny things.
A family of sisters Deirdre, Helena and Miriel decide to spend a fun filled family Christmas together. They soon find how much trouble mistletoe can cause but also how much strength and love they have for not only each other but family. This last story made the ending bittersweet. Filled to the brim with family and happy beginnings can make anyone smile. Christmas may play a role in each of them but there is so much to celebrate family, friends and love!

An entertaining story filled with the true spirit of Christmas.
*********************************
A Rivenloch Christmas.
By Glynnis Campbell.
☆☆☆☆
The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch are all together with thier families for the holiday season.
The Viking traditions are just as important to them as the Norman traditions of thier husbands.  Not everyone in the family believes they are being properly passed along to the children though.
A saucy story full of love and family.

A lovely start to the holiday season....

A deRusse Christmas Miracle

A once great knight, now aging and ill faces the end of his life with a family who loves him dearly. His sons, now great knights in their own right, gather with their families for the Christmas holiday, happy to see him but dreading their father’s inevitable demise. He has been bedridden, and his wife his loving caretaker.
Christmas Eve arrives, the night the angels are said to walk the earth, and one son prays for the father he adores after years of believing his pleas to God go unheard.
But on this night, of all nights, are these conversations with God to go unanswered or will a Christmas miracle be a gift their family will receive this year?
Lovely, poignant story of family and faith especially during the holy season, and a perfect beginning to this collection of stories by a group of terrific authors.

A de Russe Christmas Miracle by Kathryn Le Veque. All the de Russe family is gathering for Christmas, possible the last Christmas they’ll spend with the patriarch Gaston de Russe. Dane and his wife are traveling to give his father the good news of a new grandbaby on the way. Hoping to give him the encouragement he needs to fight to live. Dane not being a religious man does stops and pray for his father’s health. On Christmas Eve a bright star appears and miracles can happen if one has faith, hope and love… A heartwarming story of the de Russe family we’ve all come to love. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Wonderful

I bought this for the Kathryn Le Veque novella, A De Russe Christmas Miracle, and it was so sweet. Gaston De Russe is one of my four fav Le Veque characters and seeing him sick in his sons stories was really upsetting. I was expecting another Kieran Hage death so it was so great to see Gaston get better. You must read Dark Knight before you read this to properly appreciate this story although its not a must, all the De Russe stories are amazing. In fact, all Kathryn's books are the best I've ever read, I recommend them all. I hate reading short stories so I didn't read the other stories.

Christmas Miracles

I just read the first story in this collection, A De Russe Christmas by Kathryn Le Veque...and I wept. A wonderful Christmas miracle indeed. I have had my own miracles occur in my life, therefore this one touched my soul! Thank you Kathryn for this de Russe miracle!

As I read the rest of the stories in this collection, I will update my review. I am sure the rest will be heartwarming as well... for all of these authors from this collection are outstanding.

Kathryn Le Veque always writes a quality story-long or short. "A de Russe Christmas Miracle" was no exception. The love of the children for their father was very touching. A son having faith that his father would somehow regain his strength. The reminder that just maybe angels do walk among us. This was such a heartwarming story, although not without a few tears.

Tanya Anne Crosby’s addition to the book was so cute. I loved little Alex. He was just a bit misguided, but was guided by his love for his family and his need to protect them.

I have found a new Christmas tradition for the lovers of Medieval Historical Romances. A de Russe Christmas by Kathryn LeVeque is very touching and brings the members of the whole de Russe together for Christmas. You can feel the warmth and love felt for the whole family and the pain they all feel for Gaston's illness. This is a special presentation done in typical Kathryn LeVeque style. However, the other authors are not to be forgotten as they present a special Christmas for us to enjoy.

Disappointing.

I felt most of the stories were advertisements to get you to buy the authors books. I buy these anthologies to try out new authors. If I like the story and the way the author writes, I buy their books. The only one that really put forth any effort in this collection was Barbara Devlin. Her story, while consisting of former book characters, was funny and entertaining. 1 story had a goat sacrifice to Odin. Not my kind of Christmas story.

Lovely Christmas read

A quick glimpse of some of our favorite characters during a holiday season! I wasn't familiar with all of them, but they still were entertaining stories. Loved Kathyrn 's story! So glad to see this peek at Trenton and Dane's families! And the funny tale of how the Admirals get home! Good reading for the holidays!

Bright, happy and love filled tales of Christmas family gatherings and the importance each family placed on it. I enjoyed all the different family takes on Christmas.

I loved these different stories of family Christmas. The struggles different ones endured to make them a success and not disappoint their loved ones.

Not worth it

There are two actual "stories" in this collection. The rest are worthless renditions that are meaningless to people unless you have read the prior series by the authors. Since I had not, finding out that subsequent characters were enjoying a nice Christmas together was meaninglezs

Not stand alone stories

These are not short stories but epilogues or companions to other series. I find it incredibly frustrating that this was marketed as a Christmas collection. Short stories should be able to stand alone. This was a waste of money.

This was a silly collection and not in a good way. I got it for the Erica Ridley story because I love her books, but overall none of the stories were particularly engaging. They were often heavy on sex scenes or innuendo and very light on plot.
